• Using Fancybox with Google Static Maps

  Setup I have multiple links on a page with the class location_link Each Links rel attribute is equal to a city state combo (i.e.,Omaha, NE) Once the page is loaded, a JavaScript function loops through all of the location_link items and binds a click event to them using jQuery. This click event fires a call to the Fancybox constructor that is supposed to show a Google Map of the location that link is associated with The Problem: Whenever I click on one of the "location links", I get the following error message: The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later. The The Image URL I'm using does resolve and pulls back the data I need When I put the above mentioned URL into a standard <img> tag, the map shows up just fine. I'd like to pull this off without having to create some sort of dummy <img> tag that I'm constantly switching the src attribute out of. Hopefully, you'll find this information helpful. • Error editing a blob field in ArcGIS Engine

  I have a GIS layer backed by a MSSQL db. The features on the layer have, say, one field of type esriFieldTypeString and one of type esriFieldTypeBlob. I can edit the string field just fine, but, when I try to edit a blob, StopEditOperation() throws a very generic exception (message: "Error HRESULT E_FAIL has been returned from a call to a COM component.", error code: -2147467259). I couldn't find anything related in the server log. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? • InstallShield 2010 with license - no license for automatic build system (CI) as Windows service

  I really need help here. We are using CI build-process (Hudson) as an automated build system using Msbuild. The CI run in Apache Tomcat 6 that run under the credentials of a domain user (not a local Windows user ). Every time the CI try to build an InstallShield project (using isproj files) we get a license error message: " C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : -7159: The product license has expired or has not yet been initialized. You must launch the IDE to configure the product license in order to proceed. C:\Program Files\MSBuild\InstallShield\2010\InstallShield.targets(62,3): error : Exception Caught". If I log in to the same machine with the same domain user credentials and build the InstallShield project there is a license and it is working well. Adding the user to the local Users group doesn't help (no license). Adding the user to the local Administrators group helps and it is working. We do not want the user to be in the local Administrators group - for various reasons. What do I need to do to make it work? Do I need to add permissions to the use? Help will be highly appreciated. • Improving long-polling Ajax performance

  I'm writing a webapp (Firefox-compatible only) which uses long polling (via jQuery's ajax abilities) to send more-or-less constant updates from the server to the client. I'm concerned about the effects of leaving this running for long periods of time, say, all day or overnight. After leaving this running overnight, it tends to make Firefox crawl. I'd been thinking that this could be partially caused by a large stack depth since I've basically written an infinitely recursive function. However, if I use Firebug and throw a breakpoint into fetch, it looks like this is not the case. The stack that Firebug shows me is only about 4 or 5 frames deep, even after an hour. One of the solutions I'm considering is changing my recursive function to an iterative one, but I can't figure out how I would insert the delay in between Ajax requests without spinning. I've looked at the JS 1.7 "yield" keyword but I can't quite wrap my head around it, to figure out if it's what I need here. Is the best solution just to do a hard refresh on the page periodically, say, once every hour? Is there a better/leaner long-polling design pattern that won't put a hurt on the browser even after running for 8 or 12 hours? Or should I just skip the long polling altogether and use a different "constant update" pattern since I usually know how frequently the server will have a response for me?

• Webservice Connection Refused

  I have developed a web app using a webservice. Everything works fine in the development environment. I have moved the webservice to the production server in a test folder behind my main website. I can browse to the published service localy on the production server and i can access the remote service from my development machine. If I run my web app in my development environment I can use the remote webservice no problem. If I move the web application to the production environment the browser outputs this error when the application performs the ajax login method. • Recover a folder or file in TortoiseSVN whilst also retaining all history.

  In revision 1 a folder existed. In revision 2 the folder was accidently deleted and the change committed. We wish to roll back such that the folder is present, and retain its history. In the TortoiseSVN docs it indicates 'how' in the section titled "Getting a deleted file or folder back". To quote: Getting a deleted file or folder back If you have deleted a file or a folder and already committed that delete operation to the repository, then a normal TortoiseSVN - Revert can't bring it back anymore. But the file or folder is not lost at all. If you know the revision the file or folder got deleted (if you don't, use the log dialog to find out) open the repository browser and switch to that revision. Then select the file or folder you deleted, right-click and select [Context Menu] - [Copy to...] as the target for that copy operation select the path to your working copy. A switch retrieves the file into my working copy as one would expect, however there is no "Copy to" option on the context menu when I right click this working copy. If I open the repos browser, there is a copy to option, but it seems this simply takes a copy of the file. The solution I feel is to do a Branch/Tag, but if I try this from a prior revision to the same path in the repository SVN throws error that the path already exists. • TransactionScope won't work with DB2 provider

  Hi Everyone, I've been trying to use TransactionScope with a DB2 database (using DB2 .Net provider v 9.0.0.2 and c# 2.0) which SHOULD be supported according to IBM. I have tried all the advice i could find on the IBM forums (such as here) to no avail. I have enabled XA transactions on my XP Sp2 machine, tried also from a Win 2003 Server machine but i consistently get the infamous error: ERROR [58005] [IBM][DB2/NT] SQL0998N Error occurred during transaction or heuristic processing. Reason Code = "16". Subcode = "2-80004005". SQLSTATE=58005 The windows event log says: The XA Transaction Manager attempted to load the XA resource manager DLL. The call to LOADLIBRARY for the XA resource manager DLL failed: DLL=C:\APPS\IBM\DB2v95fp2\SQLLIB\BIN\DB2APP.DLL File=d:\comxp_sp2\com\com1x\dtc\dtc\xatm\src\xarmconn.cpp Line=2467. Also, granted the NETWORK SERVICE user full rights to the folder and dll. • fmod VS2008 unresolved externals in dependant project

  Im currently trying to use the latest stable fmod ex in my project. I have a main executable in a project called engine4, and a project named DX9Platform in the solution as well which ti depends on. All the fmod code is in this DX9Platform project, which generates a lib file. DX9Platform includes fmodex_vc.lib and builds fine. However buildign Engien4 results in unresolved external symbol messages referencing files that use fmod in the DX9Platform project I have tried adding fmodex_vc.lib to the Engine4 project, with no success, how do I fix this? I created a MyComponent.dll assembly with deploytool from MATLAB 2010a, target framework - 3.5. But when I`m trying to deploy webfigure on my local iis 7.5 which runs on Win7 x32 - iis app pool crashes. There is an entry in System Event Log "A process serving application pool 'Classic .NET AppPool' suffered a fatal communication error with the Windows Process Activation Service. The process id was '3676'. The data field contains the error number 6D000780". This happens when MyComponent is instantiating. What I could forget when moved to IIS? Other examples, like magic square console application, runs perfect, and every matlab component instantiating, but not in IIS environment.

• IIS: No Session being handed out, but only in production

  I've reproduced this in a simple project - details below. It's a WCF service in ASP.NET compatibility mode. What I'm seeing is that when run on the dev machine (Win7), a HTTP session id is available inside the service operation (HttpContext.Current.Session is non-null). But when deployed to the server (Win2k8R2), I get "No session". On both machines the app is configured to use the classic app pool, and the app pools themselves are configured identically as far as I can tell. The only differences I can discern between the two applications is that on the dev box, under "Handler Mappings", ISAPI-dll is disabled (not on the server), and on the server there's a spurious handler called "AboMapperCustom-7105160" (does not exist on the dev box). What should I be looking at next? Am I missing something head-slappingly simple?   I'd like to implement a tab bar using jquery-ui-tabs that has been customised to work like it does on HootSuite. Try this on HootSuite to see what I mean: Log in to your hootsuite.com account Click the + symbol to the right of your tabs Add tabs named "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM" until a "More..." tab appears You'll see this: HootSuite includes the following features, all of which I would like to do: Fit as many tabs as possible onto the screen. Users with larger screens would see more tabs. If they run out of space, a "More..." tab would appear with a drop-down list Clicking onto the More tab would drop down a list of additional tabs Tabs can be dragged and rearranged. Tabs in the More drop-down list can be dragged to the tab bar Delete tabs with a small X next to the tab name Add tabs with a + icon to the right of the last tab I already have a tab bar working that does 4 and 6. I found a Paging Tab Plugin which is pretty cool, but works differently. Does anyone know of plugins or techniques that would help me accomplish the above? My thought is to not really make the More tab a real tab, but just an object that looks like a tab. I'd add logic to the tabs.add method to calculate if another tab can fit. If it can't, then I would add the details of the tab to my separate "More" list. There'd be a fair amount of effort to get this all working, so if there are any plugins that would help, I'd love to hear about them.

• ODBC continually prompts for password

  I have an application built in Access 2003 that uses a system DSN ODBC to connect to a SQL Server. The ODBC uses SQL authentication. When the application is started, the user is prompted to authenticate into the database. I have another computer set up within the same domain that has Access 2007 installed on it. I log in using the same credentials that I use to get on the machine that has Access 2003. I converted my application to Access 2007 format and everything works fine. However, when other users try to use the application, they are prompted to enter the database password every time a table is accessed. Thinking it was a problem with my ODBC, I confirmed that the connections were set up the same way on both of my machines, and the user's machine. Here is the interesting part, when the user logged into my machine, it started prompting for the password every time. When I logged into the user's machine, the application worked fine. Anyone have any ideas? All help is appreciated!

• A couple of questions on exceptions/flow control and the application of custom exceptions

  1) Custom exceptions can help make your intentions clear. How can this be? The intention is to handle or log the exception, regardless of whether the type is built-in or custom. The main reason I use custom exceptions is to not use one exception type to cover the same problem in different contexts (eg parameter is null in system code which may be effect by an external factor and an empty shopping basket). However, the partition between system and business-domain code and using different exception types seems very obvious and not making the most of custom exceptions. Related to this, if custom exceptions cover the business exceptions, I could also get all the places which are sources for exceptions at the business domain level using "Find all references". Is it worth adding exceptions if you check the arguments in a method for being null, use them a few times, and then add the catch? Is it a realistic risk that an external factor or some other freak cause could cause the argument to be null after being checked anyway? 2) What does it mean when exceptions should not be used to control the flow of programs and why not? I assume this is like: if (exceptionVariable != null) { } Is it generally good practise to fill every variable in an exception object? As a developer, do you expect every possible variable to be filled by another coder?

• Putting a versioned-but-not-via-source control project in source control

  I have some old code (an old but still maintained VB6 application) that from a source control point of view is the ultimate example of the plumber's plumbing (or cobbler's shoes). It's been version controlled by the approach of making a new directory for each version. Are there any major downsides to taking the following approach? Do the initial check-in of all files Erase all files from the working directory, then copy all files from the next version to the working directory Check them in Goto #2 until done Note that I have a general change log text file which I'd grab the comments from for each version I check in/commit. I don't have (or really care about at this point) comments on a per-file- basis. I don't really know at this point what files have changed between versions, and being lazy I figured I could avoid doing file compares between versions to find out, so that's why I'm taking the approach above. Not to mention that erasing all the files first allows file deletions to be detected. I specifically haven't mentioned which version control tool I'm using since I'm hoping (also assuming, but maybe very incorrectly) that the answer is fairly independent. When I use terms like "check-in" I use them in the general sense, not specific to a tool.

  I'm having this weird problem, where including the phonegap.js file in my project causes the app to crash on both the android emulator and my phone. I got the latest file from GitHub, so I can't see why this isn't working. This happens even if I try to build the sample project that's included in the PhoneGap download...
