  • Echo styles into the mashup of a google map and wordpress custom fields

    - by zac
    Using wordpress, I am pulling in a custom fields from specific posts to fill in the content for a google generated map. I am using this code var point = new GLatLng(48.5139,-123.150531); var marker = createMarker(point,"Lime Kiln State Park", '<?php $post_id = 182; $my_post = get_post($post_id); $title = $my_post->post_title; $snip = get_post_meta($post_id, 'mapExcerpt', true); echo $title; echo $snip; ?>') map.addOverlay(marker); I am trying to echo css style blocks but this causes a javascript error var point = new GLatLng(48.5139,-123.150531); var marker = createMarker(point,"Lime Kiln State Park", '<?php $post_id = 182; $my_post = get_post($post_id); $title = $my_post->post_title; $snip = get_post_meta($post_id, 'mapExcerpt', true); echo "<div class='theTitle'>"; echo $title; echo "</div>"; echo $snip; ?>') map.addOverlay(marker); I get the error missing ) after argument list and the output is var point = new GLatLng(48.5139,-123.150531); var marker = createMarker(point,"Lime Kiln State Park", '<div class='theTitle'>Site Title</div>Site excerpt') map.addOverlay(marker); Can someone please show me a more elegant (working) solution for this?

  • Transforming coordinates from an image control to the image source in WPF

    - by Gabriel
    I'm trying to learn WPF, so here's a simple question, I hope: I have a window that contains an Image element bound to a separate data object with user-configurable Stretch property <Image Name="imageCtrl" Source="{Binding MyImage}" Stretch="{Binding ImageStretch}" /> When the user moves the mouse over the image, I would like to determine the coordinates of the mouse with respect to the original image (before stretching/cropping that occurs when it is displayed in the control), and then do something with those coordinates (update the image). I know I can add an event-handler to the MouseMove event over the Image control, but I'm not sure how best to transform the coordinates: void imageCtrl_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { Point locationInControl = e.GetPosition(imageCtrl); Point locationInImage = ??? updateImage(locationInImage); } Now I know I could compare the size of Source to the ActualSize of the control, and then switch on imageCtrl.Stretch to compute the scalars and offsets on X and Y, and do the transform myself. But WPF has all the information already, and this seems like functionality that might be built-in to the WPF libraries somewhere. So I'm wondering: is there a short and sweet solution? Or do I need to write this myself? EDIT I'm appending my current, not-so-short-and-sweet solution. Its not that bad, but I'd be somewhat suprised if WPF didn't provide this functionality automatically: Point ImgControlCoordsToPixelCoords(Point locInCtrl, double imgCtrlActualWidth, double imgCtrlActualHeight) { if (ImageStretch == Stretch.None) return locInCtrl; Size renderSize = new Size(imgCtrlActualWidth, imgCtrlActualHeight); Size sourceSize = bitmap.Size; double xZoom = renderSize.Width / sourceSize.Width; double yZoom = renderSize.Height / sourceSize.Height; if (ImageStretch == Stretch.Fill) return new Point(locInCtrl.X / xZoom, locInCtrl.Y / yZoom); double zoom; if (ImageStretch == Stretch.Uniform) zoom = Math.Min(xZoom, yZoom); else // (imageCtrl.Stretch == Stretch.UniformToFill) zoom = Math.Max(xZoom, yZoom); return new Point(locInCtrl.X / zoom, locInCtrl.Y / zoom); }

  • Dependency Property on ValueConverter

    - by spoon16
    I'm trying to initialize a converter in the Resources section of my UserControl with a reference to one of the objects in my control. When I try to run the application I get an XAML parse exception. XAML: <UserControl.Resources> <converter:PointConverter x:Key="pointConverter" Map="{Binding ElementName=ThingMap}" /> </UserControl.Resources> <Grid> <m:Map x:Name="ThingMap" /> </Grid> Point Converter Class: public class PointConverter : DependencyObject, IValueConverter { public Microsoft.Maps.MapControl.Map Map { get { return (Microsoft.Maps.MapControl.Map)GetValue(MapProperty); } set { SetValue(MapProperty, value); } } // Using a DependencyProperty as the backing store for Map. This enables animation, styling, binding, etc... public static readonly DependencyProperty MapProperty = DependencyProperty.Register("Map", typeof(Microsoft.Maps.MapControl.Map), typeof(PointConverter), null); public object Convert(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { string param = (string)parameter; Microsoft.Maps.MapControl.Location location = value as Microsoft.Maps.MapControl.Location; if (location != null) { Point point = Map.LocationToViewportPoint(location); if (string.Compare(param.ToUpper(), "X") == 0) return point.X; else if (string.Compare(param.ToUpper(), "Y") == 0) return point.Y; return point; } return null; } public object ConvertBack(object value, Type targetType, object parameter, CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotImplementedException(); } }

  • JList - deselect when clicking an already selected item

    - by Peter
    If a selected index on a JList is clicked, I want it to de-select. In other words, clicking on the indices actually toggles their selection. Didn't look like this was supported, so I tried list.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent evt) { java.awt.Point point = evt.getPoint(); int index = list.locationToIndex(point); if (list.isSelectedIndex(index)) list.removeSelectionInterval(index, index); } }); The problem here is that this is being invoked after JList has already acted on the mouse event, so it deselects everything. So then I tried removing all of JList's MouseListeners, adding my own, and then adding all of the default listeners back. That didn't work, since JList would reselect the index after I had deselected it. Anyway, what I eventually came up with is MouseListener[] mls = list.getMouseListeners(); for (MouseListener ml : mls) list.removeMouseListener(ml); list.addMouseListener(new MouseAdapter() { public void mousePressed(MouseEvent evt) { java.awt.Point point = evt.getPoint(); final int index = list.locationToIndex(point); if (list.isSelectedIndex(index)) SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() { public void run() { list.removeSelectionInterval(index, index); } }); } }); for (MouseListener ml : mls) list.addMouseListener(ml); ... and that works. But I don't like it. Is there a better way?

  • correct fisheye distortion

    - by Will
    I have some points that describe positions in a picture taken with a fisheye lens. I've found this description of how to generate a fisheye effect, but not how to reverse it. How do you calculate the radial distance from the centre to go from fisheye to rectilinear? My function stub looks like this: Point correct_fisheye(const Point& p,const Size& img) { // to polar const Point centre = {img.width/2,img.height/2}; const Point rel = {p.x-centre.x,p.y-centre.y}; const double theta = atan2(rel.y,rel.x); double R = sqrt((rel.x*rel.x)+(rel.y*rel.y)); // fisheye undistortion in here please //... change R ... // back to rectangular const Point ret = Point(centre.x+R*cos(theta),centre.y+R*sin(theta)); fprintf(stderr,"(%d,%d) in (%d,%d) = %f,%f = (%d,%d)\n",p.x,p.y,img.width,img.height,theta,R,ret.x,ret.y); return ret; }

  • Setting up DrJava to work through Friedman / Felleisen "A Little Java"

    - by JDelage
    All, I'm going through the Friedman & Felleisen book "A Little Java, A Few Patterns". I'm trying to type the examples in DrJava, but I'm getting some errors. I'm a beginner, so I might be making rookie mistakes. Here is what I have set-up: public class ALittleJava { //ABSTRACT CLASS POINT abstract class Point { abstract int distanceToO(); } class CartesianPt extends Point { int x; int y; int distanceToO(){ return((int)Math.sqrt(x*x+y*y)); } CartesianPt(int _x, int _y) { x=_x; y=_y; } } class ManhattanPt extends Point { int x; int y; int distanceToO(){ return(x+y); } ManhattanPt(int _x, int _y){ x=_x; y=_y; } } } And on the main's side: public class Main{ public static void main (String [] args){ Point y = new ManhattanPt(2,8); System.out.println(y.distanceToO()); } } The compiler cannot find the symbols Point and ManhattanPt in the program. If I precede each by ALittleJava., I get another error in the main, i.e., an enclosing instance that contains ALittleJava.ManhattanPt is required I've tried to find ressources on the 'net, but the book must have a pretty confidential following and I couldn't find much. Thank you all. JDelage

  • Fast JSON serialization (and comparison with Pickle) for cluster computing in Python?

    - by user248237
    I have a set of data points, each described by a dictionary. The processing of each data point is independent and I submit each one as a separate job to a cluster. Each data point has a unique name, and my cluster submission wrapper simply calls a script that takes a data point's name and a file describing all the data points. That script then accesses the data point from the file and performs the computation. Since each job has to load the set of all points only to retrieve the point to be run, I wanted to optimize this step by serializing the file describing the set of points into an easily retrievable format. I tried using JSONpickle, using the following method, to serialize a dictionary describing all the data points to file: def json_serialize(obj, filename, use_jsonpickle=True): f = open(filename, 'w') if use_jsonpickle: import jsonpickle json_obj = jsonpickle.encode(obj) f.write(json_obj) else: simplejson.dump(obj, f, indent=1) f.close() The dictionary contains very simple objects (lists, strings, floats, etc.) and has a total of 54,000 keys. The json file is ~20 Megabytes in size. It takes ~20 seconds to load this file into memory, which seems very slow to me. I switched to using pickle with the same exact object, and found that it generates a file that's about 7.8 megabytes in size, and can be loaded in ~1-2 seconds. This is a significant improvement, but it still seems like loading of a small object (less than 100,000 entries) should be faster. Aside from that, pickle is not human readable, which was the big advantage of JSON for me. Is there a way to use JSON to get similar or better speed ups? If not, do you have other ideas on structuring this? (Is the right solution to simply "slice" the file describing each event into a separate file and pass that on to the script that runs a data point in a cluster job? It seems like that could lead to a proliferation of files). thanks.

  • correcting fisheye distortion programmatically

    - by Will
    I have some points that describe positions in a picture taken with a fisheye lens. I've found this description of how to generate a fisheye effect, but not how to reverse it. How do you calculate the radial distance from the centre to go from fisheye to rectilinear? My function stub looks like this: Point correct_fisheye(const Point& p,const Size& img) { // to polar const Point centre = {img.width/2,img.height/2}; const Point rel = {p.x-centre.x,p.y-centre.y}; const double theta = atan2(rel.y,rel.x); double R = sqrt((rel.x*rel.x)+(rel.y*rel.y)); // fisheye undistortion in here please //... change R ... // back to rectangular const Point ret = Point(centre.x+R*cos(theta),centre.y+R*sin(theta)); fprintf(stderr,"(%d,%d) in (%d,%d) = %f,%f = (%d,%d)\n",p.x,p.y,img.width,img.height,theta,R,ret.x,ret.y); return ret; } Alternatively, I could somehow convert the image from fisheye to rectilinear before finding the points, but I'm completely befuddled by the OpenCV documentation. Is there a straightforward way to do it in OpenCV, and does it perform well enough to do it to a live video feed?

  • Make winform run away from the mouse.

    - by JACK IN THE CRACK
    Okay so I'm trying to make a little gag program that will "run away" from the mouse. So, to get the mouse coordinates for the whole screen and not just the form control I had to create a little helper: static class MouseHelper { [DllImport("user32.dll")] [return: MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.Bool)] internal static extern bool GetCursorPos(ref Point pt); public static Point GetPosition() { Point w32Mouse = new Point(); GetCursorPos(ref w32Mouse); return w32Mouse; } } Now I thought I was going to use the MouseMove event... but that doesn't work for outside the form control either so I have an auto-enabled timer on a 10ms loop called timerMouseMove. public partial class Form1 : Form { public Form1() { InitializeComponent(); } private bool CollisionCheck() { Point win32Mouse = MouseHelper.GetPosition(); if (win32Mouse.X <= Location.X || win32Mouse.X >= (Location.X + Width)) return false; if (win32Mouse.Y <= Location.Y || win32Mouse.Y >= (Location.Y + Height)) return false; return true; } private void timerMouseMove_Tick(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (CollisionCheck()) Location = new Point(Location.X + 1, Location.Y + 1); } } So this works out nicely, at least I have the collision checking working and whatnot. But now, how should I go about figuring which side of the form the mouse has collided with, so that I can update its location to move in the opposite direction the mouse collides with it? And such halp

  • How do I utilize REST to post GPS data from an Android device into a Ruby on Rails application?

    - by joecan
    I am a student in the process a building an Android app that can post a GPS track into a Rails application. I would like to do things the "Rails" way and take advantage of the REST. My rails application basically has 3 models at this point: users, tracks, and points. A user has_many tracks and a track has_many points. A track also has a total distance. Points have a latitude and longitude. I have successfully been able to create an empty track with: curl -i -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/xml' -d '<track><distance>100</distance></track>' http://localhost:3000/users/1/tracks Whoo hoo! That is pretty cool. I am really impressed that rails do this. Just to see what would happen I tried the following: curl -i -X POST -H 'Content-Type: application/xml -d '<track><distance>100</distance><points><point><lat>3</lat><lng>2</lng></point></points></track>' http://localhost:3000/users/1/tracks Fail! The server spits back: Processing TracksController#create (for 127.0.0.1 at 2010-04-14 00:03:25) [POST] Parameters: {"track"={"points"={"point"={"lng"="2", "lat"="3"}}, "distance"="100"}, "user_id"="1"} User Load (0.6ms) SELECT * FROM "users" WHERE ("users"."id" = 1) ActiveRecord::AssociationTypeMismatch (Point(#-620976268) expected, got Array(#-607740138)): app/controllers/tracks_controller.rb:47:in `create' It seems my tracks_controller doesn't like or understand what it's getting from the params object in my tracks_controller.rb: def create @track = @user.tracks.build(params[:track]) My xml might be wrong, but at least Rails seems to be expecting a Point from it. Is there anyway I can fix TracksController.create so that it will be able to parse xml of a track with nested multiple points? Or is there another way I should be doing this entirely?

  • Label on the Chart using Microsoft Chart controls

    - by azamsharp
    I am creating a 3d chart using Microsoft Chart controls. Here is the image: I want to show the point on the top of each bar graph. Like for Exam 1 on top of bar chart it should show 2 (as in 2 points) etc. Here is the code: private void BindData() { var exams = new List<Exam>() { new Exam() { Name = "Exam 1", Point = 10 }, new Exam() { Name = "Exam 2", Point = 12 }, new Exam() { Name = "Exam 3", Point = 15 }, new Exam() { Name = "Exam 4", Point = 2 } }; var series = ExamsChart.Series["ExamSeries"]; series.YValueMembers = "Point"; series.XValueMember = "Name"; //series.MarkerStyle = System.Web.UI.DataVisualization.Charting.MarkerStyle.Circle; //series.MarkerSize = 20; //series.LegendText = "hellow"; //series.Label = "something"; var chartAreas = ExamsChart.ChartAreas["ChartArea1"]; ExamsChart.DataSource = exams; ExamsChart.DataBind(); } and here is the html code: <asp:Chart ID="ExamsChart" Width="600" Height="320" runat="server"> <Titles> <asp:Title Text="Exam Report" /> </Titles> <Series> <asp:Series Name="ExamSeries" ChartType="Column"> </asp:Series> </Series> <ChartAreas> <asp:ChartArea Name="ChartArea1"> <Area3DStyle Enable3D="true" WallWidth="10" /> </asp:ChartArea> </ChartAreas> </asp:Chart>

  • Rails: link_to_remote prototype helper with :with option

    - by Syed Aslam
    I am trying to grab the current value of a drop down list with Prototype and passing it along using :with like this <%= link_to_remote "today", :update => "choices", :url => { :action => "check_availability" } , :with => "'practitioner='+$F('practitioner')&'clinic='+$F('clinic')&'when=today'", :loading => "spinner.show(); $('submit').disable();", :complete => "spinner.hide(); $('submit').enable();" %> However, this is not working as expected. I am unable to access parameters in the controller as the link_to_remote helper is sending parameters like this: Parameters: {"succ"=>"function () {\n return this + 1;\n}", "action"=>"check_availability", "round"=>"function () {\n return __method.apply(null, [this].concat($A(arguments)));\n}", "ceil"=>"function () {\n return __method.apply(null, [this].concat($A(arguments)));\n}", "floor"=>"function () {\n return __method.apply(null, [this].concat($A(arguments)));\n}", "times"=>"function (iterator, context) {\n $R(0, this, true).each(iterator, context);\n return this;\n}", "toPaddedString"=>"function (length, radix) {\n var string = this.toString(radix || 10);\n return \"0\".times(length - string.length) + string;\n}", "toColorPart"=>"function () {\n return this.toPaddedString(2, 16);\n}", "abs"=>"function () {\n return __method.apply(null, [this].concat($A(arguments)));\n}", "controller"=>"main"} Where am I going wrong? Is there a better way to do this?

  • postgres - ERROR: operator does not exist

    Again, I have a function that works fine locally, but moving it online yields a big fat error... Taking a cue from a response in which someone had pointed out the number of arguments I was passing wasn't accurate, I double-checked in this situation to be certain that I am passing 5 arguments to the function itself... Query failed: ERROR: operator does not exist: point <@> point HINT: No operator matches the given name and argument type(s). You may need to add explicit type casts. The query is this: BEGIN; SELECT zip_proximity_sum('zc', (SELECT g.lat FROM geocoded g LEFT JOIN masterfile m ON g.recordid = m.id WHERE m.zip = '10050' ORDER BY m.id LIMIT 1), (SELECT g.lon FROM geocoded g LEFT JOIN masterfile m ON g.recordid = m.id WHERE m.zip = '10050' ORDER BY m.id LIMIT 1), (SELECT m.zip FROM geocoded g LEFT JOIN masterfile m ON g.recordid = m.id WHERE m.zip = '10050' ORDER BY m.id LIMIT 1) ,10); The PG function is this: CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION zip_proximity_sum(refcursor, numeric, numeric, character, numeric) RETURNS refcursor AS $BODY$ BEGIN OPEN $1 FOR SELECT r.zip, point($2,$3) <@> point(g.lat, g.lon) AS distance FROM geocoded g LEFT JOIN masterfile r ON g.recordid = r.id WHERE (geo_distance( point($2,$3),point(g.lat,g.lon)) < $5) ORDER BY r.zip, distance; RETURN $1; END; $BODY$ LANGUAGE 'plpgsql' VOLATILE COST 100;

  • substitution cypher with different alphabet length

    - by seanizer
    I would like to implement a simple substitution cypher to mask private ids in URLs I know how my IDs will look like (combination of upperchase ascii, digits and underscore), and they will be rather long, as they are composed keys. I would like to use a longer alphabet to shorten the resulting codes (I'd like to use upper and lower case ascii letters, digits and nothing else). So my incoming alphabet would be [A-Z0-9_] (37 chars) and my outgoing alphabet would be [A-Za-z0-9] (62 chars) so a compression of almost 50% would be available. let's say my URLs look like this: /my/page/GFZHFFFZFZTFZTF_24_F34 and I want them to look like this instead: /my/page/Ft32zfegZFV5 Obviously both arrays would be shuffled to bring some random order in. This does not have to be secure. if someone figures it out: fine, but I don't want the scheme to be obvious. My desired solution would be to convert the string to an integer representation of radix 37, convert the radix to 62 and use the second alphabet to write out that number. is there any sample code available that does something similar? Integer.parseInt ( http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/api/java/lang/Integer.html#parseInt%28java.lang.String,%20int%29 ) has some similar logic, but it is hard-coded to use standard digit behavior Any hints? I am using java to implement this but code or pseudo-code in any other language is of course also helpful

  • problem with drag and drop for the winform using c#

    - by karthik
    I dont have the title bar in my winform, so i need to code drag and drop for the entire form. I am using the below code to do it, which works fine. I have two panels in my form, PanelA and PanelB. During the startup i show PanelA where the drag and drop works perfectly. Later when the user clicks the button in PannelA, i need to make PanelA visible false and show the PanelB My drag and drop is not working when the PanelB is loaded in form. Whats the problem here ? private void SerialPortScanner_MouseUp(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.drag = false; } private void SerialPortScanner_MouseDown(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.drag = true; this.start_point = new Point(e.X, e.Y); } private void SerialPortScanner_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (this.drag) { Point p1 = new Point(e.X, e.Y); Point p2 = this.PointToScreen(p1); Point p3 = new Point(p2.X - this.start_point.X, p2.Y - this.start_point.Y); this.Location = p3; } }

  • Silverlight 3 ArcSegment to always draw circle's

    - by kapaboo
    Hi everyone, Ok, my arcSegment must always draw Circle's. For this reason I calculate the Arc's Width with the following formula: arcXRadius = (4 * Math.Pow(height, 2) + Math.Pow(distanceArcPoints, 2)) / (8 * height); so Arcs.Size = (arcXRadius,height) But seems that the height is scaled down when drawn. I want to add a small Circle to the Arc's middle (highest point) so when you drag it it changes the arc Height but also changes the Width so it will remain a circle. Here's how I calculate the Circle's (highest) point: Point middlePoint = GetMiddlePoint(arcPointA,arcPointB); double arcYRadius = arcSegment.Size.Height; if (arcYRadius <= 0) return middlePoint; double angle = arcSegment.RotationAngle; Point ellinewPoint = new Point(); ellinewPoint.X = Math.Cos((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.X; ellinewPoint.Y = Math.Sin((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.Y; Until Arc's.Size.Height Property gets Closer to the Width my Circle is not at the right Point. So maybe someone can give me a hint or tell me what am I doing wrong. Cheers, kapaboo

  • How can I correctly calculate the direction for a moving object?

    - by Jakub Hampl
    I'm solving the following problem: I have an object and I know its position now and its position 300ms ago. I assume the object is moving. I have a point to which I want the object to get. What I need is to get the angle from my current object to the destination point in such a format that I know whether to turn left or right. The idea is to assume the current angle from the last known position and the current position. I'm trying to solve this in MATLAB. I've tried using several variations with atan2 but either I get the wrong angle in some situations (like when my object is going in circles) or I get the wrong angle in all situations. Examples of code that screws up: a = new - old; b = dest - new; alpha = atan2(a(2) - b(2), a(1) - b(1); where new is the current position (eg. x = 40; y = 60; new = [x y];), old is the 300ms old position and dest is the destination point. Edit Here's a picture to demonstrate the problem with a few examples: In the above image there are a few points plotted and annotated. The black line indicates our estimated current facing of the object. If the destination point is dest1 I would expect an angle of about 88°. If the destination point is dest2 I would expect an angle of about 110°. If the destination point is dest3 I would expect an angle of about -80°.

  • Touch draw in Quatz 2D/Core Graphics

    - by OgreSwamp
    Hello, I'm trying to implement "hand draw tool". At the moment algorythm looks like that (I don't insert any code because methods are quite big, will try to explain an idea): Drawing In touchesStarted: method I create NSMutableArray *pointsArray and add point into it. Call setNeedsDisplay: method. In touchesMoved: method I calculate points between last added point from the pointsArray and current point. Add all points to the pointsArray. Call setNeedsDisplay: method. In touchesFinished: event I calculate points between last added point from the array and current point. Set flag touchesWereFinished. Call setNeedsDisplay:. Render: drawRect: method checks is pointsArray != nil and is there any data in it. If there is - it starts to traw circles in each point of this array. If flag touchesWereFinished is set - save current context to the UIImage, release pointsArray, set it to nil and reset the flag. There are a lot disadvantages of this method: It is slow It becomes extremely slow when user touches and move finger for long time. Array becomes enormous "Lines" composed by circles are ugly I would like to change my algorithm to make it bit faster and line smoother. In result I would like to have lines like on the picture at following URL (sorry, not enough reputation to insert an image): http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_r5VzEAUYXJ4/SrOYp8tJCPI/AAAAAAAAAMw/ZwDKXiHlhV0/s320/SketchBook+Mobile(4).png Can you advice me, ho I can draw lines this way (smooth and slim on the edges)? I thought to draw circles with alpha gradient on the edges (to make lines smoother), but it will be extremely slowly IMHO. Thanks for help

  • How can I get an NPC to move randomly in XNA?

I have two panels in my form, PanelA and PanelB. During the startup I show PanelA where the dragging works perfectly. Later when the user clicks the button in PanelA, I need to make PanelA invisible and show PanelB However, the dragging does not work when PanelB is shown. What's the problem here? private void SerialPortScanner_MouseUp(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.drag = false; } private void SerialPortScanner_MouseDown(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { this.drag = true; this.start_point = new Point(e.X, e.Y); } private void SerialPortScanner_MouseMove(object sender, MouseEventArgs e) { if (this.drag) { Point p1 = new Point(e.X, e.Y); Point p2 = this.PointToScreen(p1); Point p3 = new Point(p2.X - this.start_point.X, p2.Y - this.start_point.Y); this.Location = p3; } }

  • Should constant contructor aguments be passed by reference or value?

    - by Mike
    When const values are passed to an object construct should they be passed by reference or value? If you pass by value and the arguments are immediately fed to initializes are two copies being made? Is this something that the compiler will automatically take care of. I have noticed that all textbook examples of constructors and intitializers pass by value but this seems inefficient to me. class Point { public: int x; int y; Point(const int _x, const int _y) : x(_x), y(_y) {} }; int main() { const int a = 1, b = 2; Point p(a,b); Point q(3,5); cout << p.x << "," << p.y << endl; cout << q.x << "," << q.y << endl; } vs. class Point { public: int x; int y; Point(const int& _x, const int& _y) : x(_x), y(_y) {} }; Both compile and do the same thing but which is correct?

  • In C, when do structure names have to be included in structure initializations and definitions?

    - by Tyler
    I'm reading The C Programming Language by K&R and in the section on structures I came across these code snippets: struct maxpt = { 320, 200 }; and /* addpoints: add two points */ struct addpoint(struct point p1, struct point p2) { p1.x += p2.x; p1.y += p2.y; return p1; } In the first case, it looks like it's assigning the values 320 and 200 to the members of the variable maxpt. But I noticed the name of the struct type is missing (shouldn't it be "struct struct_name maxpt = {320, 200}"? In the second case, the function return type is just "struct" and not "struct name_of_struct". I don't get why they don't include the struct names - how does it know what particular type of structure it's dealing with? My confusion is compounded by the fact that in previous snippets they do include the structure name, such as in the return type for the following function, where it's "struct point" and not just "struct". Why do they include the name in some cases and not in others? /* makepoint: make a point from x and y components */ struct point makepoint(int x, int y) { struct point temp; temp.x = x; temp.y = y; return temp; }

  • How can pointers to functions point to something that doesn't exist in memory yet? Why do prototypes have different addresses?

    - by Kacy Raye
    To my knowledge, functions do not get added to the stack until run-time after they are called in the main function. So how can a pointer to a function have a function's memory address if it doesn't exist in memory? For example: using namespace std; #include <iostream> void func() { } int main() { void (*ptr)() = func; cout << reinterpret_cast<void*>(ptr) << endl; //prints 0x8048644 even though func never gets added to the stack } Also, this next question is a little less important to me, so if you only know the answer to my first question, then that is fine. But anyway, why does the value of the pointer ( the memory address of the function ) differ when I declare a function prototype and implement the function after main? In the first example, it printed out 0x8048644 no matter how many times I ran the program. In the next example, it printed out 0x8048680 no matter how many times I ran the program. For example: using namespace std; #include <iostream> void func(); int main() { void ( *ptr )() = func; cout << reinterpret_cast<void*>(ptr) << endl; } void func(){ }

  • The Whole Enchilada — Fusion Supply Chain in the Cloud

    - by Kathryn Perry
    A guest post by Tyra Crockett, Senior Manager at Oracle No other vendor can offer everything in the cloud the way Oracle can. You can get HR from Workday and CRM from Salesforce, but you can get the whole enchilada—HCM, CRM and ERP—all from Oracle on one platform. If you’re thinking about using Oracle's Cloud Services to implement the newest Oracle Fusion Supply Chain applications, this post is for you. Point #1: The Oracle Cloud Applications Services portfolio includes ERP cloud services which are flexible and can adapt to fill your supply chain needs. For example, you might be opening a small distribution facility in California, but don’t have the time or IT resources to warrant a full scale supply chain implementation. You can use Oracle’s Cloud to implement the Oracle Fusion Supply Chain applications you need without an increase in IT staff or hardware. Then as your business grows, you can add more features and applications to your cloud.   Point #2: Whether you’re implementing a slice of the Fusion Procurement pie, or the entire ERP portfolio, you want to be up and running fast with low upfront costs and investment risks. That’s where you can trust a world-class technology organization like Oracle. Your SaaS subscription-based deployment model will take away the headaches associated with determining your software costs. You also will be able to eliminate expensive customizations and configure your deployment as you like, saving you time and money during the initial stages and upon upgrade. Point #3: Another great benefit of operating your Oracle Fusion Supply Chain in the cloud is the opportunity to standardize your processes across your entire supply chain. You can institute processes in San Francisco and be confident they will be followed in Mexico City and Hong Kong. Point #4: If data security is a concern – and it is for most of us – Oracle-managed cloud services give you the comfort of knowing that your data will always be there when you need it. You will not have to manage the IT services associated with patching and upgrade. They will be taken care of automatically. This enables you to focus on what you do best: managing your business. Point #5: Cloud services aren’t an either/or proposition. You might have very good business reasons for choosing a hybrid model -- running some applications in the cloud and others on premise. That allows you to leverage your own IT department, when and where you need to, and shift focus when necessary. I urge you to take a hard look at the Oracle Fusion Supply Chain applications running in the cloud. These solutions running alongside your existing legacy systems can solve your toughest business challenges as you move forward in the 21st century.
