  • Page output caching for dynamic web applications

    - by Mike Ellis
    I am currently working on a web application where the user steps (forward or back) through a series of pages with "Next" and "Previous" buttons, entering data until they reach a page with the "Finish" button. Until finished, all data is stored in Session state, then sent to the mainframe database via web services at the end of the process. Some of the pages display data from previous pages in order to collect additional information. These pages can never be cached because they are different for every user. For pages that don't display this dynamic data, they can be cached, but only the first time they load. After that, the data that was previously entered needs to be displayed. This requires Page_Load to fire, which means the page can't be cached at that point. A couple of weeks ago, I knew almost nothing about implementing page caching. Now I still don't know much, but I know a little bit, and here is the solution that I developed with the help of others on my team and a lot of reading and trial-and-error. We have a base page class defined from which all pages inherit. In this class I have defined a method that sets the caching settings programmatically. For pages that can be cached, they call this base page method in their Page_Load event within a if(!IsPostBack) block, which ensures that only the page itself gets cached, not the data on the page. if(!IsPostBack) {     ...     SetCacheSettings();     ... } protected void SetCacheSettings() {     Response.Cache.AddValidationCallback(new HttpCacheValidateHandler(Validate), null);     Response.Cache.SetExpires(DateTime.Now.AddHours(1));     Response.Cache.SetSlidingExpiration(true);     Response.Cache.SetValidUntilExpires(true);     Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.ServerAndNoCache); } The AddValidationCallback sets up an HttpCacheValidateHandler method called Validate which runs logic when a cached page is requested. The Validate method signature is standard for this method type. public static void Validate(HttpContext context, Object data, ref HttpValidationStatus status) {     string visited = context.Request.QueryString["v"];     if (visited != null && "1".Equals(visited))     {         status = HttpValidationStatus.IgnoreThisRequest; //force a page load     }     else     {         status = HttpValidationStatus.Valid; //load from cache     } } I am using the HttpValidationStatus values IgnoreThisRequest or Valid which forces the Page_Load event method to run or allows the page to load from cache, respectively. Which one is set depends on the value in the querystring. The value in the querystring is set up on each page in the "Next" and "Previous" button click event methods based on whether the page that the button click is taking the user to has any data on it or not. bool hasData = HasPageBeenVisited(url); if (hasData) {     url += VISITED; } Response.Redirect(url); The HasPageBeenVisited method determines whether the destination page has any data on it by checking one of its required data fields. (I won't include it here because it is very system-dependent.) VISITED is a string constant containing "?v=1" and gets appended to the url if the destination page has been visited. The reason this logic is within the "Next" and "Previous" button click event methods is because 1) the Validate method is static which doesn't allow it to access non-static data such as the data fields for a particular page, and 2) at the time at which the Validate method runs, either the data has not yet been deserialized from Session state or is not available (different AppDomain?) because anytime I accessed the Session state information from the Validate method, it was always empty.

  • AWS .NET SDK v2: setting up queues and topics

    - by Elton Stoneman
    Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/EltonStoneman/archive/2013/10/13/aws-.net-sdk-v2-setting-up-queues-and-topics.aspxFollowing on from my last post, reading from SQS queues with the new SDK is easy stuff, but linking a Simple Notification Service topic to an SQS queue is a bit more involved. The AWS model for topics and subscriptions is a bit more advanced than in Azure Service Bus. SNS lets you have subscribers on multiple different channels, so you can send a message which gets relayed to email address, mobile apps and SQS queues all in one go. As the topic owner, when you request a subscription on any channel, the owner needs to confirm they’re happy for you to send them messages. With email subscriptions, the user gets a confirmation request from Amazon which they need to reply to before they start getting messages. With SQS, you need to grant the topic permission to write to the queue. If you own both the topic and the queue, you can do it all in code with the .NET SDK. Let’s say you want to create a new topic, a new queue as a topic subscriber, and link the two together. Creating the topic is easy with the SNS client (which has an expanded name, AmazonSimpleNotificationServiceClient, compare to the SQS class which is just called QueueClient): var request = new CreateTopicRequest(); request.Name = TopicName; var response = _snsClient.CreateTopic(request); TopicArn = response.TopicArn; In the response from AWS (which I’m assuming is successful), you get an ARN – Amazon Resource Name – which is the unique identifier for the topic. We create the queue using the same code from my last post, AWS .NET SDK v2: the message-pump pattern, and then we need to subscribe the queue to the topic. The topic creates the subscription request: var response = _snsClient.Subscribe(new SubscribeRequest { TopicArn = TopicArn, Protocol = "sqs", Endpoint = _queueClient.QueueArn }); That response will give you an ARN for the subscription, which you’ll need if you want to set attributes like RawMessageDelivery. Then the SQS client needs to confirm the subscription by allowing the topic to send messages to it. The SDK doesn’t give you a nice mechanism for doing that, so I’ve extended my AWS wrapper with a method that encapsulates it: internal void AllowSnsToSendMessages(TopicClient topicClient) { var policy = Policies.AllowSendFormat.Replace("%QueueArn%", QueueArn).Replace("%TopicArn%", topicClient.TopicArn); var request = new SetQueueAttributesRequest(); request.Attributes.Add("Policy", policy); request.QueueUrl = QueueUrl; var response = _sqsClient.SetQueueAttributes(request); } That builds up a policy statement, which gets added to the queue as an attribute, and specifies that the topic is allowed to send messages to the queue. The statement itself is a JSON block which contains the ARN of the queue, the ARN of the topic, and an Allow effect for the sqs:SendMessage action: public const string AllowSendFormat= @"{ ""Statement"": [ { ""Sid"": ""MySQSPolicy001"", ""Effect"": ""Allow"", ""Principal"": { ""AWS"": ""*"" }, ""Action"": ""sqs:SendMessage"", ""Resource"": ""%QueueArn%"", ""Condition"": { ""ArnEquals"": { ""aws:SourceArn"": ""%TopicArn%"" } } } ] }"; There’s a new gist with an updated QueueClient and a new TopicClient here: Wrappers for the SQS and SNS clients in the AWS SDK for .NET v2. Both clients have an Ensure() method which creates the resource, so if you want to create a topic and a subscription you can use:  var topicClient = new TopicClient(“BigNews”, “ImListening”); And the topic client has a Subscribe() method, which calls into the message pump on the queue client: topicClient.Subscribe(x=>Log.Debug(x.Body)); var message = {}; //etc. topicClient.Publish(message); So you can isolate all the fiddly bits and use SQS and SNS with a similar interface to the Azure SDK.

  • Scenarios for Throwing Exceptions

    - by Joe Mayo
    I recently came across a situation where someone had an opinion that differed from mine of when an exception should be thrown. This particular case was an issue opened on LINQ to Twitter for an Exception on EndSession.  The premise of the issue was that the poster didn’t feel an exception should be raised, regardless of authentication status.  As first, this sounded like a valid point.  However, I went back to review my code and decided not to make any changes. Here's my rationale: 1. The exception doesn’t occur if the user is authenticated when EndAccountSession is called. 2. The exception does occur if the user is not authenticated when EndAccountSession is called. 3. The exception represents the fact that EndAccountSession is not able to fulfill its intended purpose - to end the session.  If a session never existed, then it would not be possible to perform the requested action.  Therefore, an exception is appropriate. To help illustrate how to handle this situation, I've modified the following code in Program.cs in the LinqToTwitterDemo project to illustrate the situation: static void EndSession(ITwitterAuthorizer auth) { using (var twitterCtx = new TwitterContext(auth, "https://api.twitter.com/1/", "https://search.twitter.com/")) { try { //Log twitterCtx.Log = Console.Out; var status = twitterCtx.EndAccountSession(); Console.WriteLine("Request: {0}, Error: {1}" , status.Request , status.Error); } catch (TwitterQueryException tqe) { var webEx = tqe.InnerException as WebException; if (webEx != null) { var webResp = webEx.Response as HttpWebResponse; if (webResp != null && webResp.StatusCode == HttpStatusCode.Unauthorized) Console.WriteLine("Twitter didn't recognize you as having been logged in. Therefore, your request to end session is illogical.\n"); } var status = tqe.Response; Console.WriteLine("Request: {0}, Error: {1}" , status.Request , status.Error); } } } As expected, LINQ to Twitter wraps the exception in a TwitterQueryException as the InnerException.  The TwitterQueryException serves a very useful purpose through it's Response property.  Notice in the example above that the response has Request and Error proprieties.  These properties correspond to the information that Twitter returns as part of it's response payload.  This is often useful while debugging to help you understand why Twitter was unable to perform the  requested action.  Other times, it's cryptic, but that's another story.  At least you have some way of knowing in your code how to anticipate and handle these situations, along with having extra information to debug with. To sum things up, there are two points to make: when and why an exception should be raised and when to wrap and re-throw an exception in a custom exception type. I felt it was necessary to allow the exception to be raised because the called method was unable to perform the task it was designed for.  I also felt that it is inappropriate for a general library to do anything with exceptions because that could potentially hide a problem from the caller.  A related point is that it should be the exclusive decision of the application that uses the library on what to do with an exception.  Another aspect of this situation is that I wrapped the exception in a custom exception and re-threw.  This is a tough call because I don’t want to hide any stack trace information.  However, the need to make the exception more meaningful by including vital information returned from Twitter swayed me in the direction to design an interface that was as helpful as possible to library consumers.  As shown in the code above, you can dig into the exception and pull out a lot of good information, such as the fact that the underlying HTTP response was a 401 Unauthorized.  In all, trade-offs are seldom perfect for all cases, but combining the fact that the method was unable to perform its intended function, this is a library, and the extra information can be more helpful, it seemed to be the better design. @JoeMayo

  • export data from WCF Service to excel

    - by Dave
    I need to provide an export to excel feature for a large amount of data returned from a WCF web service. The code to load the datalist is as below: List<resultSet> r = myObject.ReturnResultSet(myWebRequestUrl); //call to WCF service myDataList.DataSource = r; myDataList.DataBind(); I am using the Reponse object to do the job: Response.Clear(); Response.Buffer = true; Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"; Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=MyExcel.xls"); StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder(); StringWriter sw = new StringWriter(sb); HtmlTextWriter tw = new HtmlTextWriter(sw); myDataList.RenderControl(tw); Response.Write(sb.ToString()); Response.End(); The problem is that WCF Service times out for large amount of data (about 5000 rows) and the result set is null. When I debug the service, I can see the window for saving/opening the excel sheet appear before the service returns the result and hence the excel sheet is always empty. Please help me figure this out.

  • C# Can I return HttpWebResponse result to iframe - Uses Digest authentication

    - by chadsxe
    I am trying to figure out a way to display a cross-domain web page that uses Digest Authentication. My initial thought was to make a web request and return the entire page source. I currently have no issues with authenticating and getting a response but I am not sure how to properly return the needed data. // Create a request for the URL. WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create("http://some-url/cgi/image.php?type=live"); // Set the credentials. request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); // Get the response. HttpWebResponse response = (HttpWebResponse)request.GetResponse(); // Get the stream containing content returned by the server. Stream dataStream = response.GetResponseStream(); // Open the stream using a StreamReader for easy access. StreamReader reader = new StreamReader(dataStream); // Read the content. string responseFromServer = reader.ReadToEnd(); // Clean up the streams and the response. reader.Close(); dataStream.Close(); response.Close(); return responseFromServer; My problems are currently... responseFromServer is not returning the entire source of the page. I.E. missing body and head tags The data is encoded improperly in responseFromServer. I believe this has something to do with the transfer encoding being of the type chunked. Further more... I am not entirely sure if this is even possible. If it matters, this is being done in ASP.NET MVC 4 C#. Thanks, Chad

  • Export to Excel from ASP.NET produces files unreadable with Excel Viewer

    - by MainMa
    Hi, I want to output some dynamic data from an ASP.NET website to Excel. I found that the easiest way which does not require to use Excel XML or to install Excel on server machine is to output data as a table and specify application/vnd.ms-excel type. The problem is when I do so and try to open the file in Excel Viewer, I receive the following error message: Microsoft Excel Viewer cannot open files of this type. Then nothing is opened. Even an easiest code such as: protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { Response.Clear(); Response.Buffer = true; HttpContext.Current.Response.AddHeader("content-disposition", "attachment; filename=Example.xls"); Response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"; StringWriter stringWriter = new System.IO.StringWriter(); HtmlTextWriter htmlTextWriter = new System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter(stringWriter); dataGrid.RenderControl(htmlTextWriter); Response.Write("<html><body><table><tr><td>A</td><td>B</td></tr><tr><td>C</td><td>D</td></tr></table></body></html>"); Response.End(); } produces the same error. What can cause such behavior? Is it because the Viewer cannot read such files, but full Excel version can?

  • JQuery BlockUI - How to unblock UI after file download?

    - by Dan
    Using ASP.Net, JQuery and BlockUI, I'm trying to unblock the UI after a download file dialog is shown. I block the UI when export button is clicked: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#<%= BtnExport.ClientID%>').click(function(){ $.blockUI(); }); }); </script> After this, I generate the file server side using: private void SendFileToUser(byte[] file, string contentType, string filename) { Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = contentType; Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="+filename); Response.OutputStream.Write(file,0,file.Length); Response.OutputStream.Flush(); Response.End(); } After this code has executed, I would like to unblock the UI. I have considered different options: Poll using Ajax calls to see if the file has been generated. Store the file in Session and redirect to same page and generate download then. But both options seem ackward, and I think there must be a clever JavaScript way to get a handle on or wait for a file dialog. Any suggestions?

  • HttpServletRequest#login() not working in Java.

    - by Nitesh Panchal
    Hello, j_security_check just doesn't seem enough for me to perform login process. So, instead of submitting the form to j_security_check i created my own servlet and in that i am programmatically trying to do login. This works but i am not able to redirect to my restricted resource. Can anybody tell me what can be the problem? This is processRequest method of my servlet :- protected void processRequest(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { response.setContentType("text/html;charset=UTF-8"); PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); try { String strUsername = request.getParameter("txtusername"); String strPassword = request.getParameter("txtpassword"); if(strUsername == null || strPassword == null || strUsername.equals("") || strPassword.equals("")) throw new Exception("Username and/or password missing."); request.login(strUsername, strPassword); System.out.println("Login succeeded!!"); if(request.isUserInRole(ROLES.ADMIN.getValue())){//enum System.out.println("Found in Admin Role"); response.sendRedirect("/Admin/home.jsf"); } else if (request.isUserInRole(ROLES.GENERAL.getValue())) response.sendRedirect("/Common/index.jsf"); else //guard throw new Exception("No role for user " + request.getRemoteUser()); }catch(Exception ex){ //patch work why there needs to be blogger here? System.out.println("Invalid username and/or password!!"); response.sendRedirect("/Common/index.jsf"); }finally { out.close(); } } Everything works fine and i can even see message "Found in Admin Role" but problem is even after authenticating i am not able to redirect my request to some other page. Please help geeks.

  • Django: Unicode Filenames with ASCII headers?

    - by TheLizardKing
    I have a list of strangely encoded files: 02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3 which I suppose isn't so bad but there are a few particular characters which Django OR nginx seem to be snagging on. >>> test = u'02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3' >>> test u'02 - Charlie, Woody and You\uff0fStudy #22.mp3' I am using nginx as a reverse proxy to connect to django's built in webserver (still in development stages) and postgresql for my database. My database and tables are all en_US.UTF-8 and I am using pgadmin3 to view my tables outside of django. My issue goes a little beyond my title, firstly how should I be saving possibly whacky filenames in my database? My current method is 'path': smart_unicode(path.lstrip(MUSIC_PATH)), 'filename': smart_unicode(file) and when I pprint out the values they do show u'whateverthecrap' I am not sure if that is how I should be doing it but assuming it is now I have issues trying to spit out the download. My download view looks something like this: def song_download(request, song_id): song = get_object_or_404(Song, pk=song_id) url = u'/static_music/%s/%s' % (song.path, song.filename) print url response = HttpResponse() response['X-Accel-Redirect'] = url response['Content-Type'] = 'audio/mpeg' response['Content-Disposition'] = "attachment; filename=test.mp3" return response and most files will download but when I get to 02 - Charlie, Woody and You/Study #22.mp3 I receive this from django: 'ascii' codec can't encode character u'\uff0f' in position 118: ordinal not in range(128), HTTP response headers must be in US-ASCII format. How can I use an ASCII acceptable string if my filename is out of bounds? 02 - Charlie, Woody and You\uff0fStudy #22.mp3 doesn't seem to work... EDIT 1 I am using Ubuntu for my OS.

  • In Python epoll can I avoid the errno.EWOULDBLOCK, errno.EAGAIN ?

    I wrote a epoll wrapper in python, It works fine but recently I found the performance is not not ideal for large package sending. I look down into the code and found there's actually a LOT of error Traceback (most recent call last): File "/Users/dawn/Documents/workspace/work/dev/server/sandbox/single_point/tcp_epoll.py", line 231, in send_now num_bytes = self.sock.send(self.response) error: [Errno 35] Resource temporarily unavailable and previously silent it as the document said, so my sending function was done this way: def send_now(self): '''send message at once''' st = time.time() times = 0 while self.response != '': try: num_bytes = self.sock.send(self.response) l.info('msg wrote %s %d : %r size %r',self.ip,self.port,self.response[:num_bytes],num_bytes) self.response = self.response[num_bytes:] except socket.error,e: if e[0] in (errno.EWOULDBLOCK,errno.EAGAIN): #here I printed it, but I silent it in normal days #print 'would block, again %r',tb.format_exc() break else: l.warning('%r %r socket error %r',self.ip,self.port,tb.format_exc()) #must break or cause dead loop break except: #other exceptions l.warning('%r %r msg write error %r',self.ip,self.port,tb.format_exc()) break times += 1 et = time.time() I googled it, and says it caused by temporarily network buffer run out So how can I manually and efficiently detect this error instead it goes to exception phase? Because it cause to much time to rasie/handle the exception.

    Hi, I get this error with reCaptcha: 'Input error: response: Required field must not be blank challenge: Required field must not be blank privatekey: Required field must not be blank' I'm sending the data via POST, so I don't understand what is going on. This is the code I use: public static Boolean Check(String challenge, String response) { try { String privatekey = "7LeAbLoSAAAABJBn05uo6sZoFNoFnK2XKyF3dRXL"; String remoteip = HttpContext.Current.Request.UserHostAddress; WebRequest req = WebRequest.Create("http://api-verify.recaptcha.net/verify"); req.Method = "POST"; using (StreamWriter sw = new StreamWriter(req.GetRequestStream())) { sw.Write("privatekey={0}&remoteip={1}&challenge={2}&response={3}", privatekey, remoteip, challenge, response); sw.Flush(); } String resultString = String.Empty; String errorString = String.Empty; using (StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(req.GetResponse().GetResponseStream())) { resultString = sr.ReadLine(); errorString = sr.ReadLine(); } Boolean b; return Boolean.TryParse(resultString, out b) && b; } catch (Exception) { return false; } } (Of course that'is not the correct private key :P) I have no idea what the problem is about, I think I'm sending the data correctly, but that error says that apparently I'm not sending anything. What could be the problem? Cheers.

We do this in a helper library that takes in the controller context contextBase.Response.Cookies[CookiePayload.CookieName].Value = encryptedTicket; contextBase.Response.Cookies[CookiePayload.CookieName].Expires = cookieExpires; contextBase.Response.Cookies[CookiePayload.CookieName].Domain= ConfigHelper.CookieDomain; contextBase.Response.Cookies[CookiePayload.CookieName].HttpOnly=true; We do a quick redirect in the controller (to a non https page): this.ControllerContext.HttpContext.Response.Redirect(redirectTo, false); return null; The cookie appears in the response (according to firebug's net tab). But neither fireforx nor ie send the cookie on subsequent gets. We are setting the cookie domain to mydomain.com even though the site is mysubdomain.mydomain.com. Skipping the redirect command has no effect, nor does changing the cookie value. I'm baffled. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • Render User Controls and call their Page_Load

    - by David Murdoch
    The following code will not work because the controls (page1, page2, page3) require that their "Page_Load" event gets called. using System; using System.IO; using System.Web; using System.Web.UI; using System.Web.UI.WebControls; using iTextSharp.text; using iTextSharp.text.html.simpleparser; using iTextSharp.text.pdf; public partial class utilities_getPDF : System.Web.UI.Page { protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { // add user controls to the page AddContentControl("controls/page1"); AddContentControl("controls/page2"); AddContentControl("controls/page3"); // set up the response to download the rendered PDF... Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"; Response.ContentEncoding = System.Text.Encoding.UTF8; Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment;filename=FileName.pdf"); Response.Cache.SetCacheability(HttpCacheability.NoCache); // get the rendered HTML of the page System.IO.StringWriter stringWrite = new StringWriter(); System.Web.UI.HtmlTextWriter htmlWrite = new HtmlTextWriter(stringWrite); this.Render(htmlWrite); StringReader reader = new StringReader(stringWrite.ToString()); // write the PDF to the OutputStream... Document doc = new Document(PageSize.A4); HTMLWorker parser = new HTMLWorker(doc); PdfWriter.GetInstance(doc, Response.OutputStream); doc.Open(); parser.Parse(reader); doc.Close(); } // the parts are probably irrelevant to the question... private const string contentPage = "~/includes/{0}.ascx"; private void AddContentControl(string page) { content.Controls.Add(myLoadControl(page)); } private Control myLoadControl(string page) { return TemplateControl.LoadControl(string.Format(contentPage, page)); } } So my question is: How can I get the controls HTML?

  • JSON parse failed

    - by Mesut
    hello i haven an error abour ajax post success. after the success function i added code for lookin for errors ... else if (exception === 'parsererror') { alert('Requested JSON parse failed.'); ... on my php code: echo json_encode(array('msg' => $msg, 'myClass' => $class)); returns back after my function. i checked in firebug and it returns like, response like {"msg":"Kayd\u0131n\u0131z Ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131","myClass":"alert alert-success"} html like {"msg":"Kayd\u0131n\u0131z Ba\u015far\u0131l\u0131","myClass":"alert alert-success"} there is no json tab on firebug and on my ajax code if i comment the dataType: "json", my success function is working but i cant get the response.msg or response.myClass, if i dont comment it, success function is not working, here is the ajax code $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "index.php?page=addItem&action=addItem&edit=true", data: dataString, success: function(response) { $("#message").html(response.msg); $("#message").addClass(response.myClass); $("#itemForm").fadeOut("slow"); window.setTimeout('location.href = "index.php?page=addItem"', 1000); } });

  • ajax call to servlet puzzler

    - by vector
    Greetings! I'm having a problem getting a text value of a captcha from a servlet through ajax call. When my captcha gets created, its text value is written to session, but after refreshing the image itself though ajax call, I only get one old value of the text. Refreshing the image itself works ok, but I'm stuck getting the correct values from the session on subsequent call. On page reload I get both the new image and its new text value, no joy with ajax though. This works great for the image refresh: $("#asos").attr("src", "/ImageServlet?="+((new Date()).getTime()) ) This call to another method to get text value gives me old stuff: $.ajax({ url:"checkCaptcha", type:"GET", cache: false, success: function( data) { alert(data); } }); Any feedback will be appreciated. ps: here's the meat of the method getting the call: PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); response.setContentType("text/html"); response.setDateHeader("Expires", 0 ); // Set standard HTTP/1.1 no-cache headers. response.setHeader("Cache-Control", "no-store, no-cache, must-revalidate"); // Set IE extended HTTP/1.1 no-cache headers (use addHeader). response.addHeader("Cache-Control", "post-check=0, pre-check=0"); // Set standard HTTP/1.0 no-cache header. response.setHeader("Pragma", "no-cache"); out.print( request.getSession( ).getAttribute("randomPixValue") ); out.close();

  • How to get principal name from HTTPRequest in CXF JAX-RS webservice method called from android app.

    - by johnrock
    How can I get the principal name, session and ideally check if the principal is authenticated with the Spring Security context inside a CXF JAX-RS webservice method receiving a call from an Android client? This is the code I am currently working with. I have commented where and what I am trying to get. Android code to call webservice: httpclient.getCredentialsProvider().setCredentials( new AuthScope("192.168.1.101", 80), new UsernamePasswordCredentials("joesmith", "mypasswd")); HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(WEBSERVICE_URL+"/makePayload"); httpget.setHeader("User-Agent", userAgent); httpget.setHeader("Content-Type", "application/xml"); HttpResponse response; try { response = httpclient.execute(httpget); HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); ... parse xml from response } CXF, Spring webservice code: @GET @Path("/getPayload") @Produces("application/XML") public Response makePayload(@Context Request request){ //Get user principal name //Get session? //Get Spring security context? Payload payload = new Payload(); payload.setUsersOnline(new Long(200)); return Response.ok().entity(payload).build(); }

  • HttpWebRequest Timeouts After Ten Consecutive Requests

    - by Bob Mc
    I'm writing a web crawler for a specific site. The application is a VB.Net Windows Forms application that is not using multiple threads - each web request is consecutive. However, after ten successful page retrievals every successive request times out. I have reviewed the similar questions already posted here on SO, and have implemented the recommended techniques into my GetPage routine, shown below: Public Function GetPage(ByVal url As String) As String Dim result As String = String.Empty Dim uri As New Uri(url) Dim sp As ServicePoint = ServicePointManager.FindServicePoint(uri) sp.ConnectionLimit = 100 Dim request As HttpWebRequest = WebRequest.Create(uri) request.KeepAlive = False request.Timeout = 15000 Try Using response As HttpWebResponse = DirectCast(request.GetResponse, HttpWebResponse) Using dataStream As Stream = response.GetResponseStream() Using reader As New StreamReader(dataStream) If response.StatusCode <> HttpStatusCode.OK Then Throw New Exception("Got response status code: " + response.StatusCode) End If result = reader.ReadToEnd() End Using End Using response.Close() End Using Catch ex As Exception Dim msg As String = "Error reading page """ & url & """. " & ex.Message Logger.LogMessage(msg, LogOutputLevel.Diagnostics) End Try Return result End Function Have I missed something? Am I not closing or disposing of an object that should be? It seems strange that it always happens after ten consecutive requests. Notes: In the constructor for the class in which this method resides I have the following: ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = 100 If I set KeepAlive to true, the timeouts begin after five requests. All the requests are for pages in the same domain. EDIT I added a delay between each web request of between two and seven seconds so that I do not appear to be "hammering" the site or attempting a DOS attack. However, the problem still occurs.

  • Pass data from one form to another on a seperate page

    - by Micanio
    I am building a price/distance calculator with Google Maps API and am trying to pass the info from the calculator to a booking form on a separate page. My first form has 2 submit buttons - one to make the calculation, and one to submit the relevant data to the booking form. I'm stuck trying to make the 2nd button work. Once the API calculation has been made, I get 4 values - From, To, Cost, Distance. I am trying to pass the From, To and Cost values into my booking form by clicking the second button. But I can;t seem to get it to work. I've tried POST and GET but I think I may have been doing something wrong with both. Any help is appreciated. • What am I doing wrong with HttpResponse content and headers when downloading a file?

    - by Slauma
    I want to download a PDF file from a SQL Server database which is stored in a binary column. There is a LinkButton on an aspx page. The event handler of this button looks like this: protected void LinkButtonDownload(object sender, EventArgs e) { ... byte[] aByteArray; // Read binary data from database into this ByteArray // aByteArray has the size: 55406 byte Response.ClearHeaders(); Response.ClearContent(); Response.BufferOutput = true; Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=" + "12345.pdf"); Response.ContentType = "application/pdf"; using (BinaryWriter aWriter = new BinaryWriter(Response.OutputStream)) { aWriter.Write(aByteArray, 0, aByteArray.Length); } } A "File Open/Save dialog" is offered in my browser. When I store this file "12345.pdf" to disk, the file has a size of 71523 Byte. The additional 16kB at the end of the PDF file are the HTML code of my page (as I can see when I view the file in an editor). I am confused because I was believing that ClearContent and ClearHeaders would ensure that the page content is not sent together with the file content. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for help!

  • 550 Error When I try to get the size of a file on an FTP

    - by Eric
    I'm trying to use an FtpWebRequest to get the size of a file on a company FTP. Yet whenever I try to get the response an exception is thrown. See the error details in the catch block in the code below. string uri = "ftp://ftp.domain.com/folder/folder/file.xxx"; FtpWebRequest sizeReq = (FtpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(uri); sizeReq.Method = WebRequestMethods.Ftp.GetFileSize; sizeReq.Credentials = cred; sizeReq.UsePassive = proj.ServerConfig.UsePassive; //true sizeReq.UseBinary = proj.ServerConfig.UseBinary; //true sizeReq.KeepAlive = proj.ServerConfig.KeepAlive; //false long size; try { //Exception thrown here when I try to get the response using (FtpWebResponse fileSizeResponse = (FtpWebResponse)sizeReq.GetResponse()) { size = fileSizeResponse.ContentLength; } } catch(WebException exp) { FtpWebResponse resp = (FtpWebResponse)exp.Response; MessageBox.Show(exp.Message); // "The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)." MessageBox.Show(exp.Status.ToString()); //ProtcolError MessageBox.Show(resp.StatusCode.ToString()); // ActionNotTakenFileUnavailable MessageBox.Show(resp.StatusDescription.ToString()); //"550 SIZE: Operation not permitted\r\n" } This code does work, however, when connected to my personal FTP. The StatusDescription of the response says that the operation is "not permitted". Could it be that my office FTP just wont allow for the querying of a file size? I've also tried listing the directory details, which will return the size, and have noticed that my office FTP reports the directory details in a different format then my personal FTP. Maybe this is the problem? //work ftp ListDirectoryDetails -rw-r--r-- 1 (?) user 12345 Nov 16 20:28 some file name.xxx //personal ftp ListDirectoryDetails -rw-r--r-- 1 user user 12345 Mar 13 some file name.xxx From reading this blog post I think that my personal ftp is returning a Unix formatted response, but my work is returning a windows formatted response. Maybe this is unrelated but I thought I'd mention it.
