Why prefix C# interface names with “I”

I have the following: NSPersistentStoreCoordinator NSManagedObjectContext NSManagedObjectModel Is it possible to run queries directly on the store (since its a sqlite DB)? I'm trying to delete all the records from a tableview, and figured a "DELETE FROM table" would be nice and quick as opposed to looping through the records and removing them manually (which i'm also struggling with). Button not moving on my interface

First before I say anything I want to announce that i'm fairly new to this kind of stuff so don't get all super techie on me :D ! Ok so i'm making an app and i'm trying to get a button to move to certain coordinates depending on the screen size of the phone (4, 4S, 5, etc...). I have correct syntax but the button will not move at all. is "else if" faster than "switch() case" ?

Hello, I'm an ex Pascal guy,currently learning C#. My question is the following: Is the code below faster than making a switch? int a = 5; if (a == 1) { .... } else if(a == 2) { .... } else if(a == 3) { .... } else if(a == 4) { .... } else .... And the switch: int a = 5; switch(a) { case 1: ... break; case 2: ... break; case 3: ... break; case 4: ... break; default: ... break; } Which one is faster? I'm asking ,because my program has a similiar structure(many,many "else if" statements). Should I turn them into switches?

How do you use the C language to produce a ruby gem?

I would like to see some source code or maybe a link to some that gives at least a stub for writing ruby gems in the C languages (C++?? is that possible too?) Also, some of you may know that Facebook compiles some of their code natively as php extensions for better performance. Is anyone doing this in Rails? If so, what has been your experience with it? Have you found it to be useful? Thanks. Is it poor practice to identify objects via an enumeration property, instead of using GetType()?

I have a collection of objects that all implement one (custom) interface: IAuditEvent. Each object can be stored in a database and a unique numeric id is used for each object type. The method that stores the objects loops around a List<IAuditEvent>, so it needs to know the specific type of each object in order to store the correct numeric id. Is it poor practice to have an enumeration property on IAuditEvent so that each object can identify itself with a unique enumeration value? I can see that the simplest solution would be to write a method that translates a Type into an integer, but what if I need an enumeration of audit events for another purpose? Would it still be wrong to have my enumeration property on IAuditEvent?

Android TextWatcher for more than one EditText

I want to implement the TextWatcher interface for more than one EditText fields. Currently I am using : text1.addTextChangedListener(this); text2.addTextChangedListener(this); then overriding the methods in my Activity: public void afterTextChanged(Editable s) {} public void beforeTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int count, int after) {} public void onTextChanged(CharSequence s, int start, int before, int count) { // do some operation on text of text1 field // do some operation on text of text2 field } However this is working fine but I'm looking for other ways so that I can explicitly identify that in which EditText field the SoftKeyboard is currently focused.

Should I use an interface when methods are only similar?

I was posed with the idea of creating an object that checks if a point will collide with a line: public class PointAndLineSegmentCollisionDetector { public void Collides(Point p, LineSegment s) { // ... } } This made me think that if I decided to create a Box object, then I would need a PointAndBoxCollisionDetector and a LineSegmentAndBoxCollisionDetector. I might even realize that I should have a BoxAndBoxCollisionDetector and a LineSegmentAndLineSegmentCollisionDetector. And, when I add new objects that can collide I would need to add even more of these. But, they all have a Collides method, so everything I learned about abstraction is telling me, "Make an interface." public interface CollisionDetector { public void Collides(Spatial s1, Spatial s2); } But now I have a function that only detects some abstract class or interface that is used by Point, LineSegment, Box, etc.. So if I did this then each implementation would have to to a type check to make sure that the types are the appropriate type because the collision algorithm is different for each different type match up. Another solution could be this: public class CollisionDetector { public void Collides(Point p, LineSegment s) { ... } public void Collides(LineSegment s, Box b) { ... } public void Collides(Point p, Box b) { ... } // ... } But, this could end up being a huge class that seems unwieldy, although it would have simplicity in that it is only a bunch of Collide methods. This is similar to C#'s Convert class. Which is nice because it is large, but it is simple to understand how it works. This seems to be the better solution, but I thought I should open it for discussion as a wiki to get other opinions.

I'm trying to design a simple conversion framework based on these requirements: All developers should follow a predefined set of rules to convert from the source entity to the target entity Some overall policies should be able to be applied in a central place, without interference with developers' code Both the creation of converters and usage of converter classes should be easy To solve these problems in C# language, A thought came to my mind. I'm writing it here, though it doesn't compile at all. But let's assume that C# compiles this code: I'll create a generic interface called IConverter public interface IConverter<TSource, TTarget> where TSource : class, new() where TTarget : class, new() { TTarget Convert(TSource source); List<TTarget> Convert(List<TSource> sourceItems); } Developers would implement this interface to create converters. For example: public class PhoneToCommunicationChannelConverter : IConverter<Phone, CommunicationChannle> { public CommunicationChannel Convert(Phone phone) { // conversion logic } public List<CommunicationChannel> Convert(List<Phone> phones) { // conversion logic } } And to make the usage of this conversion class easier, imagine that we add static and this keywords to methods to turn them into Extension Methods, and use them this way: List<Phone> phones = GetPhones(); List<CommunicationChannel> channels = phones.Convert(); However, this doesn't even compile. With those requirements, I can think of some other designs, but they each lack an aspect. Either the implementation would become more difficult or chaotic and out of control, or the usage would become truly hard. Is this design right at all? How do I get the PreviewDialog of Apache FOP to actually display my document?

Search as I may I have not found a solution to my problem here and I'm hoping the combined minds of StackOverflow will push me in the right direction. My problem is as follows, I'm developing a print and print preview portion of a messaging system's user agent. I was given specific XSLT templates that after transforming XML will produce a Formatting Objects document. With Apache FOP I've been able to render the FO document into PDF which is all fine and good, but I would also like to display it in a print preview dialog. Apache FOP contains such a class called PreviewDialog which requires in its constructor a FOUserAgent, which I can generate, and an object implementing the Renderable Interface. The Renderable Interface has one implementing class in the FOP package which is called InputHandler which takes in its constructor a standard io File object. Now here is where the trouble begins. I'm currently storing the FO document as a temp file and pass this as a File object to an InputHandler instance which is then passed to the PreviewDialog. I see the dialog appear on my screen and along the bottom in a status bar it says that it is generating the document, and that is all it does. Here is the code I'm trying to use. A "Trig" Calculating Class

I have been trying to create a gui that calculates trigonometric functions based off of the user's input. For Loop help In a Hash Cracker Homework.

On the homework I am working on we are making a hash cracker. I am implementing it so as to have my cracker. java call worker.java. Worker.java implements Runnable. Worker is to take the start and end of a list of char, the hash it is to crack, and the max length of the password that made the hash. I know I want to do a loop in run() BUT I cannot think of how I would do it so it would go to the given max pasword length. I have posted the code I have so far. Any directions or areas I should look into.... I thought there was a way to do this with a certain way to write the loop but I don't know or can't find the correct syntax. Oh.. also. Why doesn't JFreeCharts correctly connect the points in my xy-line graph?

/Each letter A,T,G,C represents a direction for the plot to graph. Specifically, “A” means move right, “T” is move down, “C” is move up, and “G” is move left. Adding SQL Cache Dependencies to the Loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider

This post adds SQL Cache Dependency support to the loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider that I described in the previous post (http://geekswithblogs.net/Rhames/archive/2012/09/11/loosely-coupled-.net-cache-provider-using-dependency-injection.aspx). The sample code is available on github at https://github.com/RobinHames/CacheProvider.git. Each time we want to apply a cache dependency to a call to fetch or cache a data item we need to supply an instance of the relevant dependency implementation. This suggests an Abstract Factory will be useful to create cache dependencies as needed. We can then use Dependency Injection to inject the factory into the relevant consumer. Castle Windsor provides a typed factory facility that will be utilised to implement the cache dependency abstract factory (see http://docs.castleproject.org/Windsor.Typed-Factory-Facility-interface-based-factories.ashx). Cache Dependency Interfaces First I created a set of cache dependency interfaces in the domain layer, which can be used to pass a cache dependency into the cache provider. ICacheDependency The ICacheDependency interface is simply an empty interface that is used as a parent for the specific cache dependency interfaces. This will allow us to place a generic constraint on the Cache Dependency Factory, and will give us a type that can be passed into the relevant Cache Provider methods. namespace CacheDiSample.Domain.CacheInterfaces { public interface ICacheDependency { } } ISqlCacheDependency.cs The ISqlCacheDependency interface provides specific SQL caching details, such as a Sql Command or a database connection and table. I did this by adding two overloads to the existing Fetch methods, which take an IEnumerable<ICacheDependency> parameter (the IEnumerable allows more than one cache dependency to be included). I also added a method to create cache dependencies. This means that the implementation of the Cache Provider will require a dependency on the Cache Dependency Factory. It is pretty much down to personal choice as to whether this approach is taken, or whether the Cache Dependency Factory is injected directly into the repository or other consumer of Cache Provider. I think, because the cache dependency cannot be used without the Cache Provider, placing the dependency on the factory into the Cache Provider implementation is cleaner. Instead, I created an interface called IAspNetCacheDependency that will provide a Create method to create an instance of the relevant System.Web.Caching Cache Dependency type. This interface is specific to the ASP.NET implementation of the Cache Provider, so it should be defined in the same layer as the concrete implementation of the Cache Provider (the MVC UI layer in the sample code). Now I want to grab all directories with the name test in that directory tree and move them into a new directory called tests, e.g.: src->com->a1 -> A.java -> B.java -> test -> test1.java -> test2.java to src->com->a1 -> A.java -> B.java tests->com->a1->test -> test1.java -> test2.java How would I best do that?

(I hope it is a configuration problem not a Maven plugins related bug!:) My repository URL seems to be ok (the plugin has been complaining before, I fixed that up), I also set a date format for parsing (also been complaining, also fixed). target/changelog.xml being promised was not generated at all. Maven 2.2.1 Mercurial 1.4.3 Windows XP SP3 mvn scm:changelog command provides an expected output. Thanks for any suggestions, I haven't googled up anything (nor binged up;).
