  Algorithm to generate all possible letter combinations of given string down to 2 letters Trying to create an Anagram solver in AS3, such as this one found here: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/adam.bozon/anagramsolver.htm I'm having a problem wrapping my brain around generating all possible letter combinations for the various lengths of strings. If I was only generating permutations for a fixed length, it wouldn't be such a problem for me... but I'm looking to reduce the length of the string and obtain all the possible permutations from the original set of letters for a string with a max length smaller than the original string. For example, say I want a string length of 2, yet I have a 3 letter string of “abc”, the output would be: ab ac ba bc ca cb. Ideally the algorithm would produce a complete list of possible combinations starting with the original string length, down to the smallest string length of 2. I have a feeling there is probably a small recursive algorithm to do this, but can't wrap my brain around it. I'm working in AS3. Thanks!

• jQuery DataTables server side processing and ASP.Net

  I'm trying to use the server side functionality of the jQuery Datatables plugin with ASP.Net. The ajax request is returning valid JSON, but nothing is showing up in the table. I originally had problems with the data I was sending in the ajax request. I was getting a "Invalid JSON primative" error. I discovered that the data needs to be in a string instead of JSON serialized, as described in this post: http://encosia.com/2008/06/05/3-mistakes-to-avoid-when-using-jquery-with-aspnet-ajax/. I wasn't quite sure how to fix that, so I tried adding this in the ajax request: "data": "{'sEcho': '" + aoData.sEcho + "'}" If the aboves eventually works I'll add the other parameters later. Right now I'm just trying to get something to show up in my table. The returning JSON looks ok and validates, but the sEcho in the post is undefined, and I think thats why no data is being loaded into the table. So, what am I doing wrong? Am I even on the right track or am I being stupid? Does anyone ran into this before or have any suggestions? • CakePHP: 2-level JOIN with one Query

  I have the following models in CakePHP: A Deposit belongs to an Account An Account belongs to a Customer I want to have a list of Deposits, and I need to show the name of the customer (so I have to join through the Customer). I also need to paginate this list. If I set Deposit->recursive = 2, I can get the Customer, however, CakePHP runs one query joining Deposit and Account, and then runs one query per each Deposit, to get the Customer. How can I make it get both models with only one query? I tried this, but it didn't work: $this->paginate = array('joins' => array( array( 'table' => 'customers', 'alias' => 'AccountCustomer', 'type' => 'inner', 'foreignKey' => false, 'conditions' => array('Account.customer_id = AccountCustomer.id') ) )); Any ideas? • How to prevent jQuery FancyBox from closing immediately after submit?

  Hi! I'm loading an inline registration form in a FancyBox from jQuery. However after submitting the form, the box immediately closes while there is some feedback that I want to show the user in the FancyBox itself. This feedback is generated on the server side and is printed in the FancyBox. How can I make the box only closing when their is no feedback anymore? I was thinking about using ajax to just refresh the FancyBox itself and not the whole page after refreshing. But I just can't figure out how this ajax $.ajax({type, cache, url, data, success}); works... Also it seems like there's no reaction from the 'submit bind' in the javascript. I hope someone can help me with this problem. I paste my code below. If any questions, plz ask.. Thx in advance! • Need help with setting up comet code

  Does anyone know off a way or maybe think its possible to connect Node.js with Nginx http push module to maintain a persistent connection between client and browser. I am new to comet so just don't understand the publishing etc maybe someone can help me with this. What i have set up so far is the following. I downloaded the jQuery.comet plugin and set up the following basic code: Client JavaScript <script type="text/javascript"> function updateFeed(data) { $('#time').text(data); } function catchAll(data, type) { console.log(data); console.log(type); } $.comet.connect('/broadcast/sub?channel=getIt'); $.comet.bind(updateFeed, 'feed'); $.comet.bind(catchAll); $('#kill-button').click(function() { $.comet.unbind(updateFeed, 'feed'); }); </script> What I can understand from this is that the client will keep on listening to the url followed by /broadcast/sub=getIt. When there is a message it will fire updateFeed. Pretty basic and understandable IMO. Pretty basic also. This part is not so hard to understand, and is well documented over the internet. Most of the time there is a ruby or a php file behind this that does the broadcasting. My idea is to have node.js broadcasting /broadcast/pub. I think this will let me have persistent streaming data from the server to the client without breaking the connection. I tried the long-polling approach with looping the request but I think this will be more efficient. Or is this not going to work. Node.js file Now to create the Node.js i'm lost. First off all I don't know how to have node.js to work in this way. The setup I used for long polling is as follows: var sys = require('sys'), http = require('http'); http.createServer(function (req, res) { res.writeHead(200, {'Content-Type': 'text/html'}); res.write(new Date()); res.close(); seTimeout('',1000); }).listen(8000); This listens to port 8000 and just writes on the response variable.   I'm reviewing some old notes from my algorithms course and the dynamic programming problems are seeming a bit tricky to me. I have a problem where we have an unlimited supply of coins, with some denominations x1, x2, ... xn and we want to make change for some value X. We are trying to design a dynamic program to decide whether change for X can be made or not (not minimizing the number of coins, or returning which coins, just true or false). I've done some thinking about this problem, and I can see a recursive method of doing this where it's something like... MakeChange(X, x[1..n this is the coins]) for (int i = 1; i < n; i++) { if ( (X - x[i] ==0) || MakeChange(X - x[i]) ) return true; } return false; Converting this a dynamic program is not coming so easily to me. How might I approach this?

• ModalPopupExtender and validation problems

  The problem I am facing is that when there is validation on a page and I am trying to display a model pop-up, the pop-up is not getting displayed. And by using fire-bug I have noticed that an error is being thrown. The button that is used to display the pop-up has cause validation set to false so I am stuck as to what is causing the error. • Zoom on multiple areas in d3.js

  I'm planning to have a geoJSON map inside my svg alongside other svg elements. I would like to be able to zoom (zoom+pan) in the map and keep the map in the same location with a bounding box. I can accomplish this by using a clipPath to keep the map within a rectangular area. The problem is that I also want to enable zooming and panning on my entire svg. If I do d3.select("svg").call(myzoom); this overrides any zoom I applied to my map. How can I apply zoom to both my entire svg and to my map? That is, I want to be able to zoom+pan on my map when my mouse is in the map's bounding box, and when the mouse is outside the bounding box, zoom+pan on the entire svg. • UIScrollView zoomToRect not zooming to given rect (created from UITouch CGPoint)

  My application has a UIScrollView with one subview. The subview is an extended UIView which prints a PDF page to itself using layers in the drawLayer event. Zooming using the built in pinching works great. setZoomScale also works as expected. I have been struggling with the zoomToRect function. I found an example online which makes a CGRect zoomRect variable from a given CGPoint. In the touchesEnded function, if there was a double tap and they are all the way zoomed out, I want to zoom in to that PDFUIView I created as though they were pinching out with the center of the pinch where they double tapped. So assume that I pass the UITouch variable to my function which utilizes zoomToRect if they double tap. I started with the following function I found on apples site: http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/WindowsViews/Conceptual/UIScrollView_pg/ZoomZoom/ZoomZoom.html The following is a modified version for my UIScrollView extended class: - (void)zoomToCenter:(float)scale withCenter:(CGPoint)center { CGRect zoomRect; zoomRect.size.height = self.frame.size.height / scale; zoomRect.size.width = self.frame.size.width / scale; zoomRect.origin.x = center.x - (zoomRect.size.width / 2.0); zoomRect.origin.y = center.y - (zoomRect.size.height / 2.0); //return zoomRect; [self zoomToRect:zoomRect animated:YES]; } When I do this, the UIScrollView seems to zoom using the bottom right edge of the zoomRect above and not the center. If I make UIView like this UIView *v = [[UIView alloc] initWithFrame:zoomRect]; [v setBackgroundColor:[UIView redColor]]; [self addSubview:v]; The red box shows up with the touch point dead in the center. Please note: I am writing this from my PC, I recall messing around with the divided by two part on my Mac, so just assume that this draws a rect with the touch point in the center. If the UIView drew off center but zoomed to the right spot it would be all good. However, what happens is when it preforms the zoomToRect it seems to use the bottom right off the zoomRect at the top left of the zoomed in results. Also, I noticed that depending on where I click on the UIScrollView, it anchors to diffrent spots. It almost seems like there is a cross down the middle and it's reflecting the points somehow as though anywhere left of the middle is a negative reflection and anywhere right of the middle is a positive reflection? This seems to complicated, shouldn't it just zoom to the rect that was drawn as the UIView was able to draw? I used a lot of research to figure out how to create a PDF that scales in high quality, so I am assuming that using the CALayer may be throwing off the coordinate system? But to the UIScrollView it should just treat it as a view with 768x985 dimensions. This is sort of advanced, please assume the code for creating the zoomRect is all good. There is something deeper with the CALayer in the UIView which is in the UIScrollView....

• How to change stack size for a .NET program?

  I have a program that does recursive calls for 2 billion times and the stack overflow. I make changes, and then it still need 40K resursive calls. So I need probably serveral MB stack memory. I heard the stack size is default to 1MB. I tried search online. Some one said to go properties -linker .........in visual studio, but I cannot find it. Does anybody knows how to increase it? Also I am wondering if I can set it somewhere in my C# program? P.S. I am using 32-bit winXP and 64bit win7.

  I am stuck on this problem in my homework. I've made it this far and am sure the problem is in my three for loops. • nhibernate configure and buildsessionfactory time

  Hi, I'm using Nhibernate as the OR/M tool for an asp.net application and the startup performance is really frustrating. Part of the problem is definitely me in my lack of understanding but I've tried a fair bit (understanding is definitely improving) and am still getting nowhere. Currently ANTS profiler has that the Configure() takes 13-18 seconds and the BuildSessionFActory() as taking about 5 seconds. From what i've read, these times might actually be pretty good, but they were generally talking about hundreds upon hundreds of mapped entities...this project only has 10. I've combined all the mapping files into a single hbm mapping file and this did improve things but only down to the times mentioned above... I guess, are there any "Traps for young players" that are regularly missed...obvious "I did this/have you enabled that/exclude file x/mark file y as z" etc... I'll try the serialize the configuration thing to avoid the Configure() stage, but I feel that part shouldn't be that long for that amount of entities and so would essentially be hiding a current problem... • Is recursion ever faster than looping?

  I know that recursion is sometimes a lot cleaner than looping, and I'm not asking anything about when I should use recursion over iteration, I know there are lots of questions about that already. What I'm asking is, is recursion ever faster than a loop? To me it seems like, you would always be able to refine a loop and get it to perform more quickly than a recursive function because the loop is absent constantly setting up new stack frames. I'm specifically looking for whether recursion is faster in applications where recursion is the right way to handle the data, such as in some sorting functions, in binary trees, etc.

  Dear friends, I have a program that does recursive calls for 2 billion times and the stack overflow. I make changes, and then it still need 40K resursive calls. So I need probably serveral MB stack memory. I heard the stack size is default to 1MB. I tried search online. Some one said to go properties -linker .........in visual studio, but I cannot find it. Does anybody knows how to increase it? Also I am wondering if I can set it some where in my C# program? P.S. I am using 32-bit winXP and 64bit win7. Thanks a lot

  EDIT: It was issue with database table - dropping and recreating table id column did the work. Problem solved. I'm trying to build web application, that is connected to postgresql database. Results are displaying in view with Kendo UI. When I'm trying to add new row (with Kendo UI 'Add new record' button), I get error 23505: 'Duplicate key violates unique constraint'. My guess is, that EF takes id to insert from the beginning, not the last one, because after 35 (it's number of rows in table) tries - and errors - adding works perfectly. Can someone help me to understand, what's wrong? • Delete merge history in a branch in TFS

  Suppose I have a main branch and a dev branch. Suppose I merge some stuff from dev into main. I check in the merge Now I decide "whoops, the dev branch wasn't really ready for me to merge into main yet." I want to tell TFS: remove that change set from main and forget that the merge ever happened. Rolling back the changeset is easy enough -- I can use the TFS powertools ROLLBACK command. on the Main branch (with the /changeset /recursive flags) However, I will get a warning from the rollback that the merge history for the files has not been deleted. Effect: Later, when dev is ready to be merged into main, the changes in the files that were rolled back previously are NOT merged into Main (this is because TFS "thinks" that those merges are already done. My goal: When I rollback, make TFS remove the merge history so that when I merge dev into main later on, everything merges. How can I do that? BTW: I'm using TFS 2008 SP1

• LVDiff not working in Git

  I'm trying to get lvdiff from meta-diff suite to work with Git. My .gitconfig looks like this: [gui] recentrepo = C:/Users/Tanner/Desktop/FIRST 2010 Beta/Java/LoganRover [user] name = Tanner Smith email = [email protected] [merge "labview"] name = LabVIEW 3-Way Merge driver = 'C:/Program Files/National Instruments/Shared/LabVIEW Merge/LVMerge.exe' 'C:/Program Files/National Instruments/LabVIEW 8.6/LabVIEW.exe' %O %B %A %A recursive = binary [diff "lvdiff"] #command = 'C:/Program Files/meta-diff suite/lvdiff.exe' external = C:/Users/Tanner/Desktop/FIRST 2010 Beta/lvdiff.sh [core] autocrlf = true lvdiff.sh looks like this: #!/bin/sh "C:/Program Files/meta-diff suite/lvdiff.exe" "$2" "%5" | cat And my .gitattributes file looks like this: #Use a cusstom driver to merge LabVIEW files *.vi merge=labview #Use lvdiff as the externel diff program for LabVIEW files *.vi diff=lvdiff But everytime I do a diff, all Git returns is: diff --git a/Build DashBoard Data.vi b/Build DashBoard Data.vi index fd50547..662237f 100644 Binary files a/Build DashBoard Data.vi and b/Build DeashBoard Data.vi differ It is like it is not using it or even recognizing my changes. Any ideas?

• .gitconfig error

  I edited my .gitconfig file to add support for LabView and it appears that I did something that Git doesn't exactly like. The problem is it (Git) doesn't tell me what it doesn't like. What did I do wrong? The error message doesn't help much either: "fatal: bad config file line 13 in c:/Users/Tanner/.gitconfig" [gui] recentrepo = C:/Users/Tanner/Desktop/FIRST 2010 Beta/Java/LoganRover [user] name = Tanner Smith email = [email protected] [merge "labview"] name = LabView 3-Way Merge driver = “C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Merge\LVMerge.exe” “C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.6\LabVIEW.exe” %O %B %A %A recursive = binary And I'm not seeing a line 13, but usually that would mean something is wrong at the end? I don't know, Git is new to me.

• iPhone UIWebView local resources using Javascript and handling onorientationChange

  I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle.
