  • TileEntitySpecialRenderer only renders from certain angle

    - by Hullu2000
    I'm developing a Minecraft mod with Forge. I've added a tileentity and a custom renderer for it. The problem is: The block is only visible from sertain angles. I've compaed my code to other peoples code and it looks pretty much like them. The block is opaque and not to be rendered and the renderer is registered normally so the fault must be in the renderer. Here's the renderer code: public class TERender extends TileEntitySpecialRenderer { public void renderTileEntityAt(TileEntity tileEntity, double d, double d1, double d2, float f) { GL11.glPushMatrix(); GL11.glTranslatef((float)d, (float)d1, (float)d2); HeatConductTileEntity TE = (HeatConductTileEntity)tileEntity; renderBlock(TE, tileEntity.getWorldObj(), tileEntity.xCoord, tileEntity.yCoord, tileEntity.zCoord, mod.EMHeatConductor); GL11.glPopMatrix(); } public void renderBlock(HeatConductTileEntity tl, World world, int i, int j, int k, Block block) { Tessellator tessellator = Tessellator.instance; GL11.glColor3f(1, 1, 1); tessellator.startDrawingQuads(); tessellator.addVertex(0, 0, 0); tessellator.addVertex(1, 0, 0); tessellator.addVertex(1, 1, 0); tessellator.addVertex(0, 1, 0); tessellator.draw(); } }

  • C++ destructor seems to be called 'early'

    - by suicideducky
Please see the "edit" section for the updated information. Sorry for yet another C++ dtor question... However I can't seem to find one exactly like mine as all the others are assigning to STL containers (that will delete objects itself) whereas mine is to an array of pointers. So I have the following code fragment #include<iostream> class Block{ public: int x, y, z; int type; Block(){ x=1; y=2; z=3; type=-1; } }; template <class T> class Octree{ T* children[8]; public: ~Octree(){ for( int i=0; i<8; i++){ std::cout << "del:" << i << std::endl; delete children[i]; } } Octree(){ for( int i=0; i<8; i++ ) children[i] = new T; } // place newchild in array at [i] void set_child(int i, T* newchild){ children[i] = newchild; } // return child at [i] T* get_child(int i){ return children[i]; } // place newchild at [i] and return the old [i] T* swap_child(int i, T* newchild){ T* p = children[i]; children[i] = newchild; return p; } }; int main(){ Octree< Octree<Block> > here; std::cout << "nothing seems to have broken" << std::endl; } Looking through the output I notice that the destructor is being called many times before I think it should (as Octree is still in scope), the end of the output also shows: del:0 del:0 del:1 del:2 del:3 Process returned -1073741819 (0xC0000005) execution time : 1.685 s Press any key to continue. For some reason the destructor is going through the same point in the loop twice (0) and then dying. All of this occures before the "nothing seems to have gone wrong" line which I expected before any dtor was called. Thanks in advance :) EDIT The code I posted has some things removed that I thought were unnecessary but after copying and compiling the code I pasted I no longer get the error. What I removed was other integer attributes of the code. Here is the origional: #include<iostream> class Block{ public: int x, y, z; int type; Block(){ x=1; y=2; z=3; type=-1; } Block(int xx, int yy, int zz, int ty){ x=xx; y=yy; z=zz; type=ty; } Block(int xx, int yy, int zz){ x=xx; y=yy; z=zz; type=0; } }; template <class T> class Octree{ int x, y, z; int size; T* children[8]; public: ~Octree(){ for( int i=0; i<8; i++){ std::cout << "del:" << i << std::endl; delete children[i]; } } Octree(int xx, int yy, int zz, int size){ x=xx; y=yy; z=zz; size=size; for( int i=0; i<8; i++ ) children[i] = new T; } Octree(){ Octree(0, 0, 0, 10); } // place newchild in array at [i] void set_child(int i, T* newchild){ children[i] = newchild; } // return child at [i] T* get_child(int i){ return children[i]; } // place newchild at [i] and return the old [i] T* swap_child(int i, T* newchild){ T* p = children[i]; children[i] = newchild; return p; } }; int main(){ Octree< Octree<Block> > here; std::cout << "nothing seems to have broken" << std::endl; } Also, as for the problems with set_child, get_child and swap_child leading to possible memory leaks this will be solved as a wrapper class will either use get before set or use swap to get the old child and write this out to disk before freeing the memory itself. I am glad that it is not my memory management failing but rather another error. I have not made a copy and/or assignment operator yet as I was just testing the block tree out, I will almost certainly make them all private very soon. This version spits out -1073741819. Thank you all for your suggestions and I apologise for highjacking my own thread :$

  • How should I make up for the lack of static initializers in PHP?

    - by kahoon
I'm thinking about putting every class into a separate file and doing the static initialization outside of the class definition. The problem with this is the fact that the initialization will happen before the said class is actually needed (it will happen when the file which contains the class is included for the first time). It's a problem, because it may happen that the class won't be used at all, hence the initialization is unnecessary. And I think the practice of including the used files not in the beginning of your code is simply a dirty technique. If anybody has a viable solution to this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

  • delphi finalizalization code in a DLL

    - by PA
I am moving some functions to a shared DLL (I want to have some called as a Windows hook). The actual functions are currently in a unit, and it happens to have some initialization and some finalization code. I was initially thinking on doing a direct transformation from a unit to a library. So I moved the initialization code in between the main begin and end.. But then I realized I had no place to move the finalization code. I should create and register an special DLL entry point, instead. My question is. Can I leave the unit with all the functions and the initialization and finalization codes and just create a library stub that uses the unit? will the finalizationit be called?

  • Phonegap / jquery mobile slide transition not workign properly on first call

    - by Alexander Casassovici
    I have an awkward visual glitch. I want nice transition when changing pages on the app. Unfortunately first time i change to another page, Instead of sliding current pagg out and new page in , current page is immediately replaces by the new page, then slides out... and when it's out of view it's the new page is shown... the second time around it works like a charm though !!! This is running on iphone with jquery mobile + phonegap I made a video to make the issue clear: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ybvzh_wTnSE <body style="background-color: #000;"> <div id="container" style="display:none;"> <div id="side-menu" style="display:none;"> <div id="header_top"></div> <a href="#dives" onclick="showdives();"><div id="header_dives" class="selected"></div></a> <div id="header_spacer1"></div> <a href="#explore" onclick="showexplore();"><div id="header_explore"></div></a> <div id="header_spacer2"></div> <a href="#search" onclick="showsearch();"><div id="header_search"></div></a> <div id="header_spacer3"></div> <a href="#settings" onclick="showsettings();"><div id="header_settings"></div></a> <div id="header_bottom"></div> </div> <div id="slide_mask"> <!-- START of LOGIN page --> <div data-role="page" id="login"> <div id="home_frame"> <div id="home_logo"></div> <div id="home_fblogin" onclick="login()"></div> <div class="home_login"> <p>Email: <input type="text" name="user[email]" size="30"/></p> <p>Password: <input type="password" name="user[password]" size="30"/></p> <button onclick="show_page_home();">LOGIN</button> </div> </div> </div> <!-- END of LOGIN page --> <!-- START of LOGIN page --> <div data-role="page" id="dives" class="right_pane"> <p>My dives !</p> </div><!-- /content --> <div data-role="page" id="explore" class="hidden right_pane"> <p>My explore !</p> </div><!-- /content --> <div data-role="page" id="search" class="hidden right_pane"> <p>My search !</p> </div><!-- /content --> <div data-role="page" id="settings" class="hidden right_pane"> <p>My settings !</p> <button onclick="logout_db();">logout</button> </div><!-- /content --> <!-- END of LOGIN page --> </div> </div> <div id="log"></div> <div id="data"></div> </body> And the relevant CSS: body {margin: 0;   • WCF Bidirectional serialization fails

    - by Gena Verdel
I'm trying to take advantage of Bidirectional serialization of some relational Linq-2-Sql generated entity classes. When using Unidirectional option everything works just fine, bu the moment I add IsReferenceType=true, objects fail to get transported over the tcp binding. • Azure &ndash; Part 6 &ndash; Blob Storage Service

    - by Shaun
When migrate your application onto the Azure one of the biggest concern would be the external files. In the original way we understood and ensure which machine and folder our application (website or web service) is located in. So that we can use the MapPath or some other methods to read and write the external files for example the images, text files or the xml files, etc. But things have been changed when we deploy them on Azure. Azure is not a server, or a single machine, it’s a set of virtual server machine running under the Azure OS. And even worse, your application might be moved between thses machines. So it’s impossible to read or write the external files on Azure. In order to resolve this issue the Windows Azure provides another storage serviec – Blob, for us. Different to the table service, the blob serivce is to be used to store text and binary data rather than the structured data. It provides two types of blobs: Block Blobs and Page Blobs. Block Blobs are optimized for streaming. They are comprised of blocks, each of which is identified by a block ID and each block can be a maximum of 4 MB in size. Page Blobs are are optimized for random read/write operations and provide the ability to write to a range of bytes in a blob. They are a collection of pages. The maximum size for a page blob is 1 TB.   In the managed library the Azure SDK allows us to communicate with the blobs through these classes CloudBlobClient, CloudBlobContainer, CloudBlockBlob and the CloudPageBlob. Similar with the table service managed library, the CloudBlobClient allows us to reach the blob service by passing our storage account information and also responsible for creating the blob container is not exist. Then from the CloudBlobContainer we can save or load the block blobs and page blobs into the CloudBlockBlob and the CloudPageBlob classes.   Let’s improve our exmaple in the previous posts – add a service method allows the user to upload the logo image. In the server side I created a method name UploadLogo with 2 parameters: email and image. Then I created the storage account from the config file. I also add the validation to ensure that the email passed in is valid. 1: var storageAccount = CloudStorageAccount.FromConfigurationSetting("DataConnectionString"); 2: var accountContext = new DynamicDataContext<Account>(storageAccount); 3:  4: // validation 5: var accountNumber = accountContext.Load() 6: .Where(a => a.Email == email) 7: .ToList() 8: .Count; 9: if (accountNumber <= 0) 10: { 11: throw new ApplicationException(string.Format("Cannot find the account with the email {0}.", email)); 12: } Then there are three steps for saving the image into the blob service. First alike the table service I created the container with a unique name and create it if it’s not exist. 1: // create the blob container for account logos if not exist 2: CloudBlobClient blobStorage = storageAccount.CreateCloudBlobClient(); 3: CloudBlobContainer container = blobStorage.GetContainerReference("account-logo"); 4: container.CreateIfNotExist(); Then, since in this example I will just send the blob access URL back to the client so I need to open the read permission on that container. 1: // configure blob container for public access 2: BlobContainerPermissions permissions = container.GetPermissions(); 3: permissions.PublicAccess = BlobContainerPublicAccessType.Container; 4: container.SetPermissions(permissions); And at the end I combine the blob resource name from the input file name and Guid, and then save it to the block blob by using the UploadByteArray method. Finally I returned the URL of this blob back to the client side. 1: // save the blob into the blob service 2: string uniqueBlobName = string.Format("{0}_{1}.jpg", email, Guid.NewGuid().ToString()); 3: CloudBlockBlob blob = container.GetBlockBlobReference(uniqueBlobName); 4: blob.UploadByteArray(image); 5:  6: return blob.Uri.ToString(); Let’s update a bit on the client side application and see the result. Here I just use my simple console application to let the user input the email and the file name of the image. If it’s OK it will show the URL of the blob on the server side so that we can see it through the web browser. Then we can see the logo I’ve just uploaded through the URL here. You may notice that the blob URL was based on the container name and the blob unique name. In the document of the Azure SDK there’s a page for the rule of naming them, but I think the simple rule would be – they must be valid as an URL address. So that you cannot name the container with dot or slash as it will break the ADO.Data Service routing rule. For exmaple if you named the blob container as Account.Logo then it will throw an exception says 400 Bad Request.   Summary In this short entity I covered the simple usage of the blob service to save the images onto Azure. Since the Azure platform does not support the file system we have to migrate our code for reading/writing files to the blob service before deploy it to Azure. In order to reducing this effort Microsoft provided a new approch named Drive, which allows us read and write the NTFS files just likes what we did before. It’s built up on the blob serivce but more properly for files accessing. I will discuss more about it in the next post.   Hope this helps, Shaun All documents and related graphics, codes are provided "AS IS" without warranty of any kind. Copyright © Shaun Ziyan Xu. • First time using Java Web Start in Ubuntu - Fatal Launch Exception

    - by MountainX
I've been using Ubuntu for a while and Java Web Start applications have never "just worked" in the current or any prior version, so I ignored them until now. However, now I have a need to get them working in Firefox. When I am on a page like this: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/demos-nojavascript-137100.html I want to be able to click on the demos as suggested and have them run. I'm running Ubuntu 11.10 with Gnome 3 and/or Linux Mint 12 (64 bit) with OpenJDK 6, OpenJDK 7 and Sun Java 6. My default is currently: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/java $ whereis javaws javaws: /usr/bin/javaws /etc/alternatives/javaws - /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk/jre/bin/javaws Here's the error I get when I try to run a Java Web Start application: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Initialization Error: Could not initialize application. at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.createApplication(Launcher.java:776) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.launchApplication(Launcher.java:552) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher$TgThread.run(Launcher.java:887) Caused by: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Initialization Error: A fatal error occurred while trying to verify jars. at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.initializeResources(JNLPClassLoader.java:448) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.<init>(JNLPClassLoader.java:176) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.getInstance(JNLPClassLoader.java:295) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.createApplication(Launcher.java:767) ... 2 more Caused by: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Initialization Error: A fatal error occurred while trying to verify jars. at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.initializeResources(JNLPClassLoader.java:448) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.<init>(JNLPClassLoader.java:176) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.JNLPClassLoader.getInstance(JNLPClassLoader.java:295) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.createApplication(Launcher.java:767) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.launchApplication(Launcher.java:552) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher$TgThread.run(Launcher.java:887) Here's another example: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/events/keylistener.html net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Read Error: Could not read or parse the JNLP file. at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.fromUrl(Launcher.java:491) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.launch(Launcher.java:283) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.run(Boot.java:199) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.run(Boot.java:51) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.main(Boot.java:165) Caused by: java.io.IOException: port out of range:-2147483648 at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.openURL(JNLPFile.java:255) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:185) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:162) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:148) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.fromUrl(Launcher.java:477) ... 5 more Caused by: java.io.IOException: port out of range:-2147483648 at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.openURL(JNLPFile.java:255) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:185) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:162) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.JNLPFile.<init>(JNLPFile.java:148) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.fromUrl(Launcher.java:477) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Launcher.launch(Launcher.java:283) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.run(Boot.java:199) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.run(Boot.java:51) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at net.sourceforge.jnlp.runtime.Boot.main(Boot.java:165)

  • Built-in card-reader doesn't work. HP Compaq nx6325 notebook

    - by user10940
I have a HP-Compaq nx6325 notebook with an built-in card-reader (SD, MS/Pro, MMC, SM, XD) and the ubuntu (10.10.) don't see it. I've tried to install it manually, with this steps (and with this tifmxx driver), but doesn't work. • Devoxx 2011 Trip Report + Pictures

    - by arungupta
3350 attendees from 40 countries lived in "paradise" for 5 days last week. This paradise had 170+ rock star speakers delivering 200+ hours of technical content in about 150 sessions. And it truly was a paradise with a clear differentiation from other Java conferences. There were several Oracle speakers at the paradise covering the entire gamut of Java platform. I delivered a Java EE 6 hands-on lab (new content), showcased Java EE 7 and GlassFish 4.0 early work at the keynote, and participated in a panel to talk about Contexts and Dependency Injection. The demo in the keynote showed how to deploy a Java EE application in a managed environment. The demo showed a Conference Planner application that can be used by conference organizers to display sessions, tracks, and speaker information. This same application can be deployed and display data from JavaOne 2011 or Devoxx 2011 based upon the SQL chosen for database initialization. If javaone-sf-2011.sql is chosen for datbase initialization then the application looks like as shown: If devoxx-2011.sql is chosen then the application looks like as shown: And of course, clicking on Tracks, Speakers, Sessions shows you information from the respective conference. The complete source code for the application and detailed instructions are availaable at glassfish.org/javaone2011. In short: Download the sample app and unzip Download GlassFish build b05. Download platform-specific Load Balancer template Run "bin/install.sh" to configure GlassFish Pick javaone-sf-2011.sql or devoxx-2011.sql for database initialization You can also watch the application in action in this video: A breaking news shared at the conference was that Devoxx France is coming from April 18- 20 and 75% of the talks will be in French. Stay tuned for more details on that. I'm sure Antonio and gang will put up a great show out there! Just a tip for the first timers to Devoxx ... A bus leaves from Brussels airport to Antwerp city center between 4am - 11pm at the top of every hour, takes about 45 minutes, and costs 10 euros (only cash). Take a tram #6 (going towards Luchtbal) from Astrid station (next to the city center) and get off at the last station for Metropolis. It takes about 15 minutes. Purchase a day pass at the station using kiosks (much cheaper) or you can buy in the bus as well (about double the price). Either way, cash only. Here are a few pictures captured from the event: And the complete album here: Thank you Stephan for giving me an opportunity to speak at my first Devoxx. I hope to be back next year, just in time for Java EE 7 going final!

  • ORM Profiler v1.1 has been released!

    - by FransBouma
We've released ORM Profiler v1.1, which has the following new features: Real time profiling A real time viewer (RTV) has been added, which gives insight in the activity as it is received by the client, in two views: a chronological connection overview and an activity graph overview. This RTV allows the user to directly record to a snapshot using record buttons, pause the view, mark a range to create a snapshot from that range, and view graphs about the # of connection open actions and # of commands per second. The RTV has a 'range' in which it keeps live data and auto-cleans data that's older than this range. Screenshot of the activity graphs part of the real-time viewer: Low-level activity tab A new tab has been added to the Application tabs: the Low-level activity tab. This tab shows the main activity as it has been received over the named pipe. It can help to get insight in the chronological activity without the grouping over connections, so multiple connections at the same time per thread are easier to spot. Clicking a command will sync the rest of the application tabs, clicking a row will show the details below the splitter bar, as it is done with the other application tabs as well. Default application name in interceptor When an empty string or null is passed for application name to the Initialize method of the interceptor, the AppDomain's friendly name is used instead. Copy call stack to clipboard A call stack viewed in a grid in various parts of the UI is now copyable to the clipboard by clicking a button. Enable/Disable interceptor from the config file It's now possible to enable/disable the interceptor Initialization from the application's config file, using: Code: <appSettings> <add key="ORMProfilerEnabled" value="true"/> </appSettings> if value is true, the interceptor's Initialize method will proceed. If the value is false, the interceptor's Initialize method will not proceed and initialization won't be performed, meaning no interception will take place. If the setting is absent, or misconfigured, the Initialize method will proceed as normal and perform the initialization. Stored procedure calls for select databases are now properly displayed as a call For the databases: SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, Sybase ASA, Sybase ASE and Informix a stored procedure call is displayed as an execute/call statement and copy to clipboard works as-is. I'm especially happy with the new real-time profiling feature in ORM Profiler, which is the flagship feature for this release: it offers a completely new way to use the profiler, namely directly during debugging: you can immediately see what's going on without the necessity of a snapshot. The activity graph feature combined with the auto-cleanup of older data, allows you to keep the profiler open for a long period of time and see any spike of activity on the profiled application.

  • How to flip a BC6/BC7 texture?

    - by postgoodism
I have some code to load DDS image files into OpenGL textures, and I'd like to extend it to support the BC6 and BC7 compressed formats introduced in D3D11. Since DirectX and OpenGL disagree about whether a texture's origin is in the upper-left or lower-left corner, my DDS loader flips each image's pixels along the Y axis before passing the pixels to OpenGL. Flipping compressed textures presents an additional wrinkle: in addition to flipping each row of 4x4-pixel blocks, you also need to flip the pixels within each block. I found code here to flip BC1/BC2/BC3 blocks, and from the block diagrams on MSDN it was easy to adapt the BC3-flipping code to handle BC4 and BC5. The BC6 and BC7 formats look significantly more intimidating, though. Is there a similar bit-twiddling trick to flip these formats, or would I have to fully decompress and recompress each block?

  • How to Achieve Real-Time Data Protection and Availabilty....For Real

    - by JoeMeeks
There is a class of business and mission critical applications where downtime or data loss have substantial negative impact on revenue, customer service, reputation, cost, etc. Because the Oracle Database is used extensively to provide reliable performance and availability for this class of application, it also provides an integrated set of capabilities for real-time data protection and availability. Active Data Guard, depicted in the figure below, is the cornerstone for accomplishing these objectives because it provides the absolute best real-time data protection and availability for the Oracle Database. This is a bold statement, but it is supported by the facts. It isn’t so much that alternative solutions are bad, it’s just that their architectures prevent them from achieving the same levels of data protection, availability, simplicity, and asset utilization provided by Active Data Guard. Let’s explore further. Backups are the most popular method used to protect data and are an essential best practice for every database. Not surprisingly, Oracle Recovery Manager (RMAN) is one of the most commonly used features of the Oracle Database. But comparing Active Data Guard to backups is like comparing apples to motorcycles. Active Data Guard uses a hot (open read-only), synchronized copy of the production database to provide real-time data protection and HA. In contrast, a restore from backup takes time and often has many moving parts - people, processes, software and systems – that can create a level of uncertainty during an outage that critical applications can’t afford. This is why backups play a secondary role for your most critical databases by complementing real-time solutions that can provide both data protection and availability. Before Data Guard, enterprises used storage remote-mirroring for real-time data protection and availability. Remote-mirroring is a sophisticated storage technology promoted as a generic infrastructure solution that makes a simple promise – whatever is written to a primary volume will also be written to the mirrored volume at a remote site. Keeping this promise is also what causes data loss and downtime when the data written to primary volumes is corrupt – the same corruption is faithfully mirrored to the remote volume making both copies unusable. This happens because remote-mirroring is a generic process. It has no  intrinsic knowledge of Oracle data structures to enable advanced protection, nor can it perform independent Oracle validation BEFORE changes are applied to the remote copy. There is also nothing to prevent human error (e.g. a storage admin accidentally deleting critical files) from also impacting the remote mirrored copy. Remote-mirroring tricks users by creating a false impression that there are two separate copies of the Oracle Database. In truth; while remote-mirroring maintains two copies of the data on different volumes, both are part of a single closely coupled system. Not only will remote-mirroring propagate corruptions and administrative errors, but the changes applied to the mirrored volume are a result of the same Oracle code path that applied the change to the source volume. There is no isolation, either from a storage mirroring perspective or from an Oracle software perspective.  Bottom line, storage remote-mirroring lacks both the smarts and isolation level necessary to provide true data protection. Active Data Guard offers much more than storage remote-mirroring when your objective is protecting your enterprise from downtime and data loss. Like remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is an exact block for block copy of the primary. Unlike remote-mirroring, an Active Data Guard replica is NOT a tightly coupled copy of the source volumes - it is a completely independent Oracle Database. Active Data Guard’s inherent knowledge of Oracle data block and redo structures enables a separate Oracle Database using a different Oracle code path than the primary to use the full complement of Oracle data validation methods before changes are applied to the synchronized copy. These include: physical check sum, logical intra-block checking, lost write validation, and automatic block repair. The figure below illustrates the stark difference between the knowledge that remote-mirroring can discern from an Oracle data block and what Active Data Guard can discern. An Active Data Guard standby also provides a range of additional services enabled by the fact that it is a running Oracle Database - not just a mirrored copy of data files. An Active Data Guard standby database can be open read-only while it is synchronizing with the primary. This enables read-only workloads to be offloaded from the primary system and run on the active standby - boosting performance by utilizing all assets. An Active Data Guard standby can also be used to implement many types of system and database maintenance in rolling fashion. Maintenance and upgrades are first implemented on the standby while production runs unaffected at the primary. After the primary and standby are synchronized and all changes have been validated, the production workload is quickly switched to the standby. The only downtime is the time required for user connections to transfer from one system to the next. These capabilities further expand the expectations of availability offered by a data protection solution beyond what is possible to do using storage remote-mirroring. So don’t be fooled by appearances.  Storage remote-mirroring and Active Data Guard replication may look similar on the surface - but the devil is in the details. Only Active Data Guard has the smarts, the isolation, and the simplicity, to provide the best data protection and availability for the Oracle Database. Stay tuned for future blog posts that dive into the many differences between storage remote-mirroring and Active Data Guard along the dimensions of data protection, data availability, cost, asset utilization and return on investment. For additional information on Active Data Guard, see: Active Data Guard Technical White Paper Active Data Guard vs Storage Remote-Mirroring Active Data Guard Home Page on the Oracle Technology Network

I need to tweak my Dell XPS 13z SSD for maximum performance and life cycle than I read the solutions explained here, but it is for 11.10 and my fstab is different. For now my fstab is looks like this: proc /proc proc nodev, noexec, nosuid 0 0 # / was on /dev/sda1 during installation UUID=abf5ce9e-bdb7-4b2f-a7bd-bbd9efa72a98 / ext4 errors=remount-ro 0 1 # /home was on /dev/sda2 during installation UUID=491427b2-7482-4483-b6eb-7c564b991aff /home ext4 defaults 0 2 # swap was on /dev/sda3 during installation #UUID=7551000d-e708-4e0f-9fd2-9f93119f63fb none swap sw 0 0 /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 none swap sw 0 0 tmpfs /tmp tmpfs mode=1777 And my rc.local is looks like this: echo noop > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler echo deadline > /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler echo 1 > /sys/block/sda/queue/iosched/fifo_batch exit 0 Do you have any suggestions, what should I do? • How can I optimise ext4 for reliability?

    - by amin
As ext4 was introduced as more reliable than ext3 with block journals, is there any chance to suppose it 100% reliable? What if enabling block journaling on it, which is disabled by default? As friend's guide to explain my case in more detail: I have an embedded linux device, after installation keyboard and monitor is detached and it works standalone. My duty is to make sure it has reliable file-system so with errors there is no way for manual correct faults on device. I can't force my customer to use a ups with each device to ensure no fault by power-failure. What more can ext4 offer me besides block journaling? Thanks in advance.

  • How can I gain access to a player instance in a Minecraft mod?

    - by Andrew Graber
I'm creating Minecraft mod with a pickaxe that takes away experience when you break a block. The method for taking away experience from a player is addExperience on EntityPlayer, so I need to get an instance of EntityPlayer for the player using my pickaxe when the pickaxe breaks a block, so that I can remove the appropriate amount of experience. My pickaxe class currently looks like this: public class ExperiencePickaxe extends ItemPickaxe { public ExperiencePickaxe(int ItemID, EnumToolMaterial material){ super(ItemID, material); } public boolean onBlockDestroyed(ItemStack par1ItemStack, World par2World, int par3, int par4, int par5, int par6, EntityLiving par7EntityLiving) { if ((double)Block.blocksList[par3].getBlockHardness(par2World, par4, par5, par6) != 0.0D) { EntityPlayer e = new EntityPlayer(); // create an instance e.addExperience(-1); } return true; } } Obviously, I cannot actually create a new EntityPlayer since it is an abstract class. How can I get access to the player using my pickaxe?

  • Geolocation Blocking and SEO

    - by Mahesh
I'm in process to block a particular geolocation from accessing my site. But i am not sure if this is going to raise any flags on my website. Basically i'm getting lots of spam from particular state and there are some webmaster copying my content without any attribution or backlink. I feel that is enough and i wish to save my bandwidth on that state or geolocation. So my question is how to block particular geolocation ? Do you have any suggestions for php scripts that help block particular geolocation ? and another question: if there are any SEO disadvantages ?

  • What's the difference between the code inside a finally clause and the code located after catch clause?

    - by facebook-100005613813158
My java code is just like below: public void check()throws MissingParamException{ ...... } public static void main(){ PrintWriter out = response.getWriter(); try { check(); } catch (MissingParamException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block out.println("message:"+e.getMessage()); e.printStackTrace(); out.close(); }finally{ out.close(); } //out.close(); } Then, my confusion is: what the difference if I put out.close() in a finally code block or if I just remove finally code block and put out.close() behind catch clause (which has been commented in the code). I know that in both ways, the out.close() will be executed because I know that whether the exception happened, the code behind the catch clause will always be executed.
