• OData / WCF Data Service - HTTP 500 Error

  I have created an OData/WCF service using Visual Studio 2010 on Windows XP SP3 with all current patches installed. When I click on "view in browser", the service opens and I see the 3 tables from my EF model. However, when I add a table name ("Commands" in this case) to the end of the query string, rather than seeing the data from the table, I get an HTTP 500 error. (This error (HTTP 500 Internal Server Error) means that the website you are visiting had a server problem which prevented the webpage from displaying.). I have not only followed the examples from 2 sites, but have also tried running the sample application that the blog poster sent me (that works on his machine), and still am not having any luck. The blog post is at Exposing OData from an Entity Framework Model Does anyone have an idea why this is occurring and how to resolve it? • MSTest Test Context Exception Handling

  Is there a way that I can get to the exception that was handled by the MSTest framework using the TestContext or some other method on a base test class? If an unhandled exception occurs in one of my tests, I'd like to spin through all the items in the exception.Data dictionary and display them to the test result to help me figure out why the test failed (we usually add data to the exception to help us debug in the production env, so I'd like to do the same for testing). Note: I am not testing that an exception was SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN (I have other tests for that), I am testing a valid case, I just need to see the exception data. Here is a code example of what I'm talking about. I would also like to do this on a GLOBAL level, so that if any test fails, I get the information in the test results, as opposed to doing it for each individual test. So MSDN is telling me not to use that enumeration (LabelChildOption), which is afaik the only way to create a label and add it to a file. Is there a better way? Is this sort of a "grey" area in the TFS API?

• Django forms, inheritance and order of form fields

  I'm using Django forms in my website and would like to control the order of the fields. Here's how I define my forms: class edit_form(forms.Form): summary = forms.CharField() description = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextArea) class create_form(edit_form): name = forms.CharField() The name is immutable and should only be listed when the entity is created. I use inheritance to add consistency and DRY principles. What happens which is not erroneous, in fact totally expected, is that the name field is listed last in the view/html but I'd like the name field to be on top of summary and description. I do realize that I could easily fix it by copying summary and description into create_form and loose the inheritance but I'd like to know if this is possible. Why? Imagine you've got 100 fields in edit_form and have to add 10 fields on the top in create_form - copying and maintaining the two forms wouldn't look so sexy then. (This is not my case, I'm just making up an example) So, how can I override this behavior? Edit: Apparently there's no proper way to do this without going through nasty hacks (fiddling with .field attribute). The .field attribute is a SortedDict (one of Django's internal datastructures) which doesn't provide any way to reorder key:value pairs. It does how-ever provide a way to insert items at a given index but that would move the items from the class members and into the constructor. This method would work, but make the code less readable. The only other way I see fit is to modify the framework itself which is less-than-optimal in most situations. In short the code would become something like this: class edit_form(forms.Form): summary = forms.CharField() description = forms.CharField(widget=forms.TextArea) class create_form(edit_form): def __init__(self,*args,**kwargs): forms.Form.__init__(self,*args,**kwargs) self.fields.insert(0,'name',forms.CharField()) That shut me up :)

• Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcPermission.. help needed

  I'm getting the following error when trying to connect to a remote mysql server. Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.Odbc.OdbcPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed. I've installed the odbc 5.1 driver, and can connect to the database using the Data Sources (ODBC) tool in Control Panel. However when I try and run my C# scrip to connect, I get the above error. I've read its something to do with trust levels or something? I don't quite understand what people were talking about though. I went to C:... Framework/v2.0.50727/CONFIG and added to the medium and high trust.config files, but that didn't help.. Can someone help me out here please? • Google App Engine on Google Apps Domain

  I'm having trouble getting my domain pointed to my website hosted with google app engine. Here's the background... take care to separate the concepts of "google apps" (domain hosting, email, etc.) and "google app engine" (website framework). I have a domain that's using Google Apps for Your Domain, let's call it company.com. So my login for my google apps account is [email protected]. I have a different domain that is aliased back to my google apps account, let's call it mycompany.com. It's been successfully aliased and registered with my primary google apps account using the cname method, and has updated mx records. We have a ton of domains, and I only want to use one "google apps" account to maintain them all. Now I have a website I've built using google app engine, and the url is effectively mycompany.appspot.com. I want to get mycompany.com to point to my website that currently resides at mycompany.appspot.com. There's a spot in the google app engine dashboard under application settings where you can add a domain. So I click there and enter mycompany.com and I get an error message saying that domain is not using google apps. If I back up to the page I submitted, there's a note saying I need to register the domain with google apps. So I click the link to do that and enter mycompany.com and I get an error message saying the domain has been registered and is in the process of ownership verification. But that process is already finished. So... what do I do? Does google app engine not support a domain that is only aliased to a primary google apps account? Does mycompany.com need to have its own primary google apps account?

• Using SDL2_gfx issues using C++

  When I use the it with the common.c /common.h files that come with it, if I use the cpp instead of c extension using VS201X I get the LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _SDL_main What that means is if I change the file containing main to test.c it compiles. When I change it back to text.cpp it fails to compile. I think that means it only works as a C compile. Here is the code I copied from SDL2_gfxPrimitives.c. • What's the strangest corner case you've seen in C# or .NET?

  I collect a few corner cases and brain teasers and would always like to hear more. The page only really covers C# language bits and bobs, but I also find core .NET things interesting too. For example, here's one which isn't on the page, but which I find incredible: string x = new string(new char[0]); string y = new string(new char[0]); Console.WriteLine(object.ReferenceEquals(x, y)); I'd expect that to print False - after all, "new" (with a reference type) always creates a new object, doesn't it? The specs for both C# and the CLI indicate that it should. Well, not in this particular case. It prints True, and has done on every version of the framework I've tested it with. (I haven't tried it on Mono, admittedly...) Just to be clear, this is only an example of the kind of thing I'm looking for - I wasn't particularly looking for discussion/explanation of this oddity. (It's not the same as normal string interning; in particular, string interning doesn't normally happen when a constructor is called.) I was really asking for similar odd behaviour. Any other gems lurking out there?

• Is ASP.NET MVC destined to replace Webforms?

If not please close this. I know that no one framework or language is necessarily the only tool for every job. But, do you see MVC eclipsing webforms or webforms going lower on the priority list for Microsoft? They will have to keep webforms for a long time because so many have invested in it, but they don't have to keep adding new functionality for it. I don't know if this is a good example, but it reminds me of web parts. I never saw much improvement in it from Microsoft. It works and I thought it was great until I started to really try and get a lot out of it. Then from what I could see it just wasn't being pursued by Microsoft that much, though it stayed in Visual Studio. Maybe that's a bad example; just what I remembered. EDIT: Also, if anyone has any statements from Microsoft on this subject it is appreciated. No offense to anyone. I was only hoping for something official.

• Switching between iScroll and standard WebView Scrolling functionality

  I'm using iScroll 4 for my rather heavy iPhone web/Phonegap app and trying to find a way to switch between iScrolls scrolling functionality and standard "native" webview scrolling, basically on click. Why I want this is described below. My app has several different subpages all in one file. Some subpages have input fields, some don't. As we all know, iScroll + input fields = you're out of luck. I've wrapped iScrolls wrapper div (and all its functionality) around the one sub page where scrolling is crucial, and where there are no input fields. The other sections, I've simply placed outside this div, which gives these no scrolling functionality at all. I've of course tried wrapping all inside the wrapper and enabling/disabling scroll (shown below) but that didn't work me at all: myScroll.disable() myScroll.enable() By placing some sub pages outside the main scrolling area / iscroll div, I've disabled both iScrolls and the standard webview scrolling (the latter - which i guess iScroll does) which leaves me with only basic basic scrolling, hence basically no scrolling at all. One can move around vertically, but once you let go of the screen with, the "scrolling" stops. Quite naturally but alas so nasty. Therefore, I'm searching for a way to enable standard webview scrolling on the sub pages placed outside of iScroll's wrapper div. I've tried different approaches such as the one above and by using: document.removeEventListener('touchmove', preventDefault, false); document.removeEventListener('touchmove', preventDefault, true); But with no success. Sorry for not providing you guys with any hard code or demos to test out for yourselves, it's simply too much code and it would be presented so out of its context, nobody would be able to debug it. So, is there a way n javascript to do this, switching between iScroll scrolling functionality and standard "native" webview scrolling? I would rather not rebuild the entire DOM framework so a solution like the one described above would be preferable.

• DataTableReader is invalid for current DataTable 'TempTable'

  Hi, I'm getting the following error whenever my code creates a DataTableReader from a valid DataTable Object: "DataTableReader is invalid for current DataTable 'TempTable'." The thing is, if I reboot my machine, it works fine for an undertimed amount of time, then dies with the above. The code that throws this error could have been working fine for hours and then: bang. you get this error. It's not limited to one line either; it's every single location that a DataTableReader is used. Also, this error does NOT occur on the production web server - ever. This is an example of one of the lines where it falls over: If I step over this line, I get this: However, if I do this in the immediate window: I get no problems. Same goes if I actually use that line in the code. This has been driving me nuts for the best part of a week, and I've failed to find anything on Google that could help (as I'm pretty positive this isn't a coding issue). • Backend raising (INotify)PropertyChanged events to all connected clients?

  One of our 'frontend' developers keeps requesting from us backend developers that the backend notifies all connected clients (it's a client/server environment) of changes to objects. As in: whenever one user makes a change, all other connected clients must be notified immediately of the change. At the moment our architecture does not have a notification system of that kind and we don't have a sort of pub/sub model for explicitly chosen objects (e.g. the one the frontend is currently implementing).. which would make sense in such a usecase imho, but obviously requires extra implementation. However, I thought frontends typically check for locks for concurrently existing user changes on the same object and rather pull for changes / load on demand and in the background rather than the backend pushing all changes to all clients for all objects constantly.. which seems rather excessive to me. However, it's being argumented that e.g. the MS Entity Framework does in fact publish (INotify)PropertyChanged not only for local changes, but for all such changes including other client connections, but I have found no proof or details regarding this. Can anyone shed some light into this? Do other e.g. ORMs etc provide broadcasted (INotify)PropertyChanged events on entities?

Sooo, i am confuzed now. What do I have to call, import, add, use in code.... to make this work? I am using Google Api2.2, Api level 8. If somebody has found a solution for this, or a pointer for documentation, something that i didn't discover, please let us know. Thank you for your time.

• How to set up RPX widget and facebook app to be able to authenticate with rpx_now?

  Using the sample app for rpx_now gem ( http://github.com/grosser/rpx_now_example) on localhost:3000, I have successfully logged in via Google Accounts, myOpenID, Yahoo, but cannot make it via Facebook. In the RPX app/widget settings I have set my facebook-app key and secret. In my facebook app settings, the Connect URL is myappname.rpxnow.com. But when I try to connect, then I don't even see a facebook login page, just a number of redirects and I am back to my localhost with the following exception http://gist.github.com/386520 . Before I was successfully connecting with oauth2 gem, however, without fetching user data - only authentication. That time I set only key/secret and localhost as my Connect URL. Currently, I don't even ask for email etc., but still the same problem. Can it happen because rpx_now cannot get requested user data from facebook? Or it is a problem of facebook key/secret? May be I need to provide more settings of my facebook app?   I want to create a table of contents and endnotes in a Jinja2 template. How can one accomplish these tasks? After seeing a number of serializers/deserializers, we settled on using XStream to serialize and deserialize these stub objects. XStream works like a charm. Its pretty good at what it claims to be. Previously, we had a single factory class say AFactory which produced all the stubs needed for testing different test cases. Now when externalizing each of the stub generated, we hit a road block. We had to create 1 xml file for each stub produced by the factory. For example, public final class AFactory{ public static A createStub1(){ /*Code here */} public static A createStub2(){ /*Code here */} public static A createStub3(){ /*Code here */} } Now, when trying to move this stubs to external files, we had to create 1 xml file for each stub created(A-stub1.xml, A-stub2.xml and A-stub3.xml). The problem with this approach is that, it leads to proliferation of xml stub files. I was thinking, how about keeping all the stubs related to a single bean class in a single xml file. <?xml version="1.0"?> <stubs class="A"> <stub id="stub1"> <!-- Here comes the externalized xml stub representation --> </stub> <stub id="stub2"> </stub> </stubs> Is there a framework which allows you keep all the stub in xml representation in a single xml file as above ? Or What do you guys suggest should be the right approach to adhere to ?

• addthis api? Is it possible to bookmark another URL?

  Hello! At the moment, I try to include addthis social-bookmarks to my site. My problem is, that I have to bookmark another link than the url on my site. Instead of www.example.com, I have to bookmark www.example.com?media=my-media-file. From the beginning: A User comes to my site. On my site are several movies. He can click on a movie thumbnail and watch the movie without reloading the site (javascript). Now he can click on my social bookmark icon to share this movie. Now the addthis framework thinks that the User want's to share www.example.com (cause this is whats in my url). But I want the user to share www.example.com?media=foo-bar . Opening www.example.com?media=foo-bar for the correct movie is still working, but no social bookmaring. I hope you understand my problem and can help me. I searched without success in the addthis api. So, can u help me?

• Modeling a Generic Relationship in a Database

  This is most likely one for all you sexy DBAs out there: How would I effieciently model a relational database whereby I have a field in an "Event" table which defines a "SportType". This "SportsType" field can hold a link to different sports tables E.g. "FootballEvent", "RubgyEvent", "CricketEvent" and "F1 Event". Each of these Sports tables have different fields specific to that sport. My goal is to be able to genericly add sports types in the future as required, yet hold sport specific event data (fields) as part of my Event Entity. Is it possible to use an ORM such as NHibernate / Entity framework which would reflect such a relationship? • How to use an OSGi service from a web application?

  I'm trying to develop a web application that is going to be launched from a HTTP OSGi service, this application needs to use other OSGi service (db4o OSGi), for what I need a reference to a BundleContext. I have tried two different approaches to get the OSGi context in the web application: Store the BundleContext of the Activator in an static field of a class that the web service can import and use. Use FrameworkUtil.getBundle(this.getClass()).getBundleContext() (being this an instance of MainPage, a class of the web application). I think that first option is completely wrong, but anyway I'm having problems with the class loaders in both options. In the second one it raises a LinkageError: java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: loader (instance of org/apache/felix/framework/ModuleImpl$ModuleClassLoader) previously initiated loading for a different type with name "com/db4o/ObjectContainer" Also tried with Equinox and I have a similar error: java.lang.LinkageError: loader constraint violation: loader (instance of org/eclipse/osgi/internal/baseadaptor/DefaultClassLoader) previously initiated loading for a different type with name "com/db4o/ObjectContainer" The code that provokes the exception is: ServiceReference reference = context.getServiceReference(Db4oService.class.getName()); Db4oService service = (Db4oService)context.getService(reference); database = service.openFile("foo.db"); The exception is raised in the last line, database class is ObjectContainer, if I change the type of this variable to Object exception is not raised, but It's not useful as an Object :)

• deserialize Json using JavaScriptSerializer Custom Types

  I have a RESTFUL WCF service returning a .NET custom type as json string. I am using .NET 3.5 framework and I am using JavaScriptSerializer for deserializing it in to my custom type. Serialization to json is handled by WCF. using (WebResponse resp = req.GetResponse()) { using (System.IO.StreamReader sreader = new System.IO.StreamReader(resp.GetResponseStream())) { string jsonString = sreader.ReadToEnd(); CustomType myType = new CustomType(); System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer serializer = new System.Web.Script.Serialization.JavaScriptSerializer(); myType = serializer.Deserialize<CustomType>(jsonString); return myType; } } The problem is that, I have a property (or element) of the CustomType which is generic list of another custom type ChildObject. They are in different namespaces. When I deserialize using the code above, I get all the properties of the CustomType myType including a list of ChildObject. But all the properties of the ChildObject is null. The string returned from the stream reader has all the values for the ChildObject. the values are lost when deserializing. Can anyone help me with this please?

• Create ABPerson Records in a Shared CardDAV (10.6/Server Hosted) AddressBook

  Hello, My app presently reads and writes to the local Mac OS X 10.6 client addressbook using the AddressBook.framework. It works fine. 10.6 Server introduced AddressBook Server, which 10.6 clients can connect to by setting up a CardDAV Account. User and Group records can be stored in that account, which is synchronized to the 10.6 server and made available to other clients who access the same CardDAV account. Mail.app is able to autocomplete the email addresses from accounts that are in the local datastore as well as the remote CardDAV datastore. ABPeoplePicker can see both. But, programatically, I'm not getting any CardDAV-based data returned from my queries against the shared AddressBook. I'm not sure if I need to ask it for a different AddressBook, or if I need to modify my fetch-request to indicate that I want it to be able to use the shared data too. My goal is to adapt the current code so that it can read/write to the CardDAV account too, instead of just the local addressbook. Thoughts?

• Sys is undefined

  I have an ASP.Net/AJAX control kit project that i am working on. 80% of the time there is no problem. The page runs as it should. If you refresh the page it will sometimes show a javascript error "Sys is undefined". It doesn't happen all the time, but it is reproducible. When it happens, the user has to shut down their browser and reopen the page. This leads me to believe that it could be an IIS setting. Another note. I looked at the page source both when I get the error, and when not. • google appengine local datastore integration testing with spring

  Hi all, I want to write some integration tests to see how my spring-managed DAO's behave when talking to the appengine datastore. Following the spring manual I will be providing my test-classes with the proper annotations: @RunWith(SpringJUnit4ClassRunner.class) @ContextConfiguration(locations = { "classpath:applicationContext.xml" }) After a lot of browsing I found this blog post dating back to august '09 from somebody doing exactly what I want to achieve. It involves writing a TestEnvironment class that implements ApiProxy.Environment plus talking to ApiProxyLocalImpl. However, if I look at the current docs (for version 1.3.1), it seems that this has been replaced by newing an instance of the framework provided LocalDatastoreServiceTestConfig which is passed to a LocalServiceTestHelper. It is too bad that the appengine docs don't show an example how to do this with JPA because then the spring wiring would be trivial. Trying to follow the route outlined in the blog posting has me running into a compiler messages telling me that classes such as ApiProxyLocalImpl are not visible by me. Hence, there must be a new way of doing it, which probably involves the LocalServiceTestHelper. My question: Does anybody know how? I know I will need to configure an EntityManagerFactory and provide it with the Datastore connection somehow... but how? :)
