• If i make a mail server can i send bulk email?

  I work for a small company and we have fallen into the fad of "email campains" a.k.a Junk mail. So far the company has gotten a subscriber list from our website, and paid a good chunk of change for a emailer program. The problem is, Our list has close to 4,000 people on it and growing. with gmail only allowing 100 emails per account through on SMTP and I am on a tight budget so I cant hire anyone else. I was thinking of doing a dedicated mail server off of the website server we have running in the office. Is it possible? to make emails on your own server, and then send it through your own SMTP? if it is, what software would I need and is if free or low cost at least. We run a WAMP server, i set it up just for information, but i could switch it to lamp or whatever if need be. Thank you for your time and youre answers

• Why does my VertexDeclaration apparently not contain Position0?

  I'm trying to get my code from calling each individual draw call down to using at least a VertexBuffer, and preferably an indexBuffer, but now that I'm attempting to test my code, I'm getting the error: The current vertex declaration does not include all the elements required by the current vertex shader. Position0 is missing. Which makes absolutely no sense to me, as my VertexDeclaration is: public readonly static VertexDeclaration VertexDeclaration = new VertexDeclaration( new VertexElement(0, VertexElementFormat.Vector3, VertexElementUsage.Position, 0), new VertexElement(sizeof(float) * 3, VertexElementFormat.Color, VertexElementUsage.Color, 0), new VertexElement(sizeof(float) * 3 + 4, VertexElementFormat.Vector3, VertexElementUsage.Normal, 0) ); Which clearly contains the information. • Is it possible to get xRandR to see two separate outputs with the nvidia driver?

  I have two monitors, which I have set up with nvidia-settings in Twinview. The result: When I want to do something in xRandR, it does not function. It doesn't report one output per video card head, but a single output mapped to the combined area of both monitors: rumtscho@bradbury:~$ xrandr xrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default Screen 0: minimum 3840 x 1440, current 3840 x 1440, maximum 3840 x 1440 default connected 3840x1440+0+0 0mm x 0mm 3840x1440 50.0* Now I promised somebody to help test a driver. The developer is using an open source driver for Intel video cards, and his driver assumes that there is more than one xRandR output, each mapped to a monitor. So I tried rewriting my xorg.conf to somehow get two outputs to show up, but failed. Googling showed that people faced with the xRandR-nvidia problem either stopped using xRandR and achieved what they needed with nvidia-settings, or changed their driver to nouveau. The first is not going to help in my situation, and I am not willing to give up the proprietary driver, because Compiz won't work without it. So does anybody know a way to get nvidia to actually pass on information on outputs to xRandR?

• Is it secure to store the cert/key on a private AMI?

  Are there any major security implications to bundling a private AMI which contains the private key/certificate & environment variables? For resiliency I'm creating an EC2 image which should be able to boot and configure itself without any intervention. After boot it will attempt to: Attach & mount specific EBS volume(s) Associate a specific Elastic IP Start issuing backups of the EBS volume(s) to S3 However, to do this it will need the private key/pem files and will need certain environment variables to be available on start-up. Since this is a private AMI I'm wondering if it will be "safe" to store these variables/files directly in the image so that I don't need to specify any user-data information and can therefore start a new instance remotely (from my iPhone, if needed) should the instance be terminated for any reason.

• Accessing second hard drive

  So I recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit on my computer. I installed it on my 60gb SSD hard drive, and in the installation it never acknowledged the existence of my second hard drive. The hard drive that I keep all my files on, and which I want to make my home folder if I can, is a Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB cache (WD1002FAEX). I've read the following: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Mount but honestly cannot work out how to access the hard drive from my Ubuntu installation. I did have Windows 7 64-bit prior to installing Ubuntu. I have backed up all the files on the hard drive, but if I could just access them straight off that would be super cool. Does anyone know how I can use the second hard drive? Looks like I'll have to unplug and re-plug hardware if I want it working still :(

• Creating a SQL Azure Database Should be Easier

  Every time I try to create a database + tables + data for Windows Azure SQL I get errors.  One of them is 'Filegroup reference and partitioning scheme' is not supported in this version of SQL Server.' It’s partly due to my poor memory (since I’ve succeeded before) and partly due to the failure of tools that should be helping me. For example, when I want to create a script from an existing database on my local workstation, I use SQL Server Management Studio (currently v 11.0.2100.60).  I go to Tasks > Generate Scripts which brings up the nice Generate and Publish Scripts wizard. When I go into the Advanced button, under Script for Server Version, why don’t I see SQL Azure as an option by now? The tool should be sorting this out for me, right? Maybe this is available in SQL Server Data Tools? I haven’t got into that yet. Just merge the functionality with SSMS, please. Anyway, I pick an older version of SQL for the target and still need to tweak it for Azure. For example, I take out all the “[dbo].” stuff. Why is it put there by the wizard? I also have to get rid of "ON [PRIMARY]"  to deal with the error I noted at the top. Yes, there’s information on what a table needs to look like in SQL Azure but the tools should know this so I don’t have to mess with it.

  I'm googling for a while about how can I install Gentoo on Virtual Box. The hand book provides less information about installing it on virtual box rather on a real partition. I thought there will be a GUI tool to install Gentoo. [Now I think there is not :(] Whenever I'm booting into gentoo Im going into a LiveDVD environment where fdisk returning "command not found !" (Not sure this is a bug or Im using a wronng command) Now Im not a very exprienced user but do like to learn and play with Gentoo. Any help link will be appriciated. Downloaded File: livedvd-x86-amd64-32ul-2012.iso (Do I need to use Gentoo 64 as OS version in Virtual Box ?)

• Strange Exchange 2010 Mailbox issues

  A little bit of information on my environment. I have 2 Exchange 2010 mailbox servers setup in a DAG, connected to a VNX SAN via fiber for the mailbox database disks. One of the servers seems to be working fine as it isn't throwing any similar errors but the other has been receiving strange errors in Event Viewer. I haven't been able to find a pattern to when these happen and I'm not really sure what I should be looking at to troubleshoot this. At this point I am wondering if the issue resides on the SAN or if this is because of an improper shutdown or something else on the Exchange side of things? • Translate MSOffice menus from Chinese to English

  Hi! I'm stuck in China using a Chinese language MSOffice package (Home and Student). All of the menus and system instructions are in Chinese. I know there's a pack I can buy but that's not an option for this computer and this temporary situation. Is there another way to convert from Chinese to English? OR is there a site that provides some type of tree of all the menu and system information in English. At least that might help. I've done individual searches for a couple of items but that is incredibly time consuming in order to make a simple operational change. Thanks for any help.

• Web Services and code lists

  Our team heavily discuss the issues how to handle code list in a web service definition. The design goal is to describe a provider API to query a system using various values. Some of them are catalogs resp. code lists. A catalog or code list is a set of key value pairs. There are different systems (at least 3) maintaining possibly different code lists. Each system should implement the provider API, whereas each system might have different code list for the same business entity eg. think of colors. One system know [(1,'red'),(2,'green')] and another one knows [(1,'lightgreen'),(2,'darkgreen'),(3,'red')] etc. The access to the different provider API implementations will be encapsulated by a query service, but there is already one candidate which might use at least one provider API directly. The current options to design the API discussed are: use an abstract code list in the interface definition: the web service interface defines a well known set of code list which are expected to be used for querying and returning data. Each API provider implementation has to mapped the request and response values from those abstract codelist to the system specific one. let the query component handle the code list: the encapsulating query service knows the code list set of each provider API implementation and takes care of mapping the input and output to the system specific code lists of the queried system. do not use code lists in the query definition at all: Just query code lists by a plain string and let the provider API implementation figure out the right value. This might lead to a loose of information and possibly many false positives, due to the fact that the input string could not be canonical mapped to a code list value (eg. green - lightgreen or green - darkgreen or both) What are your experiences resp. solutions to such a problem? Could you give any recommendation?

• What is causing my internet to be slow on one laptop but not the other and only at a distance?

  I have a newer laptop, purchased within the last year (acer aspire 7740). This laptop does not have any problem connecting to wireless networks and indicates that the signal strength is excellent on most of the wireless networks I connect to. When the laptop is within 10 feet of my wireless router it gets 30 down 10 up. When it is farther away than 10 feet it will be lucky to get 3 down and 1 up. I also have an older laptop, purchased in 2005, that has no problems at all at the same range. None of my phones, gaming consoles or tablets have this problem. I am beginning to think that the problem must be some hardware defect with the wireless card. I can provide additional information if needed. Just thought I'd check to see what others thought because I've been working on computers my whole life and have never heard of this happening. I have also tried to change the channels on my wireless router and have had no success with this idea.

• Is there a way to obtain a Dell server's RAID configuration/level using only winrm/wsman? (ESXi servers)

  I've seen videos describing how to configure RAID using wsman/winrm commands run against a server's iDRAC, but I can't seem to find anything that will just give me the current configuration and RAID levels. Is this possible? What uri would I use? If it matters, this is being run against M610s. Edit: If there is an easier way to obtain this information by running a script against the iDRAC, I'm not opposed to switching my methods. EDIT: The server is running ESXi, so if there is a way to obtain this through the vSphere client or PowerCLI, I can do that too. Overall, I just need a way to obtain the RAID configuration for multiple servers without having to query against the actual server (eg: via the iDRAC).

• Tool/Program/Script/Formula for deciphering Active Directory Connection Strings for 3rd party user i

  We're using WSFTP, which has an Active Directory Integration module. To populate the user accounts you need to provide a connection string akin to: OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com CN=Domain Users,OU=Users,DC=domain,DC=com Questions: Is there a Tool/Program/Script/Formula that allows me to decipher how these strings might look based on what I can see in Active Directory Users & Computers? Is there a proper/accepted name for these types of connection strings? I don't even know what to Google to get more information about how to format one properly How would I troubleshoot the connection string if I think it looks correctly formatted, but it isn't working?   I have a website through which I am going to sell few products. It is hosted on a simple shared-hosting and does not have SSL. On the products page, each product has a Buy Now button created from my PayPal Merchant account. PayPal recommends to use it's Button Factory to create secure buttons and save it inside PayPal itself. I have followed the same advice and the code of any button is secure and does not disclose any information on either a product or it's price. When the user clicks on a Buy Now button, he/she is taken to PayPal site where a page is opened in SSL for the user to fill in the credit card and shipping details. After a successful transaction, the control is passed back to my site. I want to know whether there is still any chance when security could be compromised.

• Outlook 2010 sharing calendars and updating

  We recently purchased Outlook 2010 for our law firm. We have several secretaries that need to view all calendars and input information in each of them. We do not have Exchange. I did a test by creating a calendar on one computer and sharing it with another computer. On the second computer I created a calendar and shared it with the first computer. Everything seems to work, except when I put events on computer 1 calendar and look at computer 1 calendar on computer 2. I can not see anything. Any advice would help. Thanks

• Windows Firewall rule based on domain name instead of IP

  I'm trying to allow a service to a set of machines via Windows Firewall. I'd like to add my home machine to the firewall but my home machine has a dynamic ip address. I use dyndns so that I have a hostname which I can always connect to. So I'm trying to see if there is a way I can use my hostname instead of an IP. Thanks Update Let me add a little more information, perhaps there are other ways to resolve my issue. The server is a web server hosted by RackSpace. I only want to allow RDP access from my work (static IP, so no problem) and home (dynamic). My home IP doesn't change too often, just often enough to annoy me. So maybe there is a better way to do this... maybe VPN?

• Implementing new required feature after software release

  Fake Scenario There is a software that was released 1 year ago. The software is to map and register all kind of animals on our planet. When the software was released, the client only needed to know the scientific name of the animal, a flag if it is in risk of extinction and a scale of dangerous(that is a fake software and specification, I don't want to discuss this here). There are already 100.000 animals records saved on DB. New Feature One year later, the client wants a new feature. It is really important to him to know the animals classes, and this is a required field. So he asks me to put a field to input the animal class, and this field is required. Or maybe where this animal was discovered. Problem I have already 100.000 recorded animals without a class or where it was discovered, but I need to insert a new column to storage this information and this column can't be null. I don't have a default value for this situation (there isn't a default animal class or where it was discovered). I don't want to keep the requirement rule only on my software, my DB must have this requirement too(I like to keep business rules on DB too). What are the alternatives to solve this situation? I am on a situation that this new feature cannot be previewed or reviewed for the existing records. The time already passed and I can't go back on time to get it

• Creating new games on Android and/or iPhone

  I have a succesfull facebook poker game that is running very nicely, now some people have asked if I can port this to other platforms - mainly mobile devices (and I have been asked to make a tablet version, do I really need a seperate version?) I am currently a PHP programmer (and game designer) and I simply dont' have the time to learn Android and other languages - so I have decided to pay third parties to program them (if viable). The information I need to know is what programming language is needed for the following four devices - Android mobile phone, iPhone, iPad and tablets? Can they all run off a central sql database? If they can't then i'm not interested :( Do any of these run FLASH? Have I covered all my main bases here? For example if a person programs for a ANDROID mobile phone is that to much differant to an ANDROID tablet? They will have slightly differant graphics (because the tablet has a greater screen area might as well use it) but do they need to be started from scratch? Same goes for iPhone/iPad, do they really need to be programmed differantly if the only differance is the graphics?

• Oracle OpenWorld Highlights

  We are in the final days of Oracle OpenWorld 2012 and the data integration team have been hard at work giving sessions, meeting customers, demonstrating product and conducting hands-on labs.    It has been a great conference, but the best part is meeting our customers and learning about all the great implementations of our products.  Wednesday was the last day that the exhibition hall was open and attendees were getting in their final opportunities to see our products and meet with the product management team.   Two hours before the close of the hall, people lined up to learn about GoldenGate 11gR2, Monitor, Adapters, Veridata, and all the different use cases.    Here's a picture of Sjaak Vossepoel, who is our DIS Sales Consulting Manager for EMEA speaking to a potential customer on the options of using Oracle GoldenGate for heterogenous data replication.  Over the last two days, the GoldenGate team ran two labs; Introduction to Oracle GoldenGate Veridata and Deep Dive into Oracle GoldenGate.   Both of the labs were completely booked out and unfortunately we had to turn away people.   BUT,  all of our labs were recorded recently so if you were not able to get into the lab or did not have enough time to complete your labs, visit youtube.com/oraclegoldengate to see a  complete recording of the labs we used at OpenWorld plus more.  Here are a couple pictures from the Deep Dive into Oracle GoldenGate lead by Chis Lawless from the Product Management team.   Thanks to the GoldenGate Hands-on Lab team for putting on a great session!!! • Is there anyway I can secure my connection when I try to log in to my router remotely?

  I'm trying to configure my desktop to be accessed remotely. Here's what I've done so far: enabled wake on lan / remote wake up on all interfaces. I'm using logmein as my remote desktop application. setup DDNS so that I can log in to my router. When I try to remotely log in to my router it says that it is not encrypted there anyone can see my log in information. What can I do to make this a more secure setup? Any other suggestions or different methods will be greatly appreciated.

  This is the situation: I've been browsing the web for an hour in pursuit of some bit of technical information and have visited several dozen websites that I don't even remember anymore. I've finally found what I need so I start closing the web browser, only to discover that — aaargh! — there's a popup ad hiding underneath! My blood boils. What insidious website is responsible for this circumvention of my browser's popup blocker? I want to make it pay for its crime. I'll write angry emails. Leave bad reviews. Even block it from my Google search results — yes, that'll show it! But I've reached an impediment. The offending site has already been closed. Is it too late to deduce the advertisement's origin?
