• Proper usage (best practices) of Browsable attribute in .NET for runtime grid component behavior

  I understand how Browsable attribute is supposed to work. It's supposed to hide a property from showing up in a PropertyGrid in design time. It also has another effect in that it will stop a Property from showing up in components such as Grids, or specifically Infragistics WinGrid. I am not sure if it has this behaviour on regular Windows Forms grids. This works, but it doesn't sound like Browsable is being use as intended when being used for 'Run time' displaying of a property on a grid component. Any literature from Microsoft on proper use. Even though it works, I don't want to use this attribute to hide columns on a grid bound to a business object if it's not indeed the correct usage of the attribute, but rather something some grid vendors decided to use to determine property visibility on their grids.

  I'm trying to use MODI to OCR a window's program. Why can MODI handle the original bitmap but not the smaller version taken from it?

• My embedded resource has mysteriously vanished from the assembly, vb.net vs2010

  I have an application that has a .sql file in it. The sql file is set to Embedded Resource. When I run the following code, I get an empty string array indicating there are no embedded resources.   I've got a report form designer written long ago for a database project. It used a lot of winapi magic hence i was forced to rewrite some parts 'in proper way'. Thanks to some articles from MSDN magazine (here and here) and CodeProject i was able to implement designer surface, toolbox and undo/redo engine. Every resource i discovered on the topic so far is a bit outdated. Can you point to fresh/comprehensive article? Code from article mentioned above seems not working. MenuCommandService.ShowContextMenu is called but nothing appears since there aren't any DesignerVerbs in globalVerbs collection. Should i add 'standard' ones, corresponded to designer actions such as cut/paste, manually? If yes, how can i accomplish this?

• C# .NET: Descending comparison of a SortedDictionary?

  I'm want a IDictionary<float, foo> that returns the larges values of the key first. private IDictionary<float, foo> layers = new SortedDictionary<float, foo>(new DescendingComparer<float>()); class DescendingComparer<T> : IComparer<T> where T : IComparable<T> { public int Compare(T x, T y) { return -y.CompareTo(x); } } However, this returns values in order of the smallest first. I feel like I'm making a stupid mistake here. Just to see what would happen, I removed the - sign from the comparator: public int Compare(T x, T y) { return y.CompareTo(x); } But I got the same result. This reinforces my intuition that I'm making a stupid error. This is the code that accesses the dictionary: foreach (KeyValuePair<float, foo> kv in sortedLayers) { // ... } UPDATE: This works, but is too slow to call as frequently as I need to call this method: IOrderedEnumerable<KeyValuePair<float, foo>> sortedLayers = layers.OrderByDescending(kv => kv.Key); foreach (KeyValuePair<float, ICollection<IGameObjectController>> kv in sortedLayers) { // ... } UPDATE: I put a break point in the comparator that never gets hit as I add and remove kv pairs from the dictionary.   I have a datagridview(dgv) with a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn(colLocation) colLocation.AutoComplete = False colLocation.HeaderText = "Stored to" colLocation.DataSource = DB.getLocation() colLocation.DisplayMember = "description" colLocation.ValueMember = "id" I added the colLocation to dgv. "descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item. The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox. Any suggestion? Updated: I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.   hi, I've got problem. I'm using ListView to show some data and I need to make two lines in one row. I've found solution to make row higher by adding ImageList with specified height and then I add Environment.NewLine to my text. It works in Vista and 7 but in XP instead of new line there are shown squares. I've been trying to add "\n" "\r\n" and ASCII char 10 but ther were still squares! After few days I still don't know what's wrong and I need your help.

• Huge dataset point in polygon in .net (collision detection)

  I have a pretty big mesh with polygons, usually triangles but sometimes rectangles. Each point in my mesh has a value (value has nothing to do with coordinates). Now I am creating a second mesh in the same coordinate-space as the old mesh. I now want to interpolate out values for all points (vertices) in the new mesh using the values from the old mesh. Now I could loop each polygon in the new mesh and detect which old vertices are in each polygon by making 2d collision detection (altho even this I don't get to function properly so if anyone has simple and fast code for 2d collision detection (triangle is enough) I would gladly see it). However to my main point again. looping each old vertice for each new polygon seems less than efficient. is there a better way?

I need to compare the string with numbers in a pair and delete those form that string. e.g - 6125223659587412563265... till 102 numbers that compare with this string- first set - 61 new string = 25223659587412563265 second set - 36 new string = 252259587412563265 and so on. the set of numbers shall go to maximum of 51 pairs = 102, which shall give an end result of string = "" How can i achieve this in a loop?

• A very weired problem with texbox control in C# .net

  Well i know textbox is a very simple user control, perhaps the first input control ever made. I have been facing a very frustrating problem with this simple control. I programatically add a textbox in my user control. From ui i am able to edit it like a normal textbox. however, i am not able to read the user inputed value in the program. my program all the time sees the old value with which my text box was initialized. i textchange event getting triggered but the value never gets updated. This seemingly looks to be some innocuous bug in the code, but the program is very simple and it does not seem to be having any bug. Any guidelines on this issue?

• "User Friendly" .net compatible Regex/Text matching tools?

  Currently in our software we provide a hook where we call a DLL built by our clients to parse information out of documents we are processing (the DLL takes in some text (or a file) and returns a list of name/value pairs). e.g. We're given a Word doc or Text file to Archive. We do various things to the file, and call a DLL that will return "pertinent" information about the file. Among other things we store that "pertinent" data for posterity. What is considered "pertinent" depends on the client and the type of the document, we don't care, we get it and store it. I've been asked to develop a user friendly "something" that will allow a non-programmer user to "configure" how to get this data from a plain text document (<humor>The user story ends with the helpful suggestion/query "We could use regex for this?"</humor>) It's safe to assume that a list of regex's isn't going to cut this, I've written some of these parsers for customers, the regex's to do these would be hedious and some of them can't be done by regex's. Also one of the requirements above is "user friendly" which negates anything that has users seeing or editing regex expressions. As you can guess, I don't have a fortune of time to do this, and am wondering is there anything out there that I can plug in to our app that has a nice front end and does exactly what I need? :) No? Whadda mean no! . . . sigh Ok then failing that, anything out there that "visually" builds regex's and/or other pattern matching expressions, and then allows one to run those expressions against some text? The MS BRE will do what I want, but I need something prettier that looks less like code. Thanks guys,

  Hi. I can not make NHibernate 2.1 work in machines without framework 3.X (basically, windows 2000 SP4, although it happens with XP too). NHibernate doc do no mention this. Maybe you can help?   I have following in entity framework Table - Country Fields List item Country_ID Dialing_Code ISO_Alpha2 ISO_Alpha3 ISO_Full I would like to map only selected fields from this entity model to my domain class. My domain model class is public class DomainCountry { public int Country_ID { get; set; } public string Dialing_Code { get; set; } public string ISO_3166_1_Alpha_2 { get; set; } } The following will work however insert or update is not possible. In order to get insert or update we need to use ObjectSet< but it will not support in my case. IQueryable<DomainCountry> countries = context.Countries.Select( c => new DomainCountry { Country_ID = c.Country_Id, Dialing_Code = c.Dialing_Code, ISO_3166_1_Alpha_2 = c.ISO_3166_1_Alpha_2 }); It will be really fantastic could someone provide a nice solution for this. • Vietnamese character in .NET Console Application (UTF-8)

  Im trying to write down an UTF8 string (Vietnamese) into C# Console but no success. Im running on windows 7. I tried to use the Encoding class that convert string to char[] to byte[] and then to String, but no help, the string is input directly fron the database. Here is some example Tôi tên là Ð?c, cu?c s?ng th?t vui v? tuy?t v?i It does not show the special character like : Ð or ?... instead it show up ?, much worse with the Encoding class. Does anyone can try this out or know about this problem?   Hello, I have a folder with .txt files in it. How can i make my menuitem get those .txt files and put the filenames in the menuitem, so that it creates a list of all .txt files in that folder. So when i put a .txt in the folder the program automaticly creates the menu item. Does someone knows how to do this, or perhaps an example?

  I found a great tutorial on performing a faceted search. http://www.devatwork.nl/articles/lucenenet/faceted-search-and-drill-down-lucenenet/ This article does not explain how to retrieve the narrowed available attributes to filter from (for further drill down). Lets say I am looking for planners that are red. When I perform the faceted search, I want to return all available attributes to filter from that are red. Then when I add a "weekly format" filter, I want the attribute list to get even smaller, containing only filters available for the segmented group.

  I would like to serialize and deserialize mixed data into XML. After some searches I found out that there were two ways of doing it: System.Runtime.Serialization.Formatters.Soap.SoapFormatter and System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer. However, neither turned out to match my requirements, since: SoapFormatter doesn't support serialization of generic types XmlSerializer refuses to serialize types that implement IDictionary, not to mention that it's far less easy-to-use than "normal" serialization (e.g. see this SO question) I'm wondering if there exists an implementation that doesn't have these limitations? I have found attempts (for example CustomXmlSerializer and YAXLib as suggested in a related SO question), but they don't seem to work either. I was thinking about writing such serializer myself (though it certainly doesn't seem to be a very easy task), but then I find myself limited by the CLR, as I cannot create object instances of types that won't have a paramaterless constructor, even if I'm using reflection. I recall having read somewhere that implementations in System.Runtime.Serialization somehow bypass the normal object creation mechanism when deserializing objects, though I'm not sure. Any hints of how could this be done? Could somebody please point me to the right direction with this?

  Hi, I'm trying to deserialize an XML that comes from a web service but I do not know how to tell the serializer how to handlke this piece of xml: <Movimientos> <Movimientos> <NOM_ASOC>pI22E7P30KWB9KeUnI+JlMRBr7biS0JOJKo1JLJCy2ucI7n3MTFWkY5DhHyoPrWs</NOM_ASOC> <FEC1>RZq60KwjWAYPG269X4r9lRZrjbQo8eRqIOmE8qa5p/0=</FEC1> <IDENT_CLIE>IYbofEiD+wOCJ+ujYTUxgsWJTnGfVU+jcQyhzgQralM=</IDENT_CLIE> </Movimientos> <Movimientos> As you can see, the child tag uses the same tag as its parent, I suppose this is wrong however the webservice is provided by an external company and that wont change it, is there any way or any library to tidy up XML or how can I use an attribute on my class so that the serializer gets it right? thanks for any help.
