  • How can I return to a string address and then assign it to a new string?

    - by Y_Y
    I have 1 function that I want to return the address of an assigned string to the main function and assign an new string pointer with the same address so that the new string will have the contents of the old string. For example: unknown_datatype function() { char *old = "THE STRING"; return old; } int main() { char *snew = ""; snew = function(); return 0; } *unknown_datatype means I don't know that to put there... *How can I approach this without changing anything in the main() method

  • Class Template Instantiation: any way round this circular reference?

    - by TimYorke34
    I have two classes that I'm using to represent some hardware: A Button and an InputPin class which represent a button that will change the value of an IC's input pin when it's pressed down. A simple example of them is: template <int pinNumber> class InputPin { static bool IsHigh() { return ( (*portAddress) & (1<<pinNumber) ); } }; template <typename InputPin> class Button { static bool IsPressed() { return !InputPin::IsHigh(); } }; This works beautifully and by using class templates, the condition below will compile as tightly as if I'd handwritten it in assembly (a single instruction). Button < InputPin<1> > powerButton; if (powerButton.IsPressed()) ........; However, I am extending it to deal with interrupts and have got a problem with circular references. Compared to the original InputPin, a new InputPinIRQ class has an extra static member function that will be called automatically by the hardware when the pin value changes. I'd like it to be able to notify the Button class of this, so that the Button class can then notify the main application that it has been pressed/released. I am currently doing this with function pointers to callbacks. In order for the callback code to be inlined by the compiler, I need to pass the function pointers as template parameters. So now, both of the new classes have an extra template parameter that is a pointer to a callback function. Unfortunately this gives me a circular reference because to instantiate a ButtonIRQ class I now have to do something like this: ButtonIRQ< InputPinIRQ< A1, ButtonIRQ<....>::OnPinChange, OnButtonChange > pB; where the <...... represents the circular reference. Does anyone know how I can avoid this circular reference? I am new to templates, so might be missing something really simple. It's important that the compiler knows exactly what code will be run when the interrupt occurs as it then does some very useful optimisation - it is able to inline the callback function and literally inserts the callback function's code at the exact address that is called on a h/w interrupt.

  • sapply and concurrency in R

    - by JSmaga
    Good afternoon, Somebody asked me a question today and neither did I know the answer nor could I find it in the documentation. This person simply asked me if the sapply function in R was making concurrent calls to the function you want to apply to the list, or if the computation is done sequantially. Does anybody know the answer? What about rapply (the recursive version of this function)? Thanks, Jeremie

    - by Jason T.
    As the title implies how can I create a new log file each day in C#? Now the program may not necessarily run all day and night but only get invoked during business hours. So I need to do two things. 1) How can I create a new log file each day? The log file will be have the name in a format like MMDDYYYY.txt 2) How can I create it just after midnight in case it is running into all hours of the night?

  • jquery .blur for entire block of HTML

    - by Stacey
    I have an HTML item for a 'drop down menu', structured like this... <li class="ui-dropdown-list" > <a href="#">Right Drop Down Menu</a> <ul> <li><a href="#">Item</a></li> <li><a href="#">Item</a></li> <li><a href="#">Item</a></li> </ul> </li> Using jQuery to make this a dropdown list, with the following code. jQuery.fn.dropdown = function () { var defaults = { button: null, menu: null, visible: false }; var options = $.extend(defaults, options); return this.each(function () { options.button = $(this); options.menu = $(this).find("ul"); // when the parent is clicked, determine whether dropdown needs to occur options.button.click(function () { options.visible ? lift(options.menu) : drop(options.menu); options.visible = !options.visible; }); // drop the menu down so that it can be seen. function drop(e) { options.button.addClass("open"); options.menu.show(); } // lift the menu up, hiding it from view. function lift(e) { options.menu.hide(); options.button.removeClass('open'); } }); }; I am trying to wire it up so that if the user clicks anywhere outside of the menu, it will collapse it. This is proving much more difficult than I anticipated; even trying to use page level events. Any suggestions? The menu itself never really 'receives' focus, so using .blur doesn't seem to be suiting the purpose.

  • ajax not working in codeigniter

  • FineUploader multiple instances and dynamic naming

    - by RichieMN
    I am using FineUploader 4.0.8 within a MVC4 project using the jquery wrapper. Here is an example of my js code that creates a single instance of the fineUploader and is working just fine. At this time, I have the need for more than one instance of fineUploader, but each individual control doesn't know anything about the other and they're rendered as needed on a page (I've seen previous questions using a jQuery .each, which won't work here). Currently, I can't seem to correctly render any upload buttons, probably due to having an ID duplicated or something. See below for how I'm using MVC's Razor to create unique variables and html IDs for that individual instance. Here's my current implementation where I've added the dynamic values (places where you see _@Model.{PropertyName}): // Uploader control setup var [email protected] = $('#[email protected]').fineUploader({ debug: true, template: '[email protected]', button: $("#[email protected]"), request: { endpoint: '@Url.Action("UploadFile", "Survey")', customHeaders: { Accept: 'application/json' }, params: { [email protected]: (function () { return instance; }), [email protected]: (function () { return surveyItemResultId; }), [email protected]: (function () { return itemId; }), [email protected]: (function () { return loopingCounter++; }) } }, validation: { acceptFiles: ['image/*', 'application/xls', 'application/pdf', 'text/csv', 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.template', 'application/vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.spreadsheetml.sheet', 'application/vnd.ms-excel'], allowedExtensions: ['jpeg', 'jpg', 'gif', 'png', 'bmp', 'csv', 'xls', 'xlsx', 'pdf', 'xlt', 'xltx', 'txt'], sizeLimit: 1024 * 1024 * 2.5, // 2.5MB stopOnFirstInvalidFile: false }, failedUploadTextDisplay: { mode: 'custom' }, multiple: true, text: { uploadButton: 'Select your upload file(s)' } }).on('submitted', function (event, id, filename) { $("#modal-overlay").fadeIn(); $("#modal-box").fadeIn(); [email protected]++; $(':input[type=button], :input[type=submit], :input[type=reset]').attr('disabled', 'disabled'); }).on('complete', function (event, id, filename, responseJSON) { [email protected]++; if ([email protected] == [email protected]) { $(':input[type=button], :input[type=submit], :input[type=reset]').removeAttr('disabled'); //$("#overlay").fadeOut(); $("#modal-box").fadeOut(); $("#modal-overlay").fadeOut(); } }).on('error', function (event, id, name, errorReason, xhr) { //$("#overlay").fadeOut(); alert('error: ' + errorReason); $("#modal-box").fadeOut(); $("#modal-overlay").fadeOut(); }); }); Using the same principle as above, I've added this logic to the template too. Here's part of my template: <script type="text/template" id="[email protected]"> <div class="qq-uploader-selector qq-uploader"> <div class="qq-upload-drop-area-selector qq-upload-drop-area qq-hide-dropzone"> <span>Drop files here to upload</span> What I see when I use the above code is only the drag and drop section visible, and no button. There are no js errors either. I do have an example that only has one instance of this control on it and the results are the same visible drag and drop section and no button). Any thought as to what's going on? I'll gladly update the question if you find I'm missing something helpful. Please don't just -1 me if it's something I can easily improve or fix.

  • Same source, multiple targets with different resources (Visual Studio .Net 2008)

    - by Mike Bell
    A set of software products differ only by their resource strings, binary resources, and by the strings / graphics / product keys used by their Visual Studio Setup projects. What is the best way to create, organize, and maintain them? i.e. All the products essentially consist of the same core functionality customized by graphics, strings, and other resource data to form each product. Imagine you are creating a set of products like "Excel for Bankers", Excel for Gardeners", "Excel for CEOs", etc. Each product has the the same functionality, but differs in name, graphics, help files, included templates etc. The environment in which these are being built is: vanilla Windows.Forms / Visual Studio 2008 / C# / .Net. The ideal solution would be easy to maintain. e.g. If I introduce a new string / new resource projects I haven't added the resource to should fail at compile time, not run time. (And subsequent localization of the products should also be feasible). Hopefully I've missed the blindingly-obvious and easy way of doing all this. What is it? ============ Clarification(s) ================ By "product" I mean the package of software that gets installed by the installer and sold to the end user. Currently I have one solution, consisting of multiple projects, (including a Setup project), which builds a set of assemblies and create a single installer. What I need to produce are multiple products/installers, all with similar functionality, which are built from the same set of assemblies but differ in the set of resources used by one of the assemblies. What's the best way of doing this? ------------ The 95% Solution ----------------- Based upon Daminen_the_unbeliever's answer, a resource file per configuration can be achieved as follows: Create a class library project ("Satellite"). Delete the default .cs file and add a folder ("Default") Create a resource file in the folder "MyResources" Properties - set CustomToolNamespace to something appropriate (e.g. "XXX") Make sure the access modifier for the resources is "Public". Add the resources. Edit the source code. Refer to the resources in your code as XXX.MyResources.ResourceName) Create Configurations for each product variant ("ConfigN") For each product variant, create a folder ("VariantN") Copy and Paste the MyResources file into each VariantN folder Unload the "Satellite" project, and edit the .csproj file For each "VariantN/MyResources" <Compile> or <EmbeddedResource> tag, add a Condition="'$(Configuration)' == 'ConfigN'" attribute. Save, Reload the .csproj, and you're done... This creates a per-configuration resource file, which can (presumably) be further localized. Compile error messages are produced for any configuration that where a a resource is missing. The resource files can be localized using the standard method (create a second resources file (MyResources.fr.resx) and edit .csproj as before). The reason this is a 95% solution is that resources used to initialize forms (e.g. Form Titles, button texts) can't be easily handled in the same manner - the easiest approach seems to be to overwrite these with values from the satellite assembly.

  • expanding/collapsing div using jQuery

    - by Hristo
    I'm trying to expand and collapse a <div> by clicking some text inside the <div>. The behavior right now is very odd. For example, if I click the text after the <div> is expanded... the <div> will collapse and then expand again. Also, if I click somewhere inside the div after it is expanded, it will collapse again, and I think that is because I'm triggering the animation since the <div> being animated is inside the wrapper <div>. Here's the code: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8"> <title>Insert title here</title> <!-- Links --> <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="style.css" /> <!-- Scripts --> <script type="text/javascript" src="jQuery.js"></script> <script> // document script $(function(){ // login box event handler $('#login').click(function() { $('#loginBox').toggle( function() { $('.loginBox').animate({ height: '150px' }, '1000' ); $('#username').show(); $('#password').hide(); $('#placeHolder').show(); }, function() { $('.loginBox').animate({ height: '50px' }, '1000' ); $('#username').hide(); $('#password').hide(); $('#placeHolder').hide(); } ); }); // username field focus and blur event handlers $('#username').focus(function() { if($(this).hasClass('placeHolder')){ $(this).val(''); $(this).removeClass('placeHolder'); } }); $('#username').blur(function() { if($(this).val() == '') { $(this).val('Username'); $(this).addClass('placeHolder'); } }); // password field focus and blur event handlers $('#placeHolder').focus(function() { $(this).hide(); $('#password').show(); $('#password').focus(); $('#password').removeClass('placeHolder'); }); $('#password').blur(function() { if($(this).val() == '') { $('#placeHolder').show(); $(this).hide(); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="loginBox" class="loginBox"> <a id="login" class="login">Proceed to Login</a><br /> <div> <form> <input type="text" id="username" class="placeHolder" value="Username" /> <input type="password" id="password" class="placeHolder" value="" /> <input type="text" id="placeHolder" class="placeHolder" value="Password" /> </form> </div> </div> </body> </html> Any ideas?   • jQuery: Any way to "refresh" event handlers?

    - by Legend
    I have two divs, one that holds some stuff and the other with all possible stuff. Clicking on one of the divs will transfer items to the other div. The code I came up with is: $("#holder > *").each(function() { $(this).click(function(e) { $(this).remove(); $("#bucket").append(this); }); }); $("#bucket > *").each(function() { $(this).click(function(e) { $(this).remove(); $("#holder").append(this); }); }); This one works perfectly, except that the event handlers need to be refreshed once I append or remove elements. What I mean is, if I first click on an element, it gets added to the other div, but if I click on this element again, nothing happens. I can do this manually but is there a better way to achieve this?

  • Getting an Ajax response from Zend Framework Controller

    - by JavaLava
    I'm doing an Ajax request on one of my views to a Controller but I am unable to send back a response to the Ajax method. In the snippet below, I am trying to send the word 'hellopanda' back but in the alert message, I'll get data as an object. View : $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "localhost/some-activity", data: dataString, success: function(data) { alert( "Data is: " + data); //do something with data }, error: function(data){ alert( "Data is: " + data); //do something with data }, onComplete: function(){ } }); Controller: public function someActivityAction(){ //do stuff echo "hellopanda"; } I'm pretty sure the echo is the problem. Any insights on to how to do a proper response to the view would be greatly appreciated.

  • Calling compiled C from R with .C()

    - by Sarah
    I'm trying to call a program (function getNBDensities in the C executable measurementDensities_out) from R. The function is passed several arrays and the variable double runsum. Right now, the getNBDensities function basically does nothing: it prints to screen the values of passed parameters. My problem is the syntax of calling the function: array(.C("getNBDensities", hr = as.double(hosp.rate), # a vector (s x 1) sp = as.double(samplingProbabilities), # another vector (s x 1) odh = as.double(odh), # another vector (s x 1) simCases = as.integer(x[c("xC1","xC2","xC3")]), # another vector (s x 1) obsCases = as.integer(y[c("yC1","yC2","yC3")]), # another vector (s x 1) runsum = as.double(runsum), # double DUP = TRUE, NAOK = TRUE, PACKAGE = "measurementDensities_out")$f, dim = length(y[c("yC1","yC2","yC3")]), dimnames = c("yC1","yC2","yC3")) The error I get, after proper execution of the function (i.e., the right output is printed to screen), is Error in dim(data) <- dim : attempt to set an attribute on NULL I'm unclear what the dimensions are that I should be passing the function: should it be s x 5 + 1 (five vectors of length s and one double)? I've tried all sorts of combinations (including sx5+1) and have found only seemingly conflicting descriptions/examples online of what's supposed to happen here. For those who are interested, the C code is below: #include <R.h> #include <Rmath.h> #include <math.h> #include <Rdefines.h> #include <R_ext/PrtUtil.h> #define NUM_STRAINS 3 #define DEBUG void getNBDensities( double *hr, double *sp, double *odh, int *simCases, int *obsCases, double *runsum ); void getNBDensities( double *hr, double *sp, double *odh, int *simCases, int *obsCases, double *runsum ) { #ifdef DEBUG for ( int s = 0; s < NUM_STRAINS; s++ ) { Rprintf("\nFor strain %d",s); Rprintf("\n\tHospitalization rate = %lg", hr[s]); Rprintf("\n\tSimulation probability = %lg",sp[s]); Rprintf("\n\tSimulated cases = %d",simCases[s]); Rprintf("\n\tObserved cases = %d",obsCases[s]); Rprintf("\n\tOverdispersion parameter = %lg",odh[s]); } Rprintf("\nRunning sum = %lg",runsum[0]); #endif } naive solution While better (i.e., potentially faster or syntactically clearer) solutions may exist (see Dirk's answer below), the following simplification of the code works: out<-.C("getNBDensities", hr = as.double(hosp.rate), sp = as.double(samplingProbabilities), odh = as.double(odh), simCases = as.integer(x[c("xC1","xC2","xC3")]), obsCases = as.integer(y[c("yC1","yC2","yC3")]), runsum = as.double(runsum)) The variables can be accessed in >out.

  • What are the differences in performance between synchronous and asynchronous JavaScript script loading?

    - by jasdeepkhalsa
    My question is simply: what are the differences in performance between synchronous and asynchronous JavaScript script loading? From what I've gathered synchronous code blocks the loading of a page and/or rest of the code from executing. This happens at two levels. First, at the level of the script actually loading, and secondly, within the JavaScript code itself. For example, on the page: Synchronous: <script src="demo_async.js" type="text/javascript"></script> Asynchronous: <script async src="demo_async.js" type="text/javascript"></script> And within a script: Synchronous: function a() {alert("a"); function b() {alert("b");}} Asynchronous (and self-executing): (function(a, function(b){ alert(b); }) { alert(a); }))(); So what really is the difference in performance from using these different loading methods and JavaScript patterns?

  • In Android, does _id have to be present in any table created?

    - by Andy
    I am trying to create a table to only has a foreign key, not a primary key. I am getting this error: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: column '_id' does not exist I read a tutorial that the primary key must be _id, with no explanation. And that is fine. But what if I do not want a primary key! What if I only want a foreign key. I am assuming this is where my problem lies. The schemas below are what I have. But the third one is where I assume this is coming from. database.execSQL("CREATE TABLE events (" + "_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, event_name TEXT" + ")"); database.execSQL("CREATE TABLE reminders(_id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, event_name TEXT" + ")"); database.execSQL("CREATE TABLE events_info (_id INTEGER, event_name TEXT, all_day INTEGER, " + "start_date INTEGER, start_time INTEGER, end_date INTEGER, end_time INTEGER," + " location TEXT, reminder_id INTEGER, notes TEXT, repeat TEXT," + "FOREIGN KEY(_id) REFERENCES events(_id), FOREIGN KEY(reminder_id) REFERENCES reminders(_id))" );

  • Should I use "User Defined Functions" in SQL server, or C#?

    - by sanity
    I have a fairly complicated mathematical function that I've been advised should be implemented as a User Defined Function in SQL Server so that it can be used efficiently from within a SQL query. The problem is that it must be very efficient as it may be executed thousands of times per second, and I subsequently heard that UDFs are very inefficient. Someone suggested that I could implement the function in C# instead, and that this would be much more efficient. What should I do?
