  • Algorithm for heat map?

    I have a list of values each with latitude and longitude. I'm looking to create a translucent heatmap image to overlay on Google Maps. I know there are server side and flash based solutions already, but I want to build this in javascript using the canvas tag. However, I can't seem to find a concise description of the algorithm used to turn coordinates and values into a heatmap. Can anyone provide or link to one? Thanks.

  • Please help me understand why my XSL Transform is not transforming

    I'm trying to transform one XML format to another using XSL. Try as I might, I can't seem to get a result. I've hacked away at this for a while now and I've had no success. I'm not even getting any exceptions. I'm going to post the entire code and hopefully someone can help me work out what I've done wrong. I'm aware there are likely to be problems in the xsl I have in terms of selects and matches, but I'm not fussed about that at the moment. The output I'm getting is the input XML without any XML tags. The transformation is simply not occurring.   • Resizing QT's QTextEdit to Match Text Height: maximumViewportSize()

    I am trying to use a QTextEdit widget inside of a form containing several QT widgets. The form itself sits inside a QScrollArea that is the central widget for a window. My intent is that any necessary scrolling will take place in the main QScrollArea (rather than inside any widgets), and any widgets inside will automatically resize their height to hold their contents. I have tried to implement the automatic resizing of height with a QTextEdit, but have run into an odd issue. I created a sub-class of QTextEdit and reimplemented sizeHint() like this: QSize OperationEditor::sizeHint() const { QSize sizehint = QTextBrowser::sizeHint(); sizehint.setHeight(this->fitted_height); return sizehint; } this-fitted_height is kept up-to-date via this slot that is wired to the QTextEdit's "contentsChanged()" signal: void OperationEditor::fitHeightToDocument() { this->document()->setTextWidth(this->viewport()->width()); QSize document_size(this->document()->size().toSize()); this->fitted_height = document_size.height(); this->updateGeometry(); } The size policy of the QTextEdit sub-class is: this->setSizePolicy(QSizePolicy::MinimumExpanding, QSizePolicy::Preferred); I took this approach after reading this post. Here is my problem: As the QTextEdit gradually resizes to fill the window, it stops getting larger and starts scrolling within the QTextEdit, no matter what height is returned from sizeHint(). If I initially have sizeHint() return some large constant number, then the QTextEdit is very big and is contained nicely within the outer QScrollArea, as one would expect. However, if sizeHint gradually adjusts the size of the QTextEdit rather than just making it really big to start, then it tops out when it fills the current window and starts scrolling instead of growing. I have traced this problem to be that, no matter what my sizeHint() returns, it will never resize the QTextEdit larger than the value returned from maximumViewportSize(), which is inherited from QAbstractScrollArea. Note that this is not the same number as viewport()-maximumSize(). I am unable to figure out how to set that value. Looking at QT's source code, maximumViewportSize() is returning "the size of the viewport as if the scroll bars had no valid scrolling range." This value is basically computed as the current size of the widget minus (2 * frameWidth + margins) plus any scrollbar widths/heights. This does not make a lot of sense to me, and it's not clear to me why that number would be used anywhere in a way that supercede's the sub-class's sizeHint() implementation. Also, it does seem odd that the single "frameWidth" integer is used in computing both the width and the height. Can anyone please shed some light on this? I suspect that my poor understanding of QT's layout engine is to blame here.

  • Android CheckBox -- Restoring State After Screen Rotation

    I have come across some very unexpected (and incredibly frustrating) functionality while trying to restore the state of a list of CheckBoxes after a screen rotation. I figured I first would try to give a textual explanation without the code, in case someone is able to determine a solution without all the gory details. If anyone needs more details I can post the code. I have a scrolling list of complex Views that contain CheckBoxes. I have been unsuccessful in restoring the state of these check boxes after a screen rotation. I have implemented onSaveInstanceState and have successfully transfered the list of selected check boxes to the onCreate method. This is handled by passing a long[] of database ids to the Bundle. In onCreate() I check the Bundle for the array of ids. If the array is there I use it to determine which check boxes to check when the list is being built. I have created a number of test methods and have confirmed that the check boxes are being set correctly, based on the id array. As a last check I am checking the states of all check boxes at the very end of onCreate(). Everything looks good... unless I rotate the screen. When I rotate the screen, one of two things happens: 1) If any number of the check boxes are selected, except for the last one, all check boxes are off after a rotation. 2) If the last check box is checked before rotation, then all check boxes are checked after rotation. Like I said, I check the state of the boxes at the very end of my onCreate(). The thing is, the state of the boxes at the end of onCreate is correct based on what I selected before the rotation. However, the state of the boxes on the screen does not reflect this. In addition, I have implemented each check box's setOnCheckChangedListener() and I have confirmed that my check boxes' state's are being altered after my onCreate method returns. Anyone have an idea of what is going on? Why would the state of my check boxes change after my onCreate method returns? Thanks in advance for your help. I have been trying to degub this for a couple days now. After I found that my check boxes were apparently changing somewhere outside my own code I figured it was time to ask around.

  • WPF FlowDocument: force calculation of height etc. "off screen"

    My target: a DocumentPaginator which takes a FlowDocument with a table, which splits the table to fit the pagesize and repeat the header/footer (special tagged TableRowGroups) on every page. For splitting the table I have to know the heights of its rows. While building the FlowDocument-table by code, the height/width of the TableRows are 0 (of course). If I assign this document to a FlowDocumentScrollViewer (PageSize is set), the heights etc. are calculated. Is this possible without using an UI-bound object? Instantiating a FlowDocumentScrollViewer which is not bound to a window doesn't force the pagination/calculation of the heights.   • Best tool for developing CSS positioning code

    What's the best way to develop CSS, in particular if it will play a role in formatting the page, etc. Is this best done by hand or with a particular editor? If by hand, how would you know the values needed to specify the positioning? If a tool is best, can VS2008/2010 do the job, or are there better alternatives.
