• Translating EventAggregators usage of SynchronizationContext to VB.Net

  Working with a fairly large VB.Net back office winforms application. 1 million+ LOC. Big ball of mud, 90% of all code is in Forms & other UI controls. Slowly introducing better architecture as time & recources allows, We've been using ideas from the EventAggrgator by Jeremy Miller. http://codebetter.com/blogs/jeremy.miller/archive/2008/01/11/build-your-own-cab-extensible-pub-sub-event-aggregator-with-generics.aspx Initially I stripped out the usage of SynchronizationContext. Now I'm trying to introduce it back, and I'm struggling with the translation of the lamda stuff from c# to vb.net. Specifically this line of c# _context.Send(delegate { receiver.Handle(subject); }, null); This is the vb.net I have so far: _context.Send(New SendOrPostCallback(AddressOf listener.Handle(message)), Nothing) The error I'm getting is listener.Handle(message) <-- AddressOf operand must be the name of a method. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but after staring at this for 2 days, I'm lost.

I am trying to retrieve a list of clients from the server (server using fluentNHibernate).   Hello, I'm trying to select and de-select dates on a C# Web Calendar control. The problem I have is that I can select or deselect dates except when there is only a single date selected. Clicking on it does not trigger the selection changed event, so Ineed to do something on the dayrender event but I'm not sure what or how. Any ideas? • Using two versions of the same assembly (system.web.mvc) at the same time

  I'm using a content management system whose admin interface uses MVC 1.0. I would like to build the public parts of the site using MVC 2. If I just reference System.Web.Mvc version 2 in my project the admin mode doesn't work as the reference to System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage created by the views in the admin interface is ambiguous: The type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage' is ambiguous: it could come from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\2.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll' or from assembly 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_MSIL\System.Web.Mvc\1.0.0.0__31bf3856ad364e35\System.Web.Mvc.dll'. Please specify the assembly explicitly in the type name. I could easily work around this by using binding redirects to specify that MVC 2 should always be used. Unfortunately the content management systems admin mode isn't compatible with MVC 2. I'm not exactly sure why, but I start getting a bunch of null reference exceptions in some of it's actions when I try it and the developers of the CMS have confirmed that it isn't compatible with MVC 2 (yet). The admin interface which is accessed through domain.com/admin is not physically located in webroot/admin but in the program files folder on the server and domain.com/admin is instead routed there using a virtual path provider. Therefor, putting a separate web.config file in the admin folder to specify a different version of System.Web.Mvc for that part of the site isn't an option as that won't fly when using shared hosting. Can anyone see any solution to this problem? Perhaps it's possible to specify that for some assemblies a different version of a referenced assembly should be used?

• HTML Agility Pack Screen Scraping XPATH isn't returning data

  I'm attempting to write a screen scraper for Digikey that will allow our company to keep accurate track of pricing, part availability and product replacements when a part is discontinued. There seems to be a discrepancy between the XPATH that I'm seeing in Chrome Devtools as well as Firebug on Firefox and what my C# program is seeing. But to fill required fields i have to again Update. "ID" field is compulsary at the time of Update. • Problems with Prism hosted in a WinForm ElementHost

  I am having problems with hosting a WPF prism app in an ElementHost control and am desparate for help. The PRISM app runs fine in silverlight and in a standalone WPF. The main Shell seems to setup fine in the elementHost on a WinForm however other views only load with the “RegisterViewWithRegion” and not the “Add,Activate” procedure. I need “Add,Activate” for scoping. However I beleive the problem is that I am loading my shell twice … not on purpose. I cannot find a way to call the bootsrapper and set the elementHot without calling “Resolve” twice. Here is the code for my WinForm and my bootstrapper. Again everything works when using "RegisterViewWithRegion". • Linq to SQL and concurrency with Rob Conery repository pattern

  I have implemented a DAL using Rob Conery's spin on the repository pattern (from the MVC Storefront project) where I map database objects to domain objects using Linq and use Linq to SQL to actually get the data. This is all working wonderfully giving me the full control over the shape of my domain objects that I want, but I have hit a problem with concurrency that I thought I'd ask about here. I have concurrency working but the solution feels like it might be wrong (just one of those gitchy feelings). The basic pattern is: private MyDataContext _datacontext private Table _tasks; public Repository(MyDataContext datacontext) { _dataContext = datacontext; } public void GetTasks() { _tasks = from t in _dataContext.Tasks; return from t in _tasks select new Domain.Task { Name = t.Name, Id = t.TaskId, Description = t.Description }; } public void SaveTask(Domain.Task task) { Task dbTask = null; // Logic for new tasks omitted... dbTask = (from t in _tasks where t.TaskId == task.Id select t).SingleOrDefault(); dbTask.Description = task.Description, dbTask.Name = task.Name, _dataContext.SubmitChanges(); } So with that implementation I've lost concurrency tracking because of the mapping to the domain task. I get it back by storing the private Table which is my datacontext list of tasks at the time of getting the original task. I then update the tasks from this stored Table and save what I've updated This is working - I get change conflict exceptions raised when there are concurrency violations, just as I want. However, it just screams to me that I've missed a trick. Is there a better way of doing this? I've looked at the .Attach method on the datacontext but that appears to require storing the original version in a similar way to what I'm already doing. I also know that I could avoid all this by doing away with the domain objects and letting the Linq to SQL generated objects all the way up my stack - but I dislike that just as much as I dislike the way I'm handling concurrency.

  I'm using Microsoft's DSOFramer control to allow me to embed an Excel file in my dialog so the user can choose his sheet, then select his range of cells; it's used with an import button on my dialog. The problem is that when I call the DSOFramer's OPEN function, if I have Excel open in another window, it closes the Excel document (but leaves Excel running). If the document it tries to close has unsaved data, I get a dialog boxclosing Excel doc in another window. If unsaved data in file, dsoframer fails to open with a messagebox: "Attempt to access invalid address". I built the source, and stepped through, and its making a call in its CDsoDocObject::CreateFromFile function, calling BindToObject on an object of class IMoniker. The HR is 0x8001010a "The message filter indicated that the application is busy". On that failure, it tries to InstantiateDocObjectServer by classid of CLSID Microsoft Excel Worksheet... this fails with an HRESULT of 0x80040154 "Class not registered". The InstantiateDocObjectServer just calls CoCreateInstance on the classid, first with CLSCTX_LOCAL_SERVER, then (if that fails) with CLSCTX_INPROC_SERVER. I know DSOFramer is a popular sample project for embedding Office apps in various dialogs and forms. I'm hoping someone else has had this problem and might have some insight on how I can solve this. I really don't want it to close any other open Excel documents, and I really don't want it to error-out if it can't close the document due to unsaved data. Update 1: I've tried changing the classid that's passed in to "Excel.Application" (I know that class will resolve), but that didn't work. In CDsoDocObject, it tries to open key "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID{00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\DocObject", but fails. I've visually confirmed that the key is not present in my registry; The key is present for the guid, but there's no DocObject subkey. It then produces an error message box: "The associated COM server does not support ActiveX document embedding". I get similar (different key, of course) results when I try to use the Excel.Workbook programid. Update 2: I tried starting a 2nd instance of Excel, hoping that my automation would bind to it (being the most recently invoked) instead of the problem Excel instance, but it didn't seem to do that. Results were the same. My problem seems to have boiled down to this: I'm calling the BindToObject on an object of class IMoniker, and receiving 0x8001010A (RPC_E_SERVERCALL_RETRYLATER) "The message filter indicated that the application is busy". I've tried playing with the flags passed to the BindToObject (via the SetBindOptions), but nothing seems to make any difference. Update 3: It first tries to bind using an IMoniker class. If that fails, it calls CoCreateInstance for the clsid as a "fallback" method. This may work for other MS Office objects, but when it's Excel, the class is for the Worksheet. I modified the sample to CoCreateInstance _Application, then got the workbooks, then called the Workbooks::Open for the target file, which returns a Worksheet object. I then returned that pointer and merged back with the original sample code path. All working now.

• CultureInfo on a IValueConverter implementation

  When a ValueConverter is used as part of a binding, one of the parameters to the Convert function is a System.Globalization.CultureInfo object. Can anyone tell me where this culture object gets its info from? I have some code that formats a date based on that culture. When i access my silverlight control which is hosted on my machine, it formats the date correctly (using the d/MM/yyyy format, which is set as the short date format on my machine). When i access the same control hosted on a different server (from my client machine), the date is being formatted as MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss - which is totally wrong. Coincidentally the regional settings on the server are set to the same as my client machine. • How to list column headers of a SQL Server table using sp_help perhaps?

  Hi, I have a few tables with 70-80 columns in them. I would like to populate them with somewhat random data, unless I will not be able to do so due to key violation, etc. The first step would be simply to get the list of all headers. There seem to be two ways: A) Run select * from table_of_interest; in MSFT SQL Server Management Studio 2008. Now, right-click the result and click "Copy With headers". However, I get zero rows back, and when I try to copy nothing + headers, I get: TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio ------------------------------ Value cannot be null. Parameter name: data (System.Windows.Forms) ------------------------------ BUTTONS: OK ------------------------------ This looks like a bug ... anyhow ... there is another way. B) I can run sp_help table_of_interest;. However, I end up getting too much back. I get 7 different tables back but I am only interested in the second one. The columns of the second table are: Column_name | Type | Computed | Length | Prec | Scale | Nullable | TrimTrailingBlanks | FixedLenNullInSource | Collation I might be interested in just a Column_name and Type, but maybe other columns. So ... since sp_help probably runs a bunch of queries ... how do I get under the hood? How can I run the second query AND filter down the number of columns that I am interested in? Many Thanks!

  I have written an XMLHttpRequest which runs fine but returns an empty responseText. I am getting a log error (in Safari debug) of Error dispatching: getProperties which I cannot seem to find reference to. I have run the code in Safari and Firefox both locally and on a remote server. The URL when put into a browser will return the string and give a status code of 200. I wrote similar code to the same URL in a Mac Widget which runs fine, but the same code in a browser never returns a result.

• Add Service Reference is generating Message Contracts

  OK, this has been haunting me for a while, can't find much on Google and I am starting to lose hope so I am reverting to the SO community. When I import a given service using "Add service Reference" on Visual Studio 2008 (SP1) all the Request/Response messages are being unnecessarily wrapped into Message Contracts (named as -- "operationName" + "Request"/"Response" + "1" at the end). The code generator says: // CODEGEN: Generating message contract since the operation XXX is neither RPC nor document wrapped. The guys who are generating the wsdl from a Java service say they are specifying DOCUMENT-LITERAL/WRAPPED. Any help/pointer/clue would be highly appreciated. Update: this is a sample of my wsdl for one of the operations that look suspicious. In the meanwhile I am hoping it might ring a bell - any help highly appreciated.

The XML is loaded/parsed in a different thread, which has its own NSManagedObjectContext. I have a simple integer to keep track of the entities the application creates compared to the insertedObjects property in the NSManagedObjectContext before saving, and when I get the error, these numbers do not match, insertedObjects in the NSManagedObjectContext is missing about 10 entities.   I'm writing a utility to extract the names of header files from JSPs. I have no problem reading the JSPs line by line and finding the lines I need. I am having a problem extracting the specific text needed using regex. After looking at many similar questions I'm hitting a brick wall. An example of the String I'll be matching from within is: <jsp:include page="<%=Pages.getString(\"MY_HEADER\")%>" flush="true"></jsp:include> All I need is MY_HEADER for this example. Any time I have this tag: <%=Pages.getString I need what comes between this: <%=Pages.getString(\" and this: )%> Here is what I have currently (which is not working, I might add) : String currentLine; while ((currentLine = fileReader.readLine()) != null) { Pattern pattern = Pattern.compile("<%=Pages\\.getString\\(\\\\\"([^\\\\]*)"); Matcher matcher = pattern.matcher(currentLine); while(matcher.find()) { System.out.println(matcher.group(1).toString()); }} I need to be able to use the Java RegEx API and regex to extract those header names. Any help on this issue is greatly appreciated. Thanks! EDIT: Resolved this issue, thankfully. The tricky part was, after being given the right regex, it had to be taken into account that the String I was feeding to the regex was always going to have two " / " characters ( (/"MY_HEADER"/) ) that needed to be escaped in the pattern.
