  • LWJGL SlickUtil Texture Binding

    - by Matthew Dockerty
    I am making a 3D game using LWJGL and I have a texture class with static variables so that I only need to load textures once, even if I need to use them more than once. I am using Slick Util for this. When I bind a texture it works fine, but then when I try to render something else after I have rendered the model with the texture, the texture is still being bound. How do I unbind the texture and set the rendermode to the one that was in use before any textures were bound? Some of my code is below. The problem I am having is the player texture is being used in the box drawn around the player after it the model has been rendered. Model.java public class Model { public List<Vector3f> vertices = new ArrayList<Vector3f>(); public List<Vector3f> normals = new ArrayList<Vector3f>(); public ArrayList<Vector2f> textureCoords = new ArrayList<Vector2f>(); public List<Face> faces = new ArrayList<Face>(); public static Model TREE; public static Model PLAYER; public static void loadModels() { try { TREE = OBJLoader.loadModel(new File("assets/model/tree_pine_0.obj")); PLAYER = OBJLoader.loadModel(new File("assets/model/player.obj")); } catch (Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public void render(Vector3f position, Vector3f scale, Vector3f rotation, Texture texture, float shinyness) { glPushMatrix(); { texture.bind(); glColor3f(1, 1, 1); glTranslatef(position.x, position.y, position.z); glScalef(scale.x, scale.y, scale.z); glRotatef(rotation.x, 1, 0, 0); glRotatef(rotation.y, 0, 1, 0); glRotatef(rotation.z, 0, 0, 1); glMaterialf(GL_FRONT, GL_SHININESS, shinyness); glBegin(GL_TRIANGLES); { for (Face face : faces) { Vector2f t1 = textureCoords.get((int) face.textureCoords.x - 1); glTexCoord2f(t1.x, t1.y); Vector3f n1 = normals.get((int) face.normal.x - 1); glNormal3f(n1.x, n1.y, n1.z); Vector3f v1 = vertices.get((int) face.vertex.x - 1); glVertex3f(v1.x, v1.y, v1.z); Vector2f t2 = textureCoords.get((int) face.textureCoords.y - 1); glTexCoord2f(t2.x, t2.y); Vector3f n2 = normals.get((int) face.normal.y - 1); glNormal3f(n2.x, n2.y, n2.z); Vector3f v2 = vertices.get((int) face.vertex.y - 1); glVertex3f(v2.x, v2.y, v2.z); Vector2f t3 = textureCoords.get((int) face.textureCoords.z - 1); glTexCoord2f(t3.x, t3.y); Vector3f n3 = normals.get((int) face.normal.z - 1); glNormal3f(n3.x, n3.y, n3.z); Vector3f v3 = vertices.get((int) face.vertex.z - 1); glVertex3f(v3.x, v3.y, v3.z); } texture.release();   • DDWRT or similar as repeater in a network.

    - by Quantumplation
    I have a friend with sever connection issues due to her wireless router being on the bottom floor of her house, and the computer being a story or two away. I have several old Linksys routers lying about, one of which is currently running DDWRT for my network. Would it be a good idea (effective) to configure one of these routers as a wireless bridge of some kind in an intermediary floor to improve her connection? Is there any specific configuration beyond the standard DDWRT setup that I would need to do? Thanks for your help. =)

  • Is Joel Test really a good gauging tool?

    - by henry
    I just learned about Joel Test. I have been computer programmer for 22 years, but somehow never heard about it before. I consider my best job so far to be this small investment managing company with 30 employees and only 3 people in IT department. I am no longer with them but I had being working there for 5 years – my longest streak with any given company. To my surprise they scored extremely poor on Joel Test. The only two questions I would answer “yes” are #4: Do you have a bug database? And #9: Do you use the best tools money can buy? Everything else is either “sometimes” or straight “no”. Here is what I liked about the company however: a) Good pay, they bragged about it to my face and I bragged about it to their face, so it was almost like a family environment. b) I always knew big picture. When writing a code to solve particular problem there were no ambiguity about the business nature of that problem. Even though we did not always had written specs we could ask business users a question anytime, often yelling it across the floor. I could even talk to executives any time I felt like doing it: no appointment necessary. c) Immediate feedback. Once we implement a solution and make business users happy they immediately let us know that, we (programmers) become heroes of the moment. d) No red tape. I could always buy any tools I deem necessary, and design solutions the way my professional judgment dictates. e) Flexibility. If I had mid-day dental appointment that is near my house rather than near the office, I would send email to the company: "FYI: I work from home today". As long as one of 3 IT guys was on the floor (to help traders in case their monitors go dark) they did not care where 2 others are. So the question thus becomes how valuable Joel Test is? Why bother with it?

  • Rotating a view of a chunked 2d tilemap

    - by Danie Clawson
    I'm working on a top-down (oblique) tile-based engine. I would like for the tiles to have a definable height in the world, with Characters being occluded by them, etc. This has led to a desire to be able to "rotate" the view of the world, even though I'm using all hand-drawn graphics and blitting. Therefor, I need to rotate the actual world itself, or change how the Camera traverses these arrays. How can, or should, I create individual rotations of 90 degrees, when I have multi-dimensional arrays? Is it faster to actually rotate the array, to access it differently, or to create pre-computed accessor(?) arrays, something like how my chunks work? How can I rotate an individual chunk, or set of chunks? Currently I establish my tile grid like this (tile height not included): function Surface(WIDTH, HEIGHT) { WIDTH = Math.max(WIDTH-(WIDTH%TPC), TPC); HEIGHT = Math.max(HEIGHT-(HEIGHT%TPC), TPC); this.tiles = []; this.chunks = []; //Establish tiles for(var x = 0; x < WIDTH; x++) { var col = [], ch_x = Math.floor(x/TPC); if(!this.chunks[ch_x]) this.chunks.push([]); for(var y = 0; y < HEIGHT; y++) { var tile = new Tile(x, y), ch_y = Math.floor(y/TPC); if(!this.chunks[ch_x][ch_y]) this.chunks[ch_x].push([]); this.chunks[ch_x][ch_y].push(tile); col.push(tile); } this.tiles.push(col); } }; Even some basic advice on my data struct would be much appreciated.

  • Windows unrecoverable error wouldn't come out of Hibernate

    - by JohnB
    Out of curiosity... I was in a rush: I put my laptop into Hibernate (I don't keep a battery in it btw) Leaned it against a box in the laundry room Smooth tile floor means bottom of laptop slide out and laptop feel flat against floor, not super hard, but it wasn't carpeting so.. Next time I booted my laptop, I received this error for the first time ever: (not an exact quote) Windows experienced an unrecoverable error and cannot come out of Hibernate. Windows is restarting now After that, my laptop seemed to operate flawlessly. What do you think happened? Jared the electronics? I'm guessing an error like this would result of some sort of hard drive trauma, but fortunately, I have discovered none so far. I scheduled Error-checking for next restart.

  • From simple physics with a ball, to a more complicated shape

    - by Maximus
    Hello fellow game devs and stack overflowers... I recently made a transition from OpenGL ES 1.1 to 2.0 (on Android via NDK) and things are going well so far. I'm working on doing a dice rolling application (gaming dice up to 20 sided, not just regular 6 sided die) as a way to learn more about how physics is implemented in a gaming environment. I've explored implementing existing engine options (such as Bullet) and I don't think I need to implement something quite so sophisticated. I've found several tutorials that handle a lot of the general physics involved with initial trajectory, velocity, angle of contact and reflection angle, etc. I'm confident that I'd be able to implement ball-like behavior without much trouble. My question lies in when I attempt to make the interaction of the die shape with another surface more "realistic," for example... the die strikes the floor surface at such an angle where only one corner makes contact with the floor. In my mind, the center of gravity of the object would play a part in determining how the die bounces away, possibly even spinning it it faster, etc... but I am not sure what the actual math involved is. Are there any recommended resources for getting into this level of detail? Initial searches haven't turned up much... Thanks to everyone in the community, -Jeremiah

  • Simple collision detection for pong

    - by Dave Voyles
    I'm making a simple pong game, and things are great so far, but I have an odd bug which causes my ball (well, it's a box really) to get stuck on occasion when detecting collision against the ceiling or floor. It looks as though it is trying to update too frequently to get out of the collision check. Basically the box slides against the top or bottom of the screen from one paddle to the other, and quickly bounces on and off the wall while doing so, but only bounces a few pixels from the wall. What can I do to avoid this problem? It seems to occur at random. Below is my collision detection for the wall, as well as my update method for the ball. public void UpdatePosition() { size.X = (int)position.X; size.Y = (int)position.Y; position.X += speed * (float)Math.Cos(direction); position.Y += speed * (float)Math.Sin(direction); CheckWallHit(); } // Checks for collision with the ceiling or floor. // 2*Math.pi = 360 degrees // TODO: Change collision so that ball bounces from wall after getting caught private void CheckWallHit() { while (direction > 2 * Math.PI) { direction -= 2 * Math.PI; } while (direction < 0) { direction += 2 * Math.PI; } if (position.Y <= 0 || (position.Y > resetPos.Y * 2 - size.Height)) { direction = 2 * Math.PI - direction; } }

  • Simple monitoring of a Raspberry Pi powered screen - Part 2

    - by Chris Houston
    If you have read my previous blog post Raspberry Pi entrance signed backed by Umbraco - Part 1 which describes how we used a Raspberry Pi to drive an Entrance sign for QV Offices you will have seen I mentioned a follow up post about monitoring the sign.As the sign is mounted in the entrance of the building on the ground floor and the reception is on the 1st floor, this meant that if there was a fault of any kind showing on the screen, the first person to see this was inevitably one of QV Offices' clients as they walked into the building.Although the QV Offices' team were able to check the Umbraco website address that the sign uses, this did not always mean that everything was working as expected. We noticed a couple of times that the sign had Wifi issues (it is now hard wired) and this caused the Chromium browser to render a 404 error when it tried to refresh the screen.The simple monitoring solutionWe added the following line to our refresh script, so that after the sign had been refreshed a screen shot of the Raspberry Pi would be taken:import -display :0 -window root ~/screenshot.jpgFinally we wrote a small Crontab task that ran on a QV Offices Mac that grabs this screen shot and saved it on the desktop, admittedly we have used a package that it not mega secure, but in reality this is an internal system that only runs an office sign, so we are not to concerned about it being hacked.*/5 * * * * /usr/local/bin/sshpass -p 'password' /usr/bin/scp [email protected]:screenshot.jpg Desktop/QVScreenShot.jpgAs the file icon updates, if the image changes, this gives a quick visual indication of the status of the sign, if for some reason the icon does not look correct the QV Offices administrator can just click on the file to see the exact image currently displayed on the sign.Sometimes a quick and easy solution is better than a more complex and expensive one.

  • Inverted LACK Table Serves as a Perfect Gear Rack [DIY]

    - by Jason Fitzpatrick
    We’ve seen IKEA gear hacked to hold audio and computer gear before, but this mod adds in a simple and effective twist. LACK end tables are, conveniently, the same width as a standard server rack. This makes it super simple for DIYers to mount their gear right into the legs of the table with no modification necessary. In this case, however, Winston Smith included a clever update to the mod. Rather than leave it like a standard table, he flipped the table upside down for increased stability and a stronger connection between the legs of his improvised audio rack and the table-top-turned-floor-plate. He then finished it with a matching LACK shelf piece to serve as a turn-table stand. His gear is stored cleanly, off the floor, and in a sturdy container all for about $25–a definite bargain when it comes to storage racks. Hit up the link below for more information and pictures. • How do I prevent my platformer's character from clipping on wall tiles?

    - by Jonathan Hobbs
    Currently, I have a platformer with tiles for terrain (graphics borrowed from Cave Story). The game is written from scratch using XNA, so I'm not using an existing engine or physics engine. The tile collisions are described pretty much exactly as described in this answer (with simple SAT for rectangles and circles), and everything works fine. Except when the player runs into a wall whilst falling/jumping. In that case, they'll catch on a tile and begin thinking they've hit a floor or ceiling that isn't actually there. The player is moving right and falling downwards. So after movement, collisions are checked - and first, it turns out the player character is colliding with the tile 3rd from the floor, and pushed upwards. Second, he's found to be colliding with the tile beside him, and pushed sideways - the end result being the player character thinks he's on the ground and isn't falling, and 'catches' on the tile for as long as he's running into it. I could solve this by defining the tiles from top to bottom instead, which makes him fall smoothly, but then the inverse case happens and he'll hit a ceiling that isn't there when jumping upwards against the wall. How should I approach resolving this, so that the player character can just fall along the wall as it should?

  • How to scroll hex tiles?

    - by Chris Evans
    I don't seem to be able to find an answer to this one. I have a map of hex tiles. I wish to implement scrolling. Code at present: drawTilemap = function() { actualX = Math.floor(viewportX / hexWidth); actualY = Math.floor(viewportY / hexHeight); offsetX = -(viewportX - (actualX * hexWidth)); offsetY = -(viewportY - (actualY * hexHeight)); for(i = 0; i < (10); i++) { for(j = 0; j < 10; j++) { if(i % 2 == 0) { x = (hexOffsetX * i) + offsetX; y = j * sourceHeight; } else { x = (hexOffsetX * i) + offsetX; y = hexOffsetY + (j * sourceHeight); } var tileselected = mapone[actualX + i][j]; drawTile(x, y, tileselected); } } } The code I've written so far only handles X movement. It doesn't yet work the way it should do. If you look at my example on jsfiddle.net below you will see that when moving to the right, when you get to the next hex tile along, there is a problem with the X position and calculations that have taken place. It seems it is a simple bit of maths that is missing. Unfortunately I've been unable to find an example that includes scrolling yet. http://jsfiddle.net/hd87E/1/ Make sure there is no horizontal scroll bar then trying moving right using the - right arrow on the keyboard. You will see the problem as you reach the end of the first tile. Apologies for the horrid code, I'm learning! Cheers

  • How to determine the end of list has been reached?

    - by Sweta Dwivedi
    I'm trying to animate my object according to a set of recorded values from kinect skeleton stream by saving the (x,y,z) stream from the skeletal data into a list and then set my objects x and y position from the x,y of the list. However, once the list end has been reached it starts to animate again from the start. I don't want that - I just want the model position to keep going in the positive X direction. Is there any way I can check if end of the list has been reached and to just update the model position in x direction? Or is there any other way to continue moving my sprite once the points in the list are over... i dont want it to start animating all the way again.. protected override void Update(GameTime gameTime) { //position += spriteSpeed * (float)gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalSeconds; //// TODO: Add your update logic here using (StreamReader r = new StreamReader(f)) { string line; Viewport view = graphics.GraphicsDevice.Viewport; int maxWidth = view.Width; int maxHeight = view.Height; while((line = r.ReadLine()) != null) { string[] temp = line.Split(','); int x = (int) Math.Floor(((float.Parse(temp[0]) * 0.5f) + 0.5f) * maxWidth); int y = (int) Math.Floor(((float.Parse(temp[1]) * -0.5f) + 0.5f) * maxHeight); motion_2.Add(new Point(x, y)); } } position.X = motion_2[i].X; position.Y = motion_2[i].Y; i++; a_butterfly_up.Update(gameTime); a_butterfly_side.Update(gameTime); G_vidPlayer.Play(mossV); base.Update(gameTime); }

  • Are VLANs necessary for my environment?

    - by kleefaj
    Greetings. I'm the new network manager for a school. I've inherited an environment made up of several Windows servers, about 100 Windows clients, ten printers, one Cisco router, six Cisco switches, and 1 HP switch. Also, we're using VoIP. There are four floors in our building. The hosts on each floor are assigned to a separate VLAN. An office on the first floor has its own VLAN. All the switches are on their own VLAN. The IP phones are on their own VLAN. And the servers are on their own VLAN. For the number of hosts on the network, are all these VLANs really buying me anything? I'm new to the VLAN concept but it seems overly complicated for this environment. Or it's genius and I just don't get it. Any thoughts? Thanks, Jeff

  • Collision Detection Problems

    - by MrPlosion
    So I'm making a 2D tile based game but I can't quite get the collisions working properly. I've taken the code from the Platformer Sample and implemented it into my game as seen below. One problem I'm having is when I'm on the ground for some strange reason I can't move to the left. Now I'm pretty sure this problem is from the HandleCollisions() method because when I stop running it I can smoothly move around with no problems. Another problem I'm having is when I'm close to a tile the character jitters very strangely. I will try to post a video if necessary. Here is the HandleCollisions() method: Thanks. void HandleCollisions() { Rectangle bounds = BoundingRectangle; int topTile = (int)Math.Floor((float)bounds.Top / World.PixelTileSize); int bottomTile = (int)Math.Ceiling((float)bounds.Bottom / World.PixelTileSize) - 1; int leftTile = (int)Math.Floor((float)bounds.Left / World.PixelTileSize); int rightTile = (int)Math.Ceiling((float)bounds.Right / World.PixelTileSize) - 1; isOnGround = false; for(int x = leftTile; x <= rightTile; x++) { for(int y = topTile; y <= bottomTile; y++) { if(world.Map[y, x].Collidable == true) { Rectangle tileBounds = new Rectangle(x * World.PixelTileSize, y * World.PixelTileSize, World.PixelTileSize, World.PixelTileSize); Vector2 depth = RectangleExtensions.GetIntersectionDepth(bounds, tileBounds); if(depth != Vector2.Zero) { if(Math.Abs(depth.Y) < Math.Abs(depth.X)) { isOnGround = true; position = new Vector2(position.X, position.Y + depth.Y); } else { position = new Vector2(position.X + depth.X, position.Y); } bounds = BoundingRectangle; } } } }

  • Could a singleton type replace static methods and classes?

    - by MKO
    In C# Static methods has long served a purpose allowing us to call them without instantiating classes. Only in later year have we became more aware of the problems of using static methods and classes. They can’t use interfaces They can’t use inheritance They are hard to test because you can’t make mocks and stubs Is there a better way ? Obviously we need to be able to access library methods without instantiated classes all the time otherwise our code would become pretty cluttered One possibly solution is to use a new keyword for an old concept: the singleton. Singleton’s are global instances of a class, since they are instances we can use them as we would normal classes. In order to make their use nice and practical we'd need some syntactic sugar however Say that the Math class would be of type singleton instead of an actual class. The actual class containing all the default methods for the Math singleton is DefaultMath, which implements the interface IMath. The singleton would be declared as singleton Math : IMath { public Math { this = new DefaultMath(); } } If we wanted to substitute our own class for all math operations we could make a new class MyMath that inherits DefaultMath, or we could just inherit from the interface IMath and create a whole new Class. To make our class the active Math class, you'd do a simple assignment Math = new MyMath(); and voilá! the next time we call Math.Floor it will call your method. Note that for a normal singleton we'd have to write something like Math.Instance.Floor but the compiler eliminates the need for the Instance property Another idea would be to be able to define a singletons as Lazy so they get instantiated only when they're first called, like lazy singleton Math : IMath What do you think, would it have been a better solution that static methods and classes? Is there any problems with this approach?

  • What could cause a sudden stop in Box2D?

    - by alexanderpine
    I'm using Box2d for a game, and I have a bug that's driving me nuts. I've simplified the situation down to a square player sliding back and forth frictionlessly on top of a floor composed of a series of square tiles, driven by the left and right keys (which apply a horizontal force). Works great, sliding back and forth across the whole floor. Except... Every once in a while, the player will suddenly stick at the edge of one of the tiles as if it is hitting a (nonexistent) wall. Further pushes in the same direction it was traveling will fail, but as soon as I push backwards once in the opposite direction, I can push forwards past the sticking point again. The sticking point seems to be random, except for being on the edge of a tile. Happens while going left or right. For debugging purposes, I keep the Positions/velocity values for the previous two update ticks and print them out when this stop occurs. As an example, here you see the player moving right, decelerating slightly; pos2 should be about 8.7, but it stops dead instead. tick0: pos= 8.4636 vel= 7.1875 tick1: pos= 8.5816 vel= 7.0833 tick2: pos= 8.5816 vel= 0.0000 So, as the player is 0.8 and the tiles 1.0 wide, the player is stopping just as it is about to cross onto the next tile (8.5816 + 0.8/2 = 8.9816). In fact, I get a collision message (which I ignore except noting that it happened). It only seems to happen at x.5816 (or -x.4184) while moving right, and x.4167 (or -x.5833) while moving left I said that it's like hitting a wall, but in fact, when it hits a wall, the numbers look more like: tick0: pos0= 12.4131 vel2= 8.4375 tick1: pos1= 12.5555 vel1= 8.5417 tick2: pos2= 12.5850 vel0= 0.0000 so it moves further right on the last tick, which puts it in contact with the wall. Anyone seen anything like this. Any suggestion on how I could be causing this behavior.

  • FAQ: GridView Calculation with JavaScript - Displaying Quantity Total

    - by Vincent Maverick Durano
    Previously we've talked about how calculate the sub-totals and grand total in GridView here, how to format the numbers into a currency format and how to validate the quantity to just accept whole numbers using JavaScript here. One of the users in the forum (http://forums.asp.net) is asking if how to modify the script to display the quantity total in the footer. In this post I'm going to show you how to it. Basically we just need to modify the javascript CalculateTotals function and add the codes there for calculating the quantity total and display it in the footer. Here are the code blocks below:   <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" > <head runat="server"> <title></title> <script type="text/javascript"> function CalculateTotals() { var gv = document.getElementById("<%= GridView1.ClientID %>"); var tb = gv.getElementsByTagName("input"); var lb = gv.getElementsByTagName("span"); var sub = 0; var total = 0; var indexQ = 1; var indexP = 0; var price = 0; var qty = 0; var totalQty = 0; for (var i = 0; i < tb.length; i++) { if (tb[i].type == "text") { ValidateNumber(tb[i]); price = lb[indexP].innerHTML.replace("$", "").replace(",", ""); sub = parseFloat(price) * parseFloat(tb[i].value); if (isNaN(sub)) { lb[i + indexQ].innerHTML = "0.00"; sub = 0; } else { lb[i + indexQ].innerHTML = FormatToMoney(sub, "$", ",", "."); ; } indexQ++; indexP = indexP + 2; if (isNaN(tb[i].value) || tb[i].value == "") { qty = 0; } else { qty = tb[i].value; } totalQty += parseInt(qty); total += parseFloat(sub); } } lb[lb.length - 2].innerHTML = totalQty; lb[lb.length - 1].innerHTML = FormatToMoney(total, "$", ",", "."); } function ValidateNumber(o) { if (o.value.length > 0) { o.value = o.value.replace(/[^\d]+/g, ''); //Allow only whole numbers } } function isThousands(position) { if (Math.floor(position / 3) * 3 == position) return true; return false; }; function FormatToMoney(theNumber, theCurrency, theThousands, theDecimal) { var theDecimalDigits = Math.round((theNumber * 100) - (Math.floor(theNumber) * 100)); theDecimalDigits = "" + (theDecimalDigits + "0").substring(0, 2); theNumber = "" + Math.floor(theNumber); var theOutput = theCurrency; for (x = 0; x < theNumber.length; x++) { theOutput += theNumber.substring(x, x + 1); if (isThousands(theNumber.length - x - 1) && (theNumber.length - x - 1 != 0)) { theOutput += theThousands; }; }; theOutput += theDecimal + theDecimalDigits; return theOutput; } </script> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:gridview ID="GridView1" runat="server" ShowFooter="true" AutoGenerateColumns="false"> <Columns> <asp:BoundField DataField="RowNumber" HeaderText="Row Number" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Description" HeaderText="Item Description" /> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Item Price"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="LBLPrice" runat="server" Text='<%# Eval("Price","{0:C}") %>'></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <FooterTemplate> <b>Total Qty:</b> </FooterTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Quantity"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:TextBox ID="TXTQty" runat="server" onkeyup="CalculateTotals();"></asp:TextBox> </ItemTemplate> <FooterTemplate> <asp:Label ID="LBLQtyTotal" runat="server" Font-Bold="true" ForeColor="Blue" Text="0" ></asp:Label>&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <b>Total Amount:</b> </FooterTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Sub-Total"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="LBLSubTotal" runat="server" ForeColor="Green" Text="0.00"></asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> <FooterTemplate> <asp:Label ID="LBLTotal" runat="server" ForeColor="Green" Font-Bold="true" Text="0.00"></asp:Label> </FooterTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> </Columns> </asp:gridview> </form> </body> </html>   Here's the output below when you run it on the page: I hope someone find this post useful!   • Efficient Way to Draw Grids in XNA

    - by sm81095
    So I am working on a game right now, using Monogame as my framework, and it has come time to render my world. My world is made up of a grid (think Terraria but top-down instead of from the side), and it has multiple layers of grids in a single world. Knowing how inefficient it is to call SpriteBatch.Draw() a lot of times, I tried to implement a system where the tile would only be drawn if it wasn't hidden by the layers above it. The problem is, I'm getting worse performance by checking if it's hidden than when I just let everything draw even if it's not visible. So my question is: how to I efficiently check if a tile is hidden to cut down on the draw() calls? Here is my draw code for a single layer, drawing floors, and then the tiles (which act like walls): public void Draw(GameTime gameTime) { int drawAmt = 0; int width = Tile.TILE_DIM; int startX = (int)_parent.XOffset; int startY = (int)_parent.YOffset; //Gets the starting tiles and the dimensions to draw tiles, so only onscreen tiles are drawn, allowing for the drawing of large worlds int tileDrawWidth = ((CIGame.Instance.Graphics.PreferredBackBufferWidth / width) + 4); int tileDrawHeight = ((CIGame.Instance.Graphics.PreferredBackBufferHeight / width) + 4); int tileStartX = (int)MathHelper.Clamp((-startX / width) - 2, 0, this.Width); int tileStartY = (int)MathHelper.Clamp((-startY / width) - 2, 0, this.Height); #region Draw Floors and Tiles CIGame.Instance.GraphicsDevice.SetRenderTarget(_worldTarget); CIGame.Instance.GraphicsDevice.Clear(Color.Black); CIGame.Instance.SpriteBatch.Begin(); //Draw floors for (int x = tileStartX; x < (int)MathHelper.Clamp(tileStartX + tileDrawWidth, 0, this.Width); x++) { for (int y = tileStartY; y < (int)MathHelper.Clamp(tileStartY + tileDrawHeight, 0, this.Height); y++) { //Check if this tile is hidden by layer above it bool visible = true; for (int i = this.LayerNumber; i <= _parent.ActiveLayer; i++) { if (this.LayerNumber != (_parent.Layers - 1) && (_parent.GetTileAt(x, y, i + 1).Opacity >= 1.0f || _parent.GetFloorAt(x, y, i + 1).Opacity >= 1.0f)) { visible = false; break; } } //Only draw if visible under the tile above it if (visible && this.GetTileAt(x, y).Opacity < 1.0f) { Texture2D tex = WorldTextureManager.GetFloorTexture((Floor)_floors[x, y]); Rectangle source = WorldTextureManager.GetSourceForIndex(((Floor)_floors[x, y]).GetTextureIndexFromSurroundings(x, y, this), tex); Rectangle draw = new Rectangle(startX + x * width, startY + y * width, width, width); CIGame.Instance.SpriteBatch.Draw(tex, draw, source, Color.White * ((Floor)_floors[x, y]).Opacity); drawAmt++; } } } //Draw tiles for (int x = tileStartX; x < (int)MathHelper.Clamp(tileStartX + tileDrawWidth, 0, this.Width); x++) { for (int y = tileStartY; y < (int)MathHelper.Clamp(tileStartY + tileDrawHeight, 0, this.Height); y++) { //Check if this tile is hidden by layers above it bool visible = true; for (int i = this.LayerNumber; i <= _parent.ActiveLayer; i++) { if (this.LayerNumber != (_parent.Layers - 1) && (_parent.GetTileAt(x, y, i + 1).Opacity >= 1.0f || _parent.GetFloorAt(x, y, i + 1).Opacity >= 1.0f)) { visible = false; break; } } if (visible) { Texture2D tex = WorldTextureManager.GetTileTexture((Tile)_tiles[x, y]); Rectangle source = WorldTextureManager.GetSourceForIndex(((Tile)_tiles[x, y]).GetTextureIndexFromSurroundings(x, y, this), tex); Rectangle draw = new Rectangle(startX + x * width, startY + y * width, width, width); CIGame.Instance.SpriteBatch.Draw(tex, draw, source, Color.White * ((Tile)_tiles[x, y]).Opacity); drawAmt++; } } } CIGame.Instance.SpriteBatch.End(); Console.WriteLine(drawAmt); CIGame.Instance.GraphicsDevice.SetRenderTarget(null); //TODO: Change to new rendertarget instead of null #endregion } So I was wondering if this is an efficient way, but I'm going about it wrongly, or if there is a different, more efficient way to check if the tiles are hidden. EDIT: For example of how much it affects performance: using a world with three layers, allowing everything to draw no matter what gives me 60FPS, but checking if its visible with all of the layers above it gives me only 20FPS, while checking only the layer immediately above it gives me a fluctuating FPS between 30 and 40FPS.

    Hi All, I have the below line of codes $day1 = new Zend_Date('2010-03-01', 'YYYY-mm-dd'); $day2 = new Zend_Date('2010-03-05', 'YYYY-mm-dd'); $dateDiff = $day2->getDate()->get(Zend_Date::TIMESTAMP) - $day1->getDate()->get(Zend_Date::TIMESTAMP); $days = floor((($dateDiff / 60) / 60) / 24); return $days; this will return 4 But if gave $day1 = new Zend_Date('2010-02-28', 'YYYY-mm-dd'); $day2 = new Zend_Date('2010-03-01', 'YYYY-mm-dd'); $dateDiff = $day2->getDate()->get(Zend_Date::TIMESTAMP) - $day1->getDate()->get(Zend_Date::TIMESTAMP); $days = floor((($dateDiff / 60) / 60) / 24); return $days; it will return -27 .. how will i get right answer

  • Gateway Page Between ASP and an ASP.NET Page

    - by ajdams
    I'll admit, I am pretty new with ASP .NET programming and I have been asked to take all our gateway pages (written in classic ASP) and make one universal gateway page to the few C# .NET applications we have (that I wrote). I tried searching here and the web and couldn't find much of anything describing a great way to do this and figured I was either not searching properly or was not properly naming what I am trying to do. I decided to to take one of the main gateway pages we had in classic ASP and use that as a base for my new gateway. Without boring you with a bunch of code I will summarize my gateway in steps and then can take advice/critique from there. EDIT: Basically what I am trying to do is go from a classic ASP page to a ASP .NET page and then back again. EDIT2: If my question is still unclear I am asking if what I have an the right start and if anyone has suggestions as to how this could be better. It can be as generic as need-be, not looking for a specific off-the-shelf code answer. My Gateway page: In the first part of the page I grab session variables and determine if the user is leaving or returning through the gateway: Code (in VB): uid = Request.QueryString("GUID") If uid = "" Then direction = "Leaving" End If ' Gather available user information. userid = Session("lnglrnregid") bankid = Session("strBankid") ' Return location. floor = Request.QueryString("Floor") ' The option chosen will determine if the user continues as SSL or not. ' If they are currently SSL, they should remain if chosen. option1 = Application(bankid & "Option1") If MID(option1, 6, 1) = "1" Then sslHttps = "s" End If Next I enter the uid into a database table (SQL-Server 2005) as a uniqueidentifier field called GUID. I omitted the stored procedure call. Lastly, I use the direction variable to determine if the user is leaving or returning and do redirects from there to the different areas of the site. Code (In VB again): If direction = "Leaving" Then Select Case floor Case "sscat", "ssassign" ' A SkillSoft course Response.Redirect("Some site here") Case "lrcat", "lrassign" ' A LawRoom course Response.Redirect("Some site here") Case Else ' Some other SCORM course like MindLeaders or a custom upload. Response.Redirect("Some site here") End Select Session.Abandon Else ' The only other direction is "Returning" ..... That's about it so far - so like I said, not an expert so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • bash bcmath functions

    - by Gordon
    I have two functions for GNU bc in a Bash script. BC_CEIL="define ceil(x) { if (x>0) { if (x%1>0) return x+(1-(x%1)) else return x } else return -1*floor(-1*x) }\n" BC_FLOOR="define floor(x) { if (x>0) return x-(x%1) else return -1*ceil(-1*x) }\n" echo -e "scale=2"$BC_CEIL$BC_FLOOR"ceil(2.5)" | bc Both functions work fine in interactive bc. bc does not seem to allow multiple functions on one line separated by ; though, so I have to echo -n | bc with newlines at the end of each function. The above output is 2.5, not the expected 3.0 that I get if I type it into bc -i myself. It seems that bash calls bc for each line of echo output, rather than echo'ing it all to a single instance. Is there any workaround for this?

  • How to create Query syntax for multiple DataTable for implementing IN operator of Sql Server

    - by Shantanu Gupta
    I have fetched 3-4 tables by executing my stored procedure. Now they resides on my dataset. I have to maintain this dataset for multiple forms and I am not doing any DML operation on this dataset. Now this dataset contains 4 tables out of which i have to fetch some records to display data. Data stored in tables are in form of one to many relationship. i.e. In case of transactions. N records per record. Then these N records are further mapped to M records of 3rd table. Table 1 MAP_ID GUEST_ID DEPARTMENT_ID PARENT_ID PREFERENCE_ID -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- -------------------- 19 61 1 1 5 14 61 1 5 15 15 61 2 4 10 18 61 2 13 23 17 61 2 20 26 16 61 40 40 41 20 62 1 5 14 21 62 1 5 15 22 62 1 6 16 24 62 2 3 4 23 62 2 4 9 27 62 2 13 23 25 62 2 20 24 26 62 2 20 25 28 63 1 1 5 29 63 1 1 8 34 63 1 5 15 30 63 2 4 10 33 63 2 4 11 31 63 2 13 23 32 63 40 40 41 35 65 1 NULL 1 36 65 1 NULL 1 38 68 2 13 22 37 68 2 20 25 39 68 2 23 27 40 92 1 NULL 1 Table 2 Department_ID Department_Name Parent_Id Parent_Name -------------------- ----------------------- --------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1 Food 1, 5, 6 Food, North Indian, South Indian 2 Lodging 3, 4, 13, 20, 23 Room, Floor, Non Air Conditioned, With Balcony, Without Balcony 40 New 40 SubNew TABLE 3 Parent_Id Parent_Name Preference_ID Preference_Name -------------------- ----------------------------------------------- ----------------------- ------------------- NULL NULL NULL NULL 1 Food 5, 8 North Indian, Italian 3 Room 4 Floor 4 Floor 9, 10, 11 First, Second, Third 5 North Indian 14, 15 X, Y 6 South Indian 16 Dosa 13 Non Air Conditioned 22, 23 With Balcony, Without Balcony 20 With Balcony 24, 25, 26 Mountain View, Ocean View, Garden View 23 Without Balcony 27 Mountain View 40 New 41 SubNew I have these 3 tables that are related in some fashion like this. Table 1 will be the master for these 2 tables i.e. table 2 and table 3. I need to query on them as SELECT Department_Id, Department_Name, Parent_Name FROM Table2 WHERE Department_Id in ( SELECT Department_Id FROM Table1 WHERE guest_id=65 ) SELECT Parent_Id, Parent_Name, Preference_Name FROM Table3 WHERE PARENT_ID in ( SELECT parent_id FROM Table1 WHERE guest_id=65 ) Now I need to use these queries on DataTables. So I am using Query Syntax for this and reached up to this point. var dept_list= from dept in DtMapGuestDepartment.AsEnumerable() where dept.Field<long>("PK_GUEST_ID")==long.Parse(63) select dept; This should give me the list of all departments that has guest id =63 Now I want to select all departments_name and parent_name from Table 2 where guest_id=63 i.e. departments that i fetched above. This same case will be followed for Table3. Please suggest how to do this. Thanks for keeping up patience for reading my question.

  • PHP + Code Igniter Timecode Calculation Logic Error

    - by Tim
    Hello everyone, I have what I suspect to be a logic problem with an algorithm I am using to work with Video timecode in PHP. All help is appreciated. The Objective Well basically I want to work with timecode and perform calculations For those not familiar with timecode it looks like this 01:10:58:12 or HH:MM:SS:FF 'AKA' HOURS:MINUTES:SECONDS:FRAMES I have used the script from HERE to help me with working with this format. The Problem Now can i just say that this script works!!! Timecode calculations (in this case additions) are being performed correctly. However this script continually throws the following errors, yet still produces the correct output when I try and do the following calculation 00:01:26:00 + 00:02:00:12 The errors from this calculation are shown below A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Notice Message: Undefined index: key Filename: staff/tools.php Line Number: 169 A PHP Error was encountered Severity: Notice Message: Undefined index: key Filename: staff/tools.php Line Number: 169 Line Number 169 is in the parseInput() function // feed it into the tc array $i=0; foreach ($tc AS $key=>$value) { if ( is_numeric($array["$i"]) ) { $tc["$key"]= $array["$i"]; if ($tc["$key"] < 10 && $tc["$key"] > 0 && strlen($tc['key'])==1 ) $tc["$key"]= "0".$tc["$key"]; } $i++; } return $tc; Now I should also mention that the number of times the above error is thrown depends on what I am calculating 00:00:00:00 + 00:00:00:00 returns no errors. 01:01:01:01 + 02:02:02:02 produces 8 of the above errors. For your reference, here is the code in it's entirety function add_cue_sheet_clips_process() { $sheetID = $_POST['sheet_id']; $clipName = $_POST['clip_name']; $tcIn = $_POST['tc_in']; $tcOut = $_POST['tc_out']; // string $input // returns an associative array of hours, minutes, seconds, and frames // function parseInput ($input) { // timecode should look something like hh:mm:ss;ff // allowed separators are : ; . , // values may be single or double digits // hours are least-significant -- 5.4 == 00:00:05;04 $tc= array("frames"=>"00", "seconds"=>"00", "minutes"=>"00", "hours"=>"00"); $punct= array(":", ";", ".", ","); // too big? too small? $input= trim($input); if (strlen($input)>11 || $input=="") { // invalid input, too long -- bzzt return $tc; } // normalize punctuation $input= str_replace( $punct, ":", $input); // blow it up and reverse it so frames come first $array= explode(":", $input); $array= array_reverse($array); // feed it into the tc array $i=0; foreach ($tc AS $key=>$value) { if ( is_numeric($array["$i"]) ) { $tc["$key"]= $array["$i"]; if ($tc["$key"] < 10 && $tc["$key"] > 0 && strlen($tc['key'])==1 ) $tc["$key"]= "0".$tc["$key"]; } $i++; } return $tc; } // array $tc // returns a float number of seconds // function tcToSec($tc) { $wholeseconds= ($tc['hours']*3600) + ($tc['minutes'] * 60) + ($tc['seconds']); $partseconds= ( $tc['frames'] / 25 ); $seconds= $wholeseconds + $partseconds; return $seconds; } // float $seconds // bool $subtract // returns a timecode array // function secToTc ($seconds=0, $subtract=0) { $tc= array("frames"=>"00", "seconds"=>"00", "minutes"=>"00", "hours"=>"00"); $partseconds= fmod($seconds, 1); $wholeseconds= $seconds - $partseconds; // frames if ($subtract==1) $tc['frames']= floor( $partseconds * 25 ); else $tc['frames']= floor( $partseconds * 25 ); // hours $tc['hours']= floor( $wholeseconds / 3600 ); $minsec= ($wholeseconds - ($tc['hours'] * 3600)); // minutes $tc['minutes']= floor( $minsec / 60 ); // seconds $tc['seconds']= ( $minsec - ($tc['minutes'] * 60) ); // padding foreach ( $tc AS $key=>$value ) { if ($value > 0 && $value < 10) $tc["$key"]= "0".$value; if ($value=="0") $tc["$key"]= "00"; } return $tc; } // array $tc // returns string of well-formed timecode // function tcToString (&$tc) { return $tc['hours'].":".$tc['minutes'].":".$tc['seconds'].";".$tc['frames']; } $timecodeIN = parseInput($tcIn); $timecodeOUT = parseInput($tcOut); // normalized inputs... $tc1 = tcToString($timecodeIN); $tc2 = tcToString($timecodeOUT); // get seconds $seconds1 = tcToSec($timecodeIN); $seconds2 = tcToSec($timecodeOUT); $result = $seconds1 + $seconds2; $timecode3 = secToTc($result, 0); $timecodeDUR = tcToString($timecode3); $clipArray = array('clip_name' => $clipName, 'tc_in' => $tcIn, 'tc_out' => $tcOut, 'tc_duration' => $timecodeDUR); $this->db->insert('tools_cue_sheets_clips', $clipArray); redirect('staff/tools/add_cue_sheet_clips/'.$sheetID); } I hope this is enough information for someone to help me get on top of this, I would be extremely greatful. Thanks, Tim

  • Jagged Edge Arrays in PHP

    - by chriscct7
    I want to store some data in (I guess a semi-2, semi-3d array) in PHP (5.3) What I need to do is store data about each floor like this: Floor Num of Spots Handicap Motorcyle Other 1 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) 2 100 array(15,16,17) array (47,62) array (99,100) and on The problem is, is if the Handicap+Motorcyle+Other were ints, I could just store the data in a 2d array. However, they aren't. So I was thinking I could make something almost like a 3D array, with the first two columns only being in 2D. The other thought I had was making a 2D array and for columns 3,4, and 5 instead of saving as array(15,16) //save like 1516 And then split at two digits (1 digit array numbers would be prefaced with a 0). However, I am wondering about the limit of the length of a string, because if I decide to move to a 3 digit length number in the array, like array(100, 104), and I need to store alot of numbers, I am thinking I am going to quickly exceed the max.
