• Application Architecture using WCF and System.AddIn

  A little background -- we're designing an application that uses a client/server architecture consisting of: A server which loads server-side modules, potentially developed by other teams. A client which loads corresponding client-side modules (also potentially developed by those other teams; each client module corresponds with a server module). The client side communicates with the server side for general coordination, and as well as module specific tasks. (At this point, I think that means client talks to server, client modules talk to server modules.) Environment is .NET 3.5, and client side is WPF. The deployment scenario introduces the potential to upgrade the server, any server-side module, the client, and any client-side module independently. However, being able to "work" using mismatched versions is required. I'm therefore concerned about versioning issues. My thinking so far: A Windows Service for the server. Using System.AddIn for the server to load and communicate with the server modules will give us the greatest flexibility in terms of version compatability between server and server modules. The server and each server module vend WCF services for communication to the client side; communication between the server and a server module, or between two server modules use the AddIn contracts. (One advantage of this is that a module can expose a different interface within the server and outside it.) Similarly, the client uses System.AddIn to find, load, and communicate with the client modules. Client communications with client modules is via the AddIn interface; communications from the client and from client modules to the server side are via WCF. For maximum resilience, each module will run in a separate app-domain. In general, the system has modest performance requirements, so marshalling and crossing process boundaries is not expected to be a performance concern. (Performance requirement is basically summed up by: don't get in the way of the other parts of the system not described here.) My questions are around the idea of having two different communication and versioning models to work with which will be an added burden on our developers. System.AddIn seems quite powerful, but also a little unwieldly. (I'm also unsure of Microsoft's commitment to it in the future.) On the other hand, I'm not thrilled with WCF's versioning capabilities. I have a feeling that it would be possible to implement the System.AddIn view/adapter/contract system within WCF, but being fairly new to both technologies, I would have no idea of where to start. So... Am I on the right track here? Am I doing this the hard way? Are there gotchas I need to be aware of on this road? Thanks.

I'm trying to "re-skin" an existing site that has been nicely built using div's and ul's, etc, and it has a good existing CSS file, but when I start making changes to the CSS I quickly find that I break the layout. My feeling is that it is very hard to get a feel for how all the CSS will work together and indeed what CSS is affecting parent and sibling elements in the HTML. So, my question is "what are the best-practices around re-skinning an existing web-site by replacing the CSS only and not modifying the existing HTML?" I can't change the classes, ids, node hierarchy, etc. An example of the particular site that I am trying to re-skin is http://demo.nopcommerce.com/. • WCF - Windows authentication - Security settings require Anonymous...

  Hi, I am struggling hard with getting WCF service running on IIS on our server. After deployment I end up with an error message: Security settings for this service require 'Anonymous' Authentication but it is not enabled for the IIS application that hosts this service. I want to use Windows authentication and thus I have Anonymous access disabled. Also note that there is aspNetCompatibilityEnabled (if that makes any difference). But CHAMADOResponse still have the namespaces declaration. I'm pretty sure that it should not be done like that. In fact, I don't believe that the namespaces are the problem at all. This project has been hard since the begining, as we had to create services that matched legacy wsdl. My question is: is there a way that I could remove all that namespaces declaration from the web service response?

• "Launch Failed. Binary Not Found." Snow Leopard and Eclipse C/C++ IDE issue.

  Not a question, I've just scoured the internet in search of a solution for this problem and thought I'd share it with the good folks of SO. I'll put it in plain terms so that it's accessible to newbs. :) (Apologies if this is the wrong place -- just trying to be helpful.) This issue occurs with almost any user OS X Snow Leopard who tries to use the Eclipse C/C++ IDE, but is particularly annoying for the people (like me) who were using the Eclipse C/C++ IDE in Leopard, and were unable to work with Eclipse anymore when they upgraded. The issue occurs When users go to build/compile/link their software. They get the following error: Launch Failed. Binary Not Found. Further, the "binaries" branch in the project window on the left is simply nonexistent. THE PROBLEM: is that GCC 4.2 (the GNU Compiler Collection) that comes with Snow Leopard compiles binaries in 64-bit by default. Unfortunately, the linker that Eclipse uses does not understand 64-bit binaries; it reads 32-bit binaries. There may be other issues here, but in short, they culminate in no binary being generated, at least not one that Eclipse can read, which translates into Eclipse not finding the binaries. Hence the error. One solution is to add an -arch i686 flag when making the file, but manually making the file every time is annoying. Luckily for us, Snow Leopard also comes with GCC 4.0, which compiles in 32 bits by default. So one solution is merely to link this as the default compiler. This is the way I did it. THE SOLUTION: The GCCs are in /usr/bin, which is normally a hidden folder, so you can't see it in the Finder unless you explicitly tell the system that you want to see hidden folders. Anyway, what you want to do is go to the /usr/bin folder and delete the path that links the GCC command with GCC 4.2 and add a path that links the GCC command with GCC 4.0. In other words, when you or Eclipse try to access GCC, we want the command to go to the compiler that builds in 32 bits by default, so that the linker can read the files; we do not want it to go to the compiler that compiles in 64 bits. The best way to do this is to go to Applications/Utilities, and select the app called Terminal. A text prompt should come up. It should say something like "(Computer Name):~ (Username)$ " (with a space for you user input at the end). The way to accomplish the tasks above is to enter the following commands, entering each one in sequence VERBATIM, and pressing enter after each individual line. cd /usr/bin rm cc gcc c++ g++ ln -s gcc-4.0 cc ln -s gcc-4.0 gcc ln -s c++-4.0 c++ ln -s g++-4.0 g++ Like me, you will probably get an error that tells you you don't have permission to access these files. If so, try the following commands instead: cd /usr/bin sudo rm cc gcc c++ g++ sudo ln -s gcc-4.0 cc sudo ln -s gcc-4.0 gcc sudo ln -s c++-4.0 c++ sudo ln -s g++-4.0 g++ Sudo may prompt you for a password. If you've never used sudo before, try just pressing enter. If that doesn't work, try the password for your main admin account. OTHER POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS You may be able to enter build variables into Eclipse. I tried this, but I don't know enough about it. If you want to feel it out, the flag you will probably need is -arch i686. In earnest, GCC-4.0 worked for me all this time, and I don't see any reason to switch now. There may be a way to alter the default for the compiler itself, but once again, I don't know enough about it. Hope this has been helpful and informative. Good coding!

Even though the line it's supposed to be matching comes directly from the webpage, it fails to match at all. So I'm wondering what it is I'm missing that's preventing this code from working. If I take out the <td class="vaM taC">< img src="http://icons-ecast.wxug.com/i/c/a/[%w_]+.gif" it'll match condition flawlessly. (For whatever reason, I can't get the above line to display correctly, but there is no space between the `< and img) Can anyone point out what is wrong with it? Aside from the pattern matching, I assure you the line is verbatim from the webpage. Another question I had is the ability to match across line breaks. Is there any possible way to do this? The reason why I ask is because on that same page, a few of the things I need to match are broken up on separate lines, and since the actual pattern I'm wanting to match shows up in other places on the page, I need to be able to match across line breaks to get the exact pattern. I appreciate any help in this matter!

However that token comes out as an array of bytes. It's hard to use it later to send it to the server... anyone knows how to convert an array of bytes to pchar or string?

• Simple animation using C#/Windows Forms

  I need to knock out a quick animation in C#/Windows Forms for a Halloween display. Just some 2D shapes moving about on a solid background. Since this is just a quick one-off project I really don't want to install and learn an entire new set of tools for this. (DirectX dev kits, Silverlight, Flash, etc..) I also have to install this on multiple computers so anything beyond the basic .Net framework (2.0) would be a pain in the arse. For tools I've got VS2k8, 25 years of development experience, a wheelbarrow, holocaust cloak, and about 2 days to knock this out. I haven't done animation since using assembler on my Atari 130XE (hooray for page flipping and player/missile graphics!) Advice? Here's some of the things I'd like to know: I can draw on any empty widget (like a panel) by fiddling with it's OnPaint handler, right? That's how I'd draw a custom widget. Is there a better technique than this? Is there a page-flipping technique for this kind of thing in Windows Forms? I'm not looking for a high frame rate, just as little flicker/drawing as necessary. Thanks. Post Mortem Edit ... "a couple of coding days later" Well, the project is done. The links below came in handy although a couple of them were 404. (I wish SO would allow more than one reply to be marked "correct"). The biggest problem I had to overcome was flickering, and a persistent bug when I tried to draw on the form directly. Using the OnPaint event for the Form: bad idea. I never got that to work; lots of mysterious errors (stack overflows, or ArgumentNullExceptions). I wound up using a panel sized to fill the form and that worked fine. Using the OnPaint method is slow anyway. Somewhere online I read that building the PaintEventArgs was slow, and they weren't kidding. Lots of flickering went away when I abandoned this. Skip the OnPaint/Invalidate() and just paint it yourself. Setting all of the "double buffering" options on the form still left some flicker that had to be fixed. (And I found conflicting docs that said "set them on the control" and "set them on the form". Well controls don't have a .SetStyle() method.) I haven't tested without them, so they might be doing something (this is the form): this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.UserPaint, true); this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.OptimizedDoubleBuffer, true); this.SetStyle(ControlStyles.AllPaintingInWmPaint, true); So the workhorse of the code wound up looking like (pf is the panel control): void PaintPlayField() { Bitmap bufl = new Bitmap(pf.Width, pf.Height); using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bufl)) { g.FillRectangle(Brushes.Black, new Rectangle(0, 0, pf.Width, pf.Height)); DrawItems(g); DrawMoreItems(g); pf.CreateGraphics().DrawImageUnscaled(bufl, 0, 0); } } And I just called PaintPlayField from the inside of my Timer loop. • Delphi - restore actual row in DBGrid

  Hi! D6 prof. Formerly we used DBISAM and DBISAMTable. That handle the RecNo, and it is working good with modifications (Delete, edit, etc). Now we replaced with ElevateDB, that don't handle RecNo, and many times we use Queries, not Tables. Query must reopen to see the modifications. But if we Reopen the Query, we need to repositioning to the last record. Locate isn't enough, because Grid is show it in another Row. This is very disturbing thing, because after the modification record is moving into another row, you hard to follow it, and users hate this. This working good with Queries, because we cannot see that Query reopened in the background, the visual control is not changed the row position. But when we have EDBTable, or Live/Sensitive Query, the MoveBy is dangerous to use, because if somebody delete or append a new row, we can relocate into wrong record. Then I tried to use the BookMark (see remark). But this technique isn't working, because it is show the record in another Row position... So the question: how to force both the row position and record in DBGrid? Or what kind of DBGrid can relocate to the record/row after the underlying DataSet refreshed? I search for user friendly solution, I understand them, because I tried to use this jump-across DBGrid, and very bad to use, because my eyes are getting out when try to find the original record after update... :-( Thanks for your every help, link, info: dd

Any thoughts? I have re installed glassfish and NetBeans but it all seems the same. I think this started happening after I had to force-restart my computer with NetBeans stil open and the app deployed, but it's hard to know for sure if this was the real catalyst. Any thoughts or help is appreciated thanks. Is it an app error? if so why no errors in the log are shown?

• howto only tunnel specific hosts route through openvpn client on tomato

  I am relatively newbie in networking world although I did coding and know some sysadmin background for a long time. and here I'm only one step from my destination. The whole picture is : at home I use one LinkSys E3000 as the gateway(don't know yet if this is it's name), wireless AP and no other routing/switching devices. It serves 1 PC and 1 Mac with LAN, 1 Mac Mini + 1 iPad + 2 smartphones with WIFI. My goal is use an openvpn client on the E3000 (with tomato firmware) and make my iPad and smartphone's all WiFi traffic through it, and other devices route remain the same non-openvpn route. So far I'm able to connect openvpn client on E3000 to an openvpn server, tunnel all my devices' all traffic through that openvpn connection. What's left is howto selectively route by source IP (at least in my guessing) to the tunnel while don't bother others. I had learned some 'iptables' and 'route' in past few days however without much luck, so here comes my question. • OCR an RSA key fob (security token)

  I put together a quick WinForm/embedded IE browser control which logs into our company's bank website each morning and scrapes/exports the desired deposit information (the bank is a smallish regional bank). Since we have a few dozen "pseudoaccounts" that draw from the same master account, this actually takes 10-15 minutes to retrieve. Anyway, the only problem is that our business bank account reuires an RSA security token (http://www.rsa.com/node.aspx?id=1156)--if you are not familiar, it is a small device which shows a random 6 digit number every 15(?) seconds, so I have to prompt for this value before starting. This is on top of the website's login based security model, so even if you create a read-only account that can't do anything, you still have to put the RSA number in. We have 5 of these tokens for different people in the company. From our perspective this is nusiance security. I was joking about using a web camera to OCR the digits from the key fob so they didn't have to type it in -- mainly so that the scraping/export would be done before anyone arrives in the morning. Well, they asked if I could really do it. So now I ask you, how hard (how many hours) do you think it would take to OCR these digits reliably from a JPEG image produced by the camera? I already know I can get the JPEG easily. I think you get 3 tries to log in, so it really needs to hit a 99% accuracy rate. I could work on this on my off time, but they don't want me to put more than a few hours into it, so I want to leverage as much existing code as possible. This is a 7-segment display (like an alarm clock) so it's not exactly text that an OCR package would be used to seeing. Also--there is a countdown timer on the side of the display; typically when it is down to 1 bar, you wait until the next number appears and it starts over at 5 bars (like signal strength on your cell phone). So this would need to be OCRd as well but it is not text. Anyway the more I think about it as I type this, the less convinced I am that I can truly get this right, so maybe I should just work on it in my spare time?

• Myfaces extensionfilter overriding renderkit? (Tree2 component)

  I've pulled in the tree2 component (from Tomahawk 1.1.9). Had used the simpler Tree component on previous projects, and this one just looks a bit nicer. Running on websphere 6.1.x and set the server side flag that's needed (com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.invokefilterscompatibility=true) and set the extensionfilter accordingly. Everything's good, and works as expected. Here's the issue: - on a page being included on this one (just some typical footer type info with NO myfaces widgets), there's some embedded html that's getting flagged with warnings in the systemout console). These look like org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 475. Surroundings: 'span id="tile:footr:viewFragm'. org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 479. Surroundings: 'a id="tile:footr:viewFragment'. org.apache.myfaces.renderkit.html.util.ReducedHTMLParser parse Invalid tag found: unexpected input while looking for attr name or '/' at line 492. Surroundings: 'a id="tile:footr:viewFragment'. The problem isn't necessarily with the html (which should be cleaned up regardless :-). IF I don't include myfaces, I don't get these warning messages with the default ibm jsf renderer (using jsf 1.1 still). Obviously, IBM's implementation is a bit more lax than myFaces. The page has nothing to do with myfaces at all. The reason for needing the extension filter is that it needs (for the Tree2 anyways, I know it does more for file upload) to intercept requests and then stick some .js includes on the page. Investigated this a bit, and I've included this filter in my web.xml, but it is NO longer fronting the faces servlet. So, the filter is instantiated at startup, but is never executed. Since the filter isn't in place, I've had to hard code in the includes for the 2 .js files into my page Now, the tree2 gets rendered properly, AND I'm not getting the warnings from above, because with the extentionfilter not being called, its using the IBM renderkit ;-) I'm a bit concerned that when the extension filter is in place, everything is being rendered by myFaces, rather than IBM's renderkit (i.e. All I want is myfaces/tomahawk to render the tree2 only, and let the ri do everything else) Can anyone confirm this? When you use myfaces/tomahawk, is it doing all the rendering for the whole application, or just the page any tomahawk widget is on? Thanks for any thoughts on this mike

• Gridview header issue: call event on header

  Now I got this gridview, And I need the headers to be clickable, whereafter an event starts (something like OnClickHeader="header_ClickEvent"?) Ofcourse there is a SortExpression element, which enables to sort the grid, but I want to be able to start any event, like when clicking a button. I could not find any solution within the asp:BoundField nor asp:TemplateField... I thought a hyperlink could solve the problem, but that was a bit premature. Also, when using a TemplateField, I find it very hard to fill the column with data. Could anyone bring me the solution? • Using MongoDB with Ruby On Rails and the Mongomapper plugin

  Hello, i am currently trying to learn Ruby On Rails as i am a long-time PHP developer so i am building my own community like page. I have came pritty far and have made the user models and suchs using MySQL. But then i heard of MongoDB and looked in to it a little bit more and i find it kinda nice. So i have set it up and i am using mongomapper for the connection between rails and MongoDB. And i am now using it for the News page on the site. I also have a profile page for every User which includes their own guestbook so other users can come to their profile and write a little message to them. My thought now is to change the User models from using MySQL to start using MongoDB. I can start by showing how the models for each User is set up. The user model: class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :guestbook, :class_name => "User::Guestbook" The Guestbook model model: class User::Guestbook < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user has_many :posts, :class_name => "User::Guestbook::Posts", :foreign_key => "user_id" And then the Guestbook posts model: class User::Guestbook::Posts < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :guestbook, :class_name => "User::Guestbook" I have divided it like this for my own convenience but now when i am going to try to migrate to MongoDB i dont know how to make the tables. I would like to have one table for each user and in that table a "column" for all the guestbook entries since MongoDB can have a EmbeddedDocument. I would like to do this so i just have one Table for each user and not like now when i have three tables just to be able to have a guestbook. So my thought is to have it like this: The user model: class User include MongoMapper::Document one :guestbook, :class_name => "User::Guestbook" The Guestbook model model: class User::Guestbook include MongoMapper::EmbeddedDocument belongs_to :user many :posts, :class_name => "User::Guestbook::Posts", :foreign_key => "user_id" And then the Guestbook posts model: class User::Guestbook::Posts include MongoMapper::EmbeddedDocument belongs_to :guestbook, :class_name => "User::Guestbook" But then i can think of one problem.. That when i just want to fetch the user information like a nickname and a birthdate then it will have to fetch all the users guestbook posts. And if each user has like a thousand posts in the guestbook it will get really much to fetch for the system. Or am i wrong? Do you think i should do it any other way? My error is with every single variable that i declare then try to use later inside my methods... i get the non-static variable cannot~~ error I can simply put all the rough coding of my methods inside my cases, and it works but then i cannot use recursion... This raises two questions: Question 1 1. Implementation of each of the C++ methods exposed in the C API needs to be enclosed in a try/catch statement. The performance implications for this seem quite serious (according to this article): "It is a mistake (with high runtime cost) to use C++ exception handling for events that occur frequently, or for events that are handled near the point of detection." At the same time, I remember reading somewhere in my C++ days, that all though exception handling is expensive, it only becmes expensive when an exception actually occurs. So, which is correct?. what to do?. Is there an alternative way that I can trap errors safely and pass the resulting error info to the C API?. Or is this a minor consideration (the article after all, is quite old, and hardware have improved a bit since then). Question 2 I wuld like to modify the exception class given in that article, so that it contains a simple stack trace, and I need some help doing that. Again, in order to make the exception class 'lightweight', I think its a good idea not to include any STL classes, like string or vector (good idea/bad idea?). Which potentially leaves me with a fixed length C string (char*) which will be stack allocated. So I can maybe just keep appending messages (delimted by a unique separator [up to maximum length of buffer])... Its been a while since I did any serious C++ coding, and I will be grateful for the help. • Is there an algorithm for converting quaternion rotations to Euler angle rotations?

  Is there an existing algorithm for converting a quaternion representation of a rotation to an Euler angle representation? The rotation order for the Euler representation is known and can be any of the six permutations (i.e. xyz, xzy, yxz, yzx, zxy, zyx). I've seen algorithms for a fixed rotation order (usually the NASA heading, bank, roll convention) but not for arbitrary rotation order. Furthermore, because there are multiple Euler angle representations of a single orientation, this result is going to be ambiguous. This is acceptable (because the orientation is still valid, it just may not be the one the user is expecting to see), however it would be even better if there was an algorithm which took rotation limits (i.e. the number of degrees of freedom and the limits on each degree of freedom) into account and yielded the 'most sensible' Euler representation given those constraints. I have a feeling this problem (or something similar) may exist in the IK or rigid body dynamics domains. Solved: I just realised that it might not be clear that I solved this problem by following Ken Shoemake's algorithms from Graphics Gems. I did answer my own question at the time, but it occurs to me it may not be clear that I did so. See the answer, below, for more detail. Just to clarify - I know how to convert from a quaternion to the so-called 'Tait-Bryan' representation - what I was calling the 'NASA' convention. This is a rotation order (assuming the convention that the 'Z' axis is up) of zxy. I need an algorithm for all rotation orders. Possibly the solution, then, is to take the zxy order conversion and derive from it five other conversions for the other rotation orders. I guess I was hoping there was a more 'overarching' solution. In any case, I am surprised that I haven't been able to find existing solutions out there. In addition, and this perhaps should be a separate question altogether, any conversion (assuming a known rotation order, of course) is going to select one Euler representation, but there are in fact many. For example, given a rotation order of yxz, the two representations (0,0,180) and (180,180,0) are equivalent (and would yield the same quaternion). Is there a way to constrain the solution using limits on the degrees of freedom? Like you do in IK and rigid body dynamics? i.e. in the example above if there were only one degree of freedom about the Z axis then the second representation can be disregarded. I have tracked down one paper which could be an algorithm in this pdf but I must confess I find the logic and math a little hard to follow. Surely there are other solutions out there? Is arbitrary rotation order really so rare? Surely every major 3D package that allows skeletal animation together with quaternion interpolation (i.e. Maya, Max, Blender, etc) must have solved exactly this problem?

• How to avoid using duplicate savepoint names in nested transactions in nested stored procs?

  I have a pattern that I almost always follow, where if I need to wrap up an operation in a transaction, I do this: BEGIN TRANSACTION SAVE TRANSACTION TX -- Stuff IF @error <> 0 ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX COMMIT TRANSACTION That's served me well enough in the past, but after years of using this pattern (and copy-pasting the above code), I've suddenly discovered a flaw which comes as a complete shock. Quite often, I'll have a stored procedure calling other stored procedures, all of which use this same pattern. What I've discovered (to my cost) is that because I'm using the same savepoint name everywhere, I can get into a situation where my outer transaction is partially committed - precisely the opposite of the atomicity that I'm trying to achieve. I've put together an example that exhibits the problem. This is a single batch (no nested stored procs), and so it looks a little odd in that you probably wouldn't use the same savepoint name twice in the same batch, but my real-world scenario would be too confusing to post. CREATE TABLE Test (test INTEGER NOT NULL) BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (1) COMMIT TRAN TX BEGIN TRAN SAVE TRAN TX INSERT INTO Test(test) VALUES (2) COMMIT TRAN TX DELETE FROM Test ROLLBACK TRAN TX COMMIT TRAN TX SELECT * FROM Test DROP TABLE Test When I execute this, it lists one record, with value "1". In other words, even though I rolled back my outer transaction, a record was added to the table. What's happening is that the ROLLBACK TRANSACTION TX at the outer level is rolling back as far as the last SAVE TRANSACTION TX at the inner level. Now that I write this all out, I can see the logic behind it: the server is looking back through the log file, treating it as a linear stream of transactions; it doesn't understand the nesting/hierarchy implied by either the nesting of the transactions (or, in my real-world scenario, by the calls to other stored procedures). So, clearly, I need to start using unique savepoint names instead of blindly using "TX" everywhere. But - and this is where I finally get to the point - is there a way to do this in a copy-pastable way so that I can still use the same code everywhere? Can I auto-generate the savepoint name on the fly somehow? Is there a convention or best-practice for doing this sort of thing? It's not exactly hard to come up with a unique name every time you start a transaction (could base it off the SP name, or somesuch), but I do worry that eventually there would be a conflict - and you wouldn't know about it because rather than causing an error it just silently destroys your data... :-(

• Tridion Installation

  I am currently upgrading an installation of Tridion from 5.3 to 2011 starting almost from scratch (aside from migrating the database), brand new virtual servers. I just want to ask for some advice on my current server setup... a sanity check. All servers are running Windows Server 2008. The pages on our website are all classic ASP. Database SQL Server cluster. The 5.3 database has been migrated using the DatabaseManager. This is pretty standard and works well (in test anyway). Content Manager A single server to run the Content Manager and the Publisher. There are around 10 people using it at any one time so not under a particularly heavy load. Content Data Store Filesystem located somewhere on the network. One directory for live and one for staging. Content Delivery Two servers (cd1 and cd2) each with the the following server roles installed. cd1 writes to a filesystem content data store for the live website, cd2 writes to the content data store for the staging website. Presentation Two public facing web servers (web1 and web2) serving both the live and staging websites. The web servers read directly from the content data store as its a filesystem. Each of the web servers have the Content Delivery Server installed so that I can use dynamic linking (and other features?). I've so far set up everything but the web servers. Any thoughts? edit Thanks to Ram S who linked me to a decent walkthrough, upvoted. I suppose I should have posed some questions as I didn't really ask a question. I guess I'm a little confused over the content deliver aspect. I have the Content Delivery split in two separate parts. cd1 and cd2 do the work of shifting information from the Content Manager to the Staging/Live web directories. web1 and web2 should do the work of serving the web pages to the outside world and will interact with the content data store (file system). Is this a correct setup? I need some parts of the Content Delivery on my web servers right? Theoretically I could get rid of the cd1 and cd2 servers and use web1 and web2 to do the deployment right? But I suspect this will put the web servers under unnecessary strain should there ever be a big publish. I've been reading the 2011 Installation Manual, Content Delivery section, and I'm finding it quite hard to get my head around!
