• Extract / Parse Tags from Mixed Content String

  Hello, i want to parse Tags from a mixed Content String. The string goes like this: "<PERSON>yasir arafat</PERSON> , the president of the <LOCATION>palestinian authority</LOCATION> , on the defensive , mr . sharon believes , a government official" I only want to use jaxp. • Finding the maximum number of child nodes in a tree

  First, I should make it clear that this is required for an academic project. I am trying to find the maximum number of child nodes for any node in a tree, using Common Lisp. My current code is shown below - I'm not 100% on the logic of it, but I feel it should work, however it isn't giving me the required result. (defun breadth (list y) (setf l y) (mapcar #'(lambda (element) (when (listp element) (when (> (breadth element (length element)) l) (setf l (breadth element (length element))) ))) list) l) (defun max-breadth(list) (breadth list (length list)) ) As an example, running (max-breadth '(a ( (b (c d)) e) (f g (h i) j))) should return 4. Does anyone have any ideas where I'm going wrong? I suspect it's related to the second conditional, but I'm not sure.

• Rails 2.3.x, named_scope chaining with INNER JOIN complication

  I have two hypothetical classes, Foo and Bar. Foo contains many Bars. Bar can only belong to one Foo. Ultimately the SQL query I'm trying to make happen looks like the following: SELECT * from bar INNER JOIN foo ON bar.foo_id = foo.id where bar.in_use = 0 and bar.customer_id = 1 and foo.category = 0 That query does what I need. Now I'm trying to break the problem down in Rails using chained named_scopes. First, the straight forward in_use and customer_id scopes I have set: named_scope :available, :conditions => { :in_use => 0 } named_scope :not_available, :conditions => { :in_use => 1 } named_scope :customer, lambda { |num| { :conditions => { :customer_id => num } } } Now the part I'm stuck at, is I'm trying to do something like this in my code: abar = Bar.available.customer(1).category(0) how and where do I put the category named_scope to make this work?

• Facebook API - Get comments

  Our business has a Facebook Fan Page. The fan page doesn't seem to generate any emails to us when updates are made to the page, whether someone adds a new status or someone comments on one of the statuses etc. Currently, we are running a very crude script to grab the content of the page and then use regular expressions to get the information we require. Obviously this is not fool proof and I'm looking into alternatives to this method. I've been looking at the facebook API and wonder if the rest server might be an option. I cannot, however, seem to find out how to return information of fan page statuses and their comments. Is anyone able to direct me how to use the API to retrieve this information. I am an admin of the fan page. The programming language I'm using is PHP. Many thanks.

• how to strip namespaces with e4x?

  I have an arbitrary XML document provided by a URL. I also have an xpath-like expressions. var xml = <doc><node1><node2><node3>some value</node3></node2></node1></doc>; var path = "node1.node2.node3"; I need to verify if the above path into the XML is valid. I tried to do this using eval and E4X. var value = eval("xml."+path); However, my actual xml document has namespaces which are getting in the way. I do not know the namespaces ahead of time or care what they are. Is there a way to strip all the namespaces out ahead of time? Is there a better way to do this? Thanks!

If I've got 2 tables that are joined in a 3rd table with a many-to-many relationship, is it possible to write an ICriteria with expressions in one of the tables and the join table? Lets say the mapping file looks something like: <bag name ="Bag" table="JoinTable" cascade ="none"> <key column="Data_ID"/> <many-to-many class="Data2" column="Data2_ID"/> </bag> Is it then possible to write an ICriteria like the following? ICriteria crit = session.CreateCriteria(typeof(Data)); crit.Add(Expression.Eq("Name", name)); crit.Add(Expression.Between("Date", startDate, endDate)); crit.Add(Expression.Eq("Bag", data2IDNumber)); When I try this, it tells me I the expected type is IList, whereas the actual type is Bag.   I'm trying to strip content titles out of the middle of text strings. Could I use regex to strip everything out of this string except for the title (in italics) in these strings? Or is there a better way? Joe User wrote a blog post called The 10 Best Regex Expressions in the category Regex. Jane User wrote a blog post called Regex is Hard! in the category TechProblems. I've tried to come up with a regex expression to cover this, but I think it might need two. The trick is that the text in bold is always the same, so you could search for that, like this: regex: delete everything before and including wrote a blog post called regex: delete in the category and everything after it.

  Hello all, Two things: Firstly - I have version 2 of a website located in a folder named v2, and I want to redirect any traffic that is NOT a child of the v2 folder, to www.example.com/v2 The old site located in the root was created in iWeb and has a LOT of subfolders and sub-subfolders. So: www.example.com/v2 = New site www.example.com/Page.html www.example.com/category/Page.html ww.example.com/category/subcategory/Page.html = All generic examples of what I need to redirect. Secondly, and I don't know if this is possible, I want to hide /v2/ in the URL, so that visitors will just see www.example.com/page even though they are actually on www.example.com/v2/page Links are hardcoded to the v2 folder, like so <a href="v2/contact.html" Any help is MOST appreciated. I've spent hours trying to figure this out, but I'm only just learning about htaccess and regular expressions, and am totally confused. Thanks so much!

  I have the following string: <div id="mydiv">This is a "div" with quotation marks</div> I want to use regular expressions to return the following: <div id='mydiv'>This is a "div" with quotation marks</div> Notice how the id attribute in the div is now surrounded by apostrophes? How can I do this with a regular expression? Edit: I'm not looking for a magic bullet to handle every edge case in every situation. We should all be weary of using regex to parse HTML but, in this particular case and for my particular need, regex IS the solution...I just need a bit of help getting the right expression.

• RegEx - Take all numeric characters following a text character

  Given a string in the format: XXX999999v99 (where X is any alpha character and v is any numeric character and v is a literal v character) how can I get a regex to match the numeric characters following the v? So far I've got 'v\d\d' which includes the v but ideally I'd like just the numeric part. As an aside does anyone know of a tool in which you can specify a string to match and have the regex generated? Modifying an existing regex is one thing but I find starting from scratch painful! Edit: Re-reading this question I realise it reads like a homework assignment! However I can assure you it's not, the strings I'm trying to match represent product versions appended to product codes. The current code uses all sorts of substring expressions to retrieve the version part.

• How to improve my Python regex syntax?

  I very new to Python, and fairly new to regex. (I have no Perl experience.) I am able to use regular expressions in a way that works, but I'm not sure that my code is particularly Pythonic or consise. For example, If I wanted to read in a text file and print out text that appears directly between the words 'foo' and 'bar' in each line (presuming this occurred one or zero times a line) I would write the following: fileList = open(inFile, 'r') pattern = re.compile(r'(foo)(.*)(bar)') for line in fileList: result = pattern.search(line) if (result != None): print result.groups()[1] Is there a better way? The if is necessary to avoid calling groups() on None. But I suspect there is a more concise way to obtain the matching String when there is one, without throwing errors when there isn't. I'm not hoping for Perl-like unreadability. I just want to accomplish this common task in the commonest and simplest way.

  Hi there, I've got a question about a Silverlight WCF Databinding pattern: There are many examples about how to bind data using {Binding} expressions in XAML, how to make async calls to a WCF service, set the DataContext property of a element in the UI, how to use ObservableCollections and INotifyPropertyChanged, INotifyCollectionChanged and so on. Background: I'm using the MVVM pattern, and have a Silverlight ItemsControl, whose ItemsSource is set to an ObservableCollection property on my ViewModel object. My view is of course the XAML which has the {Binding}. Say the model object is called 'Metric'. My ViewModel periodically makes calls to a WCF service that returns ObservableCollection. MetricInfo is the data transfer object (DTO). My question is two-fold: Is there any way to avoid copying each property of MetricInfo to the model class - Metric? When the WCF calls completes, is there any way to make sure I sync the items which are in both my local ObservableCollection and the result of the WCF call - without having to first clear out all the items in the local collection and then add all the ones from the WCF call result? thanks, Krishna

  Hi there, I need to apply validation on input time intervals that are taken in as seconds. Now i am not really good at Regular expressions. So can any body help making a regular expression that can test whether a number is divisible by 60. I was wondering if i could use to test one that check that the number is divisible by 10 and then check whether the same is divisible by 6. For number divisible by 10 here [\d*0] is the expression i guess. Please correct me if i am wrong. Hope somebody solves my problem. Thanks

• Force jQuery to accept XHTML string as XML?

  So, as part of a baseline OpenID implementation in Javascript, I'm fetching a remote page source through AJAX, and looking for the <link rel="openid.server" href="http://www.example.com" /> tag in the head. I'm using the jQuery javascript library for the AJAX request, but am unable to parse out the link tags. Several other online sources talk about using the usual jQuery selectors to grab tags from XML/XHTML sources, but it seems jQuery can only get content from the body of an HTML document, not the head (which is where the link tags are; $(response).find('link') returns null). So, I'd either need to get jQuery to force this document into XML mode or otherwise get at the head tags. Is there a way to force jQuery to parse the response of an AJAX query as XML, when it's in reality XHTML? Or do I need to fall back to regular expressions to get the link tags out?

  I have some hierarchical data - each entry has an id and a (nullable) parent entry id. I want to retrieve all entries in the tree under a given entry. This is in a SQL Server 2005 database. I am querying it with LINQ to SQL in C# 3.5. LINQ to SQL does not support Common Table Expressions directly. My choices are to assemble the data in code with several LINQ queries, or to make a view on the database that surfaces a CTE. Which option (or another option) do you think will perform better when data volumes get large? Is SQL Server 2008's HierarchyId type supported in Linq to SQL?

When discussing new solutions and architectures we often encounter impedance in trying to compare the various technologies, frameworks, APIs etc. in use between the two camps. It seems that each camp knows little about the other and we end up comparing apples to oranges and forgetting about the bushels. While researching the topic I found this: Java -- .Net rough equivalents It's a nice list but it's not quite exhaustive and is missing the key .NET 3.0 technologies and a few other tidbits. To complete that list: what are the near/rough equivalents (or a combination of technologies) in Java to the following in .NET? This compiles ok recordList = recordList.Where(r => r.Areas.Where(a => a.Area == "Z").Count() > 0); but this doesn't recordList = recordList.Where(r => r.Areas.Where(a => a.Area <= "Z").Count() > 0); giving these errors Cannot convert lambda expression to type 'string' because it is not a delegate type Delegate 'System.Func' does not take '1' arguments Operator '<=' cannot be applied to operands of type 'string' and 'string' != works ok, by any sort of less than or greater than operation fails.

  Ok I am trying to get the users First Name the form gets their name perfectly fine and posts it into a variable. Now I am trying to do error checking else if(!preg_match("/^[\w-]+$/", $firstNameSignup)) { $firstNameSignupError = "Your first name cannot contain numbers or symbols, you entered " . $firstNameSignup; $firstNameSignup = ""; } I tried the above code and it does not like me but my if statement if(!isset($firstNameSignup) || $firstNameSignup == "") { $firstNameSignupError = "You must enter your first name"; } works fine so I know that the error is in that else if statement... most likely in my regular expression any help???   Hi! I would like to dynamically create XPath expressions in an XSL determined by data in an XML file. (i.e. the XML data is "concatenated" to create an XPath expression). I have recently started learning regular expressions in my Java programming however am a little confused how to get certain features to work correctly directly in BASH. For example, the following code is not working as I think it should. echo 2222 | grep '2\{2\}' I am expecting it to return: 22 I have tried variations of it including: echo 2222 | grep '2{2}' echo 2222 | grep -P '2\{2\}' echo 2222 | grep -E '2\{2\}' However I am completely out of ideas. I'm sure this is a simple parameter / syntax fix and would love some help! P.S I've done tons of googling and every reference I find does not work in BASH; regex's can run on so many different platforms and engines =/

• Textarea to paragraphs

  When I have to render textarea content to the front end I usually pass it thru a function that converts newlines to <br/> tags and double newlines signal paragraph tags so blocks of text get surrounded by <p> and </p> tags. To save time I usually use a ready made PHP function from the wordpress codebase. You can get the link from the man himself: http://ma.tt/scripts/autop/ If you check it out you'll see it does some heavy lifting with about 20 regular expressions. I know I could use a wysiwyg editor (like TinyMCE or CKEditor) that can format the data on the client and then send it to the server (most of them add <p>..</p> tags by default) but I want to know the experience of others in handling raw textarea input and then displaying it on the front end.
