    I have the following two models: class Parent < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :child, dependent: :destroy validates :child, presence: true end class Child < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :parent validates :parent, presence: true end I want to create Parent object. If I do the following: Parent.create! or Factory(:parent) Exception raises: ActiveRecord::RecordInvalid: Validation failed: Child can't be blank But I can't create Child object without Parent object for the same reason - I need to create Parent object first in order to pass presence validation. As it appears I have some kind of infinite recursion here. How to solve it?

    I am validating input on a form and attempting to prompt the user of improper input(s) based on the combination of controls used. For example, I have 2 combo boxes and 3 text boxes. The 2 combo boxes must always have a value other than the first (default) value, but one of three, or two of three, or all text boxes can be filled to make the form valid. In one such scenario I have a 6 line if statement to try to make the test easily readable: if ((!String.Equals(ComboBoxA.SelectedValue.ToString(), DEFAULT_COMBO_A_CHOICE.ToString()) && !String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxA.Text) && !String.Equals(ComboBoxB.SelectedValue.ToString(), DEFAULT_COMBO_B_CHOICE.ToString())) || (!String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxB.Text) || !String.IsNullOrEmpty(TextBoxC.Text))) { //Do Some Validation } I have 2 questions: Should this type of if statement be avoided at all cost?   • Design pattern for data entry forms with LINQ2SQL

    I am about to start a new winforms data entry application, it already has the database designed which I am comfortable with. I was going to use LINQ2SQL to access the tables to keep things type safe but am now wondering about design patterns, something I am just getting into. Since LINQ is giving me objects to use should I still create classes in between to hold the validation code and helper methods or should these just go in with the UI? It just seems I will end up with classes sat in between with little code which will cause the UI classes to have code just getting and setting values in the intermediate class and returning from validation to flag errors... Any good reading on this? Should I consider the entity framework (or similar) instead?

    Hi, I have the following JSON object which has a date field in the following format: { "AlertDate": "\/Date(1277334000000+0100)\/", "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } I want to write a regular expression or a function to convert it to a javascript object so that it is in the form: { "AlertDate": "AlertDate":new Date(1277334000000), "Progress": 1, "ReviewPeriod": 12 } The above date format fails validation in the JQuery parseJSON method. I would like to convert the 1277334000000+0100 into the correct number of milliseconds to create the correct date when eval is called after validation.     Hi, I have a simple aspx page with one grid view. When deployed on server, and accessed through that machine, it works fine. However, when connected through load balancer, we get this error ( when click on any button). The page however refreshes when pressed F5. Validation of viewstate MAC failed. If this application is hosted by a Web Farm or cluster, ensure that <machineKey> configuration specifies the same validationKey and validation algorithm. AutoGenerate cannot be used in a cluster. Any idea what is happening here???

    Hello, I have been using xVal with success for a while but this evening ran into an issue where a field containing a period would not be validated (client or server-side). I am using ASP.NET MVC2 and need to use the period syntax in cases where I am model binding to a list. In the below example I am using a textbox for the sake of simplicity: xVal.AttachValidator(null, { "Fields": [{ "FieldName": "entry[622592].Value", "FieldRules": [{ "RuleName": "Required", "RuleParameters": {}}]}] }, {}) <input type="text" class="text" name="entry[622592].Value"/> If I replace both instances of "entry[622592].Value" to something trivial like "test" then the validation works successfully, but if i leave it this way the validation never appears to fire... Has anyone run into this issue? Thanks in advance!

  • What is the proper way to check the previous value of a field before saving an object? (Using Django

    I have a Django Model with updated_by and an approved_by fields, both are ForeignKey fields to the built-in (auth) User models. I am aware that with updated_by, it's easy enough to simply over-ride the .save() method on the Model, and shove the request.user in that field before saving. However, for approved_by, this field should only ever be filled in when a related field (date_approved) is first filled in. I'm somewhat certain that I can check this logically, and fill in the field if the previous value was empty. What is the proper way to check the previous value of a field before saving an object? I do not anticipate that date_approved will ever be changed or updated, nor should there be any reason to ever update the approved_by entry. UPDATE: Regarding forms/validation, I should have mentioned that none of the fields in question are seen by or editable by users of the site. If I have misunderstood, I'm sorry, but I'm not sure how forms and validation apply to my question.

    Is it possible to validate a radio group (so something is checked off, or chosen) using server-side validation with Perl? If so, how? I already have it for JavaScript, but I want this form to be able to be submitted even without JavaScript enabled. Thus I will need the validation on the server-side. There is no fixed name for the radio group, it can change, however there must be a name, so that @names = $cgi->param() will give all the names. I'm thinking along something that will give me the type, like the type in JavaScript, to determine if it's a radio button in a group.

Shouldn't the Focus() method have brought the focus control into view?

I have read through the page and while I understand the general concepts, I am having some trouble based on how my INSERT statement is currently built. Today, I am using the following: $sql = "INSERT INTO tablename VALUES ('', '$_SESSION['Member1FirstName'], '$_SESSION['Member1LastName'], '$_SESSION['Member1ID'], '$_SESSION['Member2FirstName'], '$_SESSION['Member2LastName'], '$_SESSION['Member2ID'] .... and the list goes on for 20+ members with some other values entered. It seems most people in the examples already have all their data stored in an array. On my site, I accept form inputs, action="" is set to self, php validation takes place and if validation passes, data is stored into SESSION variables on page 2 then redirected to the next page in the process (page 3) (approximately 8-10 pages in the whole process). thanks!

  • Any way to not break on certain errors in Visual Studio 2010?

    I'm working on a VS2010 project where I'm using DataAnnotations on my objects to handle validation. However, this is sort of a pain in the butt while trying to do interactive debugging because it keeps pausing VS.Net on validation errors. Obviously, I want to break on some errors, but not these particular types. Am I out of luck and I just need to turn on and off my Break on All Errors setting? Or is there some way to tell VS to just ignore these when they happen? (these are errors generated via Validator.ValidateProperty calls.) Thanks

    I have created a custom control that inherit the TextBox, in that control i have override validating event and in validating event i have put validation that checks for the empty field. Now when i use that control on my winform and when i click on save button it immediate fires save event.. the validation event of custom control fires and it displays the error message but still it does not stop the save event to fire.... the save button CauseValidation Property is set to true.. i have also put (this.ValidateChildren()) i have also put CancelEventArgs ce.Cancel = true; in Custom Textbox control but neither working to stop the save event to fires.. i only want to fire Save event if Textbox is not empty. validating event fires, shows message for empty field and immediate fires save event.. now if you got an idea then if you have solution then please provide solution..

    My ideal setup would be to take a current clients site, upload a .htaccess with a regex inside, that would match the URI, and if it finds a certain file extension, it would use the same path, but with an altered domain. ie. Normal path: http://www.domain.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://www.domain.com/assets/js/jquery.js .htaccess translated would turn the above into: http://mycdn.other.com/something/images/someimage.jpeg http://mycdn.other.com/assets/js/jquery.js I googled this for hours in a row, no luck. Again, this is for actually making use of Amazon's CloudFront. S3 is already mounted to the website for backups and storing files using s3fs, but this doesn't solve the issue since it's using S3 directly, not using the CloudFront.

    How come the major browsers all bring up a login dialog when an xmlhttprequest does auth wrong or doesn't send it? I mean isn't this poor UI? Now a days it seems like a lot of people try http auth in jQuery, because theoretically it is quite easy - until the user fails to enter the correct data and is presented with the browsers dialog, which gets in their way, and they might have no idea what to do with it or why it's there? I don't know too much about these low level browser specifications but can someone bring this up with the RFC or webkit/gecko developers? jQuery digest auth could be powerful and user friendly if this was fixed. ** It seems like apache could also fix the problem on their side by not sending the header, but whichever one is the most secure way of doing this would be nice.

    I am using bind 9.9.2 as a DNSSEC validating recursive resolver in an Internet DMZ. I want to point to my internal DNS servers as stub zones (ideally) or anything except slave zones (to avoid very large zone transfers). We use a routable ip space for our Internal addressing. Sorry if I am using an IP space that you own in my example, but 167.x.x.x is the first zone I found that fits my issue.   • Linux + IPTables + NAT = some http hosts unreachable.

    Hi. I've set up dead simple NAT: iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -s 192.168.1.0/24 -o ppp0 -j MASQUERADE Everything works almost ok. Almost. The problem I've expirienced is some hosts are not reachable by NAT clients, i.e. there's http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js - I can download it from server, but in case of NAT client download stalls on connection stage. I thought its FFs fault, but wget has the same issue. I didn't find any logs/messages that can shed some light on this situtation. Any ideas what's going on? Maybe some tricky thing in sysclt is causing this? P.S. 3/3 client boxes are expiriencing this issue. This is definitely server trouble.

  • what can be reasons for localhost responding super-slow the first time a page is requested?

    Still learning my server-ways with Apache2.2/MySQL5.2/Coldfusion8 on localhost (running Windows XP) What I notice is every time I request a page for the first time after firing up Coldfusion and Apache, localhost needs forever (1+ minute to respond and send the inital page). After that all seems to run at normal loading time. I'm using require.js to pull in Jquery, Jquery Mobile and two other plugins on first page load, but loading the same page from a real server works normally, so I'm also ruling out this as a probable cause. Since it happens regardless of which page I'm loading first it shoud not be page related, so I'm looking for other clues on why this could happen. Thanks for some thought!
