• jQuery reference to (this) does not work?

  I have this href link with text either "attivo" or "non attivo" User can set the item to 'active' or 'closed' in the database with an ajax request $.post() I have 2 questions for these: I can't get the reference to $(this) to work.. I tried it with a normal link and it works, but not wrapped in if/else?? How can I prevent the user from clicking more than one time on the link and submitting several request? Is this a valid concern? Do I need some sort of a small timer or something? First I was thinking about a javascript confirm message, but that's pretty annoying for this function.. • Can you force a crash if a write occurs to a given memory location with finer than page granularity?

  I'm writing a program that for performance reasons uses shared memory (alternatives have been evaluated, and they are not fast enough for my task, so suggestions to not use it will be downvoted). In the shared memory region I am writing many structs of a fixed size. There is one program responsible for writing the structs into shared memory, and many clients that read from it. However, there is one member of each struct that clients need to write to (a reference count, which they will update atomically). All of the other members should be read only to the clients. Because clients need to change that one member, they can't map the shared memory region as read only. But they shouldn't be tinkering with the other members either, and since these programs are written in C++, memory corruption is possible. Ideally, it should be as difficult as possible for one client to crash another. I'm only worried about buggy clients, not malicious ones, so imperfect solutions are allowed. I can try to stop clients from overwriting by declaring the members in the header they use as const, but that won't prevent memory corruption (buffer overflows, bad casts, etc.) from overwriting. I can insert canaries, but then I have to constantly pay the cost of checking them. Instead of storing the reference count member directly, I could store a pointer to the actual data in a separate mapped write only page, while keeping the structs in read only mapped pages. This will work, the OS will force my application to crash if I try to write to the pointed to data, but indirect storage can be undesirable when trying to write lock free algorithms, because needing to follow another level of indirection can change whether something can be done atomically. Is there any way to mark smaller areas of memory such that writing them will cause your app to blow up? Some platforms have hardware watchpoints, and maybe I could activate one of those with inline assembly, but I'd be limited to only 4 at a time on 32-bit x86 and each one could only cover part of the struct because they're limited to 4 bytes. It'd also make my program painful to debug ;)

• Creating circular generic references

  I am writing an application to do some distributed calculations in a peer to peer network. In defining the network I have two class the P2PNetwork and P2PClient. I want these to be generic and so have the definitions of: P2PNetwork<T extends P2PClient<? extends P2PNetwork<T>>> P2PClient<T extends P2PNetwork<? extends T>> with P2PClient defining a method of setNetwork(T network). What I am hoping to describe with this code is: A P2PNetwork is constituted of clients of a certain type A P2PClient may only belong to a network whose clients consist of the same type as this client (the circular-reference) This seems correct to me but if I try to create a non-generic version such as MyP2PClient<MyP2PNetwork<? extends MyP2PClient>> myClient; and other variants I receive numerous errors from the compiler. So my questions are as follows: Is a generic circular reference even possible (I have never seen anything explicitly forbidding it)? Is the above generic definition a correct definition of such a circular relationship? If it is valid, is it the "correct" way to describe such a relationship (i.e. is there another valid definition, which is stylistically preferred)? How would I properly define a non-generic instance of a Client and Server given the proper generic definition?

  Before I dive into the disscusion part a quick question; Is there a method to determine if a variable is a reference to another variable/object? For example $foo = 'Hello World'; $bar = &$foo; echo (is_reference($bar) ? 'Is reference' : 'Is orginal'; I have been using PHP5 for a few years now (personal use only) and I would say I am moderately reversed on the topic of Object Orientated implementation. However the concept of Model View Controller Framework is fairly new to me. I have looked a number of tutorials and looked at some of the open source frameworks (mainly CodeIgnitor) to get a better understanding how everything fits together. I am starting to appreciate the real benefits of using this type of structure. I am used to implementing object referencing in the following technique. class Foo{ public $var = 'Hello World!'; } class Bar{ public function __construct(){ global $Foo; echo $Foo->var; } } $Foo = new Foo; $Bar = new Bar; I was surprised to see that CodeIgnitor and Yii pass referencs of objects and can be accessed via the following method: $this->load->view('argument') The immediate advantage I can see is a lot less code and more user friendly. But I do wonder if it is more efficient as these frameworks are presumably optimised? Or simply to make the code more user friendly? This was an interesting article Do not use PHP references.

• How can I delete, break, or otherwise convert cross references to simple text in microsoft word 2013

  Cross referencing figure and table captions is useful while editing a document but can become confude when copying and pasting between large documents. I need to pass my document to a colleague who will collate my document with others and has requested that I remove or delete any cross referencing so that my "correct" cross references do not interfere or get interfered with by any other cross references that may be in my colleagues master collated document. My document will be cut and pasted into the master and no further complicated instructions after that point will be tolerated by my colleague. Is there a simple way to convert my cross references to simple text? I am using microsoft word 2013.

  I wish to learn more about Technical and Solutions Architecture. Specifically, I'm concerned with designing HA, Fault-Tolerant Scalable web-based solutions (enough buzzwords ;-). Its a topic I'm familiar with on a technical level having worked as a sysadmin, but I don't know all the buzzwords Architects use and have to brush up on my UML and diagram techniques. I would like a book that describes what architecture is as a discipline and explores standard design patterns, and some do's and don'ts. Do you have any recommendations? I apologise if this sounds vague, its because I am still learning what Architecture is as a discipline having come from a sysadmin background. To be 100% clear I'm looking for books or websites that give broad overviews of what System Design patterns exist and how the discipline works. It only applies to the x64 build of my project, x86 still works fine. Apparently, it tries to build a x64 interop assembly from the x86 DLL located in "C:\Assemblies". When executing the TlbImp command with the x64 DLL which is located in a different directory, it works fine. However, I don't know how I can configure my project to use different COM references for the x86 and x64 build. The OS on which the project is being compiled is WinXP x86. Building worked fine when using VS2005 + MSBuild 3.5 Any help would be highly appreciated. I tried building the upgraded project with MSBuild v3.5, but that doesn't work either. It complains about unknown NoWarn codes (probably new in 4.0).

• Null date reference when passing json to MVC Controller

  I am building an event system that posts data to a google calendar. I am using jquery 1.4.2, fullcalendar 1.4.5, and asp.net MVC 2. I am using a jquery ui modal dialog for the entry system. Jquery ui datepicker for the from and to fields. Select boxes for the time fields. I have tried both string and DateTime formats in the GCalEvent Class for startDate, startTime, endDate and endTime. Whilst this is not big deal in theory, in my code, this object literal is passed to a second function call on_change. on_change works comparing an element inner HTML to a string. if it is the same, it sets a time out of to call the function again (this is sort of/almost recursive, but the function dose actually get to end before it is called again). if the elements inner HTML is different from the string, then the third parameter is executed. this will either be a function or a string. either way it will execute. I have tested this function plenty and used it for a while now. how ever, it cannot seem to get the object literal to flow through the function calls... var params = { xpos:'false'}; on_change('window_3_cont_buffer','',' if(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[0].innerHTML == \'ERROR\'){ alert(Window_manager.windows[3].window_cont_buffer.getElementsByTagName(\'content\')[0].getElementsByTagName(\'p\')[1].innerHTML); return false; } else { Window_manager.windows[3].load_xml(\'location/view.php?location_ID=3\', \'\', ' + params + ' ); } '); I call this as part of the form submission. after this line, I then call a function to load some content via ajax, which works fine and will trigger the code from the on_change function. I have tested load_xml function it is able to call alert(param.xpos) and get the correct response. I can even added in a check for being undefined so that rest of the times I cam load_xml I don't get swamped with alerts. The load_xml function first set up the on_change function, then calls the function to load the content to a hidden div. Once the AJAX request has updated that DIV, the on_change function should now call the parse_xml function. This pulls out the information from the xml file. How ever... The idea of this object literal param is that it can tell this parse_xml function to ignore certain things. on_change("window_" + this.id + "_cont_buffer", "", "Window_manager.windows[" + this.id + "].parse_xml('" + param + "')"); this is part of load_xml. it works perfectly fine, even with the param bit in there. except, parse_xml dose not seem to be able to use that parameter. I have been able to get it to a point where parse_xml can alert(param) and give [object object] which I would of thought meant that the object litteral had been passed through, but when I try and call alert(param.xpos) I get undefined. I know this is a pig of a problem, and I could get around it by just having the function take a zillion boolean parameters, but its just not practical or elegant. I'm sure you will need to ask me plenty more questions before I can solve this. I will post more complete code, I just cut it down to what is actually going on. Thanks

  So, I'm getting the infamously horrible "undefined reference to 'vtable..." error for the following code (The class in question is CGameModule.) and I cannot for the life of me understand what the problem is. At first, I thought it was related to forgetting to give a virtual function a body, but as far as I understand, everything is all here. • String Sharing/Reference issue with objects in Delphi

  My application builds many objects in memory based on filenames (among other string based information). I was hoping to optimise memory usage by storing the path and filename separately, and then sharing the path between objects in the same path. I wasn't trying to look at using a string pool or anything, basically my objects are sorted so if I have 10 objects with the same path I want objects 2-10 to have their path "pointed" at object 1's path (eg object[2].Path=object[1].Path); I have a problem though, I don't believe that my objects are in fact sharing a reference to the same string after I think I am telling them to (by the object[2].Path=object[1].Path assignment). When I do an experiment with a string list and set all the values to point to the first value in the list I can see the "memory conservation" in action, but when I use objects I see absolutely no change at all, admittedly I am only using task manager (private working set) to watch for memory use changes. Here's a contrived example, I hope this makes sense. I have an object: TfileObject=class(Tobject) FpathPart: string; FfilePart: string; end; Now I create 1,000,000 instances of the object, using a new string for each one: var x: integer; MyFilePath: string; fo: TfileObject; begin for x := 1 to 1000000 do begin // create a new string for every iteration of the loop MyFilePath:=ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName); fo:=TfileObject.Create; fo.FpathPart:=MyFilePath; FobjectList.Add(fo); end; end; Run this up and task manager says I am using 68MB of memory or something. (Note that if I allocated MyFilePath outside of the loop then I do save memory because of 1 instance of the string, but this is a contrived example and not actually how it would happen in the app). Now I want to "optimise" my memory usage by making all objects share the same instance of the path string, since it's the same value: var x: integer; begin for x:=1 to FobjectList.Count-1 do begin TfileObject(FobjectList[x]).FpathPart:=TfileObject(FobjectList[0]).FpathPart; end; end; Task Manager shows absouletly no change. However if I do something similar with a TstringList: var x: integer; begin for x := 1 to 1000000 do begin FstringList.Add(ExtractFilePath(Application.ExeName)); end; end; Task Manager says 60MB memory use. Now optimise with: var x: integer; begin for x := 1 to FstringList.Count - 1 do FstringList[x]:=FstringList[0]; end; Task Manager shows the drop in memory usage that I would expect, now 10MB. So I seem to be able to share strings in a string list, but not in objects. I am obviously missing something conceptually, in code or both! I hope this makes sense, I can really see the ability to conserve memory using this technique as I have a lot of objects all with lots of string information, that data is sorted in many different ways and I would like to be able to iterate over this data once it is loaded into memory and free some of that memory back up again by sharing strings in this way. Sales" End If Basically what is happening is, if a certain radio button is selected and the user didn't click the checkbox the default regions are included and they are hardcoded because the query runs much faster. if the user did click the checkbox then the textbox where they type the specific regions shows up and it will run the query that includes the dbo.B605SaleAsOfAdvancedMaster.SDESCR in (" & TextBox1.Text & ") If you can somehow do this using parameters and not with the textbox1.text in the query it will run much faster for me thanks for your help

• migrating Solaris to RH: network latency issue, tcp window size & other tcp parameters

  Hello I have a client/server app (Java) that I'm migrating from Solaris to RH Linux. since I started running it in RH, I noticed some issues related to latency. I read the doc about the slide window & buffer window, and played around with the rcvBuffer & sendBuffer in java on my sockets, but never managed to change this 5888 value to anything else (I checked each time directly with tcpdump). does anybody know how to do this ? I'm having a hard time getting definitive information, as in some cases there's "auto-negotiation" that I might need to bypass, etc... I eventually managed to get only partially rid of my initial problem by setting the "tcp_slow_start_after_idle" parameter to 0 on RH, but it did not change the "win" parameter at all. the same problem was there for the first 4 groups of 5 messages, with TCP retransmission & TCP Dup ACK in tcpdump, then the problem disappeared altogether for all following groups of 5 messages. It doesn't seem like a very clean and/or generic solution to me. I'd really like to reproduce the exact same conditions under both OSes. I'll keep researching, but any help from TCP gurus would be greatly appreciated ! thanks !
