  My input is a well-formed XML document and a corresponding XML Schema document. What I would like to do is determine the location within the XML document that causes it to fail validation against the XML Schema document. I could not figure out how to do this using the standard validation approach in Java: SchemaFactory schemaFactory = SchemaFactory.newInstance(XMLConstants.W3C_XML_SCHEMA_NS_URI); Schema schema = schemaFactory.newSchema(... /* the .xsd source */); Validator validator = schema.newValidator(); DocumentBuilderFactory ...   I have to use EMF in one of my class projects. I am trying to understand how to use EMF to do the following: Read XML, Get the values into objects. Use ORM to persist the values in objects to database. - Done Get data from database using ORM and generate XML. I need to do all of that using: EMF (no idea what so ever) and JPA (DONE). I have used JAXB and I know, this can be done using JAXB, but how is (EMF == JAXB)?! I have created many java classes using EMF, but there are so many of them! Where do I implement the read/write methods and how do I run the EMF project? Thanks

  I am using JdbcTemplate.queryForInt to insert a Row into the DB, and then get the ID back. The Query is "INSERT INTO metadocs(NAME) values (?) RETURNING METADOCID". If I run the statement in Flamerobin, it works fine. • iText - Modifying PDFWriter# Verticle Alignment manually

  Ive hit upon a problem using iText (java), despite hours of looking thru the docs.. Most of the code I use goes via the Document# API which tracks (via the PDFWriter instance) the current Y position. HOWEVER, we need to use the PdfContentByte part of the API to insert some Java2d into the document, but in doing so this appears to bypass the logic which tracks verticle writes. So next time I use the Document API, it overwrites the contents of the manually inserted things. I want to mimick the behaviour of the Document# API by manually moving the cursor on N number of units (N being the height of the element inserted by the PDFContentByte API), such that when I then use the Document object again, bingo, its cursor is in the correct location. I can see that a method to obtain the cursor exists; PdfWriter#getVerticalPosition(boolean); But not one to set it?! Any ideas anyone? Thanks.

  I am currently modifying an existing system that generates reports with iText and java. The report template is as follows: Header1(PdfPTable) Header2(PdfPTable) Body(PdfPTable) I am currently using the writeSelectedRows to display Header1 and Header2, but document.add is used to display the Body. The problem is that the system is setup to write the headers AFTER the body has already been displayed on the screen, so I am displaying my headers on top of my body content. My question is how do I add my body table (using document.add) and have it display about halfway down the page (or any predetermined vertical position)? This way I would have sufficient room to display my headers above the body table. Note: I believe the body table is using document.add to facilitate automatic paging if the body content is too large.

• JTwitter OAuth signpost example

  Hey. I believe JTwitter supports OAuth to authenticate against a developer account , however i cannot get any of them working.   According to the tutorial : http://jpa.ezhibernate.com/Javacode/learn.jsp?tutorial=27hibernateloadvshibernateget, If you initialize a JavaBean instance with a load method call, you can only access the properties of that JavaBean, for the first time, within the transactional context in which it was initialized. If you try to access the various properties of the JavaBean after the transaction that loaded it has been committed, you'll get an exception, a LazyInitializationException, as Hibernate no longer has a valid transactional context to use to hit the database. But with my experiment, using hibernate 3.6, and postgres 9, it doesnt throw any exception at all. Am i missing something ?   I have the following code in a c++ "listener class" (more or less), which calls some function of a Java object. JNI Documentation isn't very clear about it.

  I watched today as someone painlessly exported a NetBeans java project to a JNLP file and HTML file that he could just copy to his web server. I, for whatever reason, have found making JNLPs someone challenging, and would love if I could do the same in Eclipse, but I can't seem to find such a function or a plugin which does this. The only thing I've found is this article but I can't really parse it, it's a bit dense to me, for instance it mentions: Ensure that the org.eclipse.equinox.launcher plug-in is in the feature or in one of the included feature; But if that's even a grammatical sentence, I don't know how to ensure what it says.

  I am trying use a Java Uploader in a ROR app (for its ease of uploading entire directories). The selected uploader comes with some PHP code that saves the files to the server. I am trying to translate this code to Ruby, but am stumped on this point: PHP has a very convenient superglobal – $_FILES – that contains a hash of all files uploaded to the current script via the HTTP POST method. It appears Ruby does not have a similar resource. Lacking that, what is the best way to access and save the uploaded files?   Is there a way to store a conversion strategy (for converting some bytes) into a database and then execute it on the run time. If one were to store a complete java file, you would need to compile it, store the class and some how inject into the already running system. I am not sure how this would be possible. But using some kind of dynamic language on JVM would be nice. I see an example of execution of groovy from within spring context here http://www.devx.com/tips/Tip/42789 but this is still static in nature as application context contains the reference to the implementation and cannot be changed by database. Perhaps with JavaConfig of context it is possible. I am exploring options now, specifically with Spring 3.0. Your suggestions in any direction would be welcome.

  I need to know, in a context of a unit test, if Jetbrains IntelliJ idea is the test initiator and if it is, which version is running (or at least if it's "9" or earlier). I don't mind doing dirty tricks (reflection, filesystem, environment...) but I do need this to work "out-of-the-box" (without each developer having to setup something special). I've tried some reflection but couldn't find a unique identifier I could latch onto. Any idea? Oh - the language is Java.

• How do I copy the layout from a header of a JTabbedPane onto a JPanel?

  I have created a "CollapsingPanel"class/sort of a JTabbedPane (code skeleton can be found at http://www.coderanch.com/t/341737/Swing-AWT-SWT-JFace/java/Expand-Collapse-Panels). It is in other words a lot of headers which you click on to show a hidden Panel. At the moment these header-panels are a rectangular box with a LineBorder around them. That is ugly! I'm wondering if there is a way to copy the layout that the JTabbedPane uses for its headers/titles (which is inhierted from Look&Feel I assume) and use it on my JPanel-based headers? So that my headers get a smooth look which is in line with the rest of the program (based on Look&Feel!) instead of looking like alien flat blocks.   Hello, I have a fairly simple question about these 2 templating engines. I'm trying to make a future/paste date, a fixed time from now, e.g. 18 months ago, or tomorrow. I know that it is possible to do this with a java date object inside a velocity/freemarker template (something like $date.add(2,-18)), but I would like to do this with DateTool or freemarker core. This is something that I see as purely presentational (just think at the default dates you see in flight booking forms), so I can't see any reason why a templating engine shouldn't be able to do this. Is it possible though? If so, how?

• 2-legged OAuth and the Gmail atom feed

  We're trying to get 2-legged OAuth to work with the Gmail atom feed. We're using the Java library contributed by John Kristian, Praveen Alavilli and Dirk Balfanz. [http://oauth.net/code/] instead of the GData library. We know we have the correct CONSUMER_KEY and CONSUMER_SECRET, etc. becuase it works with the Contacts feed (http://www.google.com/m8/feeds/contacts/default/full) and have no problems. However with Gmail atom feed it always returns: HTTP/1.1 401 Unauthorized Any ideas? Should we try a different OAuth framework or does the problem lie on the Google side?

• Hibernate Schema Validation Fails on Oracle Table Synonyms

  I'm developing a Java web application that uses Hibernate (annotations-based) for persisting entities to an Oracle 11g database. The DBA created synonyms for the tables and requested that I use these synonyms instead of the physical tables. (Eg: Table "Foo" has synonym "S_Foo") If I have "hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto=validate" enabled, then the application fails on startup with "Missing Table: S_Foo". If I turn off the validation, then the app starts up fine and works properly. My guess is that Hibernate only checks against physical tables and not synonyms when validating that a table exists. Is there any way to enable Hibernate schema validation with synonyms? Can I specify both a physical table and a synonym in the annotation? I prefer having that extra safety check that the table structure is correct when the application starts up.

• Upload multiple Images and Ping an address to upload them

  Hello! I am trying to allow administrators to upload 20-30 images in one go. I have tried jquery uploadify, SWFUpload and other various jquery scripts. However I have had many issues doing this. Uploadify worked fine, however it stopped working and after a day of debugging I couldn't figure out why (and by god, I tried to figure out why) So I have decided to try a java applet, however they all seem to cost quite abit of money. All I need is something to select some images, then each image upload pings and address where I can resize them in PHP, and done. Does anyone know a freeware solution thats easy to use?

  Hello I'm working on a project with Eclipse and by now everything was fine, but last time I've tried building it, it returned the error "The project was not built due to "Could not delete '/Torpedo/bin/bin'.". Fix the problem, then try refreshing this project and building it since it may be inconsistent Torpedo Unknown Java Problem" and it deleted my bin folder which stores all the images and stuff needed for the program. (Fortunately I had a backup). I've tried googling it and tried every solution I found, but nothing helped, and also most of them suggests to delete the folder by hand, which I can't. What should I do? Thanks.

• Building Eclipse RCP application, running fails

  Hi, after successfully building my application the start fails because it relies on config files which are located in the META-INF directory and after the build this directory is zipped into a jar file, hence making it unable to access the config files. After manually unzipping the jar, deleting the jar and renaming the directory with xxx.jar the program runs without a problem. The config files are needed for SSO login (Kerberos). • How to use Blazeds with a custom classloader?

  Hi, has anybody tried using a custom classloader with BlazeDS? We have a web application using BlazeDS and we can convert Java objects in to ActionScript object and back without problems in the main application. However, we also have a plug-in mechanism based on a custom classloader. BlazeDS cannot map the types contained in jar files of that custom classloader since I don't know how to tell it to BlazeDS. Has anybody already done this? The livedocs of TypeMarshallingcontext show a setClassloader() method, but since the context seems to be a singleton, I assume this will not work if you have multiple custom classloaders (we have 1 for each plugin that is deployed) regards, Wim
