  • How can I remove relative path components but leave symlinks alone in Perl?

    - by jnylen
    I need to get Perl to remove relative path components from a Linux path. I've found a couple of functions that almost do what I want, but: File::Spec->rel2abs does too little. It does not resolve ".." into a directory properly. Cwd::realpath does too much. It resolves all symbolic links in the path, which I do not want. Perhaps the best way to illustrate how I want this function to behave is to post a bash log where FixPath is a hypothetical command that gives the desired output: '/tmp/test'$ mkdir -p a/b/c1 a/b/c2 '/tmp/test'$ cd a '/tmp/test/a'$ ln -s b link '/tmp/test/a'$ ls b link '/tmp/test/a'$ cd b '/tmp/test/a/b'$ ls c1 c2 '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath . # rel2abs works here ===> /tmp/test/a/b '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath .. # realpath works here ===> /tmp/test/a '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath c1 # rel2abs works here ===> /tmp/test/a/b/c1 '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath ../b # realpath works here ===> /tmp/test/a/b '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath ../link/c1 # neither one works here ===> /tmp/test/a/link/c1 '/tmp/test/a/b'$ FixPath missing # should work for nonexistent files ===> /tmp/test/a/b/missing

  • How do I set Perl's @INC for a CGI script?

    - by pistacchio
    I have the follwing, simplest Perl CGI script: use strict; use warnings; use CGI(); use CGI::Carp qw(fatalsToBrowser); use Template; print CGI::header(); foreach(@INC) { print "$_\n"; } When called (http://[..]/cgi-bin/p.cgi) I am given the following error: Can't locate Template.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl/5.8.8 /usr/lib/perl5/vendor_perl /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i386-linux-thread-multi /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.8 .) at /home/pistacchio/webapps/htdocs/cgi-bin/p.cgi line 8.   • How can I build a generic dataset-handling Perl library?

    - by Pep.
    Hello, I want to build a generic Perl module for handling and analysing biomedical character separated datasets and which can, most certain, be used on any kind of datasets that contain a mixture of categorical (A,B,C,..) and continuous (1.2,3,881..) and identifier (XXX1,XXX2...). The plan is to have people initialize the module and then use some arguments to point to the data file(s), the place were the analysis reports should be placed and the structure of the data. By structure of data I mean which variable is in which place and its name/type. And this is where I need some enlightenment. I am baffled how to do this in a clean way. Obviously, having people create a simple schema file, be it XML or some other format would be the cleanest but maybe not all people enjoy doing something like this. The solutions I can think of are: Create a configuration file in XML or similar and with a prespecified format. Pass the information during initialization of the module. Use the first row of the data as headers and try to guess types (ouch) Surely there must be a "canonical" way of doing this that is also usable and efficient. Thanks p.

  • Is it possible in Perl to require a subroutine call is made?

    - by MitchelWB
    I don't know enough about Perl to even know what I'm asking for exactly, but I'm writing a series of subroutines to be available for many individual scripts that all process different incoming flat files. The process is far from perfect, but it's what I've got to deal with and I'm trying to build myself a small library of subs that make it easier for me to manage it all. Each script handles a different incoming flat file with it's own formatting, sorting, grouping and outputting requirements. One common aspect is that we have small text files that house counters that are used to name the output files so that we have no duplicate file names. Because the processing of the data is different for each file, I need to open the file to get my counter value, because this is a common operation, I'd like to put it in a sub to retrieve the counter. But then need to write specific code to process the data. And would like a second sub that allows me to update the counter with the counter once I've processed the data. Is there a way to make the second sub call a requirement if the first one is called? Ideally if it could even be an error that would prevent the script from running at all much like a syntax error. EDIT: Here is a little [ugly and simplified] psuedo-code to give a better feel for what the current process is: require "importLibrary.plx"; #open data source file open DataIn, $filename; #call getCounterInfo from importLibrary.plx to get the counter value from counter file $counter = &getCounterInfo($counterFileName); while (<DataIn>) { #Process data based on unique formatting and requirements #output to task files based on requirements and name files using the $counter #increment $counter } #update counter file with new value of $counter &updateCounterInfo($counter);

  • In Perl, how can I wait for threads to end in parallel?

    - by Pmarcoen
    I have a Perl script that launches 2 threads,one for each processor. I need it to wait for a thread to end, if one thread ends a new one is spawned. It seems that the join method blocks the rest of the program, therefore the second thread can't end until everything the first thread does is done which sort of defeats its purpose. I tried the is_joinable method but that doesn't seem to do it either. Here is some of my code : use threads; use threads::shared; @file_list = @ARGV; #Our file list $nofiles = $#file_list + 1; #Real number of files $currfile = 1; #Current number of file to process my %MSG : shared; #shared hash $thr0 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; $thr1 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; while(1){ if ($thr0->is_joinable()) { $thr0->join; #check if there are files left to process if($currfile <= $nofiles){ $thr0 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; } } if ($thr1->is_joinable()) { $thr1->join; #check if there are files left to process if($currfile <= $nofiles){ $thr1 = threads->new(\&process, shift(@file_list)); $currfile++; } } } sub process{ print "Opening $currfile of $nofiles\n"; #do some stuff if(some condition){ lock(%MSG); #write stuff to hash } print "Closing $currfile of $nofiles\n"; } The output of this is : Opening 1 of 4 Opening 2 of 4 Closing 1 of 4 Opening 3 of 4 Closing 3 of 4 Opening 4 of 4 Closing 2 of 4 Closing 4 of 4

  • How to parse time stamps with Unicode characters in Java or Perl?

    - by ram
    I'm trying to make my code as generic as possible. I'm trying to parse install time of a product installation. I will have two files in the product, one that has time stamp I need to parse and other file tells the language of the installation. This is how I'm parsing the timestamp public class ts { public static void main (String[] args){ String installTime = "2009/11/26 \u4e0b\u5348 04:40:54"; //This timestamp I got from the first file. Those unicode charecters are some Chinese charecters...AM/PM I guess //Locale = new Locale();//don't set the language yet SimpleDateFormat df = (SimpleDateFormat)DateFormat.getDateTimeInstance(DateFormat.DEFAULT,DateFormat.DEFAULT); Date instTime = null; try { instTime = df.parse(installTime); } catch (ParseException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } System.out.println(instTime.toString()); } } The output I get is Parsing Failed java.text.ParseException: Unparseable date: "2009/11/26 \u4e0b\u5348 04:40:54" at java.text.DateFormat.parse(Unknown Source) at ts.main(ts.java:39) Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at ts.main(ts.java:45) It throws exception and at the end when I print it, it shows some proper date... wrong though. I would really appreciate if you could clarify me on these doubts How to parse timestamps that have unicode characters if this is not the proper way? If parsing is failed, how could instTime able to hold some date, wrong though? I know its some chinese,Korean time stamps so I set the locale to zh and ko as follows.. even then same error comes again Locale = new Locale("ko"); Locale = new Locale("ja"); Locale = new Locale("zh"); How can I do the same thing in Perl? I can't use Date::Manip package; Is there any other way?

  • Why does Perl's Devel::LeakTrace::Fast point to blank files and evals?

    - by kt
    I am using Devel::LeakTrace::Fast to debug a memory leak in a perl script designed as a daemon which runs an infinite loop with sleeps until interrupted. I am having some trouble both reading the output and finding documentation to help me understand the output. The perldoc doesn't contain much information on the output. Most of it makes sense, such as pointing to globals in DBI. Intermingled with the output, however, are several leaked SV(<LOCATION>) from (eval #) line # Where the numbers are numbers and <LOCATION> is a location in memory. The script itself is not using eval at any point - I have not investigated each used module to see if evals are present. Mostly what I want to know is how to find these evals (if possible). I also find the following entries repeated over and over again leaked SV(<LOCATION>) from line # Where line # is always the same #. Not very helpful in tracking down what file that line is in.

  • Is there a Perl module for parsing numbers, including ranges?

    - by sid_com
    Is there a module, which does this for me? sample_input: 2, 5-7, 9, 3, 11-14 #!/usr/bin/env perl use warnings; use strict; use 5.012; sub aw_parse { my( $in, $max ) = @_; chomp $in; my @array = split ( /\s*,\s*/, $in ); my %zahlen; for ( @array ) { if ( /^\s*(\d+)\s*$/ ) { $zahlen{$1}++; } elsif ( /^\s*(\d+)\s*-\s*(\d+)\s*$/ ) { die "'$1-$2' not a valid input $!" if $1 >= $2; for ( $1 .. $2 ) { $zahlen{$_}++; } } else { die "'$_' not a valid input $!"; } } @array = sort { $a <=> $b } keys ( %zahlen ); if ( defined $max ) { for ( @array ) { die "Input '0' not allowed $!" if $_ == 0; die "Input ($_) greater than $max not allowed $!" if $_ > $max; } } return \@array; } my $max = 20; print "Input (max $max): "; my $in = <>; my $out = aw_parse( $in, $max ); say "@$out";

  • Which Perl moudle can handle variety of date formats with unicode characters ?

    - by ram
    My requirement is parsing xml files which contains wide varieties of timestamps based on the locales at which they are written. They may contain Unicode characters in case of Chinese or Korean locales. I have to parse these timestamps and put then in a standard format something like 2009-11-26 12:40:54 to put them in a oracle database. Sometimes I may not even know the locale and yet I have to parse the timestamps. I am looking for a module that automatically detects the timestamp format (including unicode characters for am and pm in their local language) and converts in to epoch time so that I can convert it back to what ever way I like to. I have gone through similar questions in this forum. Few suggested DateFormat module, and Date::Parse module. The perl distribution I am using is 5.10 so Date::Manip doesn't come as a core module. As I am supposed to use just the basic core modules and few CPAN modules(on request I cannot ask for all), I request you to kindly suggest me a good module that suffices all my requirements. Thanks in advance

  • Perl : In splice() type of arg1 must be array, cannot be scalar dereference. How to fix?

    - by Michael Mao
    I am trying to comprehend the reference/dereference system in Perl. What I am trying to do is to remove an element by using reference: my $ref= \@{$collection{$_[0]}}; # delete($$ref[$i]); # delete works, I've tested that already splice($$ref, $i, 1); # this wouldn't do. I first tried the delete() subroutine, it works; however, it doesn't shift the index after the removed elements forward by 1, so I cannot continue working on other stuff. I then Googled and found the splice() subroutine which does delete and shift in one go. But the error feedback tells me that "Type of arg 1 to splice must be array (not scalar dereference)..." I then tried something like this: splice(@{$$ref}, $i, 1); That resulted in another error like this: "Not a SCALAR reference at...(pointing at that line)" So I am a bit puzzled, how could I handle this issue? I prefer not using any CPAN or additional library for the solution, if possible.

  • Why does my Perl TCP server script hang with many TCP connections?

    - by viraptor
    I've got a strange issue with a server accepting TCP connections. Even though there are normally some processes waiting, at some volume of connections it hangs. Long version: The server is written in Perl and binds a $srv socket with the reuse flag and listen == 5. Afterwards, it forks into 10 processes with a loop of $clt=$srv->accept(); do_processing($clt); $clt->shutdown(2); The client written in C is also very simple - it sends some lines, then receives all lines available and does a shutdown(sockfd, 2); There's nothing async going on and at the end both send and receive queues are empty (as reported by netstat). Connections last only ~20ms. All clients behave the same way, are the same implementation, etc. Now let's say I'm accepting X connections from client 1 and another X from client 2. Processes still report that they're idle all the time. If I add another X connections from client 3, suddenly the server processes start hanging just after accepting. The first blocking thing they do after accept(); is while (<$clt>) ... - but they don't get any data (on the first try already). Suddenly all 10 processes are in this state and do not stop waiting. On strace, the server processes seem to hang on read(), which makes sense. There are loads of connections in TIME_WAIT state belonging to that server (~100 when the problem starts to manifest), but this might be a red herring. What could be happening here?

  • How can I pass a hash to a Perl subroutine?

    - by Vishalrix
    In one of my main( or primary) routines,I have two or more hashes. I want the subroutine foo() to recieve these possibly-multiple hashes as distinct hashes. Right now I have no preference if they go by value, or as references. I am struggling with this for the last many hours and would appreciate help, so that I dont have to leave perl for php! ( I am using mod_perl, or will be) Right now I have got some answer to my requirement, shown here From http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-803720-start-0.html # sub: dump the hash values with the keys '1' and '3' sub dumpvals { foreach $h (@_) { print "1: $h->{1} 3: $h->{3}\n"; } } # initialize an array of anonymous hash references @arr = ({1,2,3,4}, {1,7,3,8}); # create a new hash and add the reference to the array $t{1} = 5; $t{3} = 6; push @arr, \%t; # call the sub dumpvals(@arr); I only want to extend it so that in dumpvals I could do something like this: foreach my %k ( keys @_[0]) { # use $k and @_[0], and others } The syntax is wrong, but I suppose you can tell that I am trying to get the keys of the first hash ( hash1 or h1), and iterate over them. How to do it in the latter code snippet above?

  • IIS 7.5 on Windows Server 2008 R2 refusing to create PASSIVE MODE FTP connections

    - by Campbell
    I'm attempting to get an FTP client written in perl to transfer files from an IIS 7.5 FTP server using passive mode. I've configured the FTP server as per instructions and have also configured Windows Firewall to allow this type of traffic. I have validated that the firewall is behaviong correctly by checking to ensure there are no blocked packets in the logs. I have verified the that FTP control channel is being opened on Port 21. I believe the client is being told by IIS which port to connect on for passive mode and IIS is refusing to allow this connection. • Why is Perl's Math::Complex taking up so much time when I try acos(1)?

    - by synapz
    While trying to profile my Perl program, I find that Math::Complex is taking up a lot of time with what looks like some kind of warning. • What's the best way to do base36 arithmetic in perl?

    - by DVK
    What's the best way to do base36 arithmetic in Perl? To be more specific, I need to be able to do the following: Operate on positive N-digit numbers in base 36 (e.g. digits are 0-9 A-Z) N is finite, say 9 Provide basic arithmetic, at the very least the following 3: Addition (A+B) Subtraction (A-B) Whole division, e.g. floor(A/B). Strictly speaking, I don't really need a base10 conversion ability - the numbers will 100% of time be in base36. So I'm quite OK if the solution does NOT implement conversion from base36 back to base10 and vice versa. I don't much care whether the solution is brute-force "convert to base 10 and back" or converting to binary, or some more elegant approach "natively" performing baseN operations (as stated above, to/from base10 conversion is not a requirement). My only 3 considerations are: It fits the minimum specifications above It's "standard". Currently we're using and old homegrown module based on base10 conversion done by hand that is buggy and sucks. I'd much rather replace that with some commonly used CPAN solution instead of re-writing my own bicycle from scratch, but I'm perfectly capable of building it if no better standard possibility exists. It must be fast-ish (though not lightning fast). Something that takes 1 second to sum up 2 9-digit base36 numbers is worse than anything I can roll on my own :) P.S. Just to provide some context in case people decide to solve my XY problem for me in addition to answering the technical question above :) We have a fairly large tree (stored in DB as a bunch of edges), and we need to superimpose order on a subset of that tree. The tree dimentions are big both depth- and breadth- wise. The tree is VERY actively updated (inserts and deletes and branch moves). This is currently done by having a second table with 3 columns: parent_vertex, child_vertex, local_order, where local_order is an 9-character string built of A-Z0-9 (e.g. base 36 number). Additional considerations: It is required that the local order is unique per child (and obviously unique per parent), Any complete re-ordering of a parent is somewhat expensive, and thus the implementation is to try and assign - for a parent with X children - the orders which are somewhat evenly distributed between 0 and 36**10-1, so that almost no tree inserts result in a full re-ordering.

  • I can I separate multiple logical pages in a text file I create in Perl?

    - by Micah
    So far, I've been successful with generating output to individual files by opening a file for output as part of outer loop and closing it after all output is written. I had used a counting variable ($x) and appended .txt onto it to create a filename, and had written it to the same directory as my perl script. I want to step the code up a bit, prompt for a file name from the user, open that file once and only once, and write my output one "printed letter" per page. Is this possible in plain text? From what I understand, chr(12) is an ascii line feed character and will get me close to what I want, but is there a better way? Thanks in advance, guys. :) sub PersonalizeLetters{ print "\n\n Beginning finalization of letters..."; print "\n\n I need a filename to save these letters to."; print "\n Filename > "; $OutFileName = <stdin>; chomp ($OutFileName); open(OutFile, ">$OutFileName"); for ($x=0; $x<$NumRecords; $x++){ $xIndex = (6 * $x); $clTitle = @ClientAoA[$xIndex]; $clName = @ClientAoA[$xIndex+1]; #I use this 6x multiplier because my records have 6 elements. #For this routine I'm only interested in name and title. #Reset OutLetter array #Midletter has other merged fields that aren't specific to who's receiving the letter. @OutLetter = @MiddleLetter; for ($y=0; $y<=$ifLength; $y++){ #Step through line by line and insert the name. $WorkLine = @OutLetter[$y]; $WorkLine =~ s/\[ClientTitle\]/$clTitle/; $WorkLine =~ s/\[ClientName\]/$clName/; @OutLetter[$y] = $WorkLine; } print OutFile "@OutLetter"; #Will chr(12) work here, or is there something better? print OutFile chr(12); $StatusX = $x+1; print "Writing output $StatusX of $NumRecords... \n\n"; } close(OutFile); }

    Case 1 If I run below command i.e iperf in UL only, then i am able to capture the o/p in txt file @output = readpipe("iperf.exe -u -c 127.0.0.1 -p 5001 -b 3600k -t 10 -i 1"); open FILE, ">Misplay_DL.txt" or die $!; print FILE @output; close FILE; Case 2 When I run iperf in DL mode , as we know server will start listening in cont. mode like below even after getting data from client (Here i am using server and client on LAN) @output = system("iperf.exe -u -s -p 5001 -i 1"); on server side: D:\_IOT_SESSION_RELATED\SEEM_ELEMESNTS_AT_COMM_PORT_CONF\Tput_Related_Tools\AUTO MATION_APP_\AUTOMATION_UTILITYiperf.exe -u -s -p 5001 ------------------------------------------------------------ Server listening on UDP port 5001 Receiving 1470 byte datagrams UDP buffer size: 8.00 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [1896] local 192.168.5.101 port 5001 connected with 192.168.5.101 port 4878 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth Jitter Lost/Total Datagrams [1896] 0.0- 2.0 sec 881 KBytes 3.58 Mbits/sec 0.000 ms 0/ 614 (0%) command prompt does not appear , process is contd... on client side: D:\_IOT_SESSION_RELATED\SEEM_ELEMESNTS_AT_COMM_PORT_CONF\Tput_Related_Tools\AUTO MATION_APP_\AUTOMATION_UTILITYiperf.exe -u -c 192.168.5.101 -p 5001 -b 3600k -t 2 -i 1 ------------------------------------------------------------ Client connecting to 192.168.5.101, UDP port 5001 Sending 1470 byte datagrams UDP buffer size: 8.00 KByte (default) ------------------------------------------------------------ [1880] local 192.168.5.101 port 4878 connected with 192.168.5.101 port 5001 [ ID] Interval Transfer Bandwidth [1880] 0.0- 1.0 sec 441 KBytes 3.61 Mbits/sec [1880] 1.0- 2.0 sec 439 KBytes 3.60 Mbits/sec [1880] 0.0- 2.0 sec 881 KBytes 3.58 Mbits/sec [1880] Server Report: [1880] 0.0- 2.0 sec 881 KBytes 3.58 Mbits/sec 0.000 ms 0/ 614 (0%) [1880] Sent 614 datagrams D:\_IOT_SESSION_RELATED\SEEM_ELEMESNTS_AT_COMM_PORT_CONF\Tput_Related_Tools\AUTO MATION_APP_\AUTOMATION_UTILITY so with this as server is cont. listening and never terminates so can't take output of server side to a txt file as it is going to the next command itself to create a txt file so i adopted the alarm() function to terminate the server side (iperf.exe -u -s -p 5001) commands after it received all data from the client. could anybody suggest me the way.. Output was:\n", @output; } open FILE, ">display.txt" or die $!; print FILE @output_1; close FILE; i know that with system command i cannot capture the o/p to a txt file but i tried with readpipe() and exec() calls also but in vain... could some one please take a look and let me know why the iperf.exe -u -s -p 5001 is not terminating even after the alarm call and to take the out put to a txt file

  • How can I implement the Gale-Shapley stable marriage algorithm in Perl?

    - by srk
    Problem : We have equal number of men and women.each men has a preference score toward each woman. So do the woman for each man. each of the men and women have certain interests. Based on the interest we calculate the preference scores. So initially we have an input in a file having x columns. First column is the person(men/woman) id. id are nothing but 0.. n numbers.(first half are men and next half woman) the remaining x-1 columns will have the interests. these are integers too. now using this n by x-1 matrix... we have come up with a n by n/2 matrix. the new matrix has all men and woman as their rows and scores for opposite sex in columns. We have to sort the scores in descending order, also we need to know the id of person related to the scores after sorting. So here i wanted to use hash table. once we get the scores we need to make up pairs.. for which we need to follow some rules. My trouble is with the second matrix of n by n/2 that needs to give information of which man/woman has how much preference on a woman/man. I need these scores sorted so that i know who is the first preferred woman/man, 2nd preferred and so on for a man/woman. I hope to get good suggestions on the data structures i use.. I prefer php or perl. Thank you in advance Hey guys this is not an home work. This a little modified version of stable marriage algorithm. I have working solution. I am only working on optimizing my code. more info: It is very similar to stable marriage problem but here we need to calculate the scores based on the interests they share. So i have implemented it as the way you see in the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stable_marriage_problem. my problem is not solving the problem. i solved it and can run it. I am just trying to have a better solution. so i am asking suggestions on the type of data structure to use. Conceptually I tried using an array of hashes. where the array index give the person id and the hash in it gives the id's <= score's in sorted manner. I initially start with an array of hashes. now i sort the hashes on values, but i could not store the sorted hashes back in an array.So just stored the keys after sorting and used these to get the values from my initial unsorted hashes. Can we store the hashes after sorting ? Can you suggest a better structure ?

  • How do I edit an XML file with Perl?

    - by thebourneid
    I have a movie collection catalogue with local links to folders and files for an easy access. Recently I reorganaized my entire hard disk space and I need to update the links and I'm trying to do that automatically with Perl. I can export the data in a XML file and import it again. I can extract the new filepaths with the use of File::Find but I'm stuck with two problems. I have no idea how to connect the $title from the new filepath with the corresponding $title from the XML file. I'm dealing with such files for the first time and I don't know how to proceed with the replacement process. Here is what I've done till now use strict; use warnings; use File::Basename; use File::Find; use File::Spec; use XML::Simple; use Data::Dumper; my $dir_target = 'D:/Movies/'; my %titles_locations = (); find(\&file_handler, $dir_target); sub file_handler { /\.iso$/ or return; my $fn = $File::Find::name; $fn =~ s/\//\\/g; $fn =~ /(.*\\)(.*)/; my $path = $1; my $filename = $2; my $title = (File::Spec->splitdir($fn))[2]; $title =~ s/(.*?)\s\(\d+\)$/$1/; $title =~ s/~/:/; $title =~ s/`/?/; my $link_local = '<link><description>Folder</description><url>'.$path.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link><link><description>'.$filename.'</description><url>'.$fn.'</url><urltype>Movie</urltype></link>' unless $title eq ''; $titles_locations{$title} = {'filename'=>$filename, 'path'=>$path }; } my $xml_in = XMLin('somepath/test.xml', ForceArray => 1, KeepRoot => 1); my $title = {'key1' => 'title', 'key2' => 'links'}; foreach my $link (keys %$title) { } print Data::Dumper->Dump([$title]); my $xml_out = XMLout($xml_in, OutputFile => 'somepath/test_out.xml', KeepRoot=>1); And here is a snippet of the data I need to edit. If found imdb and dvdempire link - do not touch. if found local links replace, otherwise insert. I'm willing to complete the code myself but need some directions how to proceed further. • Perl not closing TCP sockets if clients are no longer connected?

    - by LM
    The purpose of the application is to listen for a specific UDP multicast and then to forward the data to any TCP clients connected to the server. The code works fine, but I have a problem with the sockets not closing after the TCP clients disconnects. A socketsniffer utility shows the the sockets remain open and all the UDP data continues to be forwarded to the clients. The problem I believe is with the "if ($write-connected())" block as it always return true, even if the TCP client is no longer connected. I use standard Windows Telnet to connect to the server and to see the data. When I close telnet, the TCP socket is suppose to close on the server. Any reason why connected() show the connections as active even if they are not? Also, what alternative should I use then? Code: #!/usr/bin/perl use IO::Socket::Multicast; use IO::Socket; use IO::Select; my $tcp_port = "4550"; my $tcp_socket = IO::Socket::INET->new( Listen => SOMAXCONN, LocalAddr => '0.0.0.0', LocalPort => $tcp_port, Proto => 'tcp', ReuseAddr => 1, ); use Socket qw(IPPROTO_TCP TCP_NODELAY); setsockopt( $tcp_socket, IPPROTO_TCP, TCP_NODELAY, 1); use constant GROUP => '239.2.0.81'; use constant PORT => '6550'; my $udp_socket= IO::Socket::Multicast->new(Proto=>'udp',LocalPort=>PORT); $udp_socket->mcast_add(GROUP) || die "Couldn't set group: $!\n"; my $read_select = IO::Select->new(); my $write_select = IO::Select->new(); $read_select->add($tcp_socket); $read_select->add($udp_socket); ## Loop forever, reading data from the UDP socket and writing it to the ## TCP socket(s). while (1) { ## No timeout specified (see docs for IO::Select). This will block until a TCP ## client connects or we have data. my @read = $read_select->can_read(); foreach my $read (@read) { if ($read == $tcp_socket) { ## Handle connect from TCP client. Note that UDP connections are ## stateless (no accept necessary)... my $new_tcp = $read->accept(); $write_select->add($new_tcp); } elsif ($read == $udp_socket) { ## Handle data received from UDP socket... my $recv_buffer; $udp_socket->recv($recv_buffer, 1024, undef); ## Write the data read from UDP out to the TCP client(s). Again, no ## timeout. This will block until a TCP socket is writable. my @write = $write_select->can_write(); foreach my $write (@write) { ## Make sure the socket is still connected before writing. if ($write->connected()) { $write->send($recv_buffer); } else { $write_select->remove($write); close $write; } } } } }
