    I was involved in designing and implementing an ASP.Net application some time ago. After we deployed the application we wanted to monitor various aspects of the application. We can use the Performance Monitor. In my windows Server 2008 machine, I go to Start-Run and type " perfmon " and the Performance monitor window pops up.   • Can I commit changes to actual database while debugging C# in Visual Studio?

    I am creating a C# application using Visual Studio that uses an SQLExpress database. When I hit f5 to debug the application and make changes to the database I believe what is happening is there is a copy of the database in the bin/debug folder that changes are being made to. However, when I stop the debugging and then hit f5 the next time a new copy of the database is being put in the bin/debug folder so that all the changes made the last time are gone. My question is: Is there a way that when I am debugging the application I can have it make changes to the actual database and those changes are actually saved or will it only make changes to the copy in the bin/debug folder (if that is what is actually happening)? I've seen similar questions, but I couldn't find an answer that said if it's possible to make those changes persistent in the actual .mdf file. The reason I ask is because as I build this application I am continuously adding pieces and testing to make sure they all work together. When I put in test data I am using actual data that I would like to stay in the database. This would just help me not have to reenter the data later. Thanks in advance for any help or information that could help me better understand the process.

    i'm currently in the process of creating a Windows 8 applicaiton using SharpDX (the managed c# directx wrapper). However I have ran into problems with one of my shaders and I want to know if its possible to debug such applications. PIX doesn't seem to work of directX apps as the executable does not like opening directly, and the new visual studio graphics debugging toolkit in VS2012 always states "unable to start the experiment" when I try to capture any information about my session.     I'm reading a book that recommends clicking a check box that says "Place code in separate file" when adding a new Web Form to an existing ASP.NET project. The book is using Visual Studio 2005 and there is a check box for "Place code in separate file" when you open the "Add New Item" dialog. I am using Visual Studio 2008 and I do not see the "Place code in separate file" checkbox when I try to add a new item. Is there something I need to do to enable this? Was this functionality no longer possible/important in VS 2008?

  • Visual Studio 2008 Unexpected Error on Project Checkout with VSS 2005

    I've encountered an odd misbehavior of VS 2008's integration with Visual Source Safe 2005. Situation occurs when I fire up VS2008 when a project is checked out to someone else, and later they check the project back in, while I still hold the VS2008 open. If I at that time add a new item, VS2008 tells me that my action has caused a check out of the project and a new version has been loaded from source control. Fair enough, but thereafter I get an error dialog stating "Visual Studio has encountered an unexpected error" with OK at every subsequent action, such as save file and search text, making it almost unusable. This is overcome by closing VS (which pops the error dialog once more) and restarting. Is there some kind of fix or workaround to this (besides the obvious ones: "don't try to check out the project when it's checked out to someone else", or "get latest version if you think the other person may have checked the project back in")?

  • Setting up nHibernate with an Oracle database and Visual Studio 2010

    I'm creating a .ASPNET project and I would like to setup nHibernate as my ORM tool. I will be using an existing oracle database and Visual Studio 2010. ORM tools are very new to me and really could use any advice to better understand the tool and the process required to implement them. I've been following an article at http://nhforge.org/wikis/howtonh/your-first-nhibernate-based-application.aspx to learn about it and am stuck where they say to create a local database as mine only give me the option to create a SQL server database (perhaps this a new for visual studio 2010?). Is the purpose of this database just to cache results from the live database? Thanks for your help! Geoff

  • Tools for Debugging ThreadPool Issues in Visual Studio 2010.

    I have never spent much time debugging multithreaded .NET apps (or others), and have quite a simple one to solve very quickly. Ideally I would imagined and would lurve to be able to intercept thread creation and use by worker objects, so that nothing unexpected happens while I'm on a breakpoint in my thread. Is that realistic? What else is there in VS 2010?

  • Would installing debugging symbols help for reporting bugs?

    I'm running a beta version of Ubuntu (12.10) and I've been reporting crashes through apport's automated system. I've glanced at the stacktraces for a couple of the issues and noticed a lot of what look like hex addresses and these: "No symbol table info available." I was wondering if installing the debugging symbols packages from synaptic would provide better information to package maintainers when I report bugs. In other words, would the stacktrace be more useful if I installed those packages? If so, would installing those packages make any (noticeable) performances differences (will my computer run slower)?   • Visual studio 2010 remote debugging is very slow (across domains, over vpn)

    Overall debugging works, but each step through code takes dosens of seconds. I've already closed all additional windows like stack trace,watches,autos; deleted all breakpoints. server and dev machine are located in different domains, so i set up local user on both, with matching password. remote debugger is running as service. looking at security log, I found quite a lot of entries about remote debugging account logging in (record about every minute). Any suggestions on how i can speed up remote debugging? dev computer: quad core, 8 Gb mem, win 7 x64 , visual studio 2010 ultimate target server: asp.net website , 2xdual core xeon, 2Gb mem, remote debugger 2010 communication channel: vpn , 5 mbit , latency about 20ms. (seems that debbugging never uses more than 20 kb/s)

  • Visual Studio detaches from application as soon as debugging starts

    I have a web application that I've always been able to run in Visual Studio and it debugs just fine (breakpoints work, I can pause execution, etc). Recently, the behavior changed suddenly, and a few things happen: I start debugging, it lauches IE and loads the application, but after a few seconds (sometimes the page hasn't even displayed yet), Visual Studio acts as if debugging has stopped - I'm able to edit code in VS again, and the "Play" button on the toolbar is enabled. The application continues to run in the IE window just spawned, but I'm not attached to it During this few seconds that VS is "debugging", because it detaches, my breakpoints show as hollow - as if I'm set to "Release" mode and they won't be hit. In fact, I have a breakpoint set in Page_Load, and it skips right by. I've checked, and I'm set to debug mode, though the compile mode dropdown is missing from my toolbar (I checked in the build properties to ensure I was in debug mode). Can anybody shed some light here?

This states, it is not included in Professional edition: http://www.microsoft.com/visualstudio/en-us/products However, for VS 2008, there was separate download of Team Explorer and it was posible also for Professional version. Is this changed for VS 2010?
