  • Have ASP page call save function anytime the user tries to navigate away from page

    What I have is an input page with a bunch of dynamically created textboxes for the user to input data. The textboxes are dynamically created because the number that are needed are not known until the user selects some options on the page. So what I need to have happen is if the user tries to either A) navigate away from the page or B) select different options bringing up new textboxes. Anything the user may have typed into the textboxes needs to automatically be saved to the database. Like they clicked on the save button on the page. This doesn't sound like a vary smart way to do things or even an easy way to do things but this is the requirement I have been given. No message just save to the database. I have looked into things like onbeforepageunload javascript but that mostly tries to stop the user from navigating away I can't call any code behind code from it. Any help is appreciated. Note : The number of the texboxes with data can be any where between 20 and 500. Yes very crazy but not my idea.

  • Advice on Minimizing Stored Procedure Parameters

    Hi Guys, I have an ASP.NET MVC Web Application that interacts with a SQL Server 2008 database via Entity Framework 4.0. On a particular page, i call a stored procedure in order to pull back some results based on selections on the UI. Now, the UI has around 20 different input selections, ranging from a textbox, dropdown list, checkboxes, etc. Each of those inputs are "grouped" into logical sections. Example: Search box : "Foo" Checkbox A1: ticked, Checkbox A2: unticked Dropdown A: option 3 selected Checkbox B1: ticked, Checkbox B2: ticked, Checkbox B3: unticked So i need to call the SPROC like this: exec SearchPage_FindResults @SearchQuery = 'Foo', @IncludeA1 = 1, @IncludeA2 = 0, @DropDownSelection = 3, @IncludeB1 = 1, @IncludeB2 = 1, @IncludeB3 = 0 The UI is not too important to this question - just wanted to give some perspective. Essentially, i'm pulling back results for a search query, filtering these results based on a bunch of (optional) selections a user can filter on. Now, My questions/queries: What's the best way to pass these parameters to the stored procedure? Are there any tricks/new ways (e.g SQL Server 2008) to do this? Special "table" parameters/arrays - can we pass through User-Defined-Types? Keep in mind im using Entity Framework 4.0 - but could always use classic ADO.NET for this if required. What about XML? What are the serialization/de-serialization costs here? Is it worth it? How about a parameter for each logical section? Comma-seperated perhaps? Just thinking out loud. This page is particulary important from a user point of view, and needs to perform really well. The stored procedure is already heavy in logic, so i want to minimize the performance implications - so keep that in mind. With that said - what is the best approach here?

  • AlarmManager Calling Function in Same Class

    I am trying to give a LocationClient a two-minute period to connect before calling getLastLocation on it. Initially I implemented this with a Timer (and TimerTask), but because Timers do not work in sleepmode, I would like to translate it to an AlarmManager. However, I am a bit confused as to how to do this, considering an AlarmManager calls another class, whereas I want to remain in the same class and simply delay for a two-minute period. This is how it looks with a Timer.   • Unexpected result from reduce function

    I would like to get the smallest element from a vector. For this I use combine the reduce and min functions. However, when providing my own implementation of min I get unexpected results: user=> (reduce (fn [x y] (< x y) x y) [1 2 3 2 1 0 1 2]) 2 user=> (reduce min [1 2 3 2 1 0 1 2 3]) 0 The reduce with standard min returns 0 as expected. However, when I provide my own implementation it returns 2. What am I doing wrong?

  • EF 4.0 Guid or Int as A primary Key

    I am Implementing custom ASPNetMembership using EF 4.0 Is there any reason why i should use Guid as a primary key in User tables? As far as i know Int as a PK on SQL Server more performanced than strings. And Int is easier to iterate. Also, for security purpose if i need to pass this it id somewhere in url i may encrypt it somehow and pass it like a strings with no probs. But if i want to use auto generated Guid on SQL Server side using EF 4.0 i need to do this trick http://leedumond.com/blog/using-a-guid-as-an-entitykey-in-entity-framework-4/ I can't see any cases why i should use Guid as PK, may be only one if system going to have millions ans millions users, but also, theoretically, Guid could be duplicated sometime isn't so? Anyway Int32 size is 2,147.483.647 it is pretty much even for very-very big system, but if this number is still not enough I may go with Int64, in that cases I may have 9,223.372.036.854.775.807 rows. Pretty much huh? From another hand, M$ using Guids as PK in their ASPNetMembership implementation. [aspnetdb].[aspnet_Users] - PK UserId Type uniqueidentifier, should be some reasons/explanation why the did it?! May be some one has any ideas/experience about that?

    I know that there is a code to import .csv data into a mysql table, and I'm using this one: LOAD DATA INFILE "file.csv" INTO TABLE foo FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," LINES TERMINATED BY "\\r\\n"; The data inside this .csv are lines like this example: 08/e0/Breast_Cancer_Res_2001_Nov_2_3(1)_55-60.tar.gz Breast Cancer Res. 2001 Nov 2; 3(1):55-60 PMC13900 b0/ac/Breast_Cancer_Res_2001_Nov_9_3(1)_61-65.tar.gz Breast Cancer Res. 2001 Nov 9; 3(1):61-65 PMC13901 I just want the first part (the .tar.gz path), always on the pattern (letter or number)(letter or number) / (letter or number)(letter or number)/... and the part starting by 'PMC', always on the pattern PMC(number...) where 'number' means a number between 0 to 9 and a letter means a letter between a to z (both upper and lower case) So, applying the LOAD DATA, and the regex, and inserting the result entries on my sql table, the result table should be: 1 08/e0/Breast_Cancer_Res_2001_Nov_2_3(1)_55-60.tar.gz PMC13900 2 b0/ac/Breast_Cancer_Res_2001_Nov_9_3(1)_61-65.tar.gz PMC13901 What should be the SQL command to do all this?

    Hello, I wish to disable the href links on a UIWebView. First, I want the look of the link to change so the user doesn't think it is clickable. Second, I want the actual link to not be able to be tapped. I do not want to try webView:shouldStartLoadWithRequest:navigationType: since that not change the appearance of my links. I found this answer: Disabling visible links in UIWebView But the above hasn't worked for me.     Hello everyone, This is a beginner question, but it's been frustrating me... I am using C#, by the way. I'd like to make a few classes, each with their own properties and methods. I would also like to have a database to store certain instances of these classes in case I would ever need to look at them again. So, for example... class Polygon { String name; Double perimiter; int numSides; public Double GetArea() { // ... } } class Circle { String name; Double radius; public void PrintName() { // ... } } Say I've got these classes. I also want a database that has the TABLES "Polygon" and "Circle" with the COLUMNS "name" "perimeter" "radius" etc. And I want an easy way to save a class instance into the database, or pull a class instance out of the database. I have previously been using MS Access for my database stuff, which I don't mind using, but I would prefer if nothing other than .NET need to be installed. I've been researching online a bit, but I wanted to get some opinions on here. I have looked at Linq-to-Sql, but it seems you need Sql-Server. Is this true? If so, I'd really rather not use it because I don't want to have to have it installed everywhere. Anway, I'm just fishing for some ideas/insights/suggestions/etc. so please help me out if you can. Say I have the following code: private Bitmap source = new Bitmap (some_stream); Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(100,100); Rectangle newRect = new Rectangle(0, 0, bmp.Width, bmp.Height); Rectangle toZoom= new Rectangle(0, 0, 10, 10); Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); g.DrawImage(source, newRect, toZoom, GraphicsUnit.Pixel); My goal is to zoom-in the 10x10 pixels on the top left corner of the source picture. After I created the graphics object g and called DrawImage: the requested rectangle (toZoom) will be copied to bmp, or will it be displayed on the screen? I am a bit confused, can somebody please clarify?

  • Many tables for many users?

    I am new to web programming, so excuse the ignorance... ;-) I have a web application that in many ways can be considered to be a multi-tenant environment. By this I mean that each user of the application gets their own 'custom' environment, with absolutely no interaction between those users. So far I have built the web application as a 'single user' environment. In other words, I haven't actually done anything to support multi-users, but only worked on the functionality I want from the app. Here is my problem... What's the best way to build a multi-user environment: All users point to the same 'core' backend. In other words, I build the logic to separate users via appropriate SQL queries (eg. select * from table where user='123' and attribute='456'). Each user points to a unique tablespace, which is built separately as they join the system. In this case I would simply generate ALL the relevant SQL tables per user, with some sort of suffix for the user. (eg. now a query would look like 'select * from table_ where attribute ='456'). In short, it's a difference between "select * from table where USER=" and "select * from table_USER".

  • What do I do about a Java program that spawned two instaces of itself?

    I have a java JAR file that is triggered by a SQL server job. It's been running successfully for months. The process pulls in a structured flat file to a staging database then pushes that data into an XML file. However yesterday the process was triggered twice at the same time. I can tell from a log file that gets created, it looks like the process ran twice simultaneously. This caused a lot of issues and the XML file that it kicked out was malformed and contained duplicate nodes etc. My question is, is this a known issue with Java JVM's spawning multiple instances of itself? Or should I be looking at sql server as the culprit? I'm looking into 'socket locking' or file locking to prevent multiple instances in the future. This is the first instance of this issue that I've ever heard of. More info: The job is scheduled to run every minute. The job triggers a .bat file that contains the java.exe - jar filename.jar The java program runs, scans a directory for a file and then executes a loop to process if the file if it finds one. After it processes the file it runs another loop that kicks out XML messages. I can provide code samples if that would help. Thank you, Kevin

    I'm dealing with a database structure that can be defined as "illogical". It has about 100 different schema's with all different table structures per schema. Only one common factor is a "Version" table in each schema containing about 4 fields. (Thus, there are about 100 Version tables in the database.) There's also another table (view, actually) containing a list of all the schema's in the database that have a version table. I need a stored procedure that walks through all the schema's and selects all data from the Version table, adding the schema name as a fifth field to the result. Basically, this stored procedure is to return a list of all version records per schema. My idea: first walk through the schema list to create one new SQL statements that will JOIN all the schema.version tables into one SQL statement. Then I return the result of that query. How to do this? Or does anyone have a better suggestion? (No, redesigning the structure is NOT an option.)

    Hi everybody. I made a custom helper extending the system string_helper.php. I placed it in my /application/helpers folder, called MY_string_helper.php as required, unit-tested its functions. Now, when I try to call one of its functions from a model, it does not work. The functions in the default string helper work, instead. It looks like my extension is not loaded for some reasons. Yet I want to go a step further and be able to know if L2, or L3 executed the most. here it is obvious that L3 executed the most. yet is there some kind of profiler, emulator that can give me that data for an entire code?

  • Why use Entity Framework over Linq2SQL if...

    To be clear, I am not asking for a side by side comparision which has already been asked Ad Nauseum here on SO. I am also Not asking if Linq2Sql is dead as I don't care. What I am asking is this.... I am building internal apps only for a non-profit organization. I am the only developer on staff. We ALWAYS use SQL Server as our Database backend. I design and build the Databases as well. I have used L2S successfully a couple of times already. Taking all this into consideration can someone offer me a compelling reason that I should use EF instead of L2S? I was at Code Camp this weekend and after an hour long demonstration on EF, all of which I could have done in L2S, I asked this same question. The speakers answer was, "L2S is dead..." Very well then! NOT! (see here) I understand EF is what MS WANTS us to use in the future(see here) and that it offers many more customization options. What I can't figure out is if any of that should, or does, matter for me in this environment. One particular issue we have here is that I inherited the Core App which was built on 4 different SQL Data bases. L2S has great difficulty with this but when I asked the aforementioned speaker if EF would help me in this regard he said "No!"
