  • multipart file-upload post request from java

    - by Martin
    I'm trying to make a program that uploads a image to a webserver that accepts multipart file-uploads. More specificly i want to make a http POST request to http://iqs.me that sends a file in the variable "pic". I've made a lot of tries but i don't know if i've even been close. The hardest part seems to be to get a HttpURLConnection to make a request of the type POST. The response i get looks like it makes a GET. (And i want to do this without any third party libs) UPDATE: non-working code goes here (no errors but doesn't seem to do a POST): HttpURLConnection conn = null; BufferedReader br = null; DataOutputStream dos = null; DataInputStream inStream = null; InputStream is = null; OutputStream os = null; boolean ret = false; String StrMessage = ""; String exsistingFileName = "myScreenShot.png"; String lineEnd = "\r\n"; String twoHyphens = "--"; String boundary = "*****"; int bytesRead, bytesAvailable, bufferSize; byte[] buffer; int maxBufferSize = 1*1024*1024; String responseFromServer = ""; String urlString = "http://iqs.local.com/index.php"; try{ FileInputStream fileInputStream = new FileInputStream( new File(exsistingFileName) ); URL url = new URL(urlString); conn = (HttpURLConnection) url.openConnection(); conn.setDoInput(true); conn.setDoOutput(true); conn.setRequestMethod("POST"); conn.setUseCaches(false); conn.setRequestProperty("Connection", "Keep-Alive"); conn.setRequestProperty("Content-Type", "multipart/form-data;boundary="+boundary); dos = new DataOutputStream( conn.getOutputStream() ); dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + lineEnd); dos.writeBytes("Content-Disposition: form-data; name=\"pic\";" + " filename=\"" + exsistingFileName +"\"" + lineEnd); dos.writeBytes(lineEnd); bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available(); bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize); buffer = new byte[bufferSize]; bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize); while (bytesRead > 0){ dos.write(buffer, 0, bufferSize); bytesAvailable = fileInputStream.available(); bufferSize = Math.min(bytesAvailable, maxBufferSize); bytesRead = fileInputStream.read(buffer, 0, bufferSize); } dos.writeBytes(lineEnd); dos.writeBytes(twoHyphens + boundary + twoHyphens + lineEnd); fileInputStream.close(); dos.flush(); dos.close(); }catch (MalformedURLException ex){ System.out.println("Error:"+ex); }catch (IOException ioe){ System.out.println("Error:"+ioe); } try{ inStream = new DataInputStream ( conn.getInputStream() ); String str; while (( str = inStream.readLine()) != null){ System.out.println(str); } inStream.close(); }catch (IOException ioex){ System.out.println("Error: "+ioex); }

  • log-back and thirdparty writing to stdout. How to stop them getting interleaved.

    - by David Roussel
    First some background. I have a batch-type java process run from a DOS batch script. All the java logging goes to stdout, and the batch script redirects the stdout to a file. (This is good for me because I can ECHO from the script and it gets into the log file, so I can see all the java JVM command line args, which is great for debugging.) I may not I use slf4j API, and for the backend I used to use log4j, but recently switched to logback-classic. Although all my application code uses slf4j, I have a third party library that does it's own logging (not using a standard API) which also gets written to stdout. The problem is that sometimes log lines get mixed up and don't cleanly appear on separate lines. Here is an example of some messed up output: 2010-05-28 18:00:44.783 [thread-1 ] INFO CreditCorrelationElementBuilderImpl - Bump parameters exist for scenario, now attempting bumping. [indexDisplayName=STANDARD_S1_v300] 2010-05-28 18:01:43.517 [thread-1 ] INFO CreditCorrelationElementBuilderImpl - Found adjusted point in data, now applying bump. So logback must be doing something different. The problem seems to be that although PrintStream.write(byte buf[], int off, int len) is synchronized, however I can see in ch.qos.logback.core.joran.spi.ConsoleTarget that System.out.write(int b) is the only write method called. So inbetween logback outputting each byte, the thirdparty library is managing to write a whole string to the stdout. (Not only is this cause me a problem, but it must also be a little inefficient?) Is there any other fix to this interleaving problem than patching the code to ConsoleTarget so it implments the other write methods? Any nice work arounds. Or should I just file a bug report? Here is my logback.xml: <configuration> <appender name="STDOUT" class="ch.qos.logback.core.ConsoleAppender"> <encoder> <pattern>%d{yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss.SSS} [%-16thread] %-5level %-35.35logger{30} - %msg%n</pattern> </encoder> </appender> <root level="DEBUG"> <appender-ref ref="STDOUT" /> </root> </configuration> I'm using logback 0.9.20 with java 1.6.0_07.

  • Slider Position

    I had used this code for to create a slider. It's working fine. I want to place the slider next to my label control. Like this (Slidder : Slidder Bar) How to do that? <div> <tr> <td class="aln-rht"> <asp:Label ID="Literal4" runat="server" Text="Slidder :" Font-Bold="true" /> </td> <td> <%=Html.DropDownList("Scale", null, "--Select Scale--", new { id = "speed1" , Style = "display:none"})%> </td> </tr> </div> <script type="text/javascript"> $(function () { var abc = $('select#speed1').selectToUISlider().next(); fixToolTipColor(); }); function fixToolTipColor() { $('.ui-tooltip-pointer-down-inner').each(function () { var bWidth = $('.ui-tooltip-pointer-down-inner').css('borderTopWidth'); var bColor = $(this).parents('.ui-slider-tooltip').css('backgroundColor') $(this).css('border-top', bWidth + ' Solid ' + bColor); }); } </script> The ui.slider.extras.css, selectToUISlider.JQuery.js and ui.slider.js files I had used This is JQuery-ui-1.7.1.custom.css, which i am using... .ui-slider { position: relative; text-align: left; } .ui-slider .ui-slider-handle { position: absolute; z-index: 2; width: 1.2em; height: 1.2em; cursor: default; border-color: Maroon; background-color: Olive} .ui-slider .ui-slider-range { position: absolute; z-index: 1; font-size: .7em; display: block; border: 0; } .ui-slider-horizontal { height: .8em; border-color: Olive;} .ui-slider-horizontal .ui-slider-handle { top: -.3em; margin-left: -.6em; } .ui-slider-horizontal .ui-slider-range { top: 0; height: 100%; } .ui-slider-horizontal .ui-slider-range-min { left: 0; } .ui-slider-horizontal .ui-slider-range-max { right: 0; } .ui-slider-vertical { width: .8em; height: 100px; border-color: Olive; } .ui-slider-vertical .ui-slider-handle { left: -.3em; margin-left: 0; margin-bottom: -.6em; } .ui-slider-vertical .ui-slider-range { left: 0; width: 100%; } .ui-slider-vertical .ui-slider-range-min { bottom: 0; } .ui-slider-vertical .ui-slider-range-max { top: 0; }/* Tabs

  • Hover/Fadeto/Toggle Multiple Class Changing

    - by Slick Willis
    So my problem is rather simple and complex at the same time. I am trying to create links that fade in when you mouseover them and fade out when you mouseout of them. At the same time that you are going over them I would like a pic to slide from the left. This is the easy part, I have every thing working. The image fades and another image slides. I did this by using a hover, fadeto, and toggle("slide"). I would like to do this in a table format with multiple images being able to be scrolled over and sliding images out. The problem is that I am calling my sliding image to a class and when I hover over the letters both images slide out. Does anybody have a solution for this? I posted the code that I used below: <html> <head> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/jquery/jquery-1.4.2.min.js'></script> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/jquery/jquery-custom-181/jquery-ui-1.8.1.custom.min.js'></script> <style type="text/css"> .text-slide { display: none; margin: 0px; width: 167px; height: 50px; } </style> <script> $(document).ready(function(){ $(".letterbox-fade").fadeTo(1,0.25); $(".letterbox-fade").hover(function () { $(this).stop().fadeTo(250,1); $(".text-slide").toggle("slide", {}, 1000); }, function() { $(this).stop().fadeTo(250,0.25); $(".text-slide").toggle("slide", {}, 1000); }); }); </script> </head> <body style="background-color: #181818"> <table> <tr> <td><div class="letterbox-fade"><img src="http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/sidebar/icons/A-Letterbox-Selected.png" /></div></td> <td><div class="text-slide"><img src="http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/sidebar/icons/TEST.png" /></div></td> </tr> <tr> <td><div class="letterbox-fade"><img src="http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/sidebar/icons/B-Letterbox-Selected.png" /></div></td> <td><div class="text-slide"><img src="http://accidentalwords.squarespace.com/storage/sidebar/icons/TEST.png" /></div></td> </tr> </table> </body> </html>

  • Roguelike FOV problem

    I am working on a college compsci project and I would like some help with a field of view algorithm. I works mostly, but in some situations the algorithm sees through walls and hilights walls the player should not be able to see. void cMap::los(int x0, int y0, int radius) { //Does line of sight from any particular tile for(int x = 0; x < m_Height; x++) { for(int y = 0; y < m_Width; y++) { getTile(x,y)->setVisible(false); } } double xdif = 0; double ydif = 0; bool visible = false; float dist = 0; for (int x = MAX(x0 - radius,0); x < MIN(x0 + radius, m_Height); x++) { //Loops through x values within view radius for (int y = MAX(y0 - radius,0); y < MIN(y0 + radius, m_Width); y++) { //Loops through y values within view radius xdif = pow( (double) x - x0, 2); ydif = pow( (double) y - y0, 2); dist = (float) sqrt(xdif + ydif); //Gets the distance between the two points if (dist <= radius) { //If the tile is within view distance, visible = line(x0, y0, x, y); //check if it can be seen. if (visible) { //If it can be seen, getTile(x,y)->setVisible(true); //Mark that tile as viewable } } } } } bool cMap::line(int x0,int y0,int x1,int y1) { bool steep = abs(y1-y0) > abs(x1-x0); if (steep) { swap(x0, y0); swap(x1, y1); } if (x0 > x1) { swap(x0,x1); swap(y0,y1); } int deltax = x1-x0; int deltay = abs(y1-y0); int error = deltax/2; int ystep; int y = y0; if (y0 < y1) ystep = 1; else ystep = -1; for (int x = x0; x < x1; x++) { if ( steep && getTile(y,x)->isBlocked()) { getTile(y,x)->setVisible(true); getTile(y,x)->setDiscovered(true); return false; } else if (!steep && getTile(x,y)->isBlocked()) { getTile(x,y)->setVisible(true); getTile(x,y)->setDiscovered(true); return false; } error -= deltay; if (error < 0) { y = y + ystep; error = error + deltax; } } return true; } If anyone could help me make the first blocked tiles visible but stops the rest, I would appreciate it. thanks, Manderin87

  • can't implement jquery jScrollPane to replace browser's scrollbars

    - by Zack
    I am trying to replace browser's scrollbars with jScrollPane (jQuery), it won't work. Here are two attempts to implement it: a basic attempt, and an attempt to imitate the full page demo for jScrollPane. I've been trying everything I could think of to figure out what didn't work, but couldn't. here is my code: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> <html> <head> <title></title> <!-- styles needed by jScrollPane --> <link type="text/css" href="style/jquery.jscrollpane.css" rel="stylesheet" media="all" /> <style type="text/css" id="page-css"> /* Styles specific to this particular page */ html { overflow: auto; } #full-page-container { overflow: auto; } .scroll-pane { width: 100%; height: 200px; overflow: auto; } .horizontal-only { height: auto; max-height: 200px; } </style> <!-- latest jQuery direct from google's CDN --> <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.7.1/jquery.min.js"></script> <!-- the mousewheel plugin --> <script type="text/javascript" src="script/jquery.mousewheel.js"></script> <!-- the jScrollPane script --> <script type="text/javascript" src="script/jquery.jscrollpane.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" id="sourcecode"> $(function () { var win = $(window); // Full body scroll var isResizing = false; win.bind( 'resize', function () { if (!isResizing) { isResizing = true; var container = $('#full-page-container'); // Temporarily make the container tiny so it doesn't influence the // calculation of the size of the document container.css( { 'width': 1, 'height': 1 } ); // Now make it the size of the window... container.css( { 'width': win.width(), 'height': win.height() } ); isResizing = false; container.jScrollPane( { 'showArrows': true } ); } } ).trigger('resize'); // Workaround for known Opera issue which breaks demo (see // http://jscrollpane.kelvinluck.com/known_issues.html#opera-scrollbar ) $('body').css('overflow', 'hidden'); // IE calculates the width incorrectly first time round (it // doesn't count the space used by the native scrollbar) so // we re-trigger if necessary. if ($('#full-page-container').width() != win.width()) { win.trigger('resize'); } }); </script> </head> <body> <div id="full-page-container"> This is the most basic implementation of jScrollPane I could create, if I am not wrong this has all it should take, yet it doesn't work. a little lorem ipsum to make the scrollbars show up: [here come's lot's of lorem ipsum text in the actual page...] </div> </body> </html> The other option is the same, with a link to demo.css and demo.js.

  • How do I get a button to show on mouseover using jQuery?

    - by sharataka
    I am trying to get a button to appear over an image when there is a mouseover event over the image. I have multiple images on the screen that I would like to have the same functionality. I'm having trouble getting this to work as the button is always present. Any advice on how to get it to work? • (SQL) Selecting from a database based on multiple pairs of pairs

    - by Owen Allen
    The problem i've encountered is attempting to select rows from a database where 2 columns in that row align to specific pairs of data. IE selecting rows from data where id = 1 AND type = 'news'. Obviously, if it was 1 simple pair it would be easy, but the issue is we are selecting rows based on 100s of pair of data. I feel as if there must be some way to do this query without looping through the pairs and querying each individually. I'm hoping some SQL stackers can provide guidance. Here's a full code break down: Lets imagine that I have the following dataset where history_id is the primary key. I simplified the structure a bit regarding the dates for ease of reading. table: history history_id id type user_id date 1 1 news 1 5/1 2 1 news 1 5/1 3 1 photo 1 5/2 4 3 news 1 5/3 5 4 news 1 5/3 6 1 news 1 5/4 7 2 photo 1 5/4 8 2 photo 1 5/5 If the user wants to select rows from the database based on a date range we would take a subset of that data. SELECT history_id, id, type, user_id, date FROM history WHERE date BETWEEN '5/3' AND '5/5' Which returns the following dataset history_id id type user_id date 4 3 news 1 5/3 5 4 news 1 5/3 6 1 news 1 5/4 7 2 photo 1 5/4 8 2 photo 1 5/5 Now, using that subset of data I need to determine how many of those entries represent the first entry in the database for each type,id pairing. IE is row 4 the first time in the database that id: 3, type: news appears. So I use a with() min() query. In real code the two lists are programmatically generated from the result sets of our previous query, here I spelled them out for ease of reading. WITH previous AS ( SELECT history_id, id, type FROM history WHERE id IN (1,2,3,4) AND type IN ('news','photo') ) SELECT min(history_id) as history_id, id, type FROM previous GROUP BY id, type Which returns the following data set. history_id id type user_id date 1 1 news 1 5/1 2 1 news 1 5/1 3 1 photo 1 5/2 4 3 news 1 5/3 5 4 news 1 5/3 6 1 news 1 5/4 7 2 photo 1 5/4 8 2 photo 1 5/5 You'll notice it's the entire original dataset, because we are matching id and type individually in lists, rather than as a collective pairs. The result I desire is, but I can't figure out the SQL to get this result. history_id id type user_id date 1 1 news 1 5/1 4 3 news 1 5/3 5 4 news 1 5/3 7 2 photo 1 5/4 Obviously, I could go the route of looping through each pair and querying the database to determine it's first result, but that seems an inefficient solution. I figured one of the SQL gurus on this site might be able to spread some wisdom. In case I'm approaching this situation incorrectly, the gist of the whole routine is that the database stores all creations and edits in the same table. I need to track each users behavior and determine how many entries in the history table are edits or creations over a specific date range. Therefore I select all type:id pairs from the date range based on a user_id, and then for each pairing I determine if the user is responsible for the first that occurs in the database. If first, then creation else edit. Any assistance would be awesome.

  • Create Views for object properties in model in MVC 3 application?

    - by Anders Svensson
    I have an Asp.Net MVC 3 application with a database "Consultants", accessed by EF. Now, the Consultant table in the db has a one-to-many relationship to several other tables for CV type information (work experience, etc). So a user should be able to fill in their name etc once, but should be able to add a number of "work experiences", and so on. But these foreign key tables are complex objects in the model, and when creating the Create View I only get the simple properties as editor fields. How do I go about designing the View or Views so that the complex objects can be filled in as well? I picture a View in my mind where the simple properties are simple fields, and then some sort of control where you can click "add work experience", and as many as needed would be added. But how would I do that and still utilize the model binding? In fact, I don't know how to go about it at all. (BTW, Program and Language stand for things like software experience in general, and natural language competence, not programming languages, in case you're wondering about the relationships there). Any ideas greatly appreciated! Here's the Create View created by the add View command by default: @{ ViewBag.Title = "Create"; } <h2>Create</h2> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> <script src="@Url.Content("~/Scripts/jquery.validate.unobtrusive.min.js")" type="text/javascript"></script> @using (Html.BeginForm()) { @Html.ValidationSummary(true) <fieldset> <legend>Consultant</legend> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.FirstName) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.FirstName) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.FirstName) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.LastName) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.LastName) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.LastName) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.UserName) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.UserName) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.UserName) </div> <div class="editor-label"> @Html.LabelFor(model => model.Description) </div> <div class="editor-field"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.Description) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Description) </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Create" /> </p> </fieldset> } <div> @Html.ActionLink("Back to List", "Index") </div> And here's the EF database diagram:

  • C# : Console.Read() does not get the "right" input

    - by Daemonfire3002nd
    Hi there, I have the following code: The actual problem is the "non-quoted" code. I want to get the player amount (max = 4), but when I ask via Console.Read() and I enter any Int from 1 to 4 I get as value: 48 + Console.Read(). They only thing how I can get the "real" input is using Console.ReadLine(), but this does not give me an Integer, no it returns a string, and actually do not know how to convert String (Numbers) to Integers in C#, because I am new, and because I only found ToString() and not ToNumber. using System; using System.Collections.Generic; using System.Linq; using System.Text; namespace eve_calc_tool { class Program { int players; int units; int active_units; int inactive_units; int finished_units; int lastDiceNumber = 0; bool game_state; public static void Main(string[] args) { int count_game = 0; //Console.Title = "Mensch ärger dich nicht"; //Console.WriteLine("\tNeues Spiel wird"); //Console.WriteLine("\t...geladen"); //System.Threading.Thread.Sleep(5000); //Console.Clear(); //Console.WriteLine("Neues Spiel wird gestartet, bitte haben sie etwas Geduld"); //Console.Title = "Spiel " + count_game.ToString(); //Console.Clear(); //string prevText = "Anzahl der Spieler: "; //Console.WriteLine(prevText); string read = Console.ReadLine(); /*Program game = new Program(); game.players = read; game.setPlayers(game.players); if (game.players > 0 && 5 > game.players) { game.firstRound(); }*/ string readagain = read; Console.ReadLine(); } /* bool setPlayers(int amount) { players = amount; if (players > 0) { return true; } else { return false; } } bool createGame() { inactive_units = units = getPlayers() * 4; active_units = 0; finished_units = 0; game_state = true; if (game_state == true) { return true; } else { return false; } } int getPlayers() { return players; } private static readonly Random random = new Random(); private static readonly object syncLock = new object(); public static int RandomNumber(int min, int max) { lock (syncLock) { // synchronize return random.Next(min, max); } } int rollDice() { lastDiceNumber = RandomNumber(1,6); return lastDiceNumber; } int firstRound() { int[] results = new int[getPlayers()]; for (int i = 0; i < getPlayers(); i++) { results[i] = rollDice(); } Array.Sort(results); return results[3]; } */ } }

  • Synchronous communication using NSOperationQueue

    - by chip_munks
    I am new to Objective C programming. I have created two threads called add and display using the NSInvocationOperation and added it on to the NSOperationQueue. I make the display thread to run first and then run the add thread. The display thread after printing the "Welcome to display" has to wait for the results to print from the add method. So i have set the waitUntilFinished method. Both the Operations are on the same queue. If i use waitUntilFinished for operations on the same queue there may be a situation for deadlock to happen(from apples developer documentation). Is it so? To wait for particular time interval there is a method called waitUntilDate: But if i need to like this wait(min(100,dmax)); let dmax = 20; How to do i wait for these conditions? It would be much helpful if anyone can explain with an example. • How to prevent DIVs from sliding over each other

    - by Haghpanah
    I’m going to use DIV-based layout instead of table-based to reduce amount of markups and speed up page loading, however I’ve found it too much tricky as I’m not CSS guru. I use following CSS class to simulate rows of a table containing one column for label and one for textbox. .FormItem { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 604px; min-height: 36px; } .ItemLabel { float: left; width: 120px; padding: 3px 1px 1px 1px; text-align: right; } .ItemTextBox { float: right; width: 480px; padding: 1px 1px 1px 1px; text-align: left; } , <div class="FormItem"> <div class="ItemLabel"> <asp:Label ID="lblName" runat="server" Text="Name :"></asp:Label> </div> <div class="ItemTextBox"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <p><span>User Name</span></p> </div> </div> <div class="FormItem"> <div class="ItemLabel"> <asp:Label ID="lblComments" runat="server" Text="Comments :"></asp:Label> </div> <div class="ItemTextBox"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtComments" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <p><span>(optional)Comments</span></p> </div> </div> These styles work fine if the height of ItemData DIVs are less than or equal to FormItem DIVs min-height. If ItemData DIVs height gets more than FormItem height then ItemText DIVs start sliding over FormItem DIVs to and ItemText and ItemData are no longer aligned. For example the following markups… <div class="FormItem"> <div class="ItemLabel"> <asp:Label ID="lblName" runat="server" Text="Name :"></asp:Label> </div> <div class="ItemTextBox"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtName" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <p><span>User Name</span></p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> </div> </div> <div class="FormLabel"> <div class="ItemText"> <asp:Label ID="lblComments" runat="server" Text="Comments :"></asp:Label> </div> <div class="ItemTextBox"> <asp:TextBox ID="txtComments" runat="server"></asp:TextBox> <p><span>(optional)Comments</span></p> </div> </div> I've tried several CSS attributes such as; position, float, clear… but I can not correct the problem. I’ll be appreciated for any help.

  • HTML5 Form Validation

    - by Stephen.Walther
    The latest versions of Google Chrome (16+), Mozilla Firefox (8+), and Internet Explorer (10+) all support HTML5 client-side validation. It is time to take HTML5 validation seriously. The purpose of the blog post is to describe how you can take advantage of HTML5 client-side validation regardless of the type of application that you are building. You learn how to use the HTML5 validation attributes, how to perform custom validation using the JavaScript validation constraint API, and how to simulate HTML5 validation on older browsers by taking advantage of a jQuery plugin. Finally, we discuss the security issues related to using client-side validation. Using Client-Side Validation Attributes The HTML5 specification discusses several attributes which you can use with INPUT elements to perform client-side validation including the required, pattern, min, max, step, and maxlength attributes. For example, you use the required attribute to require a user to enter a value for an INPUT element. The following form demonstrates how you can make the firstName and lastName form fields required: <!DOCTYPE html> <html > <head> <title>Required Demo</title> </head> <body> <form> <label> First Name: <input required title="First Name is Required!" /> </label> <label> Last Name: <input required title="Last Name is Required!" /> </label> <button>Register</button> </form> </body> </html> If you attempt to submit this form without entering a value for firstName or lastName then you get the validation error message: Notice that the value of the title attribute is used to display the validation error message “First Name is Required!”. The title attribute does not work this way with the current version of Firefox. If you want to display a custom validation error message with Firefox then you need to include an x-moz-errormessage attribute like this: <input required title="First Name is Required!" x-moz-errormessage="First Name is Required!" /> The pattern attribute enables you to validate the value of an INPUT element against a regular expression. For example, the following form includes a social security number field which includes a pattern attribute: <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Pattern</title> </head> <body> <form> <label> Social Security Number: <input required pattern="^d{3}-d{2}-d{4}$" title="###-##-####" /> </label> <button>Register</button> </form> </body> </html> The regular expression in the form above requires the social security number to match the pattern ###-##-####: Notice that the input field includes both a pattern and a required validation attribute. If you don’t enter a value then the regular expression is never triggered. You need to include the required attribute to force a user to enter a value and cause the value to be validated against the regular expression. Custom Validation You can take advantage of the HTML5 constraint validation API to perform custom validation. You can perform any custom validation that you need. The only requirement is that you write a JavaScript function. For example, when booking a hotel room, you might want to validate that the Arrival Date is in the future instead of the past: <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>Constraint Validation API</title> </head> <body> <form> <label> Arrival Date: <input id="arrivalDate" type="date" required /> </label> <button>Submit Reservation</button> </form> <script type="text/javascript"> var arrivalDate = document.getElementById("arrivalDate"); arrivalDate.addEventListener("input", function() { var value = new Date(arrivalDate.value); if (value < new Date()) { arrivalDate.setCustomValidity("Arrival date must be after now!"); } else { arrivalDate.setCustomValidity(""); } }); </script> </body> </html> The form above contains an input field named arrivalDate. Entering a value into the arrivalDate field triggers the input event. The JavaScript code adds an event listener for the input event and checks whether the date entered is greater than the current date. If validation fails then the validation error message “Arrival date must be after now!” is assigned to the arrivalDate input field by calling the setCustomValidity() method of the validation constraint API. Otherwise, the validation error message is cleared by calling setCustomValidity() with an empty string. HTML5 Validation and Older Browsers But what about older browsers? For example, what about Apple Safari and versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer older than Internet Explorer 10? What the world really needs is a jQuery plugin which provides backwards compatibility for the HTML5 validation attributes. If a browser supports the HTML5 validation attributes then the plugin would do nothing. Otherwise, the plugin would add support for the attributes. Unfortunately, as far as I know, this plugin does not exist. I have not been able to find any plugin which supports both the required and pattern attributes for older browsers, but does not get in the way of these attributes in the case of newer browsers. There are several jQuery plugins which provide partial support for the HTML5 validation attributes including: · jQuery Validation — http://docs.jquery.com/Plugins/Validation · html5Form — http://www.matiasmancini.com.ar/jquery-plugin-ajax-form-validation-html5.html · h5Validate — http://ericleads.com/h5validate/ The jQuery Validation plugin – the most popular JavaScript validation library – supports the HTML5 required attribute, but it does not support the HTML5 pattern attribute. Likewise, the html5Form plugin does not support the pattern attribute. The h5Validate plugin provides the best support for the HTML5 validation attributes. The following page illustrates how this plugin supports both the required and pattern attributes: <!DOCTYPE html> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <title>h5Validate</title> <style type="text/css"> .validationError { border: solid 2px red; } .validationValid { border: solid 2px green; } </style> </head> <body> <form id="customerForm"> <label> First Name: <input id="firstName" required /> </label> <label> Social Security Number: <input id="ssn" required pattern="^d{3}-d{2}-d{4}$" title="Expected pattern is ###-##-####" /> </label> <input type="submit" /> </form> <script type="text/javascript" src="Scripts/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="Scripts/jquery.h5validate.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> // Enable h5Validate plugin $("#customerForm").h5Validate({ errorClass: "validationError", validClass: "validationValid" }); // Prevent form submission when errors $("#customerForm").submit(function (evt) { if ($("#customerForm").h5Validate("allValid") === false) { evt.preventDefault(); } }); </script> </body> </html> When an input field fails validation, the validationError CSS class is applied to the field and the field appears with a red border. When an input field passes validation, the validationValid CSS class is applied to the field and the field appears with a green border. From the perspective of HTML5 validation, the h5Validate plugin is the best of the plugins. It adds support for the required and pattern attributes to browsers which do not natively support these attributes such as IE9. However, this plugin does not include everything in my wish list for a perfect HTML5 validation plugin. Here’s my wish list for the perfect back compat HTML5 validation plugin: 1. The plugin would disable itself when used with a browser which natively supports HTML5 validation attributes. The plugin should not be too greedy – it should not handle validation when a browser could do the work itself. 2. The plugin should simulate the same user interface for displaying validation error messages as the user interface displayed by browsers which natively support HTML5 validation. Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer all display validation errors in a popup. The perfect plugin would also display a popup. 3. Finally, the plugin would add support for the setCustomValidity() method and the other methods of the HTML5 validation constraint API. That way, you could implement custom validation in a standards compatible way and you would know that it worked across all browsers both old and new. Security It would be irresponsible of me to end this blog post without mentioning the issue of security. It is important to remember that any client-side validation — including HTML5 validation — can be bypassed. You should use client-side validation with the intention to create a better user experience. Client validation is great for providing a user with immediate feedback when the user is in the process of completing a form. However, client-side validation cannot prevent an evil hacker from submitting unexpected form data to your web server. You should always enforce your validation rules on the server. The only way to ensure that a required field has a value is to verify that the required field has a value on the server. The HTML5 required attribute does not guarantee anything. Summary The goal of this blog post was to describe the support for validation contained in the HTML5 standard. You learned how to use both the required and the pattern attributes in an HTML5 form. We also discussed how you can implement custom validation by taking advantage of the setCustomValidity() method. Finally, I discussed the available jQuery plugins for adding support for the HTM5 validation attributes to older browsers. Unfortunately, I am unaware of any jQuery plugin which provides a perfect solution to the problem of backwards compatibility.

  • Ubuntu 13.04 running really slow and Hanging

    - by CAM
    Up till recently I have been running 13.04 on my laptop very happily. This morning however, I turned on my laptop to find it running really slow. Takes 5 min to load a program and even then the program freezes and I have had 3 system hangs this morning already. The Unity Desktop appears to run ok but programs do not. Things I have tried so far: Checking for Propitiatory graphics drivers - none shown available (I have bumblebee running already). Using the recovery boot options from Grub to repair broken packages. Recent changes - Updated computer, Installed some indicator applets which have worked fine for me before. System Specs: Asus U36s, Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 610M-1GB, Dual boot Win7 & Ubuntu 13.04 I'm a bit of a noob with Ubuntu but am happy enough running stuff in terminal if you will advise me on what to run. I'm just a bit stuck on what do to fix this without a reinstall. Thanks a lot for your help.

  • TOTD #166: Using NoSQL database in your Java EE 6 Applications on GlassFish - MongoDB for now!

    - by arungupta
    The Java EE 6 platform includes Java Persistence API to work with RDBMS. The JPA specification defines a comprehensive API that includes, but not restricted to, how a database table can be mapped to a POJO and vice versa, provides mechanisms how a PersistenceContext can be injected in a @Stateless bean and then be used for performing different operations on the database table and write typesafe queries. There are several well known advantages of RDBMS but the NoSQL movement has gained traction over past couple of years. The NoSQL databases are not intended to be a replacement for the mainstream RDBMS. As Philosophy of NoSQL explains, NoSQL database was designed for casual use where all the features typically provided by an RDBMS are not required. The name "NoSQL" is more of a category of databases that is more known for what it is not rather than what it is. The basic principles of NoSQL database are: No need to have a pre-defined schema and that makes them a schema-less database. Addition of new properties to existing objects is easy and does not require ALTER TABLE. The unstructured data gives flexibility to change the format of data any time without downtime or reduced service levels. Also there are no joins happening on the server because there is no structure and thus no relation between them. Scalability and performance is more important than the entire set of functionality typically provided by an RDBMS. This set of databases provide eventual consistency and/or transactions restricted to single items but more focus on CRUD. Not be restricted to SQL to access the information stored in the backing database. Designed to scale-out (horizontal) instead of scale-up (vertical). This is important knowing that databases, and everything else as well, is moving into the cloud. RBDMS can scale-out using sharding but requires complex management and not for the faint of heart. Unlike RBDMS which require a separate caching tier, most of the NoSQL databases comes with integrated caching. Designed for less management and simpler data models lead to lower administration as well. There are primarily three types of NoSQL databases: Key-Value stores (e.g. Cassandra and Riak) Document databases (MongoDB or CouchDB) Graph databases (Neo4J) You may think NoSQL is panacea but as I mentioned above they are not meant to replace the mainstream databases and here is why: RDBMS have been around for many years, very stable, and functionally rich. This is something CIOs and CTOs can bet their money on without much worry. There is a reason 98% of Fortune 100 companies run Oracle :-) NoSQL is cutting edge, brings excitement to developers, but enterprises are cautious about them. Commercial databases like Oracle are well supported by the backing enterprises in terms of providing support resources on a global scale. There is a full ecosystem built around these commercial databases providing training, performance tuning, architecture guidance, and everything else. NoSQL is fairly new and typically backed by a single company not able to meet the scale of these big enterprises. NoSQL databases are good for CRUDing operations but business intelligence is extremely important for enterprises to stay competitive. RDBMS provide extensive tooling to generate this data but that was not the original intention of NoSQL databases and is lacking in that area. Generating any meaningful information other than CRUDing require extensive programming. Not suited for complex transactions such as banking systems or other highly transactional applications requiring 2-phase commit. SQL cannot be used with NoSQL databases and writing simple queries can be involving. Enough talking, lets take a look at some code. This blog has published multiple blogs on how to access a RDBMS using JPA in a Java EE 6 application. This Tip Of The Day (TOTD) will show you can use MongoDB (a document-oriented database) with a typical 3-tier Java EE 6 application. Lets get started! The complete source code of this project can be downloaded here. Download MongoDB for your platform from here (1.8.2 as of this writing) and start the server as: arun@ArunUbuntu:~/tools/mongodb-linux-x86_64-1.8.2/bin$./mongod./mongod --help for help and startup optionsSun Jun 26 20:41:11 [initandlisten] MongoDB starting : pid=11210port=27017 dbpath=/data/db/ 64-bit Sun Jun 26 20:41:11 [initandlisten] db version v1.8.2, pdfile version4.5Sun Jun 26 20:41:11 [initandlisten] git version:433bbaa14aaba6860da15bd4de8edf600f56501bSun Jun 26 20:41:11 [initandlisten] build sys info: Linuxbs-linux64.10gen.cc 2.6.21.7-2.ec2.v1.2.fc8xen #1 SMP Fri Nov 2017:48:28 EST 2009 x86_64 BOOST_LIB_VERSION=1_41Sun Jun 26 20:41:11 [initandlisten] waiting for connections on port 27017Sun Jun 26 20:41:11 [websvr] web admin interface listening on port 28017 The default directory for the database is /data/db and needs to be created as: sudo mkdir -p /data/db/sudo chown `id -u` /data/db You can specify a different directory using "--dbpath" option. Refer to Quickstart for your specific platform. Using NetBeans, create a Java EE 6 project and make sure to enable CDI and add JavaServer Faces framework. Download MongoDB Java Driver (2.6.3 of this writing) and add it to the project library by selecting "Properties", "LIbraries", "Add Library...", creating a new library by specifying the location of the JAR file, and adding the library to the created project. Edit the generated "index.xhtml" such that it looks like: <h1>Add a new movie</h1><h:form> Name: <h:inputText value="#{movie.name}" size="20"/><br/> Year: <h:inputText value="#{movie.year}" size="6"/><br/> Language: <h:inputText value="#{movie.language}" size="20"/><br/> <h:commandButton actionListener="#{movieSessionBean.createMovie}" action="show" title="Add" value="submit"/></h:form> This page has a simple HTML form with three text boxes and a submit button. The text boxes take name, year, and language of a movie and the submit button invokes the "createMovie" method of "movieSessionBean" and then render "show.xhtml". Create "show.xhtml" ("New" -> "Other..." -> "Other" -> "XHTML File") such that it looks like: <head> <title><h1>List of movies</h1></title> </head> <body> <h:form> <h:dataTable value="#{movieSessionBean.movies}" var="m" > <h:column><f:facet name="header">Name</f:facet>#{m.name}</h:column> <h:column><f:facet name="header">Year</f:facet>#{m.year}</h:column> <h:column><f:facet name="header">Language</f:facet>#{m.language}</h:column> </h:dataTable> </h:form> This page shows the name, year, and language of all movies stored in the database so far. The list of movies is returned by "movieSessionBean.movies" property. Now create the "Movie" class such that it looks like: import com.mongodb.BasicDBObject;import com.mongodb.BasicDBObject;import com.mongodb.DBObject;import javax.enterprise.inject.Model;import javax.validation.constraints.Size;/** * @author arun */@Modelpublic class Movie { @Size(min=1, max=20) private String name; @Size(min=1, max=20) private String language; private int year; // getters and setters for "name", "year", "language" public BasicDBObject toDBObject() { BasicDBObject doc = new BasicDBObject(); doc.put("name", name); doc.put("year", year); doc.put("language", language); return doc; } public static Movie fromDBObject(DBObject doc) { Movie m = new Movie(); m.name = (String)doc.get("name"); m.year = (int)doc.get("year"); m.language = (String)doc.get("language"); return m; } @Override public String toString() { return name + ", " + year + ", " + language; }} Other than the usual boilerplate code, the key methods here are "toDBObject" and "fromDBObject". These methods provide a conversion from "Movie" -> "DBObject" and vice versa. The "DBObject" is a MongoDB class that comes as part of the mongo-2.6.3.jar file and which we added to our project earlier.  The complete javadoc for 2.6.3 can be seen here. Notice, this class also uses Bean Validation constraints and will be honored by the JSF layer. Finally, create "MovieSessionBean" stateless EJB with all the business logic such that it looks like: package org.glassfish.samples;import com.mongodb.BasicDBObject;import com.mongodb.DB;import com.mongodb.DBCollection;import com.mongodb.DBCursor;import com.mongodb.DBObject;import com.mongodb.Mongo;import java.net.UnknownHostException;import java.util.ArrayList;import java.util.List;import javax.annotation.PostConstruct;import javax.ejb.Stateless;import javax.inject.Inject;import javax.inject.Named;/** * @author arun */@Stateless@Namedpublic class MovieSessionBean { @Inject Movie movie; DBCollection movieColl; @PostConstruct private void initDB() throws UnknownHostException { Mongo m = new Mongo(); DB db = m.getDB("movieDB"); movieColl = db.getCollection("movies"); if (movieColl == null) { movieColl = db.createCollection("movies", null); } } public void createMovie() { BasicDBObject doc = movie.toDBObject(); movieColl.insert(doc); } public List<Movie> getMovies() { List<Movie> movies = new ArrayList(); DBCursor cur = movieColl.find(); System.out.println("getMovies: Found " + cur.size() + " movie(s)"); for (DBObject dbo : cur.toArray()) { movies.add(Movie.fromDBObject(dbo)); } return movies; }} The database is initialized in @PostConstruct. • Unity - Mecanim & Rigidbody on Third Person Controller - Gravity bug?

    - by Celtc
    I'm working on a third person controller which uses physX to interact with the other objects (using the Rigidbody component) and Mecanim to animate the character. All the animations used are baked to Y, and the movement on this axis is controlled by the gravity applied by the rigidbody component. The configuration of the falling animation: And the character components configuration: Since the falling animation doesn't have root motion on XZ, I move the character on XZ by code. Like this: // On the Ground if (IsGrounded()) { GroundedMovementMgm(); // Stores the velocity velocityPreFalling = rigidbody.velocity; } // Mid-Air else { // Continue the pre falling velocity rigidbody.velocity = new Vector3(velocityPreFalling.x, rigidbody.velocity.y, velocityPreFalling.z); } The problem is that when the chracter starts falling and hit against a wall in mid air, it gets stuck to the wall. Here are some pics which explains the problems: Hope someone can help me. Thanks and sory for my bad english! PD.: I was asked for the IsGrounded() function, so I'm adding it: void OnCollisionEnter(Collision collision) { if (!grounded) TrackGrounded(collision); } void OnCollisionStay(Collision collision) { TrackGrounded(collision); } void OnCollisionExit() { grounded = false; } public bool IsGrounded() { return grounded; } private void TrackGrounded(Collision collision) { var maxHeight = capCollider.bounds.min.y + capCollider.radius * .9f; foreach (var contact in collision.contacts) { if (contact.point.y < maxHeight && Vector3.Angle(contact.normal, Vector3.up) < maxSlopeAngle) { grounded = true; break; } } } I'll also add a LINK to download the project if someone wants it.

  • Create nice animation on your ASP.NET Menu control using jQuery

    - by hajan
    In this blog post, I will show how you can apply some nice animation effects on your ASP.NET Menu control. ASP.NET Menu control offers many possibilities, but together with jQuery, you can make very rich, interactive menu accompanied with animations and effects. Lets start with an example: - Create new ASP.NET Web Application and give it a name - Open your Default.aspx page (or any other .aspx page where you will create the menu) - Our page ASPX code is: <form id="form1" runat="server"> <div id="menu">     <asp:Menu ID="Menu1" runat="server" Orientation="Horizontal" RenderingMode="List">                     <Items>             <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Default.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Home.png" Text="Home" Value="Home"  />             <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/About.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Friends.png" Text="About Us" Value="AboutUs" />             <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Products.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Box.png" Text="Products" Value="Products" />             <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Contact.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Chat.png" Text="Contact Us" Value="ContactUs" />         </Items>     </asp:Menu> </div> </form> As you can see, we have ASP.NET Menu with Horizontal orientation and RenderMode=”List”. It has four Menu Items where for each I have specified NavigateUrl, ImageUrl, Text and Value properties. All images are in Images folder in the root directory of this web application. The images I’m using for this demo are from Free Web Icons. - Next, lets create CSS for the LI and A tags (place this code inside head tag) <style type="text/css">     li     {         border:1px solid black;         padding:20px 20px 20px 20px;         width:110px;         background-color:Gray;         color:White;         cursor:pointer;     }     a { color:White; font-family:Tahoma; } </style> This is nothing very important and you can change the style as you want. - Now, lets reference the jQuery core library directly from Microsoft CDN. <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> - And we get to the most interesting part, applying the animations with jQuery Before we move on writing jQuery code, lets see what is the HTML code that our ASP.NET Menu control generates in the client browser.   <ul class="level1">     <li><a class="level1" href="Default.aspx"><img src="Images/Home.png" alt="" title="" class="icon" />Home</a></li>     <li><a class="level1" href="About.aspx"><img src="Images/Friends.png" alt="" title="" class="icon" />About Us</a></li>     <li><a class="level1" href="Products.aspx"><img src="Images/Box.png" alt="" title="" class="icon" />Products</a></li>     <li><a class="level1" href="Contact.aspx"><img src="Images/Chat.png" alt="" title="" class="icon" />Contact Us</a></li> </ul>   So, it generates unordered list which has class level1 and for each item creates li element with an anchor with image + menu text inside it. If we want to access the list element only from our menu (not other list element sin the page), we need to use the following jQuery selector: “ul.level1 li”, which will find all li elements which have parent element ul with class level1. Hence, the jQuery code is:   <script type="text/javascript">     $(function () {         $("ul.level1 li").hover(function () {             $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 0.7, width: "170px" }, "slow");         }, function () {             $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 1, width: "110px" }, "slow");         });     }); </script>   I’m using hover, so that the animation will occur once we go over the menu item. The two different functions are one for the over, the other for the out effect. The following line $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 0.7, width: "170px" }, "slow");     does the real job. So, this will first stop any previous animations (if any) that are in progress and will animate the menu item by giving to it opacity of 0.7 and changing the width to 170px (the default width is 110px as in the defined CSS style for li tag). This happens on mouse over. The second function on mouse out reverts the opacity and width properties to the default ones. The last parameter “slow” is the speed of the animation. The end result is:   The complete ASPX code: <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server">     <title>ASP.NET Menu + jQuery</title>     <style type="text/css">         li         {             border:1px solid black;             padding:20px 20px 20px 20px;             width:110px;             background-color:Gray;             color:White;             cursor:pointer;         }         a { color:White; font-family:Tahoma; }     </style>     <script type="text/javascript" src="http://ajax.aspnetcdn.com/ajax/jQuery/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script>     <script type="text/javascript">         $(function () {             $("ul.level1 li").hover(function () {                 $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 0.7, width: "170px" }, "slow");             }, function () {                 $(this).stop().animate({ opacity: 1, width: "110px" }, "slow");             });         });     </script> </head> <body>     <form id="form1" runat="server">     <div id="menu">         <asp:Menu ID="Menu1" runat="server" Orientation="Horizontal" RenderingMode="List">                         <Items>                 <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Default.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Home.png" Text="Home" Value="Home"  />                 <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/About.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Friends.png" Text="About Us" Value="AboutUs" />                 <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Products.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Box.png" Text="Products" Value="Products" />                 <asp:MenuItem NavigateUrl="~/Contact.aspx" ImageUrl="~/Images/Chat.png" Text="Contact Us" Value="ContactUs" />             </Items>         </asp:Menu>     </div>     </form> </body> </html> Hope this was useful. Regards, Hajan

  • NASA’s can alert you when Space Station is visible from your backyard

    - by Gopinath
    NASA’s International Space Station(ISS) is the third most brightest object visible in the sky after Sun and Moon. If we know exactly when to look up, we will be able to spot Space Station with naked eye and it looks like bright star moving.  On the occasion of 12th anniversary of astronauts living in space station, NASA started a free services dubbed as Spot The Station, that alerts you when Space Station is visible from your backyard. Those who sign up with the free service by providing location details will get an email & text alerts couple of hours in advance so that they can have a glimpse of space station. Here is a sample alert sent to registered users SpotTheStation! Time: Wed Apr 25 7:45 PM, Visible: 4 min, Max Height: 66 degrees, Appears: WSW, Disappears NE. The space station is typically visible right at early morning or evenings when moon is the only one brightest star visible in the sky. The service is available world wide and almost 90 percent of the population on earth would be able to see clearly without using any fancy equipment. Follow the link spotthestation.nasa.gov to register for alerts. Flickr cc image: slideshow bob
