• Why is cleartype so bad at high res?

  Cleartype is great when displaying small text 10 - 16px HOWEVER when you display something above 20px it start's looking like shit. Just compare it to Photoshop. Photoshop rendering at small size is not very impressive, too blurry. But if you compare it at 20px + Photoshop wins all the time. Cleartype looks jaggy around the edges, almost like there is no cleartype at all. Can this be fixed, or is it just the way cleartype is?

  I've had a few issues where users have mistakenly created public synonyms which have led to people thinking some objects are in one schema when they're actually in another schema. Everyone knows they should be using private synonyms, but occasionally they forget or they make a mistake and someone gets burned. Is it possible to GRANT users the permission to create private synonyms but disallow public ones?

• Benchmark virtual machines?

  I'm looking for a good way to benchmark the performance of Ubuntu machines (preferably from the command line - only care about harddrive speed, memory, and cpu - not graphics). Are there any programs that could also be used on Mac or Windows so I could compare the results against an Apple or PC Desktop? Ultimately I'd like to use these benchmarks to compare different virtual machine configurations (speeds on different hosts and different hardware to get practical idea of the differences between different setups a rigs). • SQL Server 2005 - Syncing development/production databases

  I've got a rather large SQL Server 2005 database that is under constant development. Every so often, I either get a new developer or need to deploy wide-scale schema changes to the production server. My main concern is deploying schema + data updates to developer machines from the "master" development copy. Is there some built-in functionality or tools for publishing schema + data in such a fashion? I'd like it to take as little time as possible. Can it be done from within SSMS?   Hi All, I'm currently struggling with this "Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute" issue. I have searched about this error message, and it's all related to the foreach statement. I do have the some foreach statements, but they are just simply representing the data. I did not using any remove or add inside the foreach statement. NOTE: The error randomly happens (about 4-5 times a day). The application is the MVC website. There are about 5 users operate this applications (about 150 orders a day). Could it be some another users modified the collection, and then occur this error? I have log4net setup and the settings can be found here Make sure that the controller has a parameterless public constructor I do have parameterless public constructor in AdminProductController Does anyone know why this happen and how to resolve this issue? A friend (Oskar) mentioned that "Theory: Maybe the problem is that your configuration and session factory is initialized on the first request after application restart. If a second request comes in before the first request is finished, maybe it will also try to initialize and then triggering this problem somehow." Many thanks. Can you please help me as to what i am doing wrong. And yes if i send just batchProgressMetricsList.get(0) in MAV it just works fine.

• JAXB: @XmlTransient on third-party or external super class

  Hi, I need some help regarding the following issue with JAXB 2.1. Sample: I've created a SpecialPerson class that extends a abstract class Person. Now I want to transform my object structure into a XML schema using JAXB. Thereby I don't want the Person XML type to appear in my XML schema to keep the schema simple. Instead I want the fields of the Person class to appear in the SpecialPerson XML type. Normally I would add the annotation @XmlTransient on class level into the Person code. The problem is that Person is a third-party class and I have no possibility to add @XmlTransient here. How can I tell JAXB that it should ignore the Person class without annotating the class. Is it possible to configure this externally somehow? Have you had the same problem before? Any ideas what the best solution for this problem would be?

• Ruby on Rails Foreigner plugin not working for SQL Server

  Well, now that I've finally got my stupid ODBC stuff configured, I took a schema.rb file that I dumped from a Postgres database and did a db:schema:load on it in a Rails project configured for SQL Server. Well, it sets up all the schema in the SQL Server database except for a minor detail: No foreign keys are created. The rake command doesn't show any errors and does say it is adding foreign keys. But they don't actually get added. This is the last bit from the command: -- add_foreign_key("workhistoryform", "form", {:name=>"workhistoryform_form_rid_fkey", :column=>"form_rid", :primary_key=>"form_rid"}) -> 0.0002s -- initialize_schema_migrations_table() -> 0.0092s -- assume_migrated_upto_version(0) -> 0.0942s [earlz@earlzarch avp_msql_migrations]$ So what is the problem? Does the Foreigner plugin not work in SQL Server? If it didn't I'd expect to see an error or something...

• How can I access an ASP.Net 2.0 web service using VB Script?

  I'm trying to find a way to access a web service from a VB Script .vbs file running under wscript.exe. I pulled some sample code from Microsoft but it gives me an error. Dim SOAPClient, Response Set SOAPClient = createobject("MSSOAP.SOAPClient") SOAPClient.mssoapinit("https://www.domain.com/Folder/Service.asmx?WSDL") On that last line I get an error message: WSDLReader: No valid schema specification was found. This version of the SOAP Toolkit only supports 1999 and 2000 XSD schema specifications After getting that message I installed the SOAP 3.0 SDK to make sure I have the most recent version (since it's now deprecated for .Net) but I still get the same error. The reason it needs to be in VB Script is because it's going to be used in a program over which I have no control and it only supports VB Script. Is there a way to get VB Script to be able to parse a newer WSDL file? I do have the source code for the web service. Is there something I can change in the web service to make it schema compatible with the SOAP toolkit?

• Word mergefield wildcard not correctly matching

  Hello, Below is my mergefield code: { IF { MERGEFIELD Subs_State } = "GA" "blah blah" "{ IF { MERGEFIELD CEOrgStates } = "GA" "blah blah" ""} "} I'm pulling records from a MS Access db. My goal is to check whether a record has Subs_State field matching "GA", or the CEOrgStates has the word "GA" (some records have stuff like "|FL|CA|GA|CT|KY|" (no quotes)). When I merged the docs, Word doesnt seem to be able to match with the wildcards: If I use and compare "*GA" (fields ending with GA), it works; however, the double wildcards "*GA*" dont seem to work at all. Here are the things I’ve tried: Have data in lowercase, then compare with lowercase Have data in lowercase, convert to and then compare with uppercase Do the opposite of the above 2 with uppercase data Use “*GA*” and “*ga*” (no pipe) Use different delimiters Nothing seems to work with the double wildcard matching. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

• How to configure build numbers in Visual Studio to enable dll comparison

  Hi Everyone- I am building a C# solution in Visual Studio 2008 that has several projects and project dependencies. I am looking for a way to change dll version numbers ONLY when the code that builds the project changes. I currently use Beyond Compare to compare my locally built version to the production file system. The goal is to ONLY deploy updated dlls. I am using autoincrementing version numbers, and each time you open visual studio and do a build, all dll version numbers increment. The same goes for a full solution rebuild and when a different developer does a build and tries to deploy. Is there a way that i can configure Visual Studio to ONLY increment the build number based on changed file contents? Is there an add in that will do this?It seems a binary comparison of these files will also fail because of the different version numbers within the dlls. Does anyone know of a better tool compare only the contents of dlls?Thanks in advance.

  I have a Maven 2 RESTful application using Jersey/JAXB. I generate the JAXB beans from a schema file, where the schema file is in my resources directory, e.g., src/main/resources/foo.xsd. I want to include foo.xsd file in the generated Maven site for my project, so that clients can see the XML schema when writing RESTful calls. How can I include foo.xsd in the site? I could have a copy of the file in src/main/site/..., and then update my site.xml to point to it (or have a .apt whose contents point to it), but I don't like that because I'm still tweaking foo.xsd, and don't want to have to remember to copy it each time I update it. And that's just bad practice. I also tried having a .apt file that has a link to the foo.xsd which gets copied to the target/classes directory. That works until I do a site:deploy, because that only copies the target/site directory. Thanks, Charles

  I want to create one so that I could check whether a certain word is in the set using set::find However, C-strings are pointers, so the set would compare them by the pointer values by default. To function correctly, it would have to dereference them and compare the strings. I could just pass the constructor a pointer to the strcmp() function as a comparator, but this is not exactly how I want it to work. The word I might want to check could be part of a longer string, and I don't want to create a new string due to performance concerns. If there weren't for the set, I would use strncmp(a1, a2, 3) to check the first 3 letters. In fact, 3 is probably the longest it could go, so I'm fine with having the third argument constant. Is there a way to construct a set that would compare its elements by calling strncmp()? Code samples would be greatly appreciated.

Unable to find the requested .Net Framework data provider" For instance, i've installed it , but i've also uninstalled old version, then installed new versions. In my project i simple copy Mysql dll into "bin" folder, then add a reference to that dll. I'm not sure is the corrected way... I need to have the "refreshed schema" to permit vs.net to build automatically my listview ... if i can't to "auto build" listview, i have to write all code by hand, and it is a too expensive work me :( What i'm wrong ? Multi-value schema attributes get considerably more complicated. Say (for the sake of argument) my value is "Projects" and each user may be a list as many projects as necessary.   I'm trying to get the source of a java resource stored in an oracle database using this code (connecting as SYSTEM for testing): DECLARE javalob CLOB; BEGIN DBMS_LOB.CREATETEMPORARY(javalob, false); DBMS_JAVA.EXPORT_RESOURCE('RESOURCENAME', 'SCHEMA', javalob); DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(javalob); END; But when I try to run it I get this: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception: java.lang.SecurityException: cannot read <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301> because SYSTEM does not have execute privilege on it This thing is, I'm not sure how to grant permissions on <Resource Handle: RESOURCENAME|SCHEMA|301>, as this isn't a SQL or PL/SQL object. And why doesn't SYSTEM have access to it anyway?

  I have several schemas in my database, and the largest one ("large" meaning disk space consumed) is my "web" schema which is a denormalized copy of data in the operational schemas. This denormalized data is able to be reconstructed at anytime, and is merely there for extremely fast read purposes. Since the data is redundant, and VERY large - I'd like to exclude it from being backed up. I already have stored procedures that can regenerate all of the data in that schema in a couple of hours - for use in the event of a failure. I assume I can split the tables in this schema out to another data file or such (ideally even on another drive for faster reads), but is there a way to never have that data file backup, yet still in the event of a failure its structure could be restored (and other DDL stuff like procs, views, etc)? Somewhat related, can I also have these tables not do transaction logging, if I go to "Full" backup mode for the rest of the database?

  I'm looking for an easy way to transfer a database schema I have developed inside visual studio as a strongly typed dataset (xsd file) into a corresponding sql server database. Silly me I assumed the process would be forthright, but I can't find out how to do it. I assume I could duplicate the tables column by column, but that seems so error prone. Does anyone know of a way to perform the schema transfer like this? Maybe a tool to translate the xsd file into a corresponding sql server ddl file? Final thought once I have the schema transferred moving data around between the two data stores will be straight forward, its just getting the schemas synced that has me stumped... Thanks, Keith

  This question is an extension of a previous one I have asked. I have a table (2014_05_31_transformed.Video) with a schema that looks like this. I have put up the JSON returned by the BigQuery API describing it's schema in this gist. I am trying to create a view against this table with an API call that looks like this: { 'view': { 'query': u 'SELECT deleted_mod_time FROM [2014_05_31_transformed.Video]' }, 'tableReference': { 'datasetId': 'latest_transformed', 'tableId': u 'Video', 'projectId': 'redacted' } } But, the BigQuery API is returning this error: HttpError: https://www.googleapis.com/bigquery/v2/projects/124072386181/datasets/latest_transformed/tables?alt=json returned "Invalid field name "deleted_mod_time.usec". Fields must contain only letters, numbers, and underscores, start with a letter or underscore, and be at most 128 characters long." The schema that the BigQuery API does not make any distinction between a TIMESTAMP data type and a regular nullable INTEGER data type, so I can't think of a way to programmatically correct this problem. Is there anything I can do, or is this a bug with BigQuery's view implementation?
