• Groovlet not working in GWT project, container : embedded Jetty in google plugin

  Hi, I am working on a GWT application which uses GWT-RPC. • My PreferenceActivity does not show up, even though it is in my manifest file

  So I am modifying the Cube live wallpaper example. I have a class that extends PreferenceActivity, and I added the Activity in my manifest file. I keep getting ActivityNotFoundExceptions. • Suggest joomla html editor extension/software

  I've started using Joomla 1.5 recently and am using the TinyMCE online WYSIWYG editor that comes with the package to edit articles. I tend to write direct html and javascript rather than use the WYSIWYG functions, I find that after the first time the changes are applied(page updated) most of your html becomes 4-5 separate big paragraphs. Its very hard to find stuff in there cause the content has no formatting -- eg: <p><span id="psy_ass_span" class="pink_heading">Psychometric Assessment</span></p> <div id="psy_ass_div" class="pink_box"><img class="img_right" src="templates/teamwork.jpg" border="0" /> <p><strong>Emporkommen</strong> uses <strong>Psychometric assessment</strong> as a tool in order to gain insight into a person’s personality and psychological thinking. My question is, do you guys know of good(preferably non-commercial) extensions or other softwares or techniques that can make editing html code in Joomla 1.5 articles easier even after applying changes several times.

  Hi, I've got two tables. Invoice with columns CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID (CustomerID and InvoiceDate make up a composite key) and InvoiceType with InvoiceTypeID and InvoiceTypeName columns. I know I can create my objects like: public class Invoice { public virtual int CustomerID { get; set; } public virtual DateTime InvoiceDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal Value { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceType InvoiceType { get; set; } } public class InvoiceType { public virtual InvoiceTypeID { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeName { get; set; } } So the generated sql would look something like: SELECT CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID FROM Invoice WHERE CustomerID = x AND InvoiceDate = y SELECT InvoiceTypeID, InvoiceTypeName FROM InvoiceType WHERE InvoiceTypeID = z But rather that having two select queries executed to retrieve the data I would rather have one. I would also like to avoid using child object for simple lookup lists. So my object would look something like: public class Invoice { public virtual int CustomerID { get; set; } public virtual DateTime InvoiceDate { get; set; } public virtual decimal Value { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeID { get; set; } public virtual InvoiceTypeName { get; set; } } And my sql would look something like: SELECT CustomerID, InvoiceDate, Value, InvoiceTypeID FROM Invoice INNER JOIN InvoiceType ON Invoice.InvoiceTypeID = InvoiceType.InvoiceTypeID WHERE CustomerID = x AND InvoiceDate = y My question is how do I create the mapping for this? • Reference-type conversion operators: asking for trouble?

  When I compile the following code using g++ class A {}; void foo(A&) {} int main() { foo(A()); return 0; } I get the following error messages: > g++ test.cpp -o test test.cpp: In function ‘int main()’: test.cpp:10: error: invalid initialization of non-const reference of type ‘A&’ from a temporary of type ‘A’ test.cpp:6: error: in passing argument 1 of ‘void foo(A&)’ After some reflection, these errors make plenty of sense to me. A() is just a temporary value, not an assignable location on the stack, so it wouldn't seem to have an address. If it doesn't have an address, then I can't hold a reference to it. Okay, fine. But wait! If I add the following conversion operator to the class A class A { public: operator A&() { return *this; } }; then all is well! My question is whether this even remotely safe. What exactly does this point to when A() is constructed as a temporary value? I am given some confidence by the fact that void foo(const A&) {} can accept temporary values according to g++ and all other compilers I've used. The const keyword can always be cast away, so it would surprise me if there were any actual semantic differences between a const A& parameter and an A& parameter. So I guess that's another way of asking my question: why is a const reference to a temporary value considered safe by the compiler whereas a non-const reference is not?

How do I fix this code so that it is incremented 1500 times?

• Prevent Ninject from calling Initialize multiple times when binding to several interfaces

  Hi We have a concrete singleton service which implements Ninject.IInitializable and 2 interfaces. Problem is that services Initialize-methdod is called 2 times, when only one is desired. We are using .NET 3.5 and Ninject 2.0.0.0. Is there a pattern in Ninject prevent this from happening. Neither of the interfaces implement Ninject.IInitializable. the service class is: public class ConcreteService : IService1, IService2, Ninject.IInitializable { public void Initialize() { // This is called twice! } } And module looks like this: public class ServiceModule : NinjectModule { public override void Load() { this.Singleton<Iservice1, Iservice2, ConcreteService>(); } } where Singleton is an extension method defined like this: public static void Singleton<K, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K { module.Bind<K>().To<T>().InSingletonScope(); } public static void Singleton<K, L, T>(this NinjectModule module) where T : K, L { Singleton<K, T>(module); module.Bind<L>().ToMethod(n => n.Kernel.Get<T>()); } Of course we could add bool initialized-member to ConcreteService and initialize only when it is false, but it seems quite a bit of a hack. And it would require repeating the same logic in every service that implements two or more interfaces. Thanks for all the answers! I learned something from all of them! (I am having a hard time to decide which one mark correct). We ended up creating IActivable interface and extending ninject kernel (it also removed nicely code level dependencies to ninject, allthough attributes still remain).

  How do I go about the [HandleError] filter in asp.net MVC Preview 5? I set the customErrors in my web.config file <customErrors mode="On" defaultRedirect="Error.aspx"> <error statusCode="403" redirect="NoAccess.htm"/> <error statusCode="404" redirect="FileNotFound.htm"/> </customErrors> and put [HandleError] above my Controller Class like this: [HandleError] public class DSWebsiteController: Controller{ [snip] public ActionResult CrashTest() { throw new Exception("Oh Noes!"); } } Then I let my controllers inherit from this class and call CrashTest() on them. Visual studio halts at the error and after pressing f5 to continue, I get rerouted to Error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/sxi.mvc/CrashTest (where sxi is the name of the used controller. Off course the path cannot be found and I get "Server Error in '/' Application." 404. This site was ported from preview 3 to 5. Everything runs (wasn't that much work to port) except the error handling. When I create a complete new project the error handling seems to work. Ideas? --Note-- Since this question has over 3K views now, I thought it would be beneficial to put in what I'm currently (asp.net mvc 1.0) using. In the mvc contrib project there is a brilliant attribute called "RescueAttribute" You should probably check it out too ;)

• Is there a way to get YQL to return HTML?

  I am trying to use YQL to extract a portion of HTML from a series of web pages. The pages themselves have slightly different structure (so a Yahoo Pipes "Fetch Page" with its "Cut content" feature does not work well) but the fragment I am interested in always has the same class attribute. If I have an HTML page like this: <html> <body> <div class="foo"> <p>Wolf</p> <ul> <li>Dog</li> <li>Cat</li> </ul> </div> </body> </html> and use a YQL expression like this: SELECT * FROM html WHERE url="http://example.com/containing-the-fragment-above" AND xpath="//div[@class='foo']" what I get back are the (apparently unordered?) DOM elements, where what I want is the HTML content itself. I've tried SELECT content as well, but that only selects textual content. I want HTML. Is this possible?

• Faster image loading

  I want to display about 5-8 images on my page, one by one, but I would like them to pre-load one and not loading them each time i switch to anohter image. I have seen some examples where they have all images (hidden) on the page something like: <a href=""><img id="img1" src="images/image1.png" class="image" alt="" /></a> <a href=""><img id="img2" src="images/image1.png" class="image" alt="" /></a> <a href=""><img id="img3" src="images/image1.png" class="image" alt="" /></a> And the unhide the current image. And what I have is one image that i change it's src attribute for path for new images from th array. SwitchNextImage: function(){ var theimg=document.getElementById("imgContainer"); this.currentIndex = this.currentIndex+ 1 == this.totalImageCount ? 0 : this.currentIndex + 1; theimg.src=this.slideimages[this.currentIndex].src; } The first method is obviously faster loading. But requies static links. My questions is how can I make my method more faster loading?

  Hi I recently started evaluating ASP.NET MVC. While it is really easy and quick to create Controllers and Views for Models with only primitive properties (like shown in the starter videos from the official page) I didn't find any good way to work with references to complex types. Let's say, I have these Models: public class Customer { public int Id { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } public Address Address { get; set; } public IList<Order> Orders { get; set; } } public class Address { public int Id { get; set; } public string ..... ..... } public class Order { public int Id { get; set; } public Customer Customer { get; set; } public string OrderName { get; set; } ..... } Note that I don't have foreign keys in the models (like it's typical for LINQ to SQL, which is also used in the sample video) but an object reference. How can I handle such references in asp.net mvc? Does someone has some good tips or links to tutorials about this problem? maybe including autobinding with complex types.

Lets say we have a million lines of this. <div class="first"> <div class="second"> <span class="third">Hello World</span> </div> </div> Which would be the fastest way to change the font of Hello World to red? .third { color: red; } div.third { color: red; } div.second div.third { color: red; } div.first div.second div.third { color: red; } Also, what if there was at tag in the middle that had a unique id of "foo". Which one of the CSS methods above would be the fastest. I know why these methods are used etc, im just trying to grasp better the rendering technique of the browsers and i have no idea how to make a test that times it. UPDATE: Nice answer Gumbo. From the looks of it then it would be quicker in a regular site to do the full definition of a tag. Since it finds the parents and narrows the search for every parent found. That could be bad in the sense you'd have a pretty large CSS file though.

• Get data from database without refresh whole page

  Hello everybody. My project is about a school admin I have a page called : createClass.php, where user inserts grade, profile etc. When he press "submit" page called createdClass.php is loading. Inside this page I have all code which insert data into database and also an "if" structure which says : "Class already exists" if in database is another class with same specifications. Also in second page (createdClass.php) i have a small table which shows the place of each student. First time all cells are green (this means that place is free) and if i click one of them appear a popup window which let me to add info about student from that place. If a place is busy the cell will be red (take a look here : http://screencast.com/t/NzM2YzYxNjct). The big problem is that the cell will be red only after refresh the page (the place ask for data from database). If I press refresh appears "class already exists". To test the code i added in a comment all lines which verify and add respectively classroom . I think my problem can be solved with ajax. I'm waiting for an answer. Regards Stefan

This will give us the simple implementation of search request, like "show me all items in group 1". We will have a deal only with CatalogModel.catalog_root_group The problem is - this association does't work. I always get "catalog_root_group" equals to nil Also, i have tried to overcome the using of reference to root group ("catalog_root_group"), but i cannot construct appropriate search request in ruby ... Do you know, how to do it ?

• java serialization problems with different JVMs

  I am having trouble using serialization in Java. I've searched the web for a solution but haven't found an answer yet. The problem is this - I have a Java library (I have the code and I export it to an archive prior to executing the code) which I need to use with two differents JVMs. One JVM is on the server (Ubuntu, running Java(TM) JRE SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)) and the other on Android 2.3.3. I compiled the library in Java 1.6. Now, I am trying to import to the client, an object exported from the server, but I receive this error: java.io.InvalidClassException: [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;; Incompatible class (SUID): [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =-359311387972759020L; but expected [Lweka.classifiers.functions.MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd;: static final long serialVersionUID =1920571045915494592L; I do have an explicit serial version UID declared on the class MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd, like this: protected class NeuralEnd extends NeuralConnection { private static final long serialVersionUID = 7305185603191183338L; } Where NeuralConnection implements the java.io.Serializable interface. If I do a serialver on MultilayerPerceptron$NeuralEnd I receive the serialVersionUID which I declared. So, why have both JVMs changed this value? Can you help me? Thanks, Alberto

• Best way to pass image to server?

  I have an SL3 application that needs to be able to pass an image to the server, and then the server will generate a PDF file with the image in it, and display it to the user. What I already have in place are the following: (1) Code to convert image to byte array (2) Code to generate PDF file with image The main problem that I am running into is the following: In order to bypass the pop-up blocker, which is a requirement for my application, I am using the following code: var button = new NavigationButton(); button.NavigateUri = new Uri("http://localhost:3616/PrintReport.aspx?ReportIndex=11&ActionType=Get&ReportIdentifier=" + reportIdentifier.ToString() + ""); button.TargetName = "_blank"; button.PerformClick(); Initially, I would pass the image to a WCF web service (as a byte array), and then "navigate" to the ASP.NET page that would display the report. However, if I do this, then I can not use my custom HyperlinkButton class, and, certain browsers, including Safari, will block a new window from opening up. Therefore, it appears that the only option is to use the HyperlinkButton class. What I need to be able to do is to somehow pass the image, as a byte array or some other data type, to the server, such that it can temporarily store the image, even if it is in a server variable, and then immediately retrieve it when I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page. If I upload the image to an ASP.NET form and then use the HyperlinkButton class to navigate to the PrintReport page, it doesn't work, as the app navigates to the PrintReport page before the system has finished uploading the image. I can't pass it to a web service, as that would require that I navigate to the PrintReport.aspx page in the callback code of the web method that I would be passing the image to, and the HyperlinkButton will not allow that, based on security rules.   I have a very simple project that compiles, but can't be started on Emulator. • Why isn't my new object being seen? C#

  I am getting ready to take a class at a college on C#. I have been reading up on it a lot and decided to start a fun project. Here is what my project consists of: Main Control Form Configuration Form Arduino Program.cs calls Configuration.cs at start. This is where pin modes for the Arduino are set and where a timer is set. When I set these values, they get sent to MainControl.cs. When I hit the "Save" button in Configuration.cs, a MainControl.cs object is created [[I am correct in that?]] All of those values that were sent by Configuration.cs had corresponding setters that set private static variables in MainControl.cs [[ I don't really know if that is the preferred way, I am most definetly open to any suggestion anyone has]] MainControl.cs uses its default constructor, and this constructor calls a method that creates an arduino object from one of the private variables (serialPort) [[ Using this Arduino class Firmata.NET ]] When the arduino object is created, I know (I guess I do) because the form takes a few seconds to come up (As opposed to not using serial port) My problem is this: I do not understand why nothing can see the object I have been very wordy, I apologize if I wasn't concise. Here is the code: public partial class CMainControl : Form { private static string serialPort; public CMainControl() { InitializeComponent(); createArduino(); updateConfig(); // Change label values to values set in configuration } private void createArduino() { Arduino arduino = new Arduino(serialPort); } In Configuration.cs, when I set the serial port through a combobox, the value is sent to MainControl.cs just fine. • Problem with Unit testing of ASP.NET project (NullReferenceException when running the test)

  Hi, I'm trying to create a bunch of MS visual studio unit tests for my n-tiered web app but for some reason I can't run those tests and I get the following error - "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" What I'm trying to do is testing of my data access layer where I use LINQ data context class to execute a certain function and return a result,however during the debugging process I found out that all the tests fail as soon as they get to the LINQ data context class and it has something to do with the connection string but I cant figure out what is the problem. UPDATE: Finally I've fixed this!!!!:) I dont know why but for some reasons in the app.config file the connection to my database was as follows: AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF So what I did is I just changed the path and instead of |DataDirectory| I put the actual path where my MDF file sits,i.e C:\Users\1\Documents\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\EICWebSystem\EICWebSystem\App_Data\EICDatabase.mdf After I had done that it worked out!But still it's a bit not clear what was the problem...probably incorrect path to the database?My web.config of ASP.NET project contains the |DataDirectory|\EICDatabase.MDF path though..

• Thread implemented as a Singleton

  Hi all, I have a commercial application made with C,C++/Qt on Linux platform. The app collects data from different sensors and displays them on GUI. Each of the protocol for interfacing with sensors is implemented using singleton pattern and threads from Qt QThreads class. All the protocols except one work fine. Each protocol's run function for thread has following structure: void <ProtocolClassName>::run() { while(!mStop) //check whether screen is closed or not { mutex.lock() while(!waitcondition.wait(&mutex,5)) { if(mStop) return; } //Code for receiving and processing incoming data mutex.unlock(); } //end while } Hierarchy of GUI. 1.Login screen. 2. Screen of action. When a user logs in from login screen, we enter the action screen where all data is displayed and all the thread's for different sensors start. They wait on mStop variable in idle time and when data arrives they jump to receiving and processing data. Incoming data for the problem protocol is 117 bytes. In the main GUI threads there are timers which when timeout, grab the running instance of protocol using <ProtocolName>::instance() function Check the update variable of singleton class if its true and display the data. When the data display is done they reset the update variable in singleton class to false. The problematic protocol has the update time of 1 sec, which is also the frame rate of protocol. When I comment out the display function it runs fine. But when display is activated the application hangs consistently after 6-7 hours. I have asked this question on many forums but haven't received any worthwhile suggestions. I Hope that here I will get some help. Also, I have read a lot of literature on Singleton, multithreading, and found that people always discourage the use of singletons especially in C++. But in my application I can think of no other design for implementation. Thanks in advance A Hapless programmer
