• C# Process.Start() on an executable on a remote system - security warning?

  I've created a Windows Service that accepts commands from remote machines via WCF. One of those commands is to run a specified executable (let's ignore the security implications of such functionality). In my Service I am using Process.Start() to run the executable. All works well if the executable is local to the machine, but if it is on a remote file share it is failing with no error (or more accurately just hanging). I suspect the problem is that it is triggering the standard Windows 'Unverified Publisher' warning that one would see if they double click an exe on a remote system. Is there any way I can bypass this from my service so that I can truly run any executable? As I said I understand the security implications of allowing it to run any executable, but this is really what I need. I would have thought this warning was only a user mode concept, but it really does seem to be getting in the way of my Service. Ideas?

• Detach an entity from a JPA persistence context (JPA 2.0 / Hibernate / EJB 3 / J2EE 6)

  Hi, I wrote a stateless EJB method allowing to get an entity in "read-only" mode. The way to do this is to get the entity with the EntityManager then detach it (using the JPA 2.0 EntityManager). • Telerik RadGrid doesn't display on first Page_Load but does on postback

  I have a page with a drop-down. Based on the selection in the drop-down, data gets loaded and populates a RadGrid. I am using a custom user control for the EditTemplate, so I can't use radGrid.DataBind(). Instead, I have to use radGrid.MasterTableView.Rebind() in association with a NeedDataSource event handler. My problem is that when I load the page initially, I populate the drop-down and automatically select a value (first item in the list) which triggers the databinding on the RadGrid. I can step through the code in debug mode and see that the grid is being populated with data, but when the page displays, it doesn't get rendered. When I then manually choose an item from the drop-down, which triggers the same grid databinding code, it displays properly the second time. How do I get it to display the grid the first time the page loads?

• WPF ShowDialog returns immediately

  Sometimes when I call ShowDialog on an OpenFileDialog Window in WPF, the dialog closes immediately with a return value of false. I'm calling ShowDialog in response to a button click event. • iPad: SplitView does not rotate

  I have the following setup: A subclass of UISplitViewController that creates the master and detail view controllers in the constructor. Master and Detail view controllers that both override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation to return `YES'. Detail view controller implements the UISplitViewControllerDelegate protocol and deals with the popover. I am observing two weird issues that might be interrelated: When the split view comes up (in portrait mode - default on simulator), the Master view is visible. It should not be. When I rotate the simulator, the view does not "right" itself. My UISplitViewController subclass does not override shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation. However, both master and details view controllers do and return YES. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong? Is this a simulator bug? Thanks. -Raj

  Hi, The .NET 3.5 application I am working on consists of bunch of different solutions. Some of these solutions consist of managed code(C#) and others have unmanaged code(C++). Methods written in C# communicate with the ones written in C++. I am trying to trace the dependencies between these various functions and I thought setting breakpoints on the solution consisting my C++ functions. One of the C# solutions have the startup project. I run this solution in debug mode with the expectation that the breakpoints in my unmanaged code will be hit but nothing really happens. Can somebody guide me through the process of debugging mixed applications such as these using the Visual Studio IDE? Thanks

• Determine UIInterfaceOrientation on iPad

  I don't need to specify the orientation in this case, I just need to detect it, but I'm having trouble. I have conditional code that should only work in portrait, and if the device is in landscape I need to do something else. Since the deviceOrientation is not necessarily the same as the interfaceOrientation, I can't come up with a way to test for portrait mode. Most tutorials I find on Google are ways to force landscape or do some sort of rotation. The only thing I want to do is just determine what the orientation is. Here is my code, which is not working: -(void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; //currentOrientation is declared as UIInterfaceOrientation currentOrientation currentOrientation = [[UIApplication sharedApplication] statusBarOrientation]; NSLog(@"%@",currentOrientation); // == NULL } I need to determine the value of the interfaceOrientation and program conditionally.   I'm trying to capture packets from two devices on my network. I have tcpdump installed on my dd-wrt router and working correctly. However, the only packets I capture are broadcast packets when using a tcpdump statement that states only those two devices ./tcpdump -w /tmp/capture.pcap dst 192.168.3.105 or src 192.168.3.105 or dst 192.168.3.136 or src 192.168.3.136 I'm capturing on intefface br0. Is that correct? Both devices are plugged in directly to the ports 1 and 2 with ip addresses 192.168.3.105 and 192.168.3.136 respectively. Do I need to set br0 in promiscuous mode? A little stuck.   I'm using the AutoCompleteExtender from the AJAX control toolkit on my aspx page - I have it wired up to a WCF service that is returning a string array and everything works happily. If I change my service definition to include a demand for the caller to be authenticated, like so: <OperationContract(), PrincipalPermission(SecurityAction.Demand, Authenticated:=True)> _ Public Function GetLookupValues(ByVal prefixText As String, ByVal count As Integer, ByVal contextKey As String) As String() Then the autocomplete extender stops working, and I get an authentication error in the service. The service is set up to use ASPNetCompatibility mode, and I was hoping that the extender would pass the authentication credentials for my logged in user - does anyone know how to make this work?

• iPad SplitView changes main navigation bar color

  Weird problem: After rotating my app to portrait, picking the toolbar item and exposing the uipopovercontroller, if I rotate back to landscape, the UINavigationController on the right side (objectAtIndex:0 of the SplitView) changes the color of the navigation bar. I am not sure why. I have it set in Interface Builder to be barStyle = UIBarStyleBlackOpaque; It turns silver after it returns to landscape mode. This only happens if I rotate it to portrait, create the popover, and select something in the navigation controller, which pushes another tableViewController. Even setting the properties in the viewDidLoad method does nothing. Anyone have an idea?

• Rails Resque workers fail with PGError: server closed the connection unexpectedly

  I have site running rails application and resque workers running in production mode, on Ubuntu 9.10, Rails 2.3.4, ruby-ee 2010.01, PostgreSQL 8.4.2 Workers constantly raised errors: PGError: server closed the connection unexpectedly. My best guess is that master resque process establishes connection to db (e.g. authlogic does that when use User.acts_as_authentic), while loading rails app classes, and that connection becomes corrupted in fork()ed process (on exit?), so next forked children get kind of broken global ActiveRecord::Base.connection I could reproduce very similar behaviour with this sample code imitating fork/processing in resque worker. (AFAIK, users of libpq recommended to recreate connections in forked process anyway, otherwise it's not safe ) But, the odd thing is that when I use pgbouncer or pgpool-II instead of direct pgsql connection, such errors do not appear. So, the question is where and how should I dig to find out why it is broken for plain connection and is working with connection pools? Or reasonable workaround?

• Wcf IInstanceProvider Behaviour never calling Realease() ?

  Hi, I'm implementing my own IInstanceProvider class to override the creation and realease of new service instances but the Release() method never gets called on my implemented class? It's implemented using an IServiceBehavior to attach to the exposed endpoint. No matter how hard we hammer the service the Relaease() method nevers gets called. We have the service running a per call instanceContext mode with 50 instance max. The deconstruct of the service instance gets called but not on all created instance and this looks like the gargageCollection rather than wcf realeasing and disposing. Any ideas why the Release() method never gets called? Thanks in Advance, Jon

  Hi, Happy New Year! I have a textbox to display a very long Base64 string. The TextBox.Multline = true and TextBox.WordWrap = true. The issue is caused by the auto-word-boundary detection of the TextBox itself. The Base64 string has '+' as one of the 64 characters for Base64 encoding. Therefore, the TextBox will wrap it up at the '+' character, which is not what I want (because the use might think there is a newline character around the '+' character). I just want my Base64 string displayed in Mulitline-mode in TextBox, but no word boundary detection, that is, if the TextBox.Width can only contain 80 characters, then each line should have exact 80 characters except the last line. I'm not sure if I made myself clear. Thanks. Peter

• Strange "INavigatorContent" error compiling in 4.0

  I've recently decided to try an upgrade to 4.0. The only error I still can't work out is this one: "The children of Halo navigators must implement INavigatorContent" I seem to be getting it on all my ViewStacks that have validators. <mx:ViewStack xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"> <mx:NumberValidator id="systolicValidator" source="{systolic}" required="true" property="text" minValue="10" maxValue="300" domain="int"/> <mx:NumberValidator id="diastolicValidator" source="{diastolic}" required="true" property="text" minValue="10" maxValue="200" domain="int"/> <mx:TextInput id="systolic"/> <mx:TextInput id="diastolic"/> ... The error gets thrown on the validator tags. My compiler is set to "flex 3 compatibility mode" and my theme is set to Halo (default). This seems like it should be a really straight forward fix, so I hate to spin my wheels on it for too long. Any ideas what I might be missing?

• Populate Android Database From CSV file?

  Is it possible to take a csv file stored in the res/raw resource directory and use it to populate a table in the sqlite3 database? My thought was that, if there was a way to do a bulk import for the entire file into the table then that would be cleaner and faster than iterating over each line in the file and executing individual insert statements... I've found that there is a sqlite import command that allows this: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1045910/how-can-i-import-load-a-sql-or-csv-file-into-sqlite ...but I'm having trouble applying those statements in my Android application.
