• Detect some conflictive characters in a string with javascript

  Hello. I have a file input in a form that uploads a mp3 file, but I´d like to detect conflictive characters to my system in the filename, like ! @ or any other. All codes I´ve found replace these characters, but I just want to detect them to alert the user. I think it will be easy with regular expressions, but I dont know about them. I´m using jquery/javascript. Thanks in advance for your help Edit to improve my problem description: I´m working in a CodeIgniter application that allows user to upload mp3 files to the server. I use jQuery to manage client side forms. The CI upload class converts spaces in the file name to underscores and everything works. But testing the application I uploaded a mp3 file with a (!) in the name, and I got troubles with it. I just want to insert a javascript conditional before the file is uploaded to evaluate if the user´s filename contains a (!) (or any other I´d like to add later) to ask for the file to be renamed if it does.

• What is the best way to structure those jquery call backs?

  I am new to jquery and recently have been amazed how powerful those call backs are. But here I got some logic and I am not sure what the best way is. Basically, I got a bunch of tables in web sql database in chrome. I will need to go through say table A, table B and table C. I need to submit each row of the table to server. Each row represents a bunch of complicated logic and data url and they have to be submitted in the order of A - B - C. The regular java way would be: TableA.SubmitToServer() { query table A; foreach(row in tableA.rows) { int nRetID = submitToServer(row); do other updates.... } } Similar for tableB and table C. then just call: TableA.SubmitToServer(); TableB.SubmitToServer(); TableC.SubmitToServer(); //that is very clear and easy. But in JQuery, it probably will be: db.Transaction(function (tx){ var strQuery = "select * from TableA"; tx.executeSql(strQuery, [], function (tx, result){ for(i = 0 ; i < result.rows.length; i++) { submitTableARowToServer(tx, result.rows.getItem(i), function (tx, result) { //do some other related updates based on this row from tableA //also need to upload some related files to server... }); } }, function errorcallback....) }); As you can see, there are already enough nested callbacks. Now, where should I put the process for TableB and tableC? They all need to have similar logic and they can only be called after everything is done from TableA. • Credit card validation with regexp using test()

  I'm trying to complete some homework and it appears the book might have gotten it wrong. I have a simple html page that allows user to pick a credit card in our case american express. The user then enters a number and evalutes that number based on a regular expression. My question ends up being when test() evaluates the number it returns a boolean or a string? I should then compare that string or boolean? True == true should fire off the code in a nested if statement. Heres what the book gives me as valid code: if(document.forms[0].cardName.value == "American Express") { var cardProtocol = new RegExp("^3[47][0-9]{13}$"); //REGEX ENTRY HERE if(cardProtocol.test(document.forms[0].cardNumber.value)) document.forms[0].ccResult.value = "Valid credit card number"; } The above code doesn't work in firefox. • Why can't my vector access the variables in my nested structs?

The first struct, struct record, is composed of 2 regular variables. In struct 2, I have a linked list of type "record", which includes all the variable listed in struct 1. Why is it that when ever I attempt to access a variable in the structs, using my vector, I get the error "linked list iterator not dereferencable?"

• "Error in the Site Data Web Service." when performing crawl

  Installed SharePoint Services v3 (SP2, october 2009 cumulative updates, Language Pack), attached to a content database I had previously (all works). Installed Search server 2008 Express (with language pack) on top of WSS and crawl does not work. However it works for newly created web application + database. Was playing around with accounts, permissions to try get it working. Currently I have WSS_Crawler account with such permissions: Office Search Server runs with WSS_Crawler account Config database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler Content database has read permissions for WSS_Crawler WSS_Crawler is owner of search database. Added WSS_Crawler to SQL server browser user group and administrator Yes, i'v given more permissions than needed, but it doesn't even work with that and i don't know if its permission problem or what. Crawl log says there is Error in the Site Data Web Service., nothing more. There were known issues with a similar error: Error in the Site Data Web Service. (Value does not fall within the expected range.), but this is not the case as thats an old issue and i hope it has been included in SP2... Logs are from olders to newest (descending order). They don't appear to be very helpful. • WinXP: Error 1167 -- Device (LPT1) not connected

  I am writing a program that opens LPT1 and writes a value to it. The WriteFile function is returning an error code of 1167, "The device is not connected". The Device Manager shows that LPT1 is present. I have a cable connected between a development board and the PC. The cable converts JTAG pin signals to signals on the parallel port. Power is applied and the cable is connected between the development board and the PC. The development board is powered on. I am using: Windows XP MS Visual Studio 2008, C language, console application, debug environment.   I use memcached in a untrust network, so I try to use sasl and pam to auth connection to memcached. I installed sasl and pam module, compiled and installed memcached with sasl enabled. Also I created db and table for pam user. But my python script cannot be authed, always authentication failed returned. • Weird "missing" CD/DVD driver during Windows Server 2008 installation

  Hi. We have an old PowerEdge 860 that we're trying to install Windows Server 2008 R2 onto. At present the machine doesn't have any OS installed, so we're doing a clean install from a DVD. Pretty simple stuff. The problem is that, although the installation process starts off well (asking for language and locale settings), as soon as we click "Install Now" we're told "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing." The operating system has already booted from our only DVD drive(!). I've seen other people complain about this problem (usually in relation to installing Vista or Windows 7) but I've not found a 100% solution yet. (Our DVD drive is a Hitachi LG GWA-4400N, salvaged from an old laptop. There have never been any drivers released for this device, nor any firmware updates.) The most promising lead I have is from someone claiming that Windows is actually asking for a driver for the ATAPI/IDE Controller here. UPDATE See my answer below... It was most likely a corrupt download. (*shame*) I will update this question when I know for sure.

• Screen scraping software that will traverse pages

  We're creating a mashup site that pulls information from many sources all over the web. Many of these sites don't provide RSS feeds or APIs to access the information they provide. This leaves us with screen scraping as our method for collecting the data. There are many scripting tools out there written in different scripting languages for screen scraping that require you to write scraping scripts in the language the scraper was written in. Scrapy, scrAPI, and scrubyt are a few written in Ruby and Python. There are other web-based tools I've seen like Dapper that create XML or RSS feeds based on a webpage. It has a beautiful web-based interface that requires no scripting skills to use. This would be a great tool, if it were able to traverse multiple pages to gather data from hundreds pages of results. We need something that will scrape information from paginated web sites, much like scrubyt, but with a user interface that a non-programmer could use. We'll script up our own solution if we need to, probably using scrubyt, but if there's a better solution out there, we want to use it. Does anything like this exist?

Potential Daemonizers--are daemonizers supposed to be language-specific or general?: forever (node-specific) daemonize nohup (presumably wrong) start-stop-daemon(debian-only? is this for daemonizing or starting/stopping? what is the Centos equivalent?) Should the app itself really know how to daemonize itself and then have a -d flag? (e.g. via node-daemonize2 or forever-monitor?) Service starters--should these be from the system/distro, or should they be from monitoring tools such as monit?: service? is really /etc/init.d on CentOS? service? is really Upstart on Ubuntu? monit? daemontools? runit?   I've tried to setup an EasyPHP in local and make it visible from the Web via DynDNS, which I've already successed many times before, but now this just doesn't work, maybe I've forgotten something... *The "server" is a common workstation. • ESXI 5.1 - Unable to trunk to cisco switch

  I have configured my esxi host vSwitch1 to use the secondary NIC on my VMware host. On vSwitch1 configuration I have set the VLAN to 4095 which specifies to allow all VLANs. If my cisco switch port configuration is set to an access port my server can ping the vlan interface on the switch. If my cisco switch port configuration is set to a trunk, whilst it stays UP UP and CDP information is available, I lose my ping from VMware VM server to the local vlan interface on the switch and I lose any server connectivity to my network. • Distributing a custom command line tool to enterprise servers

  I've been tasked with building a command line tool that we will be providing to our enterprise customers so that they can use the API to upload data to our platform. The API works with standard cURL requests, so I can do most of the basic functionality with simple bash scripting, although I would like to provide something that is solid and really makes it easy for them to use and I don't know what I don't know. It's been a good 8 years since I've really done any serious sysadmin work. Most of the good tools I use these days are written in Ruby or Python and have a standard distribution process (Gems, for example). However, I know rhel and other platforms have their own package managers. Finally, the question: In today's day and age, what language / distribution method should I consider in order to cover the widest range of platforms without having to build completely different versions for each platform? I'd also love any general feedback you have about building similar projects, or links to projects that you think do a good job of this now and have open source code that I could read. I've installed the WAIK, and I have my Windows 7 sources mounted as a virtual drive.   I have a local testing environment in a Fedora virtual machine. Strangely, resources (css and js files) don't seem to work. Looking at Firebug, I see that the browser sends the HTTP request with "Range bytes=0-". The server responds with either an empty 200OK or an empty 206 Partial Content. • Mail.app doesn't detect sender in Address Book

  Hi there. I don't understand, how does 'smart addresses' in Mail.app work. Recently I mentioned, that for some emails I don't see person's full name in 'From' column. I started to dig into this behavior and found out, that I have few contacts in my Address Book, that are not recognized by Mail.app. Here how it looks: I have a person in Address Book with filled email entry and filled first/last name (localized). I have an incoming email from that person (from email specified in Address Book), but first/last name in the email itself doesn't match with ones specified in Address Book (e. g. 'From' field in email looks like 'John [work] <[email protected]>' while Address Book entry is 'John Smith' (localized, in Russian)). And Mail.app doesn't recognize that this mail is originating from that person in Address Book: if I click on 'From' field, it suggests to me to add sender to Address Book, while for others' emails I have 'Show in Address Book' menu entry (especially for ones with full localized name in 'From' field). I'm wondering, is that behavior correct or I'm missing something? I'm using Snow Leopard & Mail 4.0; my system language set to English, if that matters. I'd like to have some clarifications on that Mail.app behavior: whenever it fixable or not (and if it's fixable, I'd like to see a fix). By the way, is it possible to match sender's address against Address Book entry in filter rules or not? That would be great, if I can create rules like 'move all mail from that person to that folder' without specifying exact source address. Thanks, Ivan.

The language in the error message ("Add correct host key") suggests that there should be some way to add the correct host key without removing the old one. I have not been able to figure out how to add the new host key without removing the old one. Is this possible, or is the error message just extremely misleading?

  I am running an email server on 77.245.64.44 and have recently started to have problems with remote delivery of emails sent using this server. Only about 5% of recipients are rejecting the emails, but they all share the following common message... Remote host said: 554 Your access to this mail system has been rejected due to the sending MTA's poor reputation. As far as I can tell my server is not on any blacklists, and it is set up correctly (the reverse DNS checks out and so on). I'm not even sure what the "Sending MTA" is, but I assume it's my server. If anyone could shed any light on this I'd really appreciate it! Here's the full bounce message...
