  • how to handle exceptions/errors in php?

    - by fayer
when using 3rd part libraries they tend to throw exceptions to the browser and hence kill the script. eg. if im using doctrine and insert a duplicate record to the database it will throw an exception. i wonder, what is best practice for handling these exceptions. should i always do a try...catch? but doesn't that mean that i will have try...catch all over the script and for every single function/class i use? Or is it just for debugging? i don't quite get the picture. Cause if a record already exists in a database, i want to tell the user "Record already exists". And if i code a library or a function, should i always use "throw new Expcetion($message, $code)" when i want to create an error? Please shed a light on how one should create/handle exceptions/errors. Thanks

  • Using charAt in java

    - by ThuL?nå F?rñ?nDö
    This is my assignment: Write a program where the user enters a string, and the program echoes it to the monitor with one character per line: C:\>java LinePerChar Enter a string: Octopus O c t o p u s I have tried, but I'm getting some compilation errors. Here's my code: import java.util.*; class CharactorEcho{ public static void main(String args []){ Scanner sc = new Scanner(System.in); System.out.println("Enter a string :"); try { String inputString = sc.nextLine(); for(int i=0; i < sc.length(); i++) { char c = inputString.charAt(i); System.out.println("" + c); } } catch(IOException e) { } } }

  • py2app generates .app with no errors but .app crashes and quits unexpectedly

    - by user3705730
I am trying to use py2app and it generates .app with no errors but .app crashes and quits unexpectedly. I am trying to do this in virtualenv so I am not sure if that is an issue with all the paths. It works on my computer when all the virtual environments exist but as soon as I close them down, the .app no longer works. The virtual environment I am using has python 2.7.5 Here is my setup.py: """ This is a setup.py script generated by py2applet Usage: python setup.py py2app """ from setuptools import setup APP = ['myApp.py'] DATA_FILES = [] OPTIONS = {'argv_emulation': True, 'packages': ['pulp']} setup( app=APP, data_files=DATA_FILES, options={'py2app': OPTIONS}, setup_requires=['py2app'], )

  • Question about a dialog form and submit errors

    - by user248959
Hi, I have the link below that executes the action message/new which shows a form inside a jqueryui modal dialog. <div id="myDialog"> </div> echo jq_link_to_remote('Enviar mensaje', array( 'url' => 'mensaje/new?receptor='.$miembro->getId().'&tipo=0&estado=0', 'update' => 'myDialog', 'complete' => "jQuery('#myDialog').dialog({ width:375, height:220, top:123, resizable:false, modal:true, autoOpen: false }); jQuery('#myDialog').dialog('open')" )); The point: if there are submit errors the form is not showed inside the dialog form but in a empty page (mensaje/create).. Any idea? Javi

  • MassTransit Saga - Errors & Inconsistencies

    - by Tolu
I've implemented a masstransit saga that works as should, a lot of times. However, there are times when the messages go to the error queue or just seem to disappear. I'd like to know: 1. How do I get the reason/exception message that causes a message to go to the error queue? (NOTE: My handler logic is within a try-catch block so apparently these errors happen even before the handler logic is called) 2. What could be responsible for the lost messages? Thanks in advance.

  • Creating TCP network errors for unit testing

    - by Robert S. Barnes
I'd like to create various network errors during testing. I'm using the Berkely sockets API directly in C++ on Linux. I'm running a mock server in another thread from within Boost.Test which listens on localhost. For instance, I'd like to create a timeout during connect. So far I've tried not calling accept in my mock server and setting the backlog to 1, then making multiple connections, but all seem to successfully connect. I would think that if there wasn't room in the backlog queue I would at least get a connection refused error if not a timeout. I'd like to do this all programatically if possible, but I'd consider using something external like IPchains to intentionally drop certain packets to certain ports during testing, but I'd need to automate creating and removing rules so I could do it from within my Boost.Test unit tests. I suppose I could mock the various system calls involved, but I'd rather go through a real TCP stack if possible. Ideas?

  • Erroneous/Incorrect C2248 error using Visual Studio 2010

    - by Dylan Bourque
I'm seeing what I believe to be an erroneous/incorrect compiler error using the Visual Studio 2010 compiler. I'm in the process of up-porting our codebase from Visual Studio 2005 and I ran across a construct that was building correctly before but now generates a C2248 compiler error. Obviously, the code snippet below has been generic-ized, but it is a compilable example of the scenario. The ObjectPtr<T> C++ template comes from our codebase and is the source of the error in question. What appears to be happening is that the compiler is generating a call to the copy constructor for ObjectPtr<T> when it shouldn't (see my comment block in the SomeContainer::Foo() method below). For this code construct, there is a public cast operator for SomeUsefulData * on ObjectPtr<SomeUsefulData> but it is not being chosen inside the true expression if the ?: operator. Instead, I get the two errors in the block quote below. Based on my knowledge of C++, this code should compile. Has anyone else seen this behavior? If not, can someone point me to a clarification of the compiler resolution rules that would explain why it's attempting to generate a copy of the object in this case? Thanks in advance, Dylan Bourque Visual Studio build output: c:\projects\objectptrtest\objectptrtest.cpp(177): error C2248: 'ObjectPtr::ObjectPtr' : cannot access private member declared in class 'ObjectPtr' with [ T=SomeUsefulData ] c:\projects\objectptrtest\objectptrtest.cpp(25) : see declaration of 'ObjectPtr::ObjectPtr' with [ T=SomeUsefulData ] c:\projects\objectptrtest\objectptrtest.cpp(177): error C2248: 'ObjectPtr::ObjectPtr' : cannot access private member declared in class 'ObjectPtr' with [ T=SomeUsefulData ] c:\projects\objectptrtest\objectptrtest.cpp(25) : see declaration of 'ObjectPtr::ObjectPtr' with [ T=SomeUsefulData ] Below is a minimal, compilable example of the scenario: #include <stdio.h> #include <tchar.h> template<class T> class ObjectPtr { public: ObjectPtr<T> (T* pObj = NULL, bool bShared = false) : m_pObject(pObj), m_bObjectShared(bShared) {} ~ObjectPtr<T> () { Detach(); } private: // private, unimplemented copy constructor and assignment operator // to guarantee that ObjectPtr<T> objects are not copied ObjectPtr<T> (const ObjectPtr<T>&); ObjectPtr<T>& operator = (const ObjectPtr<T>&); public: T * GetObject () { return m_pObject; } const T * GetObject () const { return m_pObject; } bool HasObject () const { return (GetObject()!=NULL); } bool IsObjectShared () const { return m_bObjectShared; } void ObjectShared (bool bShared) { m_bObjectShared = bShared; } bool IsNull () const { return !HasObject(); } void Attach (T* pObj, bool bShared = false) { Detach(); if (pObj != NULL) { m_pObject = pObj; m_bObjectShared = bShared; } } void Detach (T** ppObject = NULL) { if (ppObject != NULL) { *ppObject = m_pObject; m_pObject = NULL; m_bObjectShared = false; } else { if (HasObject()) { if (!IsObjectShared()) delete m_pObject; m_pObject = NULL; m_bObjectShared = false; } } } void Detach (bool bDeleteIfNotShared) { if (HasObject()) { if (bDeleteIfNotShared && !IsObjectShared()) delete m_pObject; m_pObject = NULL; m_bObjectShared = false; } } bool IsEqualTo (const T * pOther) const { return (GetObject() == pOther); } public: T * operator -> () { ASSERT(HasObject()); return m_pObject; } const T * operator -> () const { ASSERT(HasObject()); return m_pObject; } T & operator * () { ASSERT(HasObject()); return *m_pObject; } const T & operator * () const { ASSERT(HasObject()); return (const C &)(*m_pObject); } operator T * () { return m_pObject; } operator const T * () const { return m_pObject; } operator bool() const { return (m_pObject!=NULL); } ObjectPtr<T>& operator = (T * pObj) { Attach(pObj, false); return *this; } bool operator == (const T * pOther) const { return IsEqualTo(pOther); } bool operator == (T * pOther) const { return IsEqualTo(pOther); } bool operator != (const T * pOther) const { return !IsEqualTo(pOther); } bool operator != (T * pOther) const { return !IsEqualTo(pOther); } bool operator == (const ObjectPtr<T>& other) const { return IsEqualTo(other.GetObject()); } bool operator != (const ObjectPtr<T>& other) const { return !IsEqualTo(other.GetObject()); } bool operator == (int pv) const { return (pv==NULL)? • Displaying form validation errors in a template (Symfony)

    - by Jay
Hi, let's say I have a blog with a module "post". now I display a post like this: post/index?id=1 in the index-action i generate a new CommentForm and pass it as $this-form to the template and it is being displayed at the bottom of a post (it's just a textfield, nothing special). form action is set to "post/addcomment". How can I display the validation errors in this form? using setTemplate('index') doesn't work because I would have to pass the id=1 to it... thanks

  • Phonegap 2.1 for Android - Hello World App 3 errors at launch

I developed something with Phonegap for iOS, but this is my first trial for Android. I created my hello world application with CLI sth like this mentioned here: $ /path/to/cordova-android/bin/create /path/to/my_new_cordova_project com.example.cordova_project_name CordovaProjectName Even though I created this app in Eclipse Workspace, I needed to import it to Eclipse. I created two AVDs. One for API level 8, one for API level 16. When I try to build, it gives me these three errors and a warning. What is wrong with my setup? • Errors in UILabel

    - by Todd Davies
I'm trying to use the FXlabel when following this (Adding a gradient label section) tutorial. This is some of the code inside my viewDidLoad method: self.logoLabel = [[FXLabel alloc] initWithFrame:CGRectMake(14, 11, 280, 87)]; [logoLabel setFont:[UIFont boldSystemFontOfSize:45]]; [logoLabel setTextColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; [logoLabel setShadowColor:[UIColor blackColor]]; [logoLabel setShadowOffset:CGSizeMake(0, 2)]; [logoLabel setTextAlignment:UITextAlignmentCenter]; [logoLabel setBackgroundColor:[UIColor clearColor]]; [logoLabel setText:@"Attorney Biz"]; [logoLabel setGradientStartColor:[UIColor colorWithRed:163.0/255 green:203.0/255 blue:222.0/255 alpha:1.0]]; [logoLabel setGradientEndColor:[UIColor whiteColor]]; Unfortnuately, I get an error "No visible @interface for 'UILabel' declares the selector 'setGradientStartColor'" at the second-to-last line and "No visible @interface for 'UILabel' declares the selector 'setGradientEndColor'" Can somebody explain how to remove these errors?

  • Errors not being redirected to an Http handler if redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"

    - by Luk
I see similar questions, but it looks like there were due to an unrelated issue. in 3.5, I have a custom error handler that logs errors and redirects users. My web.config is set up as such: <httpHandlers> <add path="error.ashx" type="MySite.Tools.WebErrorLogger, MySite.Tools" verb="*"/> </httpHandlers> <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="error.ashx" redirectMode="ResponseRewrite"> </customErrors> When redirectMode is set to "ResponseRedirect", everything works fine (but Server.GetLastError() being null but that seems to be intended) However, when using ResponseRewrite, my handler is not called and I see ASP.Net default error pages. Any idea on how I could do this? (I unfortunately can't use either an aspx page or do my error handling in global.asax due to other constraints)

  • Ignoring (serious) errors to keep the program alive?

    - by SQuirreL bites
One of the main things I wanted to achieve in my experimental programming language was: When errors occur (Syntax, Name, Type, etc.) keep the program running, no matter how serious or devastating it is. I know that this is probably very bad, but I just wanted something that doesn't kill itself on every error - I find it interesting what happens when a serious error occurs but the program continues. Does this "paradigm" have a name? I mean expect for How bad is it to do the above? Are there programs in use out there that just follow: "Hey, this is a fatal, unexpected error - but you know what? I don't care!"?

  • Jquery Validation Central Message Many Errors

    - by Iamjon
Hi everyone, I have a form that is being valdated with the Jquery Validation Plugin. I have managed to get a centeral message "Please Recheck the form", and to have the input focus on the first error. To get this, I had to override the default message of each of the errors. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure out how I can have it display the error message associated with the first error input instead of a general error message. Here is the code: $("#Help-A-Noobie-Form" ).validate({ invalidHandler: function(form, validator) { $(this).find(":input.error:first").focus(); var message = 'Please Recheck The Form' ; $("#Help-A-Noobie-Form #Message p").addClass('red').html(message); }, showErrors: function(errorMap, errorList) { this.defaultShowErrors(); }, rules: { required:true, email: {email:true}, phone: {digits:true} }, messages: { email: "", phone: "", lastname: "", firstname: "", required:"" } })

  • [Java6] Same source code, Eclipse build success but Maven (javac) fails

    - by EnToutCas
Keep getting this error when compiling using Maven: type parameters of <X>X cannot be determined; no unique maximal instance exists for type variable X with upper bounds int,java.lang.Object Generics type interference cannot be applied to primitive types. But I thought since Java5, boxing/unboxing mechanism works seamlessly between primitive types and wrapper classes. In any case, the strange thing is Eclipse doesn't report any errors and happily compiles. I'm using JDK1.6.0_12. What could possibly be the problem here?

  • arrays declaration and addressing

    - by avinash
    I have a few straightforward questions:- Is the following correct according to a normal c++ compiler? int arr[3][4]; void func(int *a, int m, int n) { int i,j; cin>>i>>j; cout<< a[i*n + j]; //is this way of addressing correct provided 0<=i<m and 0<=j<n } int main() { func((int*)arr, 3,4); } If the bounds of an array strictly has to be a constant expression, why doesn't the following generate compiler errors? int func(int m, int n) { int arr[m][n]; //m and n are not known until run time }

  • Checking validation errors in XMLHttpRequest

    - by egaga
$.post(actionUrl, serializedForm, function(response) { ... } I need to check whether validation of form succeeded, or not (I don't need to know the exact validation errors). The validation is done by Spring, and I wouldn't like to interfere the process, because there's some annoying dependencies. What would be the best approach? Is there a Spring error object in response, or is it accessible only in server side? I would also like to know if there's is any proper documentation about response in jQuery site? How can I traverse or manipulate it?

  • DataMapper save fails but with no errors

    - by Justin Bozonier
When I try to modify and then save a model using DataMapper I get a SaveFailure exception but no errors. Specifically I see this message: "MonthlyBill#save returned false, MonthlyBill was not saved" This is the code doing the saving: post '/monthly_bills' do with_authenticated_user do |user| description = params[:description] expected_amount = params[:expected_amount] pay_period = params[:pay_period] monthly_bill = MonthlyBill.new(:description=>description, :expected_amount=>expected_amount, :pay_period=>pay_period) user.MonthlyBills << monthly_bill user.save end The User model: class User include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :email_address, String property :password, String has n, :MonthlyBills has 1, :CurrentPayPeriod end The MonthlyBill model: class MonthlyBill include DataMapper::Resource property :id, Serial property :description, String property :expected_amount,Decimal property :pay_period, Integer belongs_to :user end What is the issue and, more importantly, how can I get DataMapper to tell me more specifically what is wrong?

  • How should I deal with sqlite errors?

    - by Dustin
I have a long running application written in a mix of C and C++ that stores data in sqlite. While I am confident that committed data will remain available (barring mechanical failure) and uncommitted data will not be, it's not clear to me what I can do with this sort of middle state. I do a large number of inserts in a transaction and then commit it. When an error occurs on a given statement, I can schedule it to be attempted at some point in the future. It sounds like some errors might implicitly rollback my transaction (which would be undesirable if true). A larger problem is what happens when my commit itself fails. Currently, I'm just going to continue to retry it until it works. I would expect that whatever would cause my commit to fail may very well also cause a rollback to fail. What is the recommended mechanism for error handling in such a situation?

  • Use C function in C++ program; "multiply-defined" error

    - by eom
I am trying to use this code for the Porter stemming algorithm in a C++ program I've already written. I followed the instructions near the end of the file for using the code as a separate module. I created a file, stem.c, that ends after the definition and has extern int stem(char * p, int i, int j) ... It worked fine in Xcode but it does not work for me on Unix with gcc 4.1.1--strange because usually I have no problem moving between the two. I get the error ld: fatal: symbol `stem(char*, int, int)' is multiply-defined: (file /var/tmp//ccrWWlnb.o type=FUNC; file /var/tmp//cc6rUXka.o type=FUNC); ld: fatal: File processing errors. No output written to cluster I've looked online and it seems like there are many things I could have wrong, but I'm not sure what combination of a header file, extern "C", etc. would work.

  • Can I catch bad pointer errors in C++?

Hi there, I was wondering if there is a possibility to catch errors like this in C++: object* p = new object; delete p; delete p; //this would cause an error, can I catch this? Can I check if the pointer is valid? Can I catch some exception? I know I could set the pointer p to NULL after the first object deletion. But just imagine you wouldn't do that. I am using VC++ with Visual Studio 2008/2010. Thank you

  • Recordset Update errors when updating sql_variant field

    - by Stephen Nutt
I'm using C++ and ADO to add data to a SQL Server 2005 database. When calling the Recordset Update method for a sql_variant column I'm getting the error DB_E_ERRORSOCCURRED and the error message Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done. If the value I'm adding is NULL all works fine and all values going to the fields that are not sql_variant types work. Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks [Edit] I have some more information. The value we are storing is the empty string - ADO appears to want to store this in the sql_variant as a nchar(0), which of course is not a valid SQL data type. Is there a way to get an empty string in a sql_variant using the ADO batch commands?

  • Proper mechanism for sending PHP errors to the client

    - by Chris
Greetings, I was trying to discover a proper way to send captured errors or business logic exceptions to the client in an Ajax-PHP system. In my case, the browser needs to react differently depending on whether a request was successful or not. However in all the examples I've found, only a simple string is reported back to the browser in both cases. Eg: if (something worked) echo "Success!"; else echo "ERROR: that failed"; So when the browser gets back the Ajax response, the only way to know if an error occurred would be to parse the string (looking for 'error' perhaps). This seems clunky. Is there a better/proper way to send back the Ajax response & notify the browser of an error? Thank you.
