• Unit Testing using InternalsVisibleToAttribute requires compiling with /out:filename.ext?

  In my most recent question: Unit Testing Best Practice? / C# InternalsVisibleTo() attribute for VBNET 2.0 while testing?, I was asking about InternalsVisibleToAttribute. I have read the documentation on how to use it, and everything is fine and understood. However, I can't instantiate my class Groupe from my Testing project. I want to be able to instantiate my internal class in my wrapper assembly, from my testing assembly. Any help is appreciated!   I have an AdvancedDataGrid with a custom label function whose value can change based on other form status (specifically, there's a drop down to choose the time display format for some columns). The columns that have time formats have formatColumnTime as their labelFunction value, because extracting the seconds in that function and passing it in to the formatters made for a more testable app (IMHO). So, when the timeFormat.selectedItem value changes, I want to force my grid to re-calculate the labels of these colums. What method must I call on it? invalidateProperties() didn't work, so that's out.

• Nested Linear layout only shows first view after being set from gone to visible in Android

  Hi guys, I am developing an Android app but I'm still pretty new. I want to have a button, and when you push that button, a few TextViews and Buttons will appear. So I have a main linear layout, and then another linear layout nested inside containing the things I want hidden. I have the nested linear layout set to android:visibility="gone". The problem I am having is that it only shows the first item inside the hidden linear layout instead of all of them.   Hi, I have an application that is works fine and the JFrame for it is launched in the constructor of a GameInitializer class which takes in some config parameters. I have tried to create a GUI in which allows the user to specify these config parameters and then click submit. When the user clicks submit a new GameInitializer object is created. • Limit the number of service calls in a RESTful application

  Imagine some kind of a banking application, with a screen to create accounts. Each Account has a Currency and a Bank as a property, Currency being a separate class, as well as Bank. The code might look something like this: public class Account { public Currency Currency { get; set; } public Bank Bank { get; set; } } public class Currency { public string Code { get; set; } public string Name { get; set; } } public class Bank { public string Name { get; set; } public string Country { get; set; } } According to the REST design principles, each resource in the application should have its own service, and each service should have methods that map nicely to the HTTP verbs. So in our case, we have an AccountService, CurrencyService and BankService. In the screen for creating an account, we have some UI to select the bank from a list of banks, and to select a currency from a list of currencies. Imagine it is a web application, and those lists are dropdowns. This means that one dropdown is populated from the CurrencyService and one from the BankService. What this means is that when we open the screen for creating an account, we need to make two service calls to two different services. If that screen is not by itself on a page, there might be more service calls from the same page, impacting the performance. Is this normal in such an application? If not, how can it be avoided? How can the design be modified without going away from REST?

• Sending email with attachments from C#, attachments arrive as Part 1.2 in Thunderbird

  I have a C# application which emails out Excel spreadsheet reports via an Exchange 2007 server using SMTP. These arrive fine for Outlook users, but for Thunderbird and Blackberry users the attachments have been renamed as "Part 1.2". I found this article which describes the problem, but doesn't seem to give me a workaround. I don't have control of the Exchange server so can't make changes there. Is there anything I can do on the C# end? I have tried using short filenames and HTML encoding for the body but neither made a difference.   I extended JDialog to create a custom dialog where the user must fill some fields : How should I retrieve the data entered ? I came up with a solution that works. It mimics JOptionPane but the way I do it looks ugly to me because of the static fields involved... • How do I securely authenticate the calling assembly of a WCF service method?

  The current situation is as follows: We have an production .net 3.5 WCF service, used by several applications throughout the organization, over wsHttpBinding or netTcpBinding. User authentication is being done on the Transport level, using Windows integrated security. This service has a method Foo(string parameter), which can only be called by members of given AD groups. The string parameter is obligatory. A new client application has come into play (.net 3.5, C# console app), which eliminates the necessity of the string parameter. However, only calls from this particular application should be allowed to omit the string parameter. The identity of the caller of the client application should still be known by the server because the AD group limitation still applies (ruling out impersonation on the client side). I found a way to pass on the "evidence" of the calling (strong-named) assembly in the message headers, but this method is clearly not secure because the "evidence" can easily be spoofed. Also, CAS (code access security) seems like a possible solution, but I can't seem to figure out how to make use of CAS in this particular scenario. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to solve this issue? Edit: I found another thread on this subject; apparently the conclusion there is that it is simply impossible to implement in a secure fashion.

• ASP.NET Sql Timeout

  Well we have this Asp.Net application that we installed at a customer but now some times we get a SqlException that says "Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding." now the wired thing is that the exception comes instantly when i press the button, this does not happen every time i press the button so its random.. any idea what i could try to pinpoint the problem? We are using the EnterpriseLibrary Database block if that matters...   Hi all, In our application, I have seen code written like this: User.java (User entity) public class User { protected String firstName; protected String lastName; ... getters/setters (regular POJO) } UserSearchCommand { protected List<User> users; protected int currentPage; protected int sortColumnIndex; protected SortOder sortOrder; // the current user we're editing, if at all protected User user; public String getFirstName() {return(user.getFirstName());} public String getLastName() {return(user.getLastName());} } Now, from my experience, this pattern or anti-pattern looks bad to me. For one, we're mixing several concerns together. While they're all user-related, it deviates from typical POJO design. If we're going to go this route, then shouldn't we do this instead? UserSearchCommand { protected List<User> users; protected int currentPage; protected int sortColumnIndex; protected SortOder sortOrder; // the current user we're editing, if at all protected User user; public User getUser() {return(user);} } Simply return the user object, and then we can call whatever methods on it as we wish? Since this is quite different from typical bean development, JSR 303, bean validation doesn't work for this model and we have to write validators for every bean. Does anyone else see anything wrong with this design pattern or am I just being picky as a developer? Walter

  I want to reuse a WebRequest object so that cookies and session would be saved for later request to the server. Below is my code. • Problems with native Win32api RichEdit control and its IRichEditOle interface

As part of writing custom command (dll with class that implements Interwoven command interface) for one of Interwoven Worksite dialog boxes,I need to extract information from RichEdit textbox. The only connection to the existing dialog box is its HWND handle; Seemingly trivial task , but I got stuck : Using standard win32 api functions (like GetDlgItemText) returns empty string. After using Spy++ I noticed that the dialog box gets IRichEditOle interface and seems to encapsulate the string into OLE object. Here is what I tried to do: IRichEditOle richEditOleObj = null; IntPtr ppv = IntPtr.Zero; Guid guid = new Guid("00020D00-0000-0000-c000-000000000046"); Marshal.QueryInterface(pRichEdit, ref guid, out ppv); richEditOleObj = (IRichEditOle)Marshal.GetTypedObjectForIUnknown(ppv,typeof(IRichEditOle)); judging by GetObjectCount() method of the interface there is exactly one object in the textbox - most likely the string I need to extract.   Within Async handler I'm creating an IObservable from webrequest which returns a redirect string. I'm subscribing to that observable and calling AsyncResult.CompleteCall() but I'm forced to use Thread.Sleep(100) in order to get it executed. And it doesn't work every time. I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Could you please shine some light. Instead the string is getting written out as is and the browser is rendering it as just text (so you see <a href="blah.... ). Here's how I'm writing out this string: {$entry/atom:content/text()} How can I have the escaped characters unencoded so it writes < rather tha &lt; ? I've tried to do a replacelike this but it always replaces the &lt; with &lt; ! fn:replace($s, "&lt;", "<")

  I have a UserControl that is part of a Class library. I reference this project from my solution. This adds a control from the referenced project to my toolbox. I add tghe control to a form. Everything looks good, I compile all and run. Perfect... But when I close the .frm with the control on it and re-open it, I get this error. The code continues to run. It may have something to do with namespaces. The original namespace was simply "Design" and this was ambiguous and conflicting so i decided to rename it. I think that's when my problems began.
