  • Best way to manipulate and compare strings

    - by vtortola
    I'm developing a REST service, so a request could be something like this: /Data/Main/Table=Customers/ I need to get the segments one by one, and for each segment I will decide wich object I'm going to use, after I'll pass to that object the rest of the query so it can decide what to do next. Basically, the REST query is a path on a tree :P This imply lots String operations (depending on the query complexity), but StringBuilder is useful just for concatenations and remove, you cannot perform a search with IndexOf or similar. I've developed this class that fulfill my requirement, but the problem is that is manipulating Strings, so every time I get one segment ... I'll create extra Strings because String is an inmutable data type: public class RESTQueryParser { String _query; public RESTQueryParser(String query) { _query = query; } public String GetNext() { String result = String.Empty; Int32 startPosition = _query.StartsWith("/", StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) ? 1 : 0; Int32 i = _query.IndexOf("/", startPosition, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase) - 1; if (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(_query)) { if (i < 0) { result = _query.Substring(startPosition, _query.Length - 1); _query = String.Empty; } else { result = _query.Substring(startPosition, i); _query = _query.Remove(0, i + 1); } } return result; } } The server should support a lot of calls, and the queries could be huge, so this is gonna be a very repetitive task. I don't really know how big is the impact on the memory and the performance, I've just readed about it in some books. Should I implement a class that manage a Char[] instead Strings and implement the methods that I want? Or should be ok with this one? Regular expressions maybe?

  • Pros/cons of reading connection string from physical file vs Application object (ASP.NET)?

    - by HaterTot
    my ASP.NET application reads an xml file to determine which environment it's currently in (e.g. local, development, production). It checks this file every single time it opens a connection to the database, in order to know which connection string to grab from the Application Settings. I'm entering a phase of development where efficiency is becoming a concern. I don't think it's a good idea to have to read a file on a physical disk ever single time I wish to access the database (very often). I was considering storing the connection string in Application["ConnectionString"]. So the code would be public static string GetConnectionString { if (Application["ConnectionString"] == null) { XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.Load(HttpContext.Current.Request.PhysicalApplicationPath + "bin/ServerEnvironment.xml"); XmlElement xe = (XmlElement) xnl[0]; switch (xe.InnerText.ToString().ToLower()) { case "local": connString = Settings.Default.ConnectionStringLocal; break; case "development": connString = Settings.Default.ConnectionStringDevelopment; break; case "production": connString = Settings.Default.ConnectionStringProduction; break; default: throw new Exception("no connection string defined"); } Application["ConnectionString"] = connString; } return Application["ConnectionString"].ToString(); } I didn't design the application so I figure there must have been a reason for reading the xml file every time (to change settings while the application runs?) I have very little concept of the inner workings here. What are the pros and cons? Do you think I'd see a small performance gain by implementing the function above? THANKS

  • How to asynchronously read to std::string using Boost::asio?

    - by SpyBot
    Hello. I'm learning Boost::asio and all that async stuff. How can I asynchronously read to variable user_ of type std::string? Boost::asio::buffer(user_) works only with async_write(), but not with async_read(). It works with vector, so what is the reason for it not to work with string? Is there another way to do that besides declaring char user_[max_len] and using Boost::asio::buffer(user_, max_len)? Also, what's the point of inheriting from boost::enable_shared_from_this<Connection> and using shared_from_this() instead of this in async_read() and async_write()? I've seen that a lot in the examples. Here is a part of my code: class Connection { public: Connection(tcp::acceptor &acceptor) : acceptor_(acceptor), socket_(acceptor.get_io_service(), tcp::v4()) { } void start() { acceptor_.get_io_service().post( boost::bind(&Connection::start_accept, this)); } private: void start_accept() { acceptor_.async_accept(socket_, boost::bind(&Connection::handle_accept, this, placeholders::error)); } void handle_accept(const boost::system::error_code& err) { if (err) { disconnect(); } else { async_read(socket_, boost::asio::buffer(user_), boost::bind(&Connection::handle_user_read, this, placeholders::error, placeholders::bytes_transferred)); } } void handle_user_read(const boost::system::error_code& err, std::size_t bytes_transferred) { if ( err or (bytes_transferred != sizeof(user_)) ) { disconnect(); } else { ... } } ... void disconnect() { socket_.shutdown(tcp::socket::shutdown_both); socket_.close(); socket_.open(tcp::v4()); start_accept(); } tcp::acceptor &acceptor_; tcp::socket socket_; std::string user_; std::string pass_; ... };

  • How to check if a position inside a std string exists ?? (c++)

    - by yox
    Hello, i have a long string variable and i want to search in it for specific words and limit text according to thoses words. Say i have the following text : "This amazing new wearable audio solution features a working speaker embedded into the front of the shirt and can play music or sound effects appropriate for any situation. It's just like starring in your own movie" and the words : "solution" , "movie". I want to substract from the big string (like google in results page): "...new wearable audio solution features a working speaker embedded..." and "...just like starring in your own movie" for that i'm using the code : for (std::vector<string>::iterator it = words.begin(); it != words.end(); ++it) { int loc1 = (int)desc.find( *it, 0 ); if( loc1 != string::npos ) { while(desc.at(loc1-i) && i<=80){ i++; from=loc1-i; if(i==80) fromdots=true; } i=0; while(desc.at(loc1+(int)(*it).size()+i) && i<=80){ i++; to=loc1+(int)(*it).size()+i; if(i==80) todots=true; } for(int i=from;i<=to;i++){ if(fromdots) mini+="..."; mini+=desc.at(i); if(todots) mini+="..."; } } but desc.at(loc1-i) causes OutOfRange exception... I don't know how to check if that position exists without causing an exception ! Help please!

  • Export to excel - COMMA issue

    - by 6242Y
    I want to put a string in an excel sheet from my Export to excel function. However my string is as follows: string : Red, red wine Go to my head Make me forget that I Still need and on my excel I get unexpected results , column change after comma and also column change when there is no full stop in front of an UPPER CASE alphabet. The Upper case alphabets (without a full stop before them) are also causing this (Go , Make . Still) How can I solve this issue ? I tried removing the spaces after the comma as var desc = ""; if (o.Description.Contains(',')) { var trimmedSplits = new List<string>(); var splits = o.Description.Split(','); foreach (var stringBits in splits) { desc = desc + stringBits.Trim() + ","; } desc = desc.Remove(desc.Length - 1); } dtRow[(int)ProductRangeExportToExcel.Description] = desc;

  • WMI Remote Process Starting

    - by Goober
    Scenario I've written a WMI Wrapper that seems to be quite sufficient, however whenever I run the code to start a remote process on a server, I see the process name appear in the task manager but the process itself does not start like it should (as in, I don't see the command line log window of the process that prints out what it's doing etc.) The process I am trying to start is just a C# application executable that I have written. Below is my WMI Wrapper Code and the code I am using to start running the process. Question Is the process actually running? - Even if it is only displaying the process name in the task manager and not actually launching the application to the users window? • "tailing" a binary file based on string location using bash?

    I've got a bunch of binary files, each containing an embedded string near the end of the file but at different places (only occurs once in each file). I need to extract the part of the file starting at the location of the string till the end of the file and dump it into a new file. eg. If the file's contents is "AWREDEDEDEXXXERESSDSDS" and the string of interest is "XXX", then the part of the file I need is "XXXERESSDSDS". What's the easiest way to do this in bash?

  • What should I call the operation that limit a string's length?

    - by egarcia
    This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

  • Easiest way of checking if a string consists of unique characters?

    - by serg555
    I need to check in Java if a word consists of unique letters (case insensitive). As straight solution is boring, I came up with: For every char in a string check if indexOf(char) == lastIndexOf(char). Add all chars to HashSet and check if set size == string length. Convert a string to a char array, sort it alphabetically, loop through array elements and check if c[i] == c[i+1]. Currently I like #2 the most, seems like the easiest way. Any other interesting solutions?

  • What's the most efficient way to format the following string?

    - by Ian P
    I have a very simple question, and I shouldn't be hung up on this, but I am. Haha! I have a string that I receive in the following format(s): 123 123456-753 123455-43 234234-4 123415 The desired output, post formatting, is: 123-455-444 123-455-55 123-455-5 or 123-455 The format is ultimately dependent upon the total number of characters in the original string.. I have several ideas of how to do this, but I keep thing there's a better way than string.Replace and concatenate... Thanks for the suggestions.. Ian

    I was fortunate enough to receive this code (flips Lastname, Firstname) from an earlier post. $name = "Lastname, Firstname"; $names = explode(", ", $name); $name = $names[1] . " " . $names[0]; How do I apply the function to each value in an array that is in the form: $ginfo ->$(LastName, FirstName). I tried the code below, but it doesn't work. $name1 =($ginfo->White); $name1 = explode(", ", $name1); $FLw = $name1[1] . " " . $name1[0]; foreach ($name1 as ($ginfo->White)) {return($FLw);}

  • How can I detect if a string contains punctuation marks at the end?

    - by Sheehan Alam
    Lets assume I have the string: "Hello I like your shoes #today...!" I am tokenizing the string by spaces: return [string componentsSeparatedByString:@" "]; So my array contains: Hello I like your shoes #today...! I want to focus on "#today...!" any word that has a # in the prefix I am changing the font color. How can I make sure that only "#today" has its font color changed? I would basically like to figure out if a word has a punctuation mark at the end, and change the color for characters before the punctuation mark.

  • How to find validity of a string of parentheses, curly brackets and square brackets?

    - by Rajendra
    I recently came in contact with this interesting problem. You are given a string containing just the characters '(', ')', '{', '}', '[' and ']', for example, "[{()}]", you need to write a function which will check validity of such an input string, function may be like this: bool isValid(char* s); these brackets have to close in the correct order, for example "()" and "()[]{}" are all valid but "(]", "([)]" and "{{{{" are not! I came out with following O(n) time and O(n) space complexity solution, which works fine: Maintain a stack of characters. Whenever you find opening braces '(', '{' OR '[' push it on the stack. Whenever you find closing braces ')', '}' OR ']' , check if top of stack is corresponding opening bracket, if yes, then pop the stack, else break the loop and return false. Repeat steps 2 - 3 until end of the string. This works, but can we optimize it for space, may be constant extra space, I understand that time complexity cannot be less than O(n) as we have to look at every character. So my question is can we solve this problem in O(1) space?

  • How to iterate into a string for a word after a fixed keyword? [closed]

    - by Parth
    Possible Duplicate: I need to iterate a loop to every time find the string appearing after a particular string say “if(OLD.”, then which PHP function will be helpful for me? This is the string BEGIN IF (NEW.name != OLD.name) THEN INSERT INTO jos_menuaudit set menuid=OLD.id, oldvalue = OLD.name, newvalue = NEW.name, field = "name"; END IF; IF (NEW.alias != OLD.alias) THEN INSERT INTO jos_menuaudit set menuid=OLD.id, oldvalue = OLD.alias, newvalue = NEW.alias, field = "alias"; END IF; END in which I am searching the particular word after " IF (NEW.", and after that particular others strings should not be displayed, hence whenever in a loop it finds " IF (NEW." I must get a word just next to it. And in this way an array should be ready for to use.
