  • Can I resolve ASP.NET "~" app paths to the website root without a Control being present?

    I want to Resolve "~/whatever" from inside non-Page contexts such as Global.asax (HttpApplication), HttpModule, HttpHandler, etc. but can only find the Resolution methods specific to Controls (and Page). I think the app should have enough knowledge to be able to map this outside the Page context. No? Or at least it makes sense to me it should be resolvable in other circumstances, wherever the app root is known. Update: The reason being I'm sticking ~ paths in the web.configuration files. Update 2: I'm trying to resolve them to the website root such as Control.Resolve(..) URL does, not to a file system path.

How can I close the popup window once the file download has completed? I need some way to detect that the file download has completed so I can call self.close() to close this popup.   • How do I access a asp.net session variable from APP_CODE??

    I have seen lots of posts here and elsewhere stating that one can access session variables from app_code. I want to access an already created session. this code errors out because of a null exception. string myFile = HttpContext.Current.Session["UploadedFile"]; this creates a null session variable. System.Web.SessionState.HttpSessionState Session = HttpContext.Current.Session; It looks like I can create a new session variable but not access an already created one. Anyone have any idea what might be giving me problems?

    I think I summed up the question in the title. Here is some further elaboration... I have a web user control that is used in multiple places, sometimes more than once on a given page. The web user control has a specific set of JavaScript functions (mostly jQuery code) that are containted within *.js files and automatically inserted into page headers. However, when I want to use the control more than once on a page, the *.js files are included 'n' number of times and, rightly so, the browser gets confused as to which control it's meant to be executing which function on. What do I need to do in order to resolve this problem? I've been staring at this all day and I'm at a loss. All comments greatly appreciated. Jason

  • Unable to use stored procs in a generic repository for the entity framework. (ASP.NET MVC 2)

    Hi, I have a generic repository that uses the entity framework to manipulate the database. The original code is credited to Morshed Anwar's post on CodeProject. I've taken his code and modified is slightly to fit my needs. Unfortunately I'm unable to call an Imported Function because the function is only recognized for my specific instance of the entity framework public class Repository<E, C> : IRepository<E, C>, IDisposable where E : EntityObject where C : ObjectContext { private readonly C _ctx; public ObjectResult<MyObject> CallFunction() { // This does not work because "CallSomeImportedFunction" only works on // My object. I also cannot cast it (TrackItDBEntities)_ctx.CallSomeImportedFunction(); // Not really sure why though... but either way that kind of ruins the genericness off it. return _ctx.CallSomeImportedFunction(); } } Anyone know how I can make this work with the repository I already have?     If I want to inject a globally scoped array variable into a page's client-side javascript during a full page postback, I can use: this.Page.ClientScript.RegisterArrayDeclaration("WorkCalendar", "\"" + date.ToShortDateString() + "\""); to declare and populate a client-side javascript array on the page. Nice and simple. But I want to do the same from a async postback from an UpdatePanel. The closest I can figure so far is to create a .js file that just contains the var declaration, update the file during the async postback, and then use a ScriptManagerProxy.Scripts.Add to add the .js file to the page's global scope. Is there anything simpler? r iz doin it wrong?

    In my MVC apps I normally declare a base view type that all of my views inherit from. I get a parser error when I specify Inherits="MyView" in my Page declaration, but not if I specify Inherits="MyApp.Web.Views.MyView". Strangely enough, it also works fine if I specify Inherits="MyView<T> (where T is any valid type). Why can I specify a strongly typed view without the full type name, but not a generic view?   • How to select an element by Class instead of ID in ASP.NET?

    I have a few scatter elements which I am grouping together using a class like so - . In my code behind, using C# I want to hide these elements, using something like instructions.Visible = false;. However I realize I can only do this in codebehind if I use ID but this will result in invalid HTML/CSS Selector since you can't have multiple ID's with the same ID name... Alternatively is there another way to group the controls if not by class?

  • "Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" running .NET app in virtual XP mac

    I've written a few winform apps in .net 2.0 which won't run in a virtual XP (running from VirtualBox). I get the error "unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application" (.NET Framework Initialization Error). I've tried fixing the installation of .net and also installing v3.5. I think it's probably a security issue rather than a framework problem, but i'm running under an administrator account. Other .net apps (2.0) run ok, so it might be a strong name/signing problem. I've tried compiling them completely unsigned and also delay signing them with a key and turning on verification skipping with the sn tool. help greatly appreciated!

    Linq to SQL creates objects which are IQueryable and full of relations. Html Helpers require specific interface objects like IEnumerable<SelectListItem>. What I think could happen: Reuse the objects from Linq to SQL without all the baggage, i.e., return Pocos from the Linq to SQL objects without additional Domain Model classes? Extract objects that easily convert to (or are) Html helper objects like the SelectListItem enumeration? Is there any way to do this without breaking separation of concerns? Some neat oop trick to bridge the needs? For example, if this were within a repository, the SelectListItem wouldn't be there. The select new is a nice way to cut out an object from the Linq to SQL without the baggage but it's still referencing a class that shouldn't be referenced: IEnumerable<SelectListItem> result = (from record in db.table select new SelectListItem { Selected = record.selected, Text= record.Text, Value= record.Value } ).AsEnumerable();

But to let the user know the hierarchy of the categories, I need to display them in the following style: parent category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 1 parent category 1-sub category 1-sub-sub category 2 parent category 1-sub category 2 Parent category 2 ... I know that to achieve this I need to use recursive programming. But how can we do it via stored procedures? That would be much more efficient, right? Thanks in advance for your kind help.

    This is working, but how??? I have a controller action for a post: [AcceptVerbs(HttpVerbs.Post )] public ActionResult Edit(Person person) { bool isvalid = ModelState.IsValid; etc. The Person object has a property BirthDate, type DateTime. When i enter some invalid data in the form, say 'blabla' which is obvious not a valid Datetime, it fills all the (other) Person properties with the correct data and the BirthDate property with a new blank DateTime. The bool isvalid has the value 'false'. So far so good. Then i do this: return View(p); and in the view i have this: <%= Html.TextBox("BirthDate", String.Format("{0:g}", Model.BirthDate)) %> <%= Html.ValidationMessage("BirthDate", "*") %> Ant there it comes: i EXPECTED the model to contain the new, blank DateTime because i didn't put any new data in. Second, when the View displays something, it must be a DateTime, because Model.BirthDate can't hold anything but a DateTime. But to my surprise, it shows a textbox with the 'blabla' value! (and the red * behind it) Which ofcourse is nice because the user can seee what he typed wrong, but how can that (blabla)string be transferred to the View in a DateTime field?
