  • jQuery wait for ajax call to be over before continuing

    - by Flo
    Hi all, I have a problem with a jQuery ajax call. I need to wait for the call to be finished in order to return a value. However, the script seems to jump ahead and not wait for the call to be over. my function then returns "undefined". I have tried to use the .ajax() method and set the value of async to false, but this would not work either. I could I get my function to return the value that I could through the ajax call? Thank you! Here is the code: function get_rsrce_name(){ jQuery.post( '<?php echo admin_url( 'admin-ajax.php' ); ?>', { action :'my_action', option_rsrce : 'option_rsrce' }, function( data ) { output = data.option_name; }, "json" ); return output; }

  • Create web application with ajax from the begining or add ajax later?

    - by klew
    I'm working on my first Ruby on Rails aplication and it's quite big (at least for me ;) - database has about 25 tables). I'm still learning Ruby and Rails and I never wrote anything in Javascript nor Ajax. Should I add Ajax to my application from the begining? Or maybe it will be better to add it latter? Or in the other words: is it (relatively) easy to add ajax to existing web application?

  • symfony2.4 ajax call update or set session issues

    - by user3797283

  • Handling a Long Running jsp request on the server using Ajax and threads

    - by John Blue
    I am trying to implement a solution for a long running process on the server where it is taking about 10 min to process a pdf generation request. The browser bored/timesout at the 5 mins. I was thinking to deal with this using a Ajax and threads. I am using regular javascript for ajax. But I am stuck with it. I have reached till the point where it sends the request to the servlet and the servlet starts the thread.Please see the below code public class HelloServlet extends javax.servlet.http.HttpServlet implements javax.servlet.Servlet { protected void doGet(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { } protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException { System.out.println("POST request!!"); LongProcess longProcess = new LongProcess(); longProcess.setDaemon(true); longProcess.start(); request.getSession().setAttribute("longProcess", longProcess); request.getRequestDispatcher("index.jsp").forward(request, response); } } class LongProcess extends Thread { public void run() { System.out.println("Thread Started!!"); while (progress < 10) { try { sleep(2000); } catch (InterruptedException ignore) {} progress++; } } } Here is my AJax call <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html><head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"> <title>My Title</title> <script language="JavaScript" > function getXMLObject() //XML OBJECT { var xmlHttp = false; xmlHttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); //For Mozilla, Opera Browsers return xmlHttp; // Mandatory Statement returning the ajax object created } var xmlhttp = new getXMLObject(); //xmlhttp holds the ajax object function ajaxFunction() { xmlhttp.open("GET","HelloServlet" ,true); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = handleServerResponse; xmlhttp.setRequestHeader('Content-Type', 'application/x-www-form-urlencoded'); xmlhttp.send(null); } function handleServerResponse() { if (xmlhttp.readyState == 4) { if(xmlhttp.status == 200) { document.forms[0].myDiv.value = xmlhttp.responseText; setTimeout(ajaxFunction(), 2000); } else { alert("Error during AJAX call. Please try again"); } } } function openPDF() { document.forms[0].method = "POST"; document.forms[0].action = "HelloServlet"; document.forms[0].submit(); } function stopAjax(){ clearInterval(intervalID); } </script> </head> <body><form name="myForm"> <table><tr><td> <INPUT TYPE="BUTTON" NAME="Download" VALUE="Download Queue ( PDF )" onclick="openPDF();"> </td></tr> <tr><td> Current status: <div id="myDiv"></div>% </td></tr></table> </form></body></html> But I dont know how to proceed further like how will the thread communicate the browser that the process has complete and how should the ajax call me made and check the status of the request. Please let me know if I am missing some pieces. Any suggestion if helpful.

  • Running javascript in AJAX loaded DIV

    - by WiseDonkey
    I have page loading, via AJAX a PHP page into a div. In turn, this loaded page has it's own javascript and AJAX loaded div. Reason is to allow user to select data alter data within loaded data. I'm trying to do this without the help of JSON or such to communicate between JS and PHP. I'm guessing the parent calling page has already loaded the javascript, and the AJAX loaded content can't access that? (I've tried running the JS into the AJAX loaded content as well) If so, is there anyway to access that?

  • Calling ASP.NET web service function via GET method with jQuery

    - by the_V
    Hi, I'm trying to call web service function via GET method using jQuery, but having a problem. This is a web service code: [WebService(Namespace = "http://something.com/samples")] [ScriptService] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] public class TestWebService : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod] public string Test2() { string result = null; try { result = "{'result':'success', 'datetime':'" + DateTime.Now.ToString() + "'"; } catch (Exception ex) { result = "Something wrong happened"; } return result; } } That's the way I call the function: $.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "http://localhost/testwebsite/TestWebService.asmx/Test2", data: "{}", contentType: "application/json", dataType: "json", error: function (xhr, status, error) { alert(xhr.responseText); }, success: function (msg) { alert('Call was successful!'); } }); Method is called successfully, but result string gets covered by XML tags, like this: <string> {'result':'success', 'datetime':'4/26/2010 12:11:18 PM' </string> And I get an error because of this (error handler is called). Does anybody know what can be done about this?

  • Should i use TabContainer for multiple pages?

    - by Tim
    I'm considering if it is a good idea to use an ASP.Net TabContainer-Control in the way that every TabPanel contains content of a different page. For example: Next i want to implement in my application is the masterdata management. Normally i would create one aspx page for every masterdata-table (f.e. Customer - MD_Customer.aspx). Then i would add a link into my Menu to this page. Now i'm thinking of creating one aspx page for all(Masterdata.aspx) with a Tabcontainer and an UpdatePanel for every type of Masterdata. The link it the menu could have an additional MDType as URL-Parameter. My main concerns are related to performance(one "page" for every TabPanel currently means 7 "pages" in one) and maintainability because of increasing complexity. Is it a good approach or a bad idea? Thanks

    - by user1277467
    i try to send my datas to php with ajax but there's strange mistake. this is my ajax script, function deleteData2() { var artistIds = new Array(); $(".p16 input:checked").each(function(){ artistIds.push($(this).attr('id')); }); $.post('/json/crewonly/deleteDataAjax2', { json: JSON.stringify({'artistIds': artistIds}) }, function(response){ alert(response); }); } i think this works correctly but in php side, i face 500 internal server error(500). public function deleteDataAjax2() { $json = $_POST['json']; $data = json_decode($json); $artistIds = $data['artistIds']; $this->sendJSONResponse($artistIds); } Above code is my php.   • Loading jQuery gallery after the Ajax call

    - by TiiMoo
    I am trying to put a jQuery gallery after the Ajax call. On my main site, I create a div which wrap the main content (e.g site_content). When users click on one of the hyperlink on the main page, the "site_content" will get updated and display other content which is saved at other HTML file and I am using AJAX to avoid the whole page refresh. However I having a problem of running the JavaScript/jQuery gallery because the JavaScript won't work after the AJAX call. I understand that because the browser does not know there will be some functions to call after the content (from the other HTML file) is successfully displayed. I tried to use the jQuery getScript method but it is still not working. Could anyone give me some ideas how can I run the javaScript/jQuery gallery after the AJAX call? Thanks

  • ajax not working in codeigniter

    - by user1800797
    I'm trying to send a post request using the ajax jquery function and return some data into a window asynchronously. Here's what I have so far. It doesn't seem to be working. in the view: $.ajax({ url: '/dashboard/presskits/media/get_video_link/', type: 'POST', dataType: 'json', data: { encoded_link : encoded_link }, cache: false, success: function(output_string){ // $('#edit_video_info').append(output_string); alert(output_string.url_data); } // End of success function of ajax form }); // End of ajax call }); in the controller: public function get_video_link() { $temp_url = $this->input->post('encoded_link'); $output_string = json_encode(array('url_data' => $temp_url)); return $output_string; }

  • Using AJAX to POST data to PHP database, then refresh

    - by cb74656
    Currently I have a button: <ul> <li><button onclick="display('1')">1</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('2')">2</button></li> <li><button onclick="display('3')">3</button></li> </ul> That when pressed, calls a javascript function, and displays PHP based on which button is pressed using AJAX. I figured this out all on my own. The AJAX gets a PHP file with a postgres query that outputs a table of data to a div. Now I want to be able to add, via form, new data and have it refresh (without reloading the page, yannknow?). I've tried a couple of things, and have hit roadblocks every time. My initial idea was to have the form submit the data using a javascript function and AJAX, then call my "display()" function after the query to reload the content. I just can't figure it out using GoogleFu. Based on my current idea, I'd like help with the following: How do I pass the form data to a javascript function. How do I use POST to pass that data to PHP using AJAX? I'm super new to javascript and AJAX. I've looked into jquery as it seems like that's the way to go, but I can't figure it out. If there's a better way to do this, I'm open to suggestions. Please forgive any misuse of nomenclature. EDIT: Once I solve this problem..., I'll have all the tools needed to finish the project preliminarily.

  • Unable to get anything except 403 from a .Net 4.5 website

Installed Framework 3.5 (Server Features) Installed Framework 4.5 RC (MS Download) executed C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319>aspnet_regiis.exe -i (I'd use -iru on existing servers but this is a clean build). Published via File System (SMB share) Converted the folder into an application using the .Net 4.0 Integrated App Pool Stopped/restarted everything. Browsing to localhost/TestApp results in a 403.14 (Directory browsing forbidden) What step have I missed out? The site in question is MVC4 and targets the 4.5 RC framework

  • Traditional ASP.NET application in subdirectory of an MVC application

    - by David
    Windows Server 2003, IIS6. We're trying to deploy a non-MVC ASP.NET web application as a subdirectory of an MVC application. However the ASP.NET application in the subdirectory is failing with the message "Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web.Mvc, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." which is bizarre because it's not an MVC application.

  • Would you re-design completely under .Net?

    - by dboarman
    A very extensive application began as an Access-based system (for database storage). Forms were written in VB5 and/or VB6. As .Net became a fixture in the development community, certain modules have been rewritten. This seems very awkward and potentially costly just to maintain because of the cross-technologies and extra work to keep the two technologies happy with each other. Of course, the application uses a mix of ODBC OleDb and MySql. Would you think spending the time and resources to completely re-develop the application under .Net would be more cost effective? In an effort to develop a more stable application, wouldn't it make sense to use .Net? Or continue chasing Access bugs, adding new features in .Net (which may or may not create new bugs between .Net and Access), and rewriting old Access modules into .Net modules under time constraints that prevent proper design and development? Update The application uses OleDb and MySql - I corrected my previous statement. Also, to lend further support to rewriting: I have since found out that when the "porting" to .Net began, the VBA/VB6 code that existed was basically translated to the .Net equivalent. From my understanding, nothing was done to improve performance, or take advantage of new libraries or technologies. In my opinion, this creates a very fragile and unstable application. With every new update, this becomes more and more visible. As a help desk technician, I have noticed an increase in problems reported. The customers using the software have noticed an increase in problems and are commenting on it.

  • Third-party open-source projects in .NET and Ruby and NIH syndrome

    - by Anton Gogolev
    The title might seem to be inflammatory, but it's here to catch your eye after all. I'm a professional .NET developer, but I try to follow other platforms as well. With Ruby being all hyped up (mostly due to Rails, I guess) I cannot help but compare the situation in open-source projects in Ruby and .NET. What I personally find interesting is that .NET developers are for the most part severely suffering from the NIH syndrome and are very hesitant to use someone else's code in pretty much any shape or form. Comparing it with Ruby, I see a striking difference. Folks out there have gems literally for every little piece of functionality imaginable. New projects are popping out left and right and generally are heartily welcomed. On the .NET side we have CodePlex which I personally find to be a place where abandoned projects grow old and eventually get abandoned. Now, there certainly are several well-known and maintained projects, but the number of those pales in comparison with that of Ruby. Granted, NIH on the .NET devs part comes mostly from the fact that there are very few quality .NET projects out there, let alone projects that solve their specific needs, but even if there is such a project, it's often frowned upon and is reinvented in-house. So my question is multi-fold: Do you find my observations anywhere near being correct? If so, what are your thoughts on quality and quantitiy of OSS projects in .NET? Again, if you do agree with my thoughts on "NIH in .NET", what do you think is causing it? And finally, is it Ruby's feature set & community standpoint (dynamic language, strong focus on testing) that allows for such easy integration of third-party code?

  • WebCenter .NET Accelerator - Microsoft SharePoint Data via WSRP

    - by john.brunswick
    Platforms in the enterprise will never be homogeneous. As much as any vendor would enjoy having their single development or application technology be exclusively adopted by customers, too much legacy, time, education, innovation and vertical business needs exist to make using a single platform practical. JAVA and .NET are the two industry application platform heavyweights and more often than not, business users are leveraging various systems in their day to day activities that incorporate applications developed on top of both platforms. BEA Systems acquired Plumtree Software to complete their "liquid" view of data, stressing that regardless of a particular source system heterogeneous data could interoperate at not only through layers that allowed for data aggregation, but also at the "glass" or UI layer. The technical components that allowed the integration at the glass thrive today at Oracle, helping WebCenter to provide a rich composite application framework. Oracle Ensemble and the Oracle .NET Application Accelerator allow WebCenter to consume and interact with the UI layers provided by .NET applications and a series of other technologies. The beauty of the .NET accelerator is that it can consume any .NET application and act as a Web Services for Remote Portlets (WSRP) producer. I recently had a chance to leverage the .NET accelerator to expose a ASP .NET 2.0 (C#) application in the WebCenter UI (pictured above) and wanted to share a few tips to help others get started with similar integrations. I was using two virtual machines for the exercise - one with Windows Server 2003, running SharePoint and the other running WebCenter Spaces 11g. For my sample application data I ended up using SharePoint 2007 lists and calendars (MOSS 2007) to supply results using a .NET API for SharePoint.

  • for an ajax heavy web application which would be better SOAP or REST?

    - by coder
    I'm building an ajax heavy application (client-side strictly html/css/js) which will be getting all the data and using server business logic via webservices. I know REST seems to be the hot topic but I can't find any good arguments. The main argument seems to be its "light-weight". My impression so far is that wsdl/soap based services are more expressive and allow for more a more complex transfer of data. It appears that soap would be more useful in the application I'm building where the only code consuming the services will be the js downloaded in the client browser. REST on the other hand seems to have a smaller entry barrier and so can be more useful for services like twitter in allowing other developers to consume these services easily. Also, REST seems to Te better suited for simple data transfers. So in summary SOAP is useful for complex data transfer and REST is useful in simple data transfer. I'm currently under the impression that using SOAP would be best due to the complexity of the messages but perhaps there's other factors. What are your thoughts on the pros/cons of soap/rest for a heavy ajax web app?

  • CustomValidatation control that fire on multiple control events

    - by George
    I am trying to create a UserControl that is a composite control for entering Dates. It involves 2 drop down controls (one for month and one for day) and a text box for year. It also has a CustomValidation control that I would like the user of the UserControl to be able to set the ClientValidationFunction property and have it triggered whenever the value in any of the 3 date part controls changes. To hook up each of the 3 controls to the validation control, I use teh AJAX ValidatorHookupControlID method. If I hard code the following code directly in my aspx page that houses the usercontrol, my Client Validation Function is successfulluy called when any of the 3 date part control values are changed: <script type="text/javascript"> //<![CDATA[ debugger; alert('hooking up'); ValidatorHookupControlID("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_txtYear", document.all("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_CustomValidator1")); ValidatorHookupControlID("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_ddlDate", document.all("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_CustomValidator1")); ValidatorHookupControlID("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_ddlMonth", document.all("ctl00_phPageContent_dtmPassportExpirationDate_CustomValidator1")); //]]> However, I would like my usercontrol to emit this Javascript, so I added the following Code. Public Property ClientValidationFunction() As String Get Return CustomValidator1.ClientValidationFunction End Get Set(ByVal value As String) CustomValidator1.ClientValidationFunction = value End Set End Property Public Property EnableClientScript() As Boolean Get Return CustomValidator1.EnableClientScript End Get Set(ByVal value As Boolean) CustomValidator1.EnableClientScript = value End Set End Property Protected Sub Page_PreRender(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.PreRender If Me.ClientValidationFunction.Trim <> "" AndAlso Me.EnableClientScript Then RegisterValidationScript() End If End Sub Private Sub RegisterValidationScript() Dim Key As String = Me.ClientID & "_ClientValidate" If Not Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(Key) Then Page.ClientScript.RegisterClientScriptBlock(GetType(String), Key, GetJavascript, True) End If End Sub Private Function GetJavascript() As String Dim Out As String = "" Const Quote As String = Chr(34) Out &= "debugger;" & vbCrLf Out &= "ValidatorHookupControlID(" & Quote & txtYear.ClientID & Quote & ", document.all(" & Quote & CustomValidator1.ClientID & Quote & "));" & vbCrLf Out &= "ValidatorHookupControlID(" & Quote & ddlDate.ClientID & Quote & ", document.all(" & Quote & CustomValidator1.ClientID & Quote & "));" & vbCrLf Out &= "ValidatorHookupControlID(" & Quote & ddlMonth.ClientID & Quote & ", document.all(" & Quote & CustomValidator1.ClientID & Quote & "));" & vbCrLf Return Out End Function Unfortunately, when the ValidatorHookupControlID method is called, the second parameter (the one that locates the validation control) always evaluates to null and the method fails. ValidatorHookupControlID("ctl00_phPageContent_DateSelector21_txtYear", document.all("ctl00_phPageContent_DateSelector21_CustomValidator1")); Can you tell me how to correct this error?
