  • Will backup using rsync preserve ACLs?

    I am using backuppc to backup my server. The backups are done using rsyncd. Currently, I am not using ACLs, but I am think it is good to activate it to have finer control over permissions. My question: Will backing up my files using rsync preserve the defined ACLs? BTW, I read an article about ACLs. They are saying that ubuntu does not support ACLs with tar. Is this real/old or not? I may not have this problem if I am using rsync. Is this right?

    I am writing the documentation for a piece of software which I have made but I don't understand what it means in some aspects. It asks me to write about backup procedures but what exactly does this mean? Does this mean like backing up the database on another hosting service or something else entirely?     Hi there, I'm working on an iPhone app that lets the user draw using GL. I used the GLPaint sample code project as a firm foundation, but now I want to add the ability for the user to load one of their previous drawings and continue working on it. I know how to get the framebuffer contents and save it as a UIImage. Is there a way for me to take the UIImage and tell GL to draw that? Any help is much appreciated.

He said he wanted to keep his (legit) copy of Adobe Premiere/After Effects and a few videos he edited. He doesn't have the install CDs so I know the software he paid thousands for in 2007 is gone.     I recently installed DHCP on my 2008R2 Server and now Backup Exec and WBAdmin/WSB is having System State issues. Essentially, after some research, I came across a handy tool called VSHADOW which has allowed me to output all the files (and their respective directories) to a text file. However I can't find where I would change this path, I assume in the registry but I've had no luck finding the key !

    We are using Mysql.exe to restore database by the following query string cmd ="-h" + ViewState["host"].ToString() + " " + "-u" + ViewState["user"].ToString() + " " + "-p" + ViewState["password"].ToString() + " " + ViewState["dbName"].ToString() + "<" + " " + Server.MapPath("BackupFiles/") + path; The same query is executing in MySql command prompt but we are not able to restore using the above query in VisualStudio .Net, we have tried MysqlImport.exe to do the restore but it was no use. we are newbie to MySql if any help would be appreciated.

    I used the Redgate packager (ran MSI) to reset all the data in my database (i.e. I deleted everything, and let it build the new database). Unfortunately, I discovered that it didn't retain my diagrams, which has a nice arrangement and several annotations. Is there any way to copy/migrate/script the diagram from one database to another (the databases have identical structures). Thanks, Neal Walters

  • vs2008 attach to process, can't see which process

    Hi, In vs2003 (and vs2005(not sure about that)) when I attached to a process, before actually attaching I could see which process were running under w3wp (I have a couple of websites running locally) so I knew which exact .net application I was about to debug. however in vs2008 the window doesn't show up anymore.. now I have to attach it, come to the conclusion it was the wrong process, stop debugging and attach it to the other process (if I haven't forgot teh processid :P ) Is there a way to "enable" that interesting window to see with .net apps are runnig in that specific w3wp process? or am i missing something obvious?

  • Attach GestureRecogniser to multiple imageviews

    Something strange I encountered today while attaching same gesture recogniser to multiple image views. It gets attached to only the last one, in other words, it can be attached to only one view! I had to create multiple gesture recognisers to meet my requirements. Following is what I have done. Am I doing correct? Is that's the only way to attach recognisers to the multiple imageviews? Please note that I don't want to use UITableView or UIVIew and put all imageviews in it and attach gesture recogniser to only UITableView or UIVIew.   • SQL SERVER – Difference Between ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE and WITH NO_WAIT during ALTER DATABASE

    Today, we are going to discuss about something very simple, but quite commonly confused two options of ALTER DATABASE. The first one is ALTER DATABASE …ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE and the second one is WITH NO_WAIT. Many people think they are the same or are not sure of the difference between these two options. Before we continue our explaination, let us go through the explanation given by Book On Line. ROLLBACK AFTER integer [SECONDS] | ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE Specifies whether to roll back after a specified number of seconds or immediately. NO_WAIT Specifies that if the requested database state or option change cannot complete immediately without waiting for transactions to commit or roll back on their own, then the request will fail. If you have understood the difference by now, there is no need to proceed further. If you are still confused, continue with the rest of the post. There is one big difference between ROLLBACK and NO_WAIT. In case incomplete Transaction ALTER DATABASE … ROLLBACK rollbacks those incomplete transaction immediately, where as ALTER DATABASE … NO_WAIT will terminate and rollback the transaction of ALTER DATABASE … NO_WAIT itself. I think it can be clearly explained with the help of the following images.     SQL Server 2012 has many interesting features but the most talked feature is AlwaysOn. Performance tuning is always a hot topic. I see lots of need of the same and lots of business around it. However, many times when people talk about performance tuning they think of it as a either query tuning, performance tuning, or server tuning. All are valid points, but performance tuning expert usually understands the business workload and business logic before making suggestions. For example, if performance tuning expert analysis workload and realize that there are plenty of reports as well read only queries on the server they can for sure consider alternate options for the same. If read only data is not required real time or it can accept the data which is delayed a bit it makes sense to divide the workload. A secondary replica of the original data which can serve all the read only queries and report is a good idea in most of the cases where there is plenty of workload which is not dependent on the real time data. SQL Server 2012 has introduced the feature of AlwaysOn which can very well fit in this scenario and provide a solution in Read-Only Workloads. Microsoft has recently announced a white paper which is based on absolutely the same subject. I recommend it to read for every SQL Enthusiast who is are going to implement a solution to offload read-only workloads to secondary replicas.     I have a windows 7 operating system as a test environment. I have SQL Server EE installed with two instances, named as test and production. I took a full backup from AdventureWorks database from test instance and I tried to restore it into the production instance: RESTORE DATABASE [testikanta] FROM DISK = N'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008TESTI\MSSQL\Backup\AdventureWorks.bak' WITH FILE = 1, NOUNLOAD, REPLACE, STATS = 10 GO I got an error saying: Msg 3634, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The operating system returned the error '32(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 15105)' while attempting 'RestoreContainer::ValidateTargetForCreation' on 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.SQL2008TESTI\MSSQL\DATA\AdventureWorks_Data.mdf'.   • Is it necessary to read every single byte to check if a copied file is identical to the original?

    I recently learned of a program called Total Commander. It's a Windows Explorer replacement and has its own stuff to copy files. To check whether the files are identical, instead of calculation a CRC, it literally checks every single byte, one at a time, on both the original and the copy. My question is: Is this necessary? Can CRC or any other such technique go wrong? Should you, as a programmer, try and implement this perfect but slow system, or is it too extreme?

  • Correct DB details produce “Database server was not found” (Prestashop Installation)

    At stage 3 of the Prestashop Installation, I enter the DB details which I know to be correct, and I receive the error: Database server was not found. Please verify the login, password, and database server name fields. The server is localhost, and I have verified the database name and username. Why can Prestashop not find the server? This occurs when choosing InnoDB and MyIsam. If I change the server from localhost to the public hostname I receive the same error.
