• Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one). • Taking 2 attributes from XElement to create a dictionary LINQ

  I'm trying to take one attribute to use as the key, and another to use as the value. If I use (xDoc is an XDocument object in the example): Dictionary<string, XElement> test = xDoc.Descendants() .Where<XElement>(t => t.Name == "someelement") .ToDictionary<XElement, string>(t => t.Attribute("myattr").Value.ToString()); I get a dictionary with the myattr value as key (which is what I want) but the entire XElement object as the value. What I want to do, is to select a second attribute to set as the value property on each dictionary item, but can't seem to figure that out. Is it possible to do all of this in 1 Linq statement? • .focus() doesn't work on an input while orher attributes works

  I have a classic table / thead / tbody structure, which I add a line at the end of the tbody. The line contains only an input element. The code works in Firefox 3.6 but not in Chrome v5 or IE8. I'm using jQuery 1.4.1. Does not work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').focus(); Does work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').css('background-color', 'red'); even setting an ID on the input, and using document.getElementBuId('id').focus() doesn't work. • How to stop attributes from being pickled in Python

  I am using gnosis.xml.pickle to convert an object of my own class to xml. The object is initialized so that: self.logger = MyLogger() But when I do dump the object to a string I get an exception stating that the pickler encountered an unpickleable type . Is there a way to 'tag' the logger attribute so that pickler will know not to try and pickle that attribute?

• Rails, making certain multiparameter attributes optional?

  Is there a method already part of Rails for making certain parameters option when part of a multiparameter attribute, for example say I'm prompting a user for their birthday, when saved the has may look like this: "birthday(2i)"=>"8", "birthday(3i)"=>"17", "birthday(1i)"=>"1980"}, ... But the issue arises when say I want to allow the user to just provide their month and day, making the year optional, how would this work being a datetime object, I'm assuming you can't do this as a date object... but any ideas would be helpful.   I have a model that would look something like: my_diet = Diet.new my_diet.food_type_1 = "beef" my_diet.food_type_1_percentage = 40 my_diet.food_type_2 = "carrots" my_diet.food_type_2_percentage = 50 my_diet.food_type_3 = "beans" my_diet.food_type_3_percentage = 5 my_diet.food_type_4 = "chicken" my_diet.food_type_4_percentage = 5 I need to find which food_type has the highest percentage. So far I've tried creating a hash out of the attibutes and percentages then sorting the hash (see below) but it feels like there must be a cleaner way to do it. food_type_percentages = { :food_type_1 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_1_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_1_percentage, :food_type_2 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_2_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_2_percentage, :food_type_3 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_3_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_3_percentage, :food_type_4 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_4_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_4_percentage } food_type_percentages.sort {|a,b| a[1]<=>b[1]}.last Any ideas?   I am creating a cube with the following tables: Customer CustomerID, Name Customer Rep CustomerID, RepID Rep RepID, Name The important thing here is that there is a many to many relationship between Reps and Customers. I want to be able to ask the question "How much sales for customers working with rep 'A'?" In the data source view i set up the relationships between both customerid columns and both repid columns. I set up the rep attribute in the dimension builder and when I try to build the cube I get this error: Errors in the high-level relationship engine. the 'Rep' table that is required for a join cannot be reached based on the relationships in the data source view.

  I've got a model with its validations, and I found out that I can't update an attribute without validating the object before. I already tried to add on => :create syntax at the end of each validation line, but I got the same results.   I have a sentence and correction model class Sentence < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :correction class Correction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :sentence and I'm trying find all sentences which don't have a correction. To do this I'm simply looking for corrections which don't exist i.e. whose id = nil. But it is failing and i can't figure out why Sentence.find :all, :include => :correction, :conditions => {:correction => {:id => nil}} Perhaps its the syntax or maybe just the overall approach. Can anyone help?

  Hi, for some odd reason the text area I have in my site won't accept the width I tell it to, I've tried to select it three times in the CSS just to make sure!   I'm working on a few animations with jQuery. I have 3-4 elements which should slide in from the top.   Hi all, I have a Sites table that has columns name, and time. The name does not have to be unique. So for example I may have the entries 'hi.com, 5', 'hi.com, 10', 'bye.com, 4'. I would like to sum up all the unique sites so that i get 'hi.com, 15' and 'bye.com, 4' for plotting purposes. How can I do that? (For some reference I was looking at http://railscasts.com/episodes/223-charts but I couldn't get the following (translated to my table) to work def self.total_on(date) where("date(purchased_at) = ?", date).sum(:total_price) end nor do I really understand the syntax of the 'where("date(purchased_at) = ?", date)' part. • How to point a subdomain to local server with dynamic IP

  I see there are many related questions to this one, however the answers given seem to be a little vague for a novice like me. I've got a dedicated LAMP stack running Fedora 16 locally on my home network. Everything works fine internally. I can access the Apache server from other machines on the network using the internal IP in a browser. I'm using the stack for a local file server as well as a development environment for websites. There are a couple of reasons why I would like the development sites hosted on the machine to be available publicly. 1.) I use a CMS that has paid add-ons which allows you to assign the paid license to a domain. I can't develop with paid add-ons on the closed dev server. 2.) I would occasionally like for clients to be able to view the site dev at late stages before it goes live. I have a domain (foo.com, and I want to point a *sub*domain (dev.foo.com) to the local server. I know this is best accomplished with a Static IP, however my IP from my ISP is Dynamic and I don't think there is any way to change that. From what I have read, services like ZoneEdit & DynDNS are supposed to be able to accomplish this, but I have tried both and found it very confusing. Also the server is behind a router and I have also read that you need to set up DDNS(?) in your router, that many routers have presets for these services, and I've found that DynDNS is the only one my router seems to support.

  For the last few months, I've been using a server on my home network for basic backups and hosting some small websites. Up until this past week, I've been using Comcast (cable) as an ISP and now that I've moved into an apartment, I'm using AT&T. (DSL) I've set up dynamic DNS and I can verify it works externally. However, I can't seem to access the public address from within the local network. Is there something DSL does differently from Cable that makes this frustration possible?

• XML Serialization in C# without XML attribute nodes

  Hello, I have an XML document format from a legacy system that I have to support in a future application. I want to be able to both serialize and deserialize the XML between XML and C# objects, however, using the objects generated by xsd.exe, the C# serialization includes the xmlns:xsi..., xsi:... etc XML attributes on the root element of the document that gets generated. Is there anyway to disable this so that absolutely no XML attribute nodes get put out in the resulting XML ? The XML document should be elements only. Duplicate? XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces
