  I narrowed the causes of an AS3 compiler error 1119 down to code that looks similar to this: var test_inst:Number = 2.953; trace(test_inst); trace(test_inst.constructor); I get the error "1119: Access of possibly undefined property constructor through a reference with static type Number." Now if I omit the variable's type, I don't get that error: var test_inst = 2.953; trace(test_inst); trace(test_inst.constructor); it produces the expected output: 2.953 [class Number] So what's the deal? I like explicitly typing variables, so is there any way to solve this error other than not providing the variable's type?

  Hello Im trying to make a chat program like skype in c# and having some trouble gavring/updating the messages, what i tryed was foreach value in a database add it into listbox1, and i did a timer every second do that.. but it kept adding it again every second repeating like it was on loop So then i sat down and thought how can i do this, so i come up with webclient download a list of messages by php and foreach line in the webclient add it to a listbox! is there any way of doing this?

  I'm banging my head against the wall on this one. I was looking at some old database reporting code written in VB6 and case across this line (the code is moving data from a "source" database into a reporting database): rsTarget!VehYear = Trim(Str(rsSource!VehYear)) When rsSource!VehYear is Null, the above line generates an "Invalid use of Null" run-time error. If I break on the above line and type the following in the Immediate pane: ?rsSource!VehYear It outputs Null. Fine, that makes sense. Next, I try to reproduce the error: ?Str(rsSource!VehYear) I get an "Invalid use of Null" error. However, if I type the following into the Immediate window: ?Str(Null) I don't get an error. It simply outputs Null. If I repeat the same experiment with Trim() instead of Str(), everything works fine. ?Trim(rsSource!VehYear) returns Null, as does ?Trim(Null). No run-time errors. So, my question is, how can Str(rsSource!VehYear) possibly throw an "Invalid use of Null" error when Str(Null) does not, when I know that rsSource!VehYear is equal to Null?

  I have a python script which launches several processes. Is there a way to have terminate also kill the subshell created by os.system()?

• How do I propagate an exception thrown by croak in forked child to parent/foreground process?

  Throwing an exception via croak in a forked child process seems to print the error as a background process would. That is, it clobbers the shell prompt. If I die instead of croak, the the error message pops up as a foreground process. I've trying to find out why that is in the Carp documentation without any luck. Here's what I mean. The croak version: $ perl Wrapper.pm $ error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 624 The die version: $ perl Wrapper.pm error: ... does not exist at Wrapper.pm line 515. I tried trapping the fork and printing $@ to STDERR and exiting, but that didn't have an effect. Any ideas? I'd like to be able to use croak in this particular case.

I have written 2 implementations, one works well, the other is giving me an error. Any help would be awesome.   I am running IIS 6.0 on an XP OS using VS 2008 and SQL Server 2008 (Full install). I developed two web apps. Both of these I can run from IIS by setting them to the default website. However, now I tried adding an index.htm file. Real simple; all it has is two hyperlinks to these web apps. But now only the first web app works. The first web app is pure VS. The second web app modifies an Adventureworks database table. But now when I click the hyperlink for the second web app, it gives me the error below. However this error doesn't make sense to me cause I have the two web apps configured as two virtual directories beneath C:\inetpub\ and the index.htm file is also beneath C:\inetpub. And the default website is set to home directory C:\inetpub\ with Document index.htm on top. Also, why does the first web app work and not the second now? Server Error in '/AddFileToSQL' Application. The path '/AddFileToSQL/App_GlobalResources/' maps to a directory outside this application, which is not supported.   Hi, I'm trying to call web service function via GET method using jQuery, but having a problem. This is a web service code: [WebService(Namespace = "http://something.com/samples")] [ScriptService] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] public class TestWebService : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public string Test2() { string result = null; try { result = "{'result':'success', 'datetime':'" + DateTime.Now.ToString() + "'"; } catch (Exception ex) { result = "Something wrong happened"; } return result; } } That's the way I call the function: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://localhost/testwebsite/TestWebService.asmx/Test2", data: "{}", contentType: "application/json", dataType: "json", error: function (xhr, status, error) { alert(xhr.responseText); }, success: function (msg) { alert('Call was successful!'); } }); Method is called successfully, but result string gets covered by XML tags, like this: <string> {'result':'success', 'datetime':'4/26/2010 12:11:18 PM' </string> And I get an error because of this (error handler is called). Does anybody know what can be done about this?
