• Do backlinks to blocked content add value?

  We've been debating the following SEO question at our office: If you block bot access to a page either via robots.txt or on-page noindex metadata, does that negate the value of any backlinks to that page? We have a client who wants to block some event booking form pages from being indexed as each booking form page has a unique URL parameter and the pages are "clogging up" the Google index; however lots of websites link to those booking form pages and we wouldn't want to lose the value of those links. Any opinions welcomed.

  Hi everyone, I'm trying to use the Visual Studio 2010 Express editions to set up an ASP.NET MVC 2 Web Application using SqlExpress + Entity Framework as the data access. I have both the "C# Edition" and "Web Developer Edition" installed. If I try to add a data source using the "C# edition", I'm missing the "Microsoft SQL Server" data source type. but Visual Studio 2008 Professional has it. as noted by another StackOverflow question, the "Web Developer Edition" has this. However, the Web Developer Edition doesn't support the Entity Framework items: . I'd want to stick with only the Express Editions. Is my use case one that Microsoft forgot about? What can I do here to use SqlExpress + MVC 2 + Entity Framework? Thanks! -Mike

• Transforming TT files in MsBuild

  I need to build a DSL Solution using MsBuild and want to be able to transform the TT files, I have tried the guide on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee847423(VS.100).aspx but I am getting the following errors: Failed to resolve include text for file:{0} and also Loading the include file '{0}' returned a null or empty string. There is a page on MSDN which has these issues and there resolutions : http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb126242(VS.100).aspx but don't really give me enough information to resolve the issue. One thing to note in the error it has the following path: Error 72 Failed to resolve include text for file:C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\Dsl\ToolboxHelper.tt. Line=-1, Column=-1 Dsl but the location of the actual TT file is C:\source\XXXXXXXX\Dsl\GeneratedCode\ToolboxHelper.tt

  I have about 160 SSIS packages that I'm trying to upgrade from 2005 to 2008. When I run SSISUpgrade.exe on them, I get the following error messages on many of the packages: Error 0xc0209303: ...: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDB_NOPROVIDER_64BIT_ERROR. The requested OLE DB provider MICROSOFT.JET.OLEDB.4.0 is not registered -- perhaps no 64-bit provider is available. enter code here`Error code: 0x00000000. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Service Components" Hresult: 0x80040154 Description: "Class not registered". This fellow says that to fix this I need to set the run64bitruntime debugging property to False. However each of these packages exists outside of a project file. How can I set this property without having a project file?

  I went to http://www.asp.net/mvc/ to try to install ASP.NET MVC. I didn't know, but MVC is now at version 2. There's a nifty thing called the Microsoft "Web Platform Installer" (WPI) which basically is a small installer-driver tool that presents a menu of things I might want to install, to do web things on Windows. On the menu are things like ASPNET MVC2, but also Drupal, PHP, Joomla, and a bunch of other things. From http://www.asp.net/mvc/, when I click on the link that says "Install MVC", it resolves to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=185037, which then pops up the WPI. But Then! I get an error dialog that reads "Installing ASPNET MVC2 requires VS2008 SP1". But I know that I have VS2008 SP1. What gives?

• unable to connect to database on a networked drive

  Hi, I'm trying to connect to an access database from a php script using ODBC. When I put the db on my local c: drive create a system DSN i can connect no problem, but when it's on the networked drive I get the error: Warning: odbc_connect() [function.odbc-connect]: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] '(unknown)' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the file resides., SQL state S1009 in SQLConnect in C:\wamp\www\suppliers\furniture.php on line 3 Ok so I'm guessing it's permissions somewhere anyone know specifically what/where? • Programmers and Database Professionals in Performance Based Companies

  Anybody here work for a company (or know of someone that does) in the fields of programming or anything related to DBs and not have set work hours? Where you are paid for performance rather than how many hours you sit in a chair at the office? Any project / company I have been apart of always has pretty strict primary hours with the "great opportunity" / expectation to stay until the job is done. Is this type of flexibility really feasible in a group environment in these fields? Would pay for performance work within a company in these fields? With having strict primary hours I notice a lot of inefficiencies. Some weeks or days there is only so much that can be done (for whatever the reason may be) and if your work is done it doesn't help moral to force someone to stay for 8 hrs/day or 40hrs/week if the next week they may have to pull a 60+hr work week. I know that a lot of flexibility can come from working independently or as a consultant so this question really does not encompass those types of positions.

• System displays "File system maintenance error, press ctrl+d" while booting

  In my office I've Ubuntu 8.10 desktop installed and it's running for a long time. When ever the system is started, I'll get a file system maintenance error and something it's prompted for the root password or (press ctrl+d to continue). After pressing Ctrl+D the system normally boots up. I could not resolve this issue for a long time and I think something should be done in the fstab file. I'm not sure to do anything and expecting the experts here to help to perfectly fix this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

  Hello! I have in my office, a Konica Minolta bizhub 211 multifunction printer, it works well with windows workstations... It has a lot of good features, like duplex... I haven't found any drivers for UNIX, so I'm looking for alternative methods, how can we make it useable in Ubuntu. I'm thinking on some windows based server, or what I know... I wrote here requesting for drivers: ubuntu.hu, linuxforums.org, forums.debian.net, ubuntuforums.org; and also to the manufacturer, but they said only, that "the first PostScript supported printer is only bizhub 223", so they don't care that thing.   In case you didn’t notice, VS2010 adds a new property to assembly references in the properties window: Embed Interop Types: This property was introduced as a way to overcome the pain of deploying Primary Interop Assemblies. Read that blog post, it will help understand why you DON’T need it when doing VS extensibility (VSX) work. It's generally advisable when doing VSX development NOT to use Embed Interop Types, which is a feature intended mostly for office PIA scenarios where the PIA assemblies are HUGE and had to be shipped with your app. This is NEVER the case with VSX authoring. All interop assemblies you reference (EnvDTE, VS.Shell, etc.) are ALWAYS already there in the users' machine, and you NEVER need to distribute them. So embedding those types only increases your assembly size without a single benefit to you (the extension developer/author).... Read full article

If you create this window in XAML, you can see that when you don't specify a width for the window, it wraps the text in a single column, one letter at a time. Is there something I'm missing? Are you missing references to Microsoft.CSharp.dll and System.Core.dll? C:\Source\DotNet\SqlSmoke\SqlSmoke\UserControls\ScriptUserControl.cs 84 73 SqlSmoke However, when I downgraded the app from version 4.0 of the framework to 3.5 (because our users only hae 3.5 and don't have rights to install 4.0). when I did this, the reference to "Microsoft.CSharp" was broken. Can I rewrite the VB.NET command in C# using syntax that is valid in C# 3.5 as I was able to in VB.NET? What would the syntax be?

  I want to perform JDBC SQL queries on a MDE Access file. I've set up the data source ODBC and everything worked well for a MDE file. Now, I'm working with a newer version of the MDE file, and here is the result: java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][Driver ODBC Microsoft Access] Cannont read record. Read authorization unavailable for "tbl_mytable". If I open the MDE with Access Runtime I am asked for a password, and after leaving a blank password I can see all the data. Of course, "tbl_mytable" does exist inside the database.
