  • apply style to range of text with javascript in uiwebview

    I am displaying some simple styled text as html in a UIWebView on iPhone. It is basically a series of paragraphs with the occasional strong or emphasized phrase. At runtime I need to apply styles to ranges of text. There are a few similar scenarios, one of which is highlighting search results. If the user has searched for "something" I would like to change the background color behind occurrences of the word, then later restore the original background. Is it possible to apply styles to ranges of text using javascript? A key part of this is also being able to unset the styles. There seem to be two likely paths to follow. One would be modifying some html in Objective-C and passing it through javascript as the new innerHTML of some container. The other would be to use javascript to directly manipulate DOM nodes. I could manipulate html, but that sounds tedious in Objective-C so I would rather manipulate the DOM if that is a reasonable approach. I am not that familiar with javascript and DOM so I do not know if it is a reasonable approach. I wrote some routines to translate between text ranges and node ranges with offsets. So if I start with text range 100-200 and that starts in one paragraph and ends in a third, I can get the text nodes and the offsets within the nodes that represent the given text range. I just need a way to split a text node at an offset in the text. Currently I just apply styles to the paragraphs containing the text range. A few notes: straight javascript please, no external frameworks like jquery. the changes never need to be written to disk. the changes should be undoable or at least removable. the styles to apply already exist in a css file. it needs to work in iPhone 3.0 and forward. all the source files are shipped with the app. please be verbose.     I am trying to create a fairly basic form with in my maincontent. I am sure I am coding things incorrectly and it is driving me crazy. Note my code. I get extremely wide vertical spacing in IE 7 and the bacground color between the field sets does not work correctly. All is good in FF.   • CSS: Size of buttons in Chrome is different than Firefox

    I have the following HTML code: <style type="text/css"> .submitbutton{margin-left:-2px} </style> ... <form> ... <input class=submitbutton type=submit value="Create Listings" /> </form> In Firefox, the input button has more padding than in Chrome. Any ideas why? UPDATE: If you're wondering why I have the negative margin - it's because between the input field and the input button - there is too much space.

    Hi I'm working with a Wordpress template. I have a separate template page for the blog section. On the other pages of the site I have class that works fine and looks like this .post header h2 { display:none; } On the blog page, I add this to the CSS and it works as it should #main .post header h2 { display:block; } However if I try that with other classes like #main .wrapper { background-color:#000000; } Nothing happens.   • IE Print CSS and spanning page breaks

    I've been working on trying to fix an issue with print CSS and IE where things would disappear when printing in landscape mode. It appears the issue is that the element I'm trying to print (a large DIV with content inside it) spans two pages when put into landscape mode. What is happening is when the element spans two pages, the first page is blank, and the second page is printing what would normally be left over from the first page. I think it's related to contained floats: wrapper div floated div1 floated div2 If I set the two nested divs to float: none in the print CSS file, then IE will print them, albeit not in the layout we'd like. Before I spend another hour on this, anyone know what, specifically, is the issue here and if there's a known workaround?

  • IE6/7 CSS Class Overriding

    I have a css file like: #SomeTable.hideAll .hide { display: none; } #SomeTable.showXYZ .show { display: block } When I add the class showCol to a td, the display overrides to block in chrome, FF, and IE8. But in IE6/7, the display stays none like it is not being overridden. Is there something odd you have to do in old IE's to do a css override like this? I suspect it has something to do with it either not being possible, or I just don't understand rules for determining an override.

    Is it possible to have a circular menu or dock using css or jquery.? I have a set of images as the dock items that need to be displayed as a circular dock... however the number of items in the dock are not constant and may vary.... so i cannot tend to use constant values for positioning each item in a pre-defined manner. Ajax loads some images into this particular div and i need to use css or jquery to style this so that they get displayed as circular dock items. Any idea on how this can be implemented..? I would like a browser in-specific implementation, but i also welcome if some one has some solutions specific to few browsers... UPDATE I don't think i exactly want a pie menu... it easily gets messed up as the number of dock items increase. I am looking for a spiral dock. and by spiral i mean that the menu items must be in the following alignment..

  • Chrome vs Safari - CSS the mystery pixel

    I have an issue of the mysterious pixel in CSS. Site in question: http://www.lymphcareri.com/about/ The idea is that under the menu is a line, which gets highlighted upon hover and blends in with the line under the header. However, Safari and Chrome both interpret the CSS different in such a way, that I cannot get those lines to line up in both browsers (no pun intended). It is either on the mark, or off. Chrome shaves off one pixel on the bottom margin of the nav link, making the line appear just above. Any idea why that is?

I have the image appear and the submit button disappear - but nothing happens when I click on the image.     I've been developing Ruby on Rails applications for some time, and have often found help to develop generate the templates of HTML with accompanying CSS. However, I'd like to make an attempt at doing this myself. Initial experiments leave me feeling like my process is really slow. I'm writing all my Rails code in VIM, which, with accompanying aliases to run the test suite, is pretty fast for me. However, the back-and-forth between browser/VIM to see new changes seems cumbersome - I'm guessing finding an editor with an embedded browser that constantly sees new changes is ideal for this (any suggestions?) So far I've experimented with Blueprint, which at the onset seems like it will save me a ton of time. However, what other tools have helped you do the PSD-HTML/CSS conversion as fast as you can?

  • Ensuring Updated CSS/JavaScript on Client Side

    I'm trying to ensure that visitors of my ASP.NET MVC website always have the most-current CSS and Javascript (and not some older cached version). I tried to realize this by generating a seed value when the application domain starts, and automatically append it to the CSS and Javascript URLs (so now instead of /Content/All.js the link is /Content/All.js?549238 etc.). Unfortunately I just found out by debugging via Firebug that this causes now a full download request every time (the new "seeded" response is no longer cached at all, but I only wanted the first check to download the 'updated' version, but then cache again/only check if there is a difference). How can I achieve my goal, is there a better way of doing this? I need the client to always request the newest version, but then cache if no change happened. Edit: This appears to be related to the fact that my page is served over SSL. I asked a follow up question here regarding enabling clientside caching with SSL.

In IE8 the scrollbar appears but doesn't work, and I don't have any other way to move down.
