  • Access Your favorite RSS Feeds in Windows Media Center

    There are a lot of apps out there that help you organize and view your favorite RSS feeds. If you subscribe to a lot, sitting at a computer to view them all can be overwhelming. Today we take a look at accessing them from the couch with WMC. Using Media Center RSS Feeds To get RSS feeds to work with this plugin you need to subscribe to them through Internet Explorer.   The first thing you’ll need to do is activate Media Center RSS Reader (link below) on their site. Next install the Media Center RSS Reader plugin (link below). Installation is easy, just select the defaults when going through the wizard. Now when you open Media Center you’ll see the RSS icon in the main menu under Accessories. You can also find it in the Extras section. Enter in the username and activation code you received when you activated the plugin earlier. After activation you’ll see a list of the RSS feeds you currently subscribed through Internet Explorer. Click on the site feed you want to read and you’ll get a list of the different items available. Next you get and overview of the contents for the item you selected. From there you can show the page of the website containing that item. For any audio or video feeds you subscribe to, at the overview screen, click on Play to watch it. Then just sit back and watch your favorite video RSS feeds on WMC.   Media Center RSS Reader plugin will work with Vista and Windows 7. If you’re looking for a way to check out your RSS feeds in WMC this is a cool plugin for it. Download Media Center RSS Reader –You can activate it here as well.   • Friday Fun: Factory Balls – Christmas Edition

    Your weekend is almost here, but until the work day is over we have another fun holiday game for you. This week your job is to correctly decorate/paint the ornaments that go on the Christmas tree. Simple you say? Maybe, but maybe not! Factory Balls – Christmas Edition The object of the game is to correctly decorate/paint each Christmas ornament exactly as shown in the “sample image” provided for each level. What starts off as simple will quickly have you working to figure out the correct combination or sequence to complete each ornament. Are you ready? The first level serves as a tutorial to help you become comfortable with how to decorate/paint the ornaments. To move an ornament to a paint bucket or cover part of it with one of the helper items simply drag the ornament towards that area. The ornament will automatically move back to its’ starting position when the action is complete. First, a nice coat of red paint followed by covering the middle area with a horizontal belt. Once the belt is on move the ornament to the bucket of yellow paint. Next, you will need to remove the belt, so move the ornament back to the belt’s original position. One ornament finished! As soon as you complete decorating/painting an ornament, you move on to the next level and will be shown the next “sample Image” in the upper right corner. Starting with a coat of orange paint sounds good… Pop the little serrated edge cap on top… Add some blue paint… Almost have it… Place the large serrated edge cap on top… Another dip in the orange paint… And the second ornament is finished. Level three looks a little bit tougher…just work out your pattern of helper items & colors and you will definitely get it! Have fun decorating/painting those ornaments! Note: Starting with level four you will need to start using a combination of two helper items combined at times to properly complete the ornaments.   • Up in the Air: Team Oracle Play-by-Play

    Yesterday, I had the amazing opportunity to fly along with Sean D. Tucker and Team Oracle. Leaving from the San Carols airport, we did a 30 minute flight over the Pacific just south of the coastal town of Half Moon Bay. In that half hour, I rode through a massive 4G loop, survived a crushing hammerhead, and took control of the plane to perform a basic wing over (you can learn what the heck I'm talking about by visiting this website). I have lots of great video, but it's going to take me some time to make sense of it. For now, here's my Twitter-based play-by-play of yesterday's events. Many thanks to Sean D.   • Add Transitions to Slideshows in PowerPoint 2010

    Sitting through PowerPoint presentation can sometimes get a little boring. You can make your slideshows more interesting by adding transitions between the slides in your presentations. Transitions certainly aren’t new to PowerPoint, but Office 2010 adds a number of exciting new transitions and options. Add Transitions Select the slide to which you want to apply a transition. On the Transitions tab, select the More button to reveal the all transition options in the gallery.   Select the transition you’d like to apply to your slide. The transitions are divided into three types…Subtle, Exciting, and Dynamic Content. You can hover your mouse over each item in the gallery to preview the transition with Live Preview. You can adjust many of the transitions using Effect Options. The options will vary depending on which transition you’ve selected.   You can add additional customizations in the Timing Group. You can add sound by selecting one of the options in the Sound dropdown list…   You can change the duration of the transition… Or choose to advance the slide On Mouse Click (default) or automatically after a certain period of time.   If you’d like to apply one transition to every slide in your presentation, select the Apply To All button. You can preview your transition by clicking the Preview button on the Transitions tab. A few clicks is all it takes to add a little energy and excitement to an otherwise dry presentation.   Are you looking for more ways to spice up your PowerPoint 2010 slideshows?     If you’re looking for a way to personalize IE 8, one method is to customize the Title Bar. Here we look at a simple Registry hack that will get the job done. The Internet Explorer Title Bar is displayed on the top of the browser with the site name followed by Windows Internet Explorer by default. If you have a small office you might want to change it to the company name, or just change it something more personal at home.   Customize the IE 8 Title Bar Note: Before making any changes to the Registry, make sure to back it up. The first thing we need to do is open the Registry by typing regedit into the Search box in the Start Menu and hit Enter. With the Registry open, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main. Then create a new String Value and name it Window Title. Right-click on the Window Title String and enter in whatever you want to display on the Title Bar in the Value data field and click OK. When you’re done, you should see the new String called Windows Title with whatever you entered in as the value. Close out of the Registry. Restart or launch Internet Explorer and you’ll now see your new text in the Title Bar. If you want to change it to something else, just go in and modify the Value data. If you want to switch it back to the default, just go back in and delete the string we created. A lot of times you’ll see corporate branding already in the title bar from your ISP or some computer company. To get rid of it, check out The Geek’s article on how to remove it. This should work with other versions of Internet Explorer as well.
