• Integrating Amazon S3 in Java via NetBeans IDE

  To continue from yesterday, let's set up a scenario that enables us to make use of this drag/drop service in NetBeans IDE: The above service is applicable to Amazon S3, an Amazon storage provider that is typically used to store large binary files. In Amazon S3, every object stored is contained in a bucket. Buckets partition the namespace of objects stored in Amazon S3. More on buckets here. Let's use the tools in NetBeans IDE to create a Java application that accesses our Amazon S3 buckets. Create a Java application named "AmazonBuckets" with a main class named "AmazonBuckets". Open the main class and then drag the above service into the main method of the class. Now, NetBeans IDE will create all the other classes and the properties file that you see in the screenshot below. The first thing to do is to open the properties file above and enter the access key and secret: access_key=SOMETHINGsecret=SOMETHINGELSE Now you're all set up. This is simpler to setup than the scenario described yesterday. Also notice that there are other Amazon S3 services you can interact with from your Java code, again after generating a heap of code after drag/drop into a Java source file: I tried the above, e.g., I created a new Amazon S3 bucket after dragging "createBucket", adding my credentials in the properties file, and then running the code that had been created. I.e., without adding a single line of code I was able to programmatically create new buckets. The above outlines a handy set of tools and techniques to use if you want to let your users store and access data in Amazon S3 buckets directly from the application you've created for them.

• Slightly off topic - How to Fix Sky Go Error [t6013-c1501] (and [t6000-c1501])

  Sky doesn't seem to understand what their own errors mean, so I cobbled together an understanding from some other posts and managed to get it working.When you see the error [t6013-c1501] instead of your TV programme in Sky Go, it seems to mean:'You registered a device, but then changed the hardware, so now I'm confused!'In other words, the Digital rights management (DRM) used between Sky Go and Silverlight stored an old fingerprint of your PC, but rather than recognising this and allowing you to remove the device, it just disappears from the 'Manage Devices' page.DISCLAIMER: Perform the following steps at your own risk. It worked for me, but I didn't care if it broke stuff. If you care....don't do it!So, to fix this I did the following:1. Login to Sky Go and click 'Watch live TV' from the home page. It will attempt to show Sky News and fail with the error [t6013-c1501].2. Right click on the error and you should see the Menu option 'Silverlight'. Select this and a dialog should appear. Click the 'Application Storage' tab and delete any entry that relates to sky go. Clcik OK to close the dialog.3. Open explorer and navigate to the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady4. Rename the file mspr.hds to mspr.hds.OLD5. Go back to the browser and click F5. You may need to logout/login (not sure).Note: Don't rename/delete the folder C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\PlayReady or you will get the error [t6000-c1501]. The folder must exist in order for the new file to be created by Silverlight. Techie talk:So whoever wrote the code to create a new mspr.hds file didn't write code to check the folder existed causing what I assume is a generic error t6000, probably something like:catch (Exception ex) { WriteToLog("Oops, something broke!"); }#

• Ops Center and Oracle Solaris 11

  There have been a few questions about Ops Center and S11 recently. People have been trying to discover and update S11 from Enterprise Controllers installed on S10 or Linux, and running into problems, and wondering what the solution is. Well, the solution is that, if you want to be able to discover, monitor, and update S11 OSes, you need to install your Enterprise Controller and at least one Proxy Controller on S11 systems. The Oracle Solaris and Linux install guides both note this in the chapters that cover preparing your environment. Technically, if you have an S11 Proxy Controller you can at least discover, manage, and monitor S11 systems. However, features like the automated installer and the image packaging system (for OS updates) can only be used through Ops Center if your Enterprise Controller is installed on S11 as well.

Their thirst for new processes to improve with BPM makes them explorers in a landscape of opportunities. They have discovered that with BPM the can “go places” they couldn’t reach before. In a way, learning how to generate value with BPM is like adopting a new mean of transportation. Apps are like regular cars: very efficient, but to be used on paved roads: the road/process has been traced, and there are fixed paths to follow to get from “opportunity to quote” or from “quote to cash”. Getting off the road is risky, and laying down new asphalt is slow and expensive. Custom development is like running: you can go virtually anywhere, following any path you like, yet it’s slow, and a lot of sweat. BPM allows you to go “off the beaten path” laid out by packaged apps, yet make fast progress compared to custom development. BPM is therefore more like an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV): less efficient than a car, but much faster than running, with a powerful enough engine that can get you places. The similarities between BPM and ATVs don’t stop here: you must learn to ride it even if you already know how to drive a car; you can reach places but figuring out the path to your destination is harder. Ultimately, with BPM as with an ATV, you reach places that you thought you could never reach, and you discover new destinations that provide great benefit to you … and that you didn’t even know existed! That’s where the sense of accomplishment that we heard from our BPM customers comes from, as well as the desire to share their experience, or even, as in the case of a County, the willingness to contribute their BPM solutions to help other agencies that face the same challenges. The question we wanted to answer is how can we teach organizations to drive ATV/BPM, thus leading them to deeper success with BPM, while increasing their awareness of the potential for reaching new targets, and finally equip them with the right tools. Like with ATVs, getting from point A to point B is more of a work of art than cruising on the highway by car. There is a lot we can do: after all many sought after destinations are common: someone else has been on the same path before. If only you could learn from their experience …

• Environment Award for AgroSense Java Farm Management System

  Beating IBM's energy information system and Evoswitch's modular data central hall, Ordina's AgroSense, a farm management system for precision agriculture, received the prestigious IT Environment Award in the Netherlands yesterday. AgroSense is an agricultural services platform created in Java on the NetBeans Platform. It looks like this: Among other things, the team has been investigating whether and how to integrate JavaFX games into the AgroSense platform, as well as other JavaFX-oriented effects. • Security for LDAP authentication for Collabnet

  In a previous post, I wrote about how to get LDAP authentication working in Collabnet. By default, all LDAP users are put into the Users role on the server.  For most purposes, this is just fine, and I don’t have a way to change this.  The documentation gives hints that you can add them to other roles, but for now, I don’t have the need. However, adding permissions to different repositories is a different question. To add them, go to the repositories list, select Access Rules and then you can enter in their username, as it sits in Active Directory to the lists for the repositories or for the predefined groups that you have created.  To my knowledge, you cannot use the Active Directory groups in collabnet, which is a big problem.  Needing to micromanage users really limits the usefulness of the LDAP integration. If you live offline few time you can add the this cache directory as your nuget source. For see the folder where nuget cached then just go to Tools > options > Package manager > source > Cached packages > browse. You can add this cached folder as source.     For use nuget package without Visual studio you can try this trick.   open this in your explorer C:\Users\{yourusername}\AppData\Local\NuGet\Cache Now rename the file as described here. for example bootstrap.3.0.2.nupkg to bootstrap.3.0.2.rar open the rar and see the content folder. this folder contain the assembly/library that nuget install in your project.
