• Programmatically check whether a linux kernel module exists or not at runtime

  I am writing a C daemon, which depends on the existence of two kernel modules in order to do its job. The program does not directly use these (or any other) modules. It only needs them to exist. Therefore, I would like to programmatically check whether these modules are already loaded or not, in order to warn the user at runtime. Before I start to do things like parsing /proc/modules or lsmod output, does a utility function already exist somewhere? Something like is_module_loaded(const char* name); I am pretty sure this has been asked before. However, I think I am missing the correct terms to search for this. Thanks!

• check if a process is running in python

  I am trying to find if the process is running based on process id. The code is as follows based on one of the post on the forum. • Do you think that in the future it'll be possible to develop games on OS X by using Python and the latest library "Sprite kit" made by Apple? [on hold]

  I don't understand a lot about game engines and modules for Python, even though I'm aware of the existance of PyGame and Pyglets, so please don't bash me too hard if I'll wrote something wrong in this question :-) When I upgraded my Mac to the latest version of OS X, I noticed for the first time that Apple is providing a library named Sprite kit for developing games on both iOS and OS X. It looks to me fairly complete, and the fact is managed by a big company gives me the impression of being well-supported for the time being; in summary, it looks... cool. Actually in order to take advantage of "Sprite kit" you need to code in Obj-C. Since I don't know Obj-C but only a little bit of Python, do you think that there's a chance that sooner or later someone will make a wrapper for Python ? Thank you very much and best regards

• MAMP + Python MySQLDB - trouble installing

  I'm currently running the latest version of MAMP on my Snow Leopard OSX, and I'm trying to install MySQLDB.   Hi all I'm currently learning Python. I want to know what should I learn next out of these programming langauages: PHP Actionscript 3 Objective-C (iPhone applications) I work in the Multimedia industry and have decided to learn Python as a first programming language seriously because I would like to learn the basics of programming, to mainly write scripts at work that Automate task (eg. Edit multiple XML files quickly) At work we have a senior developer who knows Actionscript and PHP very well (although knows PHP better). We also have been developing iPhone applications for 2 weeks, Our senior developer could learn it although we have lots of work currently with PHP and Actionscript 3 type work and haven't had time or reason to pick up iOS development. Here are the reasons I want to learn each language, But I cannot decide what I'll learn next: PHP: I want to learn PHP because it will help with Web Development. PHP is very wanted by employers. Senior developer at work writes everything in it web sites, CMS etc. (including XML checks and scripts), I will learn a lot from him (once I learn the basics). However, I don't want to learn Web because you have to deal with lots of cross-browser problems. Actionscript 3: At work we are looking to put on another developer to help with online activities and very small games (using Actionscript 3.0 and Flash CS5) for (eg. First Aid Activities etc) I would like to do things that have a element of design as I'm better at Photoshop then developing. I want to be creative, I like to interact with users in a fun way. Objective-C (iPhone applications): We are a all mac office, we may get more iPhone, iPad application work(jobs) that need to be created. Work has found it nearly impossible to find good iPhone developers. I like apple products (Macs and iPhones), I would like to make my own games, applications in my spare time(if I knew how). • Incorporating libs into module pattern

  I have recently started using require.js (along with Backbone.js, jQuery, and a handful of other JavaScript libs) and I love the module pattern (here's a nice synopsis if you're unfamiliar: http://www.adequatelygood.com/2010/3/JavaScript-Module-Pattern-In-Depth). Something I'm running up against is best practices on incorporating libs that don't (out of the box) support the module pattern. For example, jQuery without modification is going to load into a global jQuery variable and that's that. Require.js recognizes this and provides an example project for download with a (slightly) modified version of jQuery to incorporate with a require.js project. This goes against everything I've ever learned about using external libs - never modify the source. I can list a ton of reasons. Regardless, this is not an approach I'm comfortable with. I have been using a mixed approach - wherein I build/load the "traditional" JS libraries in a "traditional" way (available in the global namespace) and then using the module pattern for all of my application code. This seems okay to me, but it bugs me because one of the real beauties of the module pattern (no globals) is getting perverted. Anyone else got a better solution to this problem?

• Will learning wxpython worth it in future? [on hold]

  As we know that microsoft has been pushing Windows 8.1 which strongly uses XAML to design the app and for windows desktop mode WPF is another framework (which probably some thinks it fails) However, in old times, developer write windows form software using MFC or something alike that they have to do their own main loop, etc, etc, and I recently loves python and learning python certainly worth it, since there are still ironpython out there that uses .NET, but I am not sure whether my move to also learn wxpython for building windows software that does not requires .NET worth it also i notice wxpython is somehow old and still uses python 2.7, while today, python already version 3.3, beside that the books are old book published in 2007, and there seems no much hype on building windows form without .NET anymore because .NET is mostly preinstalled in new windows version. So my humble question is, whether should I learn python + wxpython or only python? Is there any benefit that I might not notice for capable in writing windows application that does not use .NET?

• Python cannot go over internet network

  I am currently trying to work with python networking and I have reached a bit of a road block. I am not able to network with any computer but localhost, which is kind-of useless with what networking is concerned. I have tried on my local network, from one computer to another, and I have tried over the internet, both fail. The only time I can make it work is if (when running on the server's computer) it's ip is set as 'localhost' or '192.168.2.129' (computers ip). I have spent hours going over opening ports with my isp and have gotten nowhere, so I decided to try this forum. I have my windows firewall down and I have included some pictures of important screen shots. I have no idea what the problem is and this has spanned almost a year of calls to my isp. The computer, modem, and router have all been replaced in that time.
