  I have a native query that does a batch insert into a MySQL database: String sql = "insert into t1 (a, b) select x, y from t2 where x = 'foo'"; EntityTransaction tx = entityManager.getTransaction(); try { tx.begin(); int rowCount = entityManager.createNativeQuery(sql).executeUpdate(); tx.commit(); return rowCount; } catch(Exception ex) { tx.rollback(); log.error(...); } This query causes a deadlock: while it reads from t2 with insert .. select, another process tries to insert a row into t2. I don't care about the consistency of reads from t2 when doing an insert .. select and want to set the transaction isolation level to READ_UNCOMMITTED. How do I go about setting it in JPA backed by Hibernate?

• PerformanceCounter.NextValue hangs on some machines.

Other counters like new PerformanceCounter("Processor", "% Processor Time", "_Total") seems to work fine. Any suggwstions why is that?

  I have a ListView. When I select an item in the ListView, I would like to have a Subview slide in from the right, the way that it does in many Apps. I have been searching for tutorials on this topic but am spinning my wheels. Maybe Android uses a term different than "Subview" ? • Unable to Create New Incidents in Dynamics CRM with Java and Axis2

  So I've been working on trying to figure this out, oddly when I ran it one machine I got a generic Axis Fault with no description, but now on another machine I'm getting a different error message, but I'm still stuck. Basically I'm just trying to do what I thought would be a fairly trivial task of creating a new incident in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0 via a web services call. I started by downloading the XML from http://hostname/MSCrmServices/2007/CrmService.asmx and generating code from it using Axis2. Is it possible to send the auth header along with a soap request when using WSDL?   Hi, people. I try to use openmp for multithreading the loop through std::set. When I write the following code - #pragma omp parallel for for (std::set<A>::const_iterator i = s.begin(); i != s.end(); ++i) { const A a = *i; operate(a); } I get an error - error: invalid type for iteration variable 'i' error: invalid controlling predicate error: invalid increment expression. So is there an another way to correct iteration in std containers using openmp? There is a workaround to use int i and iterate from 0 to s.size() and using iterator inside a loop body, but this is not looks good.

  Hi, I have a workflow started and persisted using messaging activities. The correlation between the Start initial command and the Stop final command works well if they're sent within few seconds. Problems begin when the workflow is unloaded, because the following Stop message throws the following FaultException: If LoadWorkflowByInstanceKeyCommand.AssociateLookupKeyToInstanceId is not specified, the LookupInstanceKey must already be associated to an instance, or the LoadWorkflowByInstanceKeyCommand will fail. For this reason, it is invalid to also specify the LookupInstanceKey in the InstanceKeysToAssociate collection if AssociateLookupKeyToInstanceId isn't set Can anybody help me? • Ball to Ball Collision - Detection and Handling

  With the help of the Stack Overflow community I've written a pretty basic-but fun physics simulator. You click and drag the mouse to launch a ball. It will bounce around and eventually stop on the "floor". My next big feature I want to add in is ball to ball collision. The ball's movement is broken up into a x and y speed vector. I have gravity (small reduction of the y vector each step), I have friction (small reduction of both vectors each collision with a wall). The balls honestly move around in a surprisingly realistic way. I guess my question has two parts: What is the best method to detect ball to ball collision? Do I just have an O(n^2) loop that iterates over each ball and checks every other ball to see if it's radius overlaps? What equations do I use to handle the ball to ball collisions? Physics 101 How does it effect the two balls speed x/y vectors? What is the resulting direction the two balls head off in? How do I apply this to each ball? Handling the collision detection of the "walls" and the resulting vector changes were easy but I see more complications with ball-ball collisions. With walls I simply had to take the negative of the appropriate x or y vector and off it would go in the correct direction. With balls I don't think it is that way. Some quick clarifications: for simplicity I'm ok with a perfectly elastic collision for now, also all my balls have the same mass right now, but I might change that in the future. I have the ball collision detection and response working great! Relevant code: Collision Detection: for (int i = 0; i < ballCount; i++) { for (int j = i + 1; j < ballCount; j++) { if (balls[i].colliding(balls[j])) { balls[i].resolveCollision(balls[j]); } } } This will check for collisions between every ball but skip redundant checks (if you have to check if ball 1 collides with ball 2 then you don't need to check if ball 2 collides with ball 1. Also, it skips checking for collisions with itself). Binary: Compiled binary in case you just want to try bouncing some balls around. If anyone has some suggestions for how to improve this basic physics simulator let me know!   How have I to implement IEqualityComparer<DataRow> to remove duplicates rows from a DataTable with next structure: ID primary key, col_1, col_2, col_3, col_4 The default comparer doesn't work because each row has it's own, unique primary key. How to implement IEqualityComparer<DataRow> that will skip primary key and compare only data remained.   Hi, I'm just starting out with NHibernate and I'm having trouble with running more complex queries. I have entities with a list of tags attached. The user will provide two lists of tags, include and exclude. I need to find all the entities that have all of the include tags, and exclude any entites that have any tag in the exclude list. Below is my first effort- which is clearly wrong as its listing all Display objects that have any of the include tags rather than all! • ListView selection issue...Using onItemClick(AdapterView<?> parent, View view, ...)

  The problem I hope to resolve here is that when I click on one item in the ListView that item's background changes to light gray, but when I continue to scroll through the list every 4th item has the background changed to light gray even though those other items have not been clicked. How do I make only the item I clicked be effected by the click? • Validating ModelChoiceField in Django forms

  I'm trying to validate a form containing a ModelChoiceField: state = forms.ModelChoiceField(queryset=State.objects.all(), empty_label=None) When it is used in normal circumstances, everything goes just fine. But I'd like to protect the form from the invalid input. It's pretty obvious that I must get forms.ValidationError when I put invalid value in this field, isn't it? But if I try to submit a form with a value 'invalid' in 'state' field, I get ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: 'invalid' and not the expected forms.ValidationError. What should I do? I tried to place a def clean_state(self) to check this field but that didn't work plus I don't think this is a good solution, there must be something more simple but I just missed that.

• Cannot create multiple instances of PowerPoint

  I'm working on a project where I need to use PowerPoint from C#.net. Initially, I always created one single instance. As of today, I would like to have multiple instance running. I do that like so: Type powerpointType = Type.GetTypeFromProgID("PowerPoint.Application"); object instance1 = Activator.CreateInstance(powerpointType); object instance2 = Activator.CreateInstance(powerpointType); but when I ask for the handle of both instances, by calling hwnd = (int)powerpointType.GetProperty("HWND").GetValue(instance1, null); then I get the same handle twice. My conclusion is that the application is started just once, and the TaskManager comfirms that: Only one process. How come there is only one instance of PowerPoint running, and how can I make it work?
