  • IF Statement has strange behavior

    I've developed a 'custom' cout, so that I can display text to console and also print it to a log file. This cout class is passed a different integer on initialization, with the integer representing the verbosity level of the message. If the current verbosity level is greater then or equal to the verbosity level of the message, the message should print. The problem is, I have messages printing even when the current verbosity level is too low. I went ahead and debugged it, expecting to find the problem. Instead, I found multiple scenarios where my if statements are not working as expected. The statement if(ilralevel_passed <= ilralevel_set) will sometimes proceed even if ilralevel_set is LESS then ilralevel_passed. You can see this behavior in the following picture (my apologizes for using Twitpic) http://twitpic.com/1xtx4g/full. Notice how ilralevel_set is equal to zero, and ilralevel_passed is equal to one. Yet, the if statement has returned true and is now moving forward to pass the line to cout. I've never seen this type of behavior before and I'm not exactly sure how to proceed debugging it. I'm not able to isolate the behavior either -- it only occurs in certain parts of my program. I ended up writing the function shown below, but I can't help but think there is a built-in way to do this.     In my development environment, I'm compiling a code base using GNU C++ 3.4.6. Code is under development, and unfortunately crashes now and then. It's nice to be able to run the traceback through a demangler, and I use c++filt 3.4. The problem comes when functions have a number of STL parameters. However, the STL is a fairly regular and recognizable package of templates. So what I'm hoping is that someone out there has created an enhanced version of c++filt which would dump something closer to the original function signature. Any hints?

  • When should I use $ (and can it always be replaced with parentheses)?

    From what I'm reading, $ is described as "applies a function to its arguments." However, it doesn't seem to work quite like (apply ...) in Lisp, because it's a binary operator, so really the only thing it looks like it does is help to avoid parentheses sometimes, like foo $ bar quux instead of foo (bar quux). Am I understanding it right? Is the latter form considered "bad style"?

But consider this code... $array = array('Item 1'); $array += array('Item 2'); var_dump($array); Output is array(1) { [0]= string(6) "Item 1" } Why does this not work? Skipping the shorthand and using $array = $array + array('Item 2') does not work either. Does it have something to do with the keys?

    Hi, I need to validate a date in a web forms application. For this I use a CompareValidator with Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" The problem is that this Validator doesn't work properly on Firefox with 2 digit years. ( javascript error: m[2] is undefined) With a 4 digits year it's working properly. I am getting the left hand expression from a class property which is a nullable datetime variable and my right hand side is using Expression.Constant(new Nullable<DateTime>(DateTime.Now)) However I still get the above exception despite explicitly setting the right hand expression to a nullable type

    This matrix transposition function works, but I'm trying to understand its step by step execurtion and I don't get it. transpose:: [[a]]->[[a]] transpose ([]:_) = [] transpose x = (map head x) : transpose (map tail x) with transpose [[1,2,3],[4,5,6],[7,8,9]] it returns: [[1,4,7],[2,5,8],[3,6,9]] I don't get how the concatenation operator is working with map. It is concatenating each head of x in the same function call? How?

    I have a set of nested yaml lists with something like the following: title: the example image: link.jpg products: - top-level: Product One arbitrary: Value nested-products: - nested: Associated Product sub-arbitrary: Associated Value - top-level: Product Two arbitrary: Value - top-level: Product Three arbitrary: Value I can loop through the products with no problem using for item in page.products and I can use a logic operator to determine if nested products exist - what I CAN'T do is loop through multiple nested-products per iteration of top-level I have tried using for subitem in item and other options - but I can't get it to work - any ideas?
