• Best Way to Include Debug Code?

  I am programming Android applications, and the best way here may or may not be the same as Java in general. I simply want to be able to set a debug flag that will only execute certain portions of code when it's set to true––equiv to C++ setting a preprocessor #define DEBUG and using #ifdef DEBUG. Is there an accepted or best way to accomplish this in Java? Right now I'm just going to set a variable in my Application object, but I don't imagine this is the best way.

I've been trying to do it by using: java.lang.System.setProperty("java.class.path", "whatever"); The class I'm calling requires a configuration file in the classpath to work - and I keep getting errors that seem to indicate that it hasn't gotten its settings. Is the way I'm trying to add variable incorrect?

  Hi As i started programming by jdk6, i had no problem in text components neither in awt nor in swing. Unfortunately, opposed to other situations i encountered before, here there is no way to avoid using awt and make use of Swing in this case. And this was just an SSCCE i made to show the problem and my recent (also first) application suffers from this subject. Note: it seems i can not attach anything, so the contents od the text file would be this: ????? and the contents of properties file: #Sun May 02 09:45:10 IRDT 2010 tray.show=????? but i don't think by giving you the unicode-scape sequence, these would be necessary any way... And i think should have to let you know I posted this question a while ago in SDN and "the Java Ranch" forums and other native forums and still I'm watching... By the way i am using latest version of Netbeans IDE... I will be so grateful if anybody has a solution to this damn AWT components never rendered any Farsi character for me... Thanks in advance

  Hello, I first used primefaces FileUpload component and it didn't work. Always gave "HTTP Error". So i thought there is some bug with this component and went to plain old JQuery and tried using uploadify. But still i get the same error. I am using Container Managed Security. Is this the reason for not working properly? • How do I get my dependenices inject using @Configurable in conjunction with readResolve()

  The framework I am developing for my application relies very heavily on dynamically generated domain objects. I recently started using Spring WebFlow and now need to be able to serialize my domain objects that will be kept in flow scope. I have done a bit of research and figured out that I can use writeReplace() and readResolve(). The only catch is that I need to look-up a factory in the Spring context. I tried to use @Configurable(preConstruction = true) in conjunction with the BeanFactoryAware marker interface. But beanFactory is always null when I try to use it in my createEntity() method. Neither the default constructor nor the setBeanFactory() injector are called. Has anybody tried this or something similar? I have included relevant class below.   I thought java.math.BigDecimal is supposed to be The Answer™ to the need of performing infinite precision arithmetic with decimal numbers. Consider the following snippet: import java.math.BigDecimal; //... final BigDecimal one = BigDecimal.ONE; final BigDecimal three = BigDecimal.valueOf(3); final BigDecimal third = one.divide(three); assert third.multiply(three).equals(one); // this should pass, right? I expect the assert to pass, but in fact the execution doesn't even get there: one.divide(three) causes ArithmeticException to be thrown! Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ArithmeticException: Non-terminating decimal expansion; no exact representable decimal result. at java.math.BigDecimal.divide It turns out that this behavior is explicitly documented in the API: In the case of divide, the exact quotient could have an infinitely long decimal expansion; for example, 1 divided by 3. If the quotient has a non-terminating decimal expansion and the operation is specified to return an exact result, an ArithmeticException is thrown. Otherwise, the exact result of the division is returned, as done for other operations. Browsing around the API further, one finds that in fact there are various overloads of divide that performs inexact division, i.e.: final BigDecimal third = one.divide(three, 33, RoundingMode.DOWN); System.out.println(three.multiply(third)); // prints "0.999999999999999999999999999999999" Of course, the obvious question now is "What's the point???". I thought BigDecimal is the solution when we need exact arithmetic, e.g. for financial calculations. If we can't even divide exactly, then how useful can this be? If this is not the right answer, what CAN we use for exact division in financial calculation? (I mean, I don't have a finance major, but they still use division, right???).

  I have compiled and jarred the various projects in my Java application, generating serialVersionUIDs automatically through Eclipse for all my classes derived from Serializable. I read the answers to this question, and verified that serialVersionUids are all private static final long. Nevertheless, I get an error like this when I try to run: java.io.InvalidClassException: com.acme.product.Widget; local class incompatible: stream classdesc serialVersionUID = 5226096973188250357, local class serialVersionUID = -5432967318654384362 What am I missing?

I would prefer NON-com.sun.* as per java conventions, but still my dependencies ( e.g. Spring ) are using implementations from com.sun.* OR I can't find an implementation package in javax.xml Does anyone have any experience on this?
