• Is there a design pattern for injecting methods into a class?

  I have a set of classes that work together (I'm coding in javascript). There is one parent class and a number of child classes that are instantiated by the parent class. I have a number of clients of these classes that each need to add on one more methods to the parent or child classes. Rather than having each client inherit from these classes, which is doable but messy because of the child classes, I am having these clients pass functions into the parent class when they instantiate the main class. The main class creates the methods dynamically and the clients can call the methods like they were there all along. My questions are: is this a sensible thing to do? what would the design pattern be for what I am doing?

The user fields are not stored in the db directly, they'll be serialized together since they'll be used infrequently. Is the following the best way to do this? Alternatives?   I have a lot of methods for logging, like logSomeAction, logAnotherAction etc. Now I want all these methods make a small pause after printing messages (Thread.sleep). If I do it manually, I would do something like this: //before: public static void logSomeAction () { System.out.println (msg(SOME_ACTION)); } //after: public static void logSomeAction () { System.out.println (msg(SOME_ACTION)); try { Thread.sleep (2000); } catch (InterruptedException ignored) { } } I remember that Java has proxy classes and some other magic-making tools.   Eclipse allows us to define a class as: interface MyInterface { void methodA(); int methodB(); } class A : MyInterface { MyInterface myInterface; } and then with this "Generate delegate methods", it will implement all needed methods for the interface, redirecting their logic to myInterface's methods: class A : MyInterface { MyInterface myInterface; public void methodA() { myInterface.methodA(); } public int methodB() { return myInterface.methodB(); } } Is it possible to accomplish the same with VS2010? • Is there a way to only have StyleCop documenation requirements SA1600 on public methods/properties?

  I've been using XMLDoc for a few years now, and have definitely grown into the mindset for supplying quality documentation for public methods and properties. However under StyleCop (and particularly its Resharper highlighting) I've noticed that the documentation requirements apply to identically to public, internal, protected and private methods. This seems a little counter-intuative to me, so I would ideally like to suppress it down to suggestions at least for private methods. Unfortunately it does seem as if the suppress setting is only across all public, internal, private, etc. Am I missing something or is this by design?

I have habbit of declaring all global methods in public class in following format public static string MethodName(parameters) { } I want to know how it would impact on performance point of view? 1) Which one is Better? • Haskell's type system treats a numerical value as function?

  After playing around with haskell a bit I stumbled over this function: Prelude Data.Maclaurin> :t ((+) . ($) . (+)) ((+) . ($) . (+)) :: (Num a) => a -> (a -> a) -> a -> a (Data.Maclaurin is exported by the package vector-space.) So it takes a Num, a function, another Num and ultimately returns a Num. What magic makes the following work? Prelude Data.Maclaurin> ((+) . ($) . (+)) 1 2 3 6 2 is obviously not a function (a-a) or did I miss out on something?

  According to this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/wa80x488.aspx "Partial methods are implicitly private" So you can have this // Definition in file1.cs partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs partial void Method1() { // method body } But you cant have this // Definition in file1.cs public partial void Method1(); // Implementation in file2.cs public partial void Method1() { // method body } But why is this? Is there some reason the compiler cant handle public partial methods?

• How do I get the scalaz IDEA live templates working for the symbolic methods?

  Many of the methods in scalaz have symbolic equivalents, such as forever and 8 (of course, I have this the wrong way round, the symbolic methods really have ASCII equivalents). The project contains a live templates XML file for IDEA so these can be auto-completed, I believe by using the forever+TAB shortcut (in the above instance). I can't figure out how to import this live template into IDEA and actually use it, though. How can I do that?

• Why do encodeXxx methods in UIComponent accept FacesContext parameter?

  I haven't ever before created custom components in JSF so I've noticed only now that methods like encodeBegin(), encodeEnd() etc accept FacesContext parameter. FacesContext instance can usually be received with FacesContext.getCurrentInstance(). So, I wonder whether these methods have FacesContext parameter just for convenience or some different objects can be passed there (maybe from external resources..). If the latter is possible then could you give an example pls.

  I really this is a hugely subjective topic but here is my current take: When calling methods which do not form part of the .NET BCL named parameters should always be used as the method signatures may well change, especially during the development cycle of my own applications. Although they might appear more verbose they are also far clearer. Is the above a reasonable approach to calling methods or have I overlooked something fundamental?

  I've searched through the web and what I've found out is this: To make the compiler warn you of the details of which methods you used that were deprecated use the javac.exe -deprecation switch. Then look in the Javadoc for the deprecated methods to find out the recommended replacements. Sometimes you just have to rename. Sometimes the replacements work quite differently. But I'm not really understand how it works, can anybody help me with this?

  I'm integrating the latest version of the admob sdk (version 20100412) into my app. The ads get displayed, but I need the app to make some changes when an ad is clicked and admob displays a full-screen browser. However, none of the callback methods (willPresentFullScreenModal, didPresentFullScreenModal, willDismissFullScreenModal, and didDismissFullScreenModal) are called, even though other delegate methods are. Why aren't these callbacks being made? They were in the previous versions of the SDK, and the sample app doesn't use them, so it's no help.

  What I'm trying to do is to take the highest two values out of 4 possible variables and add them together, while ignoring the lesser two values. My values will be anywhere between 1 and 5. So, for example, if I have Trait1, Trait2, Trait3 and Trait4 with the following assigned values: 3, 3, 2, 1, the script will pick up the 3 and the 3, but not the 2 and the 1. If I change the values around so that I have 4, 3, 1, 5, the script will pick up the 4 and the 5, but not the 3 and the 1. How would I go about doing this? Thank you in advance.

  I am writing some simple output in fortran, but I want whitespace delimiters. If use the following statement, however: format(A20,ES18.8,A12,ES18.8) I get output like this: p001t0000 3.49141273E+01obsgp_oden 1.00000000E+00 I would prefer this: p001t0000 3.49141273E+01 obsgp_oden 1.00000000E+00 I tried using negative values for width (like in Python) but no dice. So, is there a way to left-justify the numbers? Many thanks in advance!
