  • How to trace a function array argument in DTrace

    - by uejio
    I still use dtrace just about every day in my job and found that I had to print an argument to a function which was an array of strings.  The array was variable length up to about 10 items.  I'm not sure if the is the right way to do it, but it seems to work and is not too painful if the array size is small.Here's an example.  Suppose in your application, you have the following function, where n is number of item in the array s.void arraytest(int n, char **s){    /* Loop thru s[0] to s[n-1] */}How do you use DTrace to print out the values of s[i] or of s[0] to s[n-1]?  DTrace does not have if-then blocks or for loops, so you can't do something like:    for i=0; i<arg0; i++        trace arg1[i]; It turns out that you can use probe ordering as a kind of iterator. Probes with the same name will fire in the order that they appear in the script, so I can save the value of "n" in the first probe and then use it as part of the predicate of the next probe to determine if the other probe should fire or not.  So the first probe for tracing the arraytest function is:pid$target::arraytest:entry{    self->n = arg0;}Then, if I want to print out the first few items of the array, I first check the value of n.  If it's greater than the index that I want to print out, then I can print that index.  For example, if I want to print out the 3rd element of the array, I would do something like:pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 2/{    printf("%s",stringof(arg1 + 2 * sizeof(pointer)));}Actually, that doesn't quite work because arg1 is a pointer to an array of pointers and needs to be copied twice from the user process space to the kernel space (which is where dtrace is). Also, the sizeof(char *) is 8, but for some reason, I have to use 4 which is the sizeof(uint32_t). (I still don't know how that works.)  So, the script that prints the 3rd element of the array should look like:pid$target::arraytest:entry{    /* first, save the size of the array so that we don't get            invalid address errors when indexing arg1+n. */    self->n = arg0;}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 2/{    /* print the 3rd element (index = 2) of the second arg. */    i = 2;    size = 4;    self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);    printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));}If your array is large, then it's quite painful since you have to write one probe for every array index.  For example, here's the full script for printing the first 5 elements of the array:#!/usr/sbin/dtrace -spid$target::arraytest:entry{        /* first, save the size of the array so that we don't get           invalid address errors when indexing arg1+n. */        self->n = arg0;}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 0/{        i = 0;        size = sizeof(uint32_t);        self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);        printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 1/{        i = 1;        size = sizeof(uint32_t);        self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);        printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 2/{        i = 2;        size = sizeof(uint32_t);        self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);        printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 3/{        i = 3;        size = sizeof(uint32_t);        self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);        printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));}pid$target::arraytest:entry/self->n > 4/{        i = 4;        size = sizeof(uint32_t);        self->a_t = copyin(arg1+size*i,size);        printf("%s: a[%d]=%s",probefunc,i,copyinstr(*(uint32_t *)self->a_t));} If the array is large, then your script will also have to be very long to print out all values of the array.

  • Why am I getting 'Argument count mismatch' error here?

    - by Leon
    I have a Document class, Intro class and Nav class. The Intro class runs first, then sends a custom dispatch event to run the Nav class, but I'm getting this error: removed Intro ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on com.secrettowriting.StanPlayer.ui::Navigation/addNav(). Expected 0, got 1. at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEventFunction() at flash.events::EventDispatcher/dispatchEvent() at com.secrettowriting.StanPlayer.display::Intro/removeIntro() at flash.utils::Timer/_timerDispatch() at flash.utils::Timer/tick() The addNav function in the Navigation class should expect 0 arguments/variables and I'm not sending any arguments/variables to it, which is why I'm confused as to why it's saying I'm getting 1. My Document Class: public function HomePlayer():void { if (stage) init(); else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); } private function init(e:Event = null):void { removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE; stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT; // Use when Live //videoURL = this.loaderInfo.parameters.theVIDEO; // Get the Video URL from HTML // Remove when video testing ready videoURL = "videos/WhatDifferentiatesUs.flv"; drawNav(); drawIntro(); } private function drawIntro():void { intro = new Intro(); intro.drawIntro(); intro.addEventListener("onComplete", nav.addNav); stage.addChild(intro); } private function drawNav():void { nav = new Navigation(); nav.drawNav(); stage.addChild(nav); } Intro Class: Public function Intro():void { if (stage) init(); else addEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); } private function init(e:Event = null):void { removeEventListener(Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE, init); } public function drawIntro():void { introMov = new IntroMov(); introMov.alpha = 0; addChild(introMov); TweenLite.to(introMov, 3, {alpha:1}); // Timer introFader = new Timer(INTRO_DELAY); introFader.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, fadeIntro); introFader.start(); introRemover = new Timer(INTRO_DELAY); introRemover.addEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, removeIntro); } private function fadeIntro(e:TimerEvent):void { if (i < 30){ i++ } else if (i == 30){ TweenLite.to(introMov, 1.5, {alpha:0}); introFader.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, fadeIntro); introRemover.start(); } } private function removeIntro(e:TimerEvent):void { if (n < 10){ n++ } else if (n == 10){ introRemover.removeEventListener(TimerEvent.TIMER, removeIntro); removeChild(introMov); trace("removed Intro"); dispatchEvent (new CustomEvent(CustomEvent.COMPLETE, {})); // ?   • List<MyClass*> & array question

    - by Nano HE
    Hi, Assuming a definition like this, list<MyCommand*> subList ... MyCommand* pCmd = (MyCommand*)(m_treeSM.GetItemData(node)); I tried these statements below, but failed. pCmd->subList[2] (pCmd->subList)[2] How can I get the array member values(such as subList[2]). I want to replace the value of subList[2] with other same type value. Thank you.

  • Troubleshoot Perl module installation on Mac OS X

    - by Daniel Standage
    I'm trying to install the Perl module Set::IntervalTree on Mac OS X. I recently installed it today on an Ubuntu box with no problem. I simply started cpan, entered install Set:IntervalTree, and it all worked out. However, the installation failed on Mac OS X--it spits out a huge list of compiler errors (below). How would I troubleshoot this. I don't even know where to begin. cpan[1]> install Set::IntervalTree CPAN: Storable loaded ok (v2.18) Going to read /Users/standage/.cpan/Metadata Database was generated on Fri, 14 Jan 2011 02:58:42 GMT CPAN: YAML loaded ok (v0.72) Going to read /Users/standage/.cpan/build/ ............................................................................DONE Found 1 old build, restored the state of 1 Running install for module 'Set::IntervalTree' Running make for B/BE/BENBOOTH/Set-IntervalTree-0.01.tar.gz CPAN: Digest::SHA loaded ok (v5.45) CPAN: Compress::Zlib loaded ok (v2.008) Checksum for /Users/standage/.cpan/sources/authors/id/B/BE/BENBOOTH/Set-IntervalTree-0.01.tar.gz ok Scanning cache /Users/standage/.cpan/build for sizes ............................................................................DONE x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/ x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/src/ x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/src/Makefile x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/src/interval_tree.h x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/src/test_main.cc x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/lib/ x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/lib/Set/ x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/lib/Set/IntervalTree.pm x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/Changes x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/MANIFEST x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/t/ x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/t/Set-IntervalTree.t x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/typemap x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/perlobject.map x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/IntervalTree.xs x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/Makefile.PL x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/README x Set-IntervalTree-0.01/META.yml CPAN: File::Temp loaded ok (v0.18) CPAN.pm: Going to build B/BE/BENBOOTH/Set-IntervalTree-0.01.tar.gz Checking if your kit is complete... • Inheritance security rules violated while overriding member - SecurityRuleSet.Level2

    - by Page Brooks
    I have a class that inherits from Exception. In .NET 4, I started receiving a runtime error: Inheritance security rules violated while overriding member: MyBusinessException.GetObjectData(System.Runtime.Serialization.SerializationInfo, System.Runtime.Serialization.StreamingContext)'. Security accessibility of the overriding method must match the security accessibility of the method being overriden. I think the issue is caused by the fact that I am overriding GetObjectData. I know one answer for resolving the issue is to set the SecurityRuleSet: [assembly: SecurityRules(SecurityRuleSet.Level1)] This is not an acceptable answer, I'd like to know how to fix the issue without having to relax the default security rules in .NET 4.

  • VB.NET - 'Title' is not a member of 'Calendar.Appointment'

    - by Daniel
    I am having a problem with my code. I am using VB.NET and Visual Studio 2010 to write my program. The source of the control that I am using can be found here. First, I imported the Calendar.DayView.dll file into my toolbox to use as a control. Then I added the following code to my existing code: Private Sub DayView1_NewAppointment(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal args As Calendar.NewAppointmentEventArgs) Dim appointment As New Calendar.Appointment() appointment.StartDate = args.StartDate appointment.EndDate = args.EndDate appointment.Title = args.Title appointments.Add(appointment) End Sub I get this error 'Title' is not a member of 'Calendar.Appointment'. I have no access to the Calendar namespace or the Appointment class. I am able to view the properties of both in the Object Browser but I can't edit any of them. Any suggestions?

  • The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities

    - by user300992
    I have 2 Entities "UserProfile" and "Agent", they are 1-many relationship. I want to do a query to get a list of Agents by giving the userProfileEntityKey. When I run it, I got this "The specified type member 'EntityKey' is not supported in LINQ to Entities" error. public IQueryable<Agent> GetAgentListByUserProfile(EntityKey userProfileEntityKey) { ObjectQuery<Agent> agentObjects = this.DataContext.AgentSet; IQueryable<Agent> resultQuery = (from p in agentObjects where p.UserProfile.EntityKey == userProfileEntityKey select p); return resultQuery; } So, what is the correct way to do this? Do I use p.UserProfile.UserId = UserId ? If that's the case, it's not conceptual anymore. Or should I write object query instead of LINQ query?

  • iPhone Core Data: request for member 'tableView' in something not a structure or union

    - by Nic Hubbard
    I am trying to use CoreData to populate a UITableView. I have been using the developer "Locations" project, and I think I have everything correct. But, now I am getting the following error when I build: request for member 'tableView' in something not a structure or union Why would it be confused about tableView? I am using it many times in the methods. The errors seem to be coming from: [self.tableView insertRowsAtIndexPaths:[NSArray arrayWithObject:indexPath] withRowAnimation:UITableViewRowAnimationFade]; [self.tableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:[NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0] atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES]; Ideas?

  • Trying to recognize _NSFaultingMutableSet as member of NSSet

    - by Will
    I'm trying to recognize the result of a generic query to a managed object as an NSSet. Currently the class returned is a member of _NSFaultingMutableSet, which is clearly related, but fails the isMemberOf:[NSSet class] and isKindOf:[NSSet class] calls. Given that Cocoa doesn't do a direct implementation of NSSet, it's not surprising that I've got some air in the pipes, but I'm wondering if I'm messing something obvious up or this requires a higher grade of kung-fu than I possess. Code follows: SEL selector = NSSelectorFromString(someString); if(![self respondsToSelector:selector]){ NSLog(@"Error processing item"); return; } id items = [self performSelector:selector]; Class itemsClass = [items class]; if ( [itemsClass isKindOfClass:[NSSet class]]) { // do something }

  • SQL finding members who are not friends of another member

    - by thedirktastik
    I'm struggling to find a query which will return members who aren't friends of a certain member. Here is the layout of my tables: member_login: MemberID, email, password member_info: memberID, first_name, last_name member_friends: friendID, req_member, req_date, app_member, app_date, date_deactivated I tried to use NOT IN to run a query that would return the opposite of friends but nothing I try seems to be working. Here's what I thought would work: SELECT Mi.First_Name, Mi.Last_Name FROM Member_Info Mi WHERE Mi.Memberid NOT IN( SELECT Mi.Memberid, Mi.First_Name, Mi.Last_Name FROM Member_Info Mi, Member_Login Ml, Member_Friends Mf WHERE Mi.Memberid = Ml.Memberid AND (Mi.Memberid = Mf.Req_Member AND Mf.App_Member = 1 OR Mi.Memberid = Mf.App_Member AND Mf.Req_Member =1) AND Ml.Date_Deactivated <= 0 AND Mf.App_Date > 0 ); Any ideas?

  • Doxygen - <X>:1: warning: return type of member X is not documented

    - by Matt Clarkson
    /*! \var GLOBAL_VAR * \brief This is my global initialisation array for MY_STRUCT */ MY_STRUCT GLOBAL_VAR = { 1, 3, 2, 1, }; I get the following error: <GLOBAL_VAR>:1: warning: return type of member GLOBAL_VAR is not documented But this shouldn't have any return type?! If I do either of the following the warning goes away: /*! \var GLOBAL_VAR * \brief This is my global initialisation array for MY_STRUCT * \returns */ MY_STRUCT GLOBAL_VAR = { 1, 3, 2, 1, }; Or: /*! \var GLOBAL_VAR * \brief This is my global initialisation array for MY_STRUCT */ MY_STRUCT GLOBAL_VAR = 3; The isn't very useful as it puts a "Returns" into my HTML documentation and the second one breaks my code! How do I remove this warning? Thanks Matt

  • In Django, why is user.is_authenticated a method and not a member variable like is_staff

    - by luc
    Hello all, I've lost some time with a bug in my app due to user authentication. I think that it's a bit confusing but maybe someone can explain the reason and it will appear to me very logical. The user.is_staff is a member variable while user.is_authenticated is a method. However is_authenticated only returns True or False depending if the class is User or AnonymousUser (see http://docs.djangoproject.com/en/dev/topics/auth/) Is there a reason for that? Why user.is_authenticated is a method? Thanks in advance

Thanks

  • Initialize a static member ( an array) in C++

    - by Jimmy zhang
    I intended to create a class which only have static members and static functions. One of the member variable is an array. Would it be possible to initialize it without using constructors? I am having lots of linking errors right now... Class A{ public: static char a[128]; static void do_something(); } How would you initialize a[128]? Why can't I initialize a[128] by directly specifying its value like in C? a[128={1,2,3,...};

  • Given a Member Access lambda expression, convert it to a specific string representation with full ac

    - by Nathan
    Given an Expression<Func<T, object>> (e.g. x = x.Prop1.SubProp), I want to create a string "Prop1.SubProp" for as deep as necessary. In the case of a single access (e.g. x = x.Prop1), I can easily do this with: MemberExpression body = (expression.Body.NodeType == ExpressionType.Convert) ? (MemberExpression)((UnaryExpression)expression.Body).Operand : (MemberExpression)expression.Body; return body.Member.Name; However, if there is deeper nesting, e.g. x = x.Prop1.SubProp1, this only gets the most deeply nested name, e.g. "SubProp1" instead of "Prop1.SubProp1" Is there anyway to access the full property path of a lambda expression?

  • More elegant way to make a C++ member function change different member variables based on template p

    - by Eric Moyer
    Today, I wrote some code that needed to add elements to different container variables depending on the type of a template parameter. I solved it by writing a friend helper class specialized on its own template parameter which had a member variable of the original class. It saved me a few hundred lines of repeating myself without adding much complexity. However, it seemed kludgey. I would like to know if there is a better, more elegant way. The code below is a greatly simplified example illustrating the problem and my solution. It compiles in g++. #include <vector> #include <algorithm> #include <iostream> namespace myNS{ template<class Elt> struct Container{ std::vector<Elt> contents; template<class Iter> void set(Iter begin, Iter end){ contents.erase(contents.begin(), contents.end()); std::copy(begin, end, back_inserter(contents)); } }; struct User; namespace WkNS{ template<class Elt> struct Worker{ User& u; Worker(User& u):u(u){} template<class Iter> void set(Iter begin, Iter end); }; }; struct F{ int x; explicit F(int x):x(x){} }; struct G{ double x; explicit G(double x):x(x){} }; struct User{ Container<F> a; Container<G> b; template<class Elt> void doIt(Elt x, Elt y){ std::vector<Elt> v; v.push_back(x); v.push_back(y); Worker<Elt>(*this).set(v.begin(), v.end()); } }; namespace WkNS{ template<class Elt> template<class Iter> void Worker<Elt>::set(Iter begin, Iter end){ std::cout << "Set a." << std::endl; u.a.set(begin, end); } template<> template<class Iter> void Worker<G>::set(Iter begin, Iter end){ std::cout << "Set b." << std::endl; u.b.set(begin, end); } }; }; int main(){ using myNS::F; using myNS::G; myNS::User u; u.doIt(F(1),F(2)); u.doIt(G(3),G(4)); } User is the class I was writing. Worker is my helper class. I have it in its own namespace because I don't want it causing trouble outside myNS. Container is a container class whose definition I don't want to modify, but is used by User in its instance variables. doIt<F> should modify a. doIt<G> should modify b. F and G are open to limited modification if that would produce a more elegant solution. (As an example of one such modification, in the real application F's constructor takes a dummy parameter to make it look like G's constructor and save me from repeating myself.) In the real code, Worker is a friend of User and member variables are private. To make the example simpler to write, I made everything public. However, a solution that requires things to be public really doesn't answer my question. Given all these caveats, is there a better way to write User::doIt?

  • static const C++ class member initialized gives a duplicate symbol error when linking

    - by Petruza
    I have a class which has a static const array, it has to be initialized outside the class: class foo{ static const int array[3]; }; const int foo::array[3] = { 1, 2, 3 }; But then I get a duplicate symbol foo::array in foo.o and main.o foo.o hold the foo class, and main.o holds main() and uses instances of foo. How can I share this static const array between all instances of foo? I mean, that's the idea of a static member.
