  • Listening UDP or switch to TCP in a MFC application

    I'm editing a legacy MFC application, and I have to add some basic network functionalities. The operating side has to receive a simple instruction (numbers 1,2,3,4...) and do something based on that. The clients wants the latency to be as fast as possible, so naturally I decided to use datagrams (UDP). But reading all sorts of resources left me bugged. I cannot listen to UDP sockets (CAsyncSocket) in MFC, it's only possible to call Receive which blocks and waits. Blocking the UI isn't really a smart. So I guess I could use some threading technique, but since I'm not all that experienced with MFC how should that be implemented? The other part of the question is should I do this, or revert to TCP, considering reliability and implementation issues. I know that UDP is unreliable, but just how unreliable is it really?     I need to define a weak reference Map, whose value is a Set. I use Google collections' MapMaker, like this: Map<Class<? extends Object>, Set<Foo>> map = new MapMaker().weakKeys().weakValues().makeMap(); So, for Set<Foo>, can I use a normal HashSet? Or, do I have to create a weak HashSet, like this: Collections.newSetFromMap(new WeakHashMap<Foo, Boolean>()); And why? Another question, the key of my map is Class objects, when will a Class object become weakly reachable? In other words, what is the lifetime of a Class object? Thanks.

    The situation: There a collapsible advanced search box. It is made up of a search box div that contains a boxhead div and a boxbody div. Inside the boxbody div, there is a searchToggle div. When the user clicks "Show/Hide", the display style property of the searchToggle div is toggled between block and none. (The search fields are hidden and the search boxbody gets much smaller). The 2 background-images for the body of the search box are set via the css of the searchBox div and the boxbody div. In IE7, when the searchToggle div is hidden, the background-image from the searchBox div extends on the left more than it should (see Here). It shows up correctly when the display of the searchToggle div is block (see Here). Everything show up correctly, in both cases, in IE8 and FF.   • Improve SQL strategy - denormalize in object-children-images case

    Hi, I have a Tour object which has many Place objects. For the list of tours, I want to show some info of the tour, the number of places of the tour, and three Place's images. Right one my SQL queries are (i'm using Doctrine with Symfony on MySQL) get Tour get Tour 1 places get Tour 2 places get Tour 3 places ... get Tour n places If I have a three Tour list, it's not so bad; but I'm sure it can get bad if I do a 10-20 tour-list. So, thinking on how to improve the queries I've thought of several measures: Having a place count cache Storing the urls of three images on a new tour field. The problem with 2. is that if I change the image, I have to check all the tours to update that image for another one. What solution do you think is best to scale the system in a near future? Any other suggestion. thanks!

  • Synthetic click doesn't switch application's menu bar (Mac OS X)

    Hi. I'm developing some sort of air mouse application for iPhone platform. This applications connects to one computer service which generates mouse events on Mac OS X. I'm generating this events with CGEventCreateMouseEvent() and CGEventPost(). But I've encountered one problem. Let's say you are using Safari and then you click on free desktop space. If you do this with regular mouse it will hide Safari's top menu bar and show Finder menu bar. But on these synthetic events it doesn't act like that. Do I have to post some other event or set some additional properties? Note: C++ does not support default-int I am not able to figure out how to make sure that T::xType can be treated as a type inside the T2 template. Any help is highly appreciated.

    I'm using the CDT4 - MinGW Makefiles generator. Project-Build All successfully builds the target (a shared library) but it seems I would have to (A) open a project settings page and type in the target, hoping it's spelled right*, or (B) run make from a terminal to "build" the install and package targets. I noticed a promising Project-Make Target entry, but the Create... and Build... sub-entries are greyed-out.   • How do I switch the table that is queried with linq-to-sql

    We have two tables with the same set of columns; depending on the “type” of object the value is stored in one of the two tables. I wish to use common code to access these two tables. If I was using “raw sql” I could just use String.Format() to change the table name. (Likewise for updates etc) The two separate tables are needed as the data access patterns are very different for the common queries on the two tables and therefore different indexes are needed. “Views” and “instead of triggers” etc to make the tables look like a single table are not liked here. A lot of our customers use low end version of SqlServer so we cannot use partition tables.

If I hover over any inactive element, it becomes visible and active. The previously active element becomes inactive. On mouseout, nothing happens - the last hovered element stays active. My problems: The first active element always stays active (in DOM?). It becomes invisible, but on next mouseover nothing happens. Other elements don't behave as they should.   • The case of the mysterious MySQL caching across restarts

    I found a very slow MySQL query in my web app. The weird thing is that the query is only slow the first time it's executed, despite the fact that the query_cache is set to its default (query_cache_size 0) like so: mysql> show variables like 'query%'; +------------------------------+---------+ | Variable_name | Value | +------------------------------+---------+ | query_alloc_block_size | 8192 | | query_cache_limit | 1048576 | | query_cache_min_res_unit | 4096 | | query_cache_size | 0 | | query_cache_type | ON | | query_cache_wlock_invalidate | OFF | | query_prealloc_size | 8192 | +------------------------------+---------+ The even weirder thing is that this speedup persists even after the MySQL server has been stopped and restarted (I'm using OSX, and perform this restart using the system preferences pane.) The only way I can re-create the poor performance of the initial query is by rebooting the system. So my question is: how is this happening? Obviously some sort of caching at work, but where? And how does it persist across database restarts? This query is mediated through our web app, which comes via PHP/Apache, but there are no extra bells and whistles, and the curious caching also persists across Apache restarts. Help?

  • jQuery Toggle switch images

    Hi Guys, I have a situation where I am not understanding jQuery's Toggle. I have two buttons, both of them open the same content and when you click on either button the content should open or close and the attribute changes the button from open to closed. (So both buttons do the same function). Only thing is, when I click on the top button and it opens my content and then click on the lower button to close it, the image attributes are switched incorrectly.     I didn't find solution for my problem with two QLayouts. I need app with QHBoxLayout with possible expandind when I will add new widgets, push buttons, .... So what I have: One QDialog and two layouts. Now I know that I can't hide the layout. So I tray just : layout()->removeItem(firstlayout); layout()->addLayout(secondLayout); But when I did this, I saw all items in first layout on possition [0,0]. So next step I try: for (all items in first layout) if (widget) widget->hide(); But this is working only with QWidget and I have many different items in layouts. Simply way is use the widget, because there is possibole to use hide/show, but I need auto expanding window when I add new items.
