• Create and Share a File (Also a mysterious error)

  My goal is to create a XML file and then send it through the share Intent. I'm able to create a XML file using this code FileOutputStream outputStream = context.openFileOutput(fileName, Context.MODE_WORLD_READABLE); PrintStream printStream = new PrintStream(outputStream); String xml = this.writeXml(); // get XML here printStream.println(xml); printStream.close(); I'm stuck trying to retrieve a Uri to the output file in order to share it. I first tried to access the file by converting the file to a Uri File outFile = context.getFileStreamPath(fileName); return Uri.fromFile(outFile); This returns file:///data/data/com.my.package/files/myfile.xml but I cannot appear to attach this to an email, upload, etc. If I manually check the file length, it's proper and shows there is a reasonable file size. Next I created a content provider and tried to reference the file and it isn't a valid handle to the file. The ContentProvider doesn't ever seem to be called a any point. Uri uri = Uri.parse("content://" + CachedFileProvider.AUTHORITY + "/" + fileName); return uri; This returns content://com.my.package.provider/myfile.xml but I check the file and it's zero length. How do I access files properly? Do I need to create the file with the content provider? If so, how? Update Here is the code I'm using to share. Are you missing a call to unregisterReceiver()? I've researched this error and can't find anything obvious. Both of these links suggest that I need to unregister a receiver. I have a receiver setup, but it's for an AlarmManager that is set elsewhere and doesn't require the app to register / unregister. Code for openFile(...)   By secure, I don't mean the machines itself and access to it from the network. I mean, and I suppose this could be applied to any kind of hosting service, when you put all your intellectual property onto a hosted provider, what happens to the hard disks as they cycle through them? Say I've invested million into my software, and the information and data that I have is valuable, how can I be sure it isn't read off old disks as they're recycled? Is there some kind of standard to look for that ensures a provider is going to use the strictest form of intellectual property protection? Is SAS70 applicable here?

• SQL server could not connect: Lacked Sufficient Buffer Space...

  I recently moved my app to a new server - the app is written in c# against the 3.5 framework. The hardware is faster but the OS is the same (Win Server 2003). No new software is running. On the prior hardware the app would run for months with no problems. Now, in this new install, I get the following error after about 3 days, and the only way to fix it is to reboot: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An operation on a socket could not be performed because the system lacked sufficient buffer space or because a queue was full.) I have yet to find a service I can even shut down to make it work. Anyone had this before and know a solution?

• Error connecting to the application.

  Hi guys, let me explain you the current scenario. We have a asp.net application on framework 2 running on intranet(Windows 2003 Server and Sql Server 2000). Now we have a xp machine where we installed and configured IIS with a virtual directory pointing on the local Xp machine and this machine is connected to our intranet. We have copied the same application files of the server to this XP machine. But the thing is the connection string/database of the application is pointing towards the intranet server. The problem is when we try to run the application on the XP machine we get this error : An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Is this query related or concerned with this site or stackoverflow ?

I developed an app using C# and SQL Server Express 2012 with a local database, my connection string is"Data Source=localhost ; Initial Catalog = scalnet ; Integrated Security=SSPI; Trusted_Connection=Yes"; Everything worked ok till the time I made a setup and tried to install my app in another computer. My first question is: - What version of SQL should I install is this machine? it should be as ligth as possible. - I tried to install SQL exprees 2012 but it gives me an error when I execute my app "A network related or instance specific error occurred while establishing a ..... • How to Check the Performance of VPS?

  I have subscribed to a VPS offered by a hosting provider. The guaranteed performance 1GB RAM, 1M bandwidth. But I found that from time to time the websites can be very slow, so slow that it could take more than 30 seconds to load a simple Joomla website. However the website resumed the usual speed after a few minutes. This created a problem for me when I want to report the performance problem to the hosting provider. They would say to me "see, no problem". Of course there is no problem because the problem is only there for a few minutes , and everything is normal. This ocassionally-slow problem will bug me a few days later and the cycle repeats. Any idea how to solve this problem?

  I have a site at say: foo.com and I would like the subdomain blog.foo.com to point to fooblog.com blog.foo.com - fooblog.com However, our DNS provider says that if we do an alias such as that, since the provider at fooblog.com does not recognize the name blog.foo.com. We asked if we could just point blog.foo.com at the IP address of fooblog.com and they say the same problem will occur. Any advice? Due to our configuration we can't really put the blog on foo.com. We are willing to move our hosting and even our domain name hosting if necessary. -- Yes, I am a n00b when it comes to DNS.

  Question As a general practice, is it a good idea to use multiple TLDs for the name servers? How should I choose between which TLD would be a good candidate for being the root server for my NS name? More Info I am switching over 800 DNS zones to an outsourced DNS provider. I originally planned on setting the zone names to nsX.company.com, but think it would be best to have multiple TLDs such as .net , .org and .info Since I plan on supporting DNSSec at company.com I think all the 1st tier Name servers must support it as well. Part of the inspiration for this question came from our provider UltraDNS. • Backup/Multihomed network connection

  We have a couple locations that require 24/7 access to Internet and our current provider (AT&T) while mostly good is not always up. My concern would be if I go with another provider (for example Comcast) I'm going to be subject to the same down time if it's in the "last mile". I for the most part don't know where the failure points are on the ISP side but I would imagine the large majority are within the last mile. I'd looked at Mifi or similar solution but have concerns about bandwidth caps and overall speed. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  I am using a SIP provider that has provided me with a username like: [email protected] (Note this is only the username part) And has a numerical password. My Register string looks something like this: [email protected]:[email protected] But this is not working, as asterisk is only sending the first part +112223344 before the first @. My provider is adamant about having the full form of it. This is the first time I am facing this issue that is quite unusual for me. Please help.

[duplicate] 5 answers How can I know if my provider is giving me a dedicated physical server or if I'm getting virtual servers? The provider is from an other country so I don't have the chance to go and see the servers by myself, all of them have linux and they're managed by SSH. All the hire has been done by internet or phone. Are there any commands, dirs to analyze or a way to get this info? They of course tell me that the servers are physical, but when they make some support or hardware/software upgrade or that kind of stuff doesn't take a long. For example, when I ask for a new one with specific requirements at the end they give me more infrastructure than the one I asked for. Of course no one gives extra things without an extra price. We hear from BGR India blog that iPhone 4S price is going start at Rs. 40,000 for a 16GB model and may go up to Rs. 50,000 for a 64 GB model. Airtel, another leading mobile service provider in India, who sells iPhone in India is not sure when they are going to start offering iPhone 4S to its customer. I reached customer care regarding the iPhone 4S and they don’t have any details to offer at the moment. It’s good to see Apple releasing iPhone 4S to India markets just after couple of months of International release.   I'd like to have a unity desktop accessible via VNC on a precise server machine I have running. I installed the ubuntu-desktop package. I'm launching a VNC session with the following in my ~/.vnc/xstartup file: !/bin/sh xrdb $HOME/.Xresources xsetroot -solid grey export XKL_XMODMAP_DISABLE=1 gnome-session --session=ubuntu-2d What could the issue be here? Through the combined support of payment service provider, easycash GmbH, and Ingenico GmbH, Germany´s leading payment terminal provider, myToys.de has become the first organisation to create this new automated solution for the Oracle Retail Point-of-Service, which has eliminated input errors that could occur with manual payment terminals and is localised for the German market. • Configure SQL Server to Allow Remote Connections

  Okay. This post isn’t about configuring SQL to allow remote connections, but wait, I still may be able to help you out. "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" I love this exception. It summarized the issue and leads you down a path to solving the problem.  I do wish the bit about allowing remote connections was left out of the message though. I can’t think of a time when having remote connections disabled caused me grief.  Heck, I can’t ever remember how to enable remote connections unless I Google for the answer. Anyway, 9 out of 10 times, SQL Server simply isn’t running.  That’s why the exception occurs.  The next time this exception pops up, open up the services console and make sure SQL Server is started.  And if that’s not the problem, only then start digging into the other possible reasons for the failure.

• Database Connectivity Test with UDL File

  I bounced around between projects a lot last week.  What each project had in common was the need to validate at least one SQL connection.  Whether you have SQL tools like SSMS installed or not, this is a very easy task if you are aware of the UDL (Universal Data Link) files.  Create a new file and name it anything as long as it has the .udl extension. Open the file, choose a provider: Click Next >> or navigate to the Connection Tab to provide connection information.  Once you provide server and login credentials, the database list will populate.  At this point, you know the connection is valid. but go ahead and click the Test Connection button anyway. On the final tab, you can provide extra connection information like Application Name which can come in handy.  The All tab is beneficial if you want to build a valid connection string to include in your own applications.  If you save the file and then open in Notepad, you’ll find that said connection string: Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Integrated Security=SSPI;Persist Security Info=False;Initial Catalog=master;Data Source=(local);Application Name=TestApp I hope this tip helps save you some time.  How do you test if you don’t have SSMS installed?
