  • Getting JAX-WS client work on Weblogic 9.2 with ant

    I've recently had lots of issues trying to deploy a JAX-WS web servcie client on Weblogic 9.2. It turns out there is no straightforward guide on how to achieve this, so I decided to put together this short wiki entry hoping it might be useful for others. Firstly, Weblogic 9.2 does not support web servcies using JAX-WS in general. It comes with old versions of XML-related java libraries that are incompatible with the latest JAX-WS (similar issues occur with Axis2, only Axis1 seems to be working flawlessly with Weblogic 9.x but that's a very old and unsupported library). So, in order to get it working, some hacking is required. This is how I did it (note that we're using ant in our legacy corporate project, you probably should be using maven which should eliminate 50% of those steps below): Download the most recent JAX-WS distribution from https://jax-ws.dev.java.net/ (The exact version I got was JAXWS2.2-20091203.zip) Place the JAX-WS jars with the dependencies in a separate folder like lib/webservices. Create a patternset in ant to reference those jars: Include the patternset in your WAR-related goal. This could look something like: (not the flatten="true" parameter - it's important as Weblogic 9.x is by default not smart enough to access jars located in a different lcoation than WEB-INF/lib inside your WAR file) In case of clashes, Weblogic uses its own jars by default. We want it to use the JAX-WS jars from our application instead. This is achieved by preparing a weblogic-application.xml file and placing it in META-INF folder of the deplotyed EAR file. It should look like this: javax.jws. javax.xml.bind. javax.xml.crypto. javax.xml.registry. javax.xml.rpc. javax.xml.soap. javax.xml.stream. javax.xml.ws. com.sun.xml.api.streaming.* Remember to place that weblogic-application.xml file in your EAR! The ant goal for that may look similar to: <jar destfile="${warfile}" basedir="${wardir}"/> <ear destfile="${earfile}" appxml="resources/${app.name}/application.xml"> <fileset dir="${dist}" includes="${app.name}.war"/> <metainf dir="resources/META-INF"/> </ear> Also you need to tell weblogic to prefer your WEB-INF classes to those in distribution. You do that by placing the following lines in your WEB-INF/weblogic.xml file: true And that's it for the weblogic-related configuration. Now only set up your JAX-WS goal. The one below is going to simply generate the web service stubs and classes based on a locally deployed WSDL file and place them in a folder in your app: Remember about the keep="true" parameter. Without it, wsimport generates the classes and... deletes them, believe it or not! For mocking a web service I suggest using SOAPUI, an open source project. Very easy to deploy, crucial for web servcies intergation testing. We're almost there. The final thing is to write a Java class for testing the web service, try to run it as a standalone app first (or as part of your unit tests) And then try to run the same code from withing Weblogic. It should work. It worked for me. After some 3 days of frustration. And yes, I know I should've put 9 and 10 under a single bullet-point, but the title "10 steps to deploy a JAX-WS web service under Web logic 9.2 using ant" sounds just so much better. Please, edit this post and improve it if you find something missing!

  • ASP Classic Session Variable Not Always Getting Set

    I have a classic ASP site I'm maintaining and recently we wanted to do special rendering actions if the visitor was coming from one specific set of websites. So in the page where those visitors have to come through to get to our site, I put a simple line setting a session variable: <!-- #include virtual="/clsdbAccess.cs"--> <% set db = new dbAccess %> <html> <head> ... <script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"> ... </script> </head> <body> <% Session("CAME_FROM_NEWSPAPER") = "your local newspaper" ... %> ... html stuff ... </body> </html> Then, in all the following pages, whenever I need to put up nav links, menus, etc., that we don't want to show to those visitors, I test for if that session variable is "" or not, then render accordingly. My problem is that it seems to work great for me in development, then I get it out into Production and it works great sometimes, and other times it doesn't work at all. Sometimes the session variable gets set, sometimes it doesn't. Everything else works great. But our client is seeing inconsistent results on pages rendered to their visitors and this is a problem. I've tried logging on from different PC's and I confirm that I get different, and unpredictable, results. The problem is I can't reproduce it at will, and I can't troubleshoot/trace Production. For now I've solved this by just creating duplicate pages with the special rendering, and making sure those visitors go there. But this is a hack and will eventually be difficult to maintain. Is there something special or inconsistent about session variables in Classic ASP? Is there a better way to approach the problem? TIA.

  • Getting a friend count from facebook (possibly using api)

    Im used to working with twitter, where friend/follower totals are available in a simple xml request. My goal is a simple "enter your username/user id, and display your friends count". Is there something like this for facebook? From what i gather, ill have to make an application, and have anyone who wants to grab their friends total actually install that app from within their own facebook profile. Anyone have any experience with this?

  • SmartGWT Program not displaying getting wnd.isc.Browser is null

    When running my gwt program in GWT Development Mode it fails to display showing this error in the console: com.google.gwt.core.client.JavaScriptException: (TypeError): '$wnd.isc.Browser' is null or not an object I do not believe the error is due to my project setup. Other member of the team can compile fine. It is most likely some type of config problem on my end. I have re-checked out the project and still get the error. I am using the latest jdk 1.6.0_19 if that matters

  • Getting types of the attributes in an ActiveRecord object

    I would like to know if it is possible to get the types (as known by AR - eg in the migration script and database) programmatically (I know the data exists in there somewhere). For example, I can deal with all the attribute names: ar.attribute_names.each { |name| puts name } .attributes just returns a mapping of the names to their current values (eg no type info if the field isn't set). Some places I have seen it with the type information: in script/console, type the name of an AR entity: >> Driver => Driver(id: integer, name: string, created_at: datetime, updated_at: datetime) So clearly it knows the types. Also, there is .column_for_attribute, which takes an attr name and returns a column object - which has the type buried in the underlying database column object, but it doesn't appear to be a clean way to get it. I would also be interested in if there is a way that is friendly for the new "ActiveModel" that is coming (rails3) and is decoupled from database specifics (but perhaps type info will not be part of it, I can't seem to find out if it is).     I'm starting with an address for an Exchange 2007 server: [email protected] And I attempted to send an autodiscover request, as documented at MSDN. I attempted to use the generic autodiscover address documented at the TechNet White Paper. So, using curl on PHP, I sent the following request: <Autodiscover xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/requestschema/2006"> <Request> <EMailAddress>[email protected]</EMailAddress> <AcceptableResponseSchema> http://schemas.microsoft.com/exchange/autodiscover/outlook/responseschema/2006a </AcceptableResponseSchema> </Request> </Autodiscover> to the following URL: https://domain.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml But got no response, just an eventual timeout. I also tried: https://autodiscover.domain.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml With the same result. Now, since my larger goal is to use Autodiscover with Exchange Web Services, and since all of the EWS URLs start with the same sub-domain as the Outlook Web Access address, I thought I'd give that a try: OWA: https://wmail.domain.exchangeserver.org So I tried: https://wmail.domain.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml And sure enough, I got back the expected response. However, I only knew the OWA sub-domain because it's the server I have access to and that I'm using to test everything. I would not know it for sure or be able to guess it if this were a live app and the user was entering in their own Exchange email. I know that whatever generic autodiscover settings must be turned on, because I can enter: [email protected] into Apple Mail on Snow Leopard and it finds everything without trouble. So the question is... Should https://domain.exchangeserver.org/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml have worked, and I just missed a step when trying to connect to it? Or, Is there some trick (maybe involving pinging the email address?) that Apple Mail and other clients use to resolve the address to the OWA subdomain before sending the autodiscover request? Thanks to anyone who knows or can take a wild guess.

  • Getting Response from TIdHttp with Error Code 400

    I have been writing a Delphi library for StackApps API. I have run into a problem with Indy. I am using the version that ships with Delphi 2010. If you pass invalid parameters to one of the StackApps API it will return a HTTP Error Code 400 and then in the response it will contain a JSON object with more details. By visiting http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/stats/?Key=BadOnPurpose in Chrome Browser you can see an Example. I.E. and Firefox hide the JSON. Using WireShark I can see that the JSON object is returned using the code below, but I am unable to access it using Indy. For this test code I dropped a TIdHttp component on the form and placed the following code in a button click. procedure TForm10.Button2Click(Sender: TObject); var SS : TStringStream; begin SS := TStringStream.Create; IdHTTP1.Get('http://api.stackoverflow.com/0.8/stats/?Key=BadOnPurpose',SS,[400]); Memo1.Lines.Text := SS.DataString; SS.Free; end; I passed [400] so that it would not raise the 400 exception. It is as if Indy stopped reading the response. As the contents of Memo1 are empty. I am looking for a way to get the JSON Details.

    I came across this error, and had to look in a lot of placed until i was able to find the reason for this error and thought this might save someone else the hassle. the reason is pretty simple: when SSL_Write returns with SSL_ERROR_WANT_WRITE or SSL_ERROR_WANT_READ, you have to repeat the call to SSL_write with the same parameters again, after the condition is satisfied. Calling it with different parameters, will yield the 1409F07F bar write retry error. Hope this saved someone's important time :P Amit.

  • shell_exec escaping quotes in php for Twitter API --> Getting CURL to work with obscure twitter api

    I'm using shell_exec() to execute a Twitter API Call. shell_exec('curl -u user:password -d "id=3191321" http://api.twitter.com/1/twitterapi/twitterlist/members.xml'); That works fine when I authenticate correctly and put in a number for the id. But when I try to put in a variable ($id), it screws up. $addtolist = shell_exec('curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d "id='.$id.'" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml'); I tried flipping the quote types $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d 'id=$id' http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); I tried using double quotes and escaping them $addtolist = shell_exec("curl -u pxlist:Weekend1 -d \"id=$id\" http://twitter.com/username/twitterlist/members.xml"); None of them worked. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: The purists say I should be using PHP's built in curl methods, not the shell_exec.   • Ruby Gems Not Installing, Hangs While Getting Gems

    I recently cleared out all of my ruby install and installed form sources using the instructions at hivelogic I have have been able to install a few gems, but most of the time, "sudo gem install rails" hangs. I've added the -V flag, and it just seems to hang, I don't get any error. And the process can not be killed. I can only reboot to kill the process.   • C#, Lotus Interop: Getting Message Information

    I'm using Interop.Domino.dll to retrieve E-mails from a Lotus "Database" (Term used loosely). I'm having some difficulty in retrieving certain fields and wonder how to do this properly. I've been using NotesDocument.GetFirstItem to retrieve Subject, From and Body. My issues in this regard are thus: How do I retrieve Reply-To address? Is there a list of "Items" to get somewhere? I can't find it. How do I retrieve friendly names for From and Reply-To addresses? When I retrieve Body this way, it's formatted wierdly with square bracket sets ([]) interspersed randomly across the message body, and parts of the text aren't where I expect them.   • getting an embedded resource in a single dll made up of multiple class libraries

    my solution has multiple projects and in one of them I have the code to get the embedded resource (an xml file) from another project. All this works fine when all the projects are seperate. However when all the class libraries are embedded into a single dll, the code to get the resource file does not work i.e. it cannot get the emebedded resource. I was wondering if the references to the emebedded resource get mixed up when they are combined together in a single dll?? I use the method Assembly.GetCallingAssembly().GetManifestResourceStream("namespace..filename");

    Hi gang, Using OpenSSO as an identity provider, what should I do (i.e. with FedUtil.exe) to configure my .NET relying party so that it will do the STS dance? I've gotten OpenSSO's WS-Trust client samples running, so I think OSSO's in a good state and ready for the next step. I'm at the FedUtil.exe's "Use an existing STS" wall. Where do I get the STS WS-Federation metadata document for OpenSSO? I have checked i do have the most recent version of flash installed correctly.   • Getting a .Net remoting service accessible with IP v6 and IP v4

    My company has an existing .Net Remoting service that listens on a port, fronting interfaces used by external systems. This all works great with IP v4 based communications. However, this service now needs to support both IP v4 communications and IP v6 communications. I have found info that the system.runtime.remoting section of the app.config should include two channels as follows: <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp6" port="9000" bindTo="[::]" /> <channel ref="tcp" name="tcp4" port="9000" bindTo="0.0.0.0" /> I've tried this. For communications to this service and a direct response back, this works great. Some of the communications instead return a stream back, either for uploading or downloading large files. These calls fail with the an ArgumentException: IPv4 address 0.0.0.0 and IPv6 address ::0 are unspecified addresses that cannot be used as a target address. Parameter name: hostNameOrAddress How should these config values be modified so that the client will know how to communicate back to the .Net remoting service?

I suppose it's time to burn up one of our support tickets with Microsoft.

  • Getting BeautifulSoup to find a specific <p>

    I'm trying to put together a basic HTML scraper for a variety of scientific journal websites, specifically trying to get the abstract or introductory paragraph. The current journal I'm working on is Nature, and the article I've been using as my sample can be seen at http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v463/n7284/abs/nature08715.html. I can't get the abstract out of that page, however. I'm searching for everything between the <p class="lead">...</p> tags, but I can't seem to figure out how to isolate them. I thought it would be something simple like from BeautifulSoup import BeautifulSoup import re import urllib2 address="http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v463/n7284/full/nature08715.html" html = urllib2.urlopen(address).read() soup = BeautifulSoup(html) abstract = soup.find('p', attrs={'class' : 'lead'}) print abstract Using Python 2.5, BeautifulSoup 3.0.8, running this returns 'None'. I have no option of using anything else that needs to be compiled/installed (like lxml). Is BeautifulSoup confused, or am I?

  • Wpf: Why is WriteableBitmap getting slower?

    There is a simple MSDN example about WriteableBitmap. It shows how to draw a freehand line with the cursor by just updating one pixel when the mouse is pressed and is moving over a WPF -Image Control. writeableBitmap.Lock(); (...set the writeableBitmap.BackBuffers pixel value...) writeableBitmap.AddDirtyRect(new Int32Rect(column, row, 1, 1)); writeableBitmap.Unlock(); Now I'm trying to understand the following behaviour when moving the mouse pointer very fast: If the image/bitmap size is relatively small e.g. 800:600 pixel, then the last drawn pixel is always "synchronized" with the mouse pointers position, i.e. there is no delay, very fast reaction on mouse movements. But if the bitmap gets larger e.g. 1300:1050 pixel, you can notice a delay, the last drawn pixel always appear a bit delayed behind the moving mouse pointer. So as in both cases only one pixel gets updated with "AddDirtyRect", the reaction speed should be independent from the bitmap size!? But it seems that Writeablebitmap gets slower when it's size gets larger. Or does the whole bitmap somehow get transferred to the graphic device on every writeableBitmap.Unlock(); call , and not only the rectangle area speficied in the AddDirtyRect method? fritz

    The default behavior of XML serialization (to_xml) for ActiveRecord objects will emit 'type' and 'nil' attributes that are similar to XML Schema Instance attributes, but aren't set in a XML Namespace. For example, a model might produce an output like this: <user> <username nil="true" /> <first-name type="string">Name</first-name> </user> Is there anyway to get to_xml to utilize the XML Schema Instance namespace and prefix the attributes and the values?
