  • Using User Controls in FormView templates.

    - by ProfK
I find the repetition of sets of controls for each of the EditItemTemplate, InsertItemTemplate, and ItemTemplate templates of a FormView to be tedious and risky, in terms duplicating layout and code etc. I would much rather create a xxxDetails user control, and use this in each template, cutting layout and code location down to one location. However, this introduces several complexities for data binding scenarios. Are there any extablished patterns or practice guides for using user controls in these scenarios?

  • Approach for authentication and storing user details.

    - by cappuccino
Hey folks, I am using the Zend Framework but my question is broadly about sessions / databases / auth (PHP MySQL). Currently this is my approach to authentication: 1) User signs in, the details are checked in database. - Standard stuff really. 2) If the details are correct only the user's unique ID is stored in the session and a security token (user unique ID + IP + Browser info + salt). The session in written to the filesystem. I've been reading around and many are saying that storing stuff in sessions is not a good idea, and that you should really only write a unique ID which refers back to the user's details and a security token to prevent session hijacking. So this is the approach i've taken, i use to write the user's details in session, but i've moved that out. Wanted to know your opinions on this. I'm keeping sessions in the filesystem since i don't run on multiple servers, and since i'm only writting a tiny tiny bit of data to sessions, i thought that performance would be greater keeping sessions in the filesystem to reduce load on the database. Once the session is written on authentication, it really is only read-only from then on. 3) The rest of the user's details (like subscription details, permissions, account info etc) are cached in the filesystem (this can always be easily moved to memory if i wanted even more performance). So rather than keeping the user's details in session, the user's details are cached in the file system. I'm using Zend_Cache and the unique cache id is something like md5(/cache/auth/2892), the number is the unique id of the user. I guess the benefit of this method is that once the user is logged in, there is essentially not database queries being run to get the user's details. Just wonder if this approach is better than keeping the whole lot in session... 4) As the user moves throughout the site the only thing that is checked is the ID in the session and the security token. So, overall the first question is 1) is the filesystem more efficient than a database for this purpose 2) have i taken enough security precautions 3) is separating user detail's from the session into a cached file a pointless task? Thanks.

  • WPF Binding Between Controls

    - by David Ward
I have a control on a page that contains a listbox. I also have another control which is a detail view. Both of the controls have their own ViewModel which their child controls bind to. Image Outlook. It has a list of folders and when you select a folder the detail control displays the contents of the folder. How can I bind the detail control to the selected item in the list control?

  • Adding controls dynamically not XHTML formatted

    - by LiverpoolsNumber9
Hi - I'm adding generic html controls to repeater items at "onitemdatabound". It works absolutely fine but just wondering (or hoping) if there's any way of getting those controls to render on the page in XHTML format? It's just an annoyance really - my markup is beautifully clean and correctly indented until the repeater! Using .net 3.5, and C#. Thanks in advance, Rob

  • Controls on main window using Visual C++ designer?

    - by PatrickBateman
Is is possible to draw controls using Visual C++ designer on the main window, in the same way you can design dialogs? I'd preferably like to be able to design the main window controls this way without using MFC, rather than creating them on WM_CREATE. EDIT: I don't want a dialog-based app, just to be able to design the main window graphically similar to what can be done using Windows Forms Designer in .NET?

  • 1) PasswordResets emails user when requesting password reset

    - by Surge Pedroza
I've been trying to add a password reset for users that forget their password. The users clicks on forgot password? on sign up page. Then the user types their email and clicks reset password, which creates a token and sends an email with a link to reset their password. For the most part, it was working well, and then it suddenly stopped working. When a user clicks password reset, it brings up the error message: Password cant be blank, password is too short(6 min) Ran into this error in video 275 How I Test. on 11:20 Failure/Error: click_button "Reset Password" ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed: Password can't be blank, Password is too short (minimum is 6 characters), Password confirmation can't be blank # ./app/models/user.rb:30:in send_password_reset' # ./app/controllers/password_resets_controller.rb:7:increate' # (eval):2:in click_button' # ./spec/requests/password_resets_spec.rb:9:inblock (2 levels) in ' Finished in 13.66 seconds 95 examples, 1 failure This is some of the code being used. user.rb # == Schema Information # # Table name: users # # id :integer not null, primary key # name :string(255) # email :string(255) # created_at :datetime not null # updated_at :datetime not null # class User < ActiveRecord::Base attr_accessible :name, :email, :password, :password_confirmation has_secure_password before_save { |user| user.email = email.downcase } before_save :create_remember_token validates :name, presence: true, length: { maximum: 50 } VALID_EMAIL_REGEX = /\A[\w+\-.]+@[a-z\d\-.]+\.[a-z]+\z/i validates :email, presence: true, format: { with: VALID_EMAIL_REGEX }, uniqueness: { case_sensitive: false } validates :password, presence: true, length: { minimum: 6 } validates :password_confirmation, presence: true def send_password_reset generate_token(:password_reset_token) self.password_reset_sent_at = Time.zone.now save! • Fünf Jahre Bonn-to-Code.Net – das muss gefeiert werden!

    - by WeigeltRo

  • How can the blank space in a C# comboBox be filled as a hint for the user?

    - by Jim Fell
When a comboBox in C# is dynamically populated the comboBox appears blank until the user clicks on it to view the available items in the dropdown. Ideally, I would like to use this blank space (prior to clicking the dropdown) to be used to give the user a hint as to what s/he should do. For example, it might say something like, "Select such-and-such..." Is there a way to do this? I tried setting the Text property, but that didn't do anything. I am using Microsoft Visual C# 2008 Express Edition. Thanks.
