• Lync server 2010 Active Directory Preparation with a Windows Server 2003 DC

  I'm trying to install Lync server 2010 but i'm stuck for a while now with the "Active Directory Preparation" part of the Lync server 2010 installation. The "Prepare Schema" fails with the following error: "Step 1: Prepare Schema Run once per deployment. Extends the schema for Lync Server. Not Available: Failure occurred while attempting to check the schema state. Please ensure Active Directory is reachable." screenshot: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 The situation: 1 server with Windows Server 2003 (x86), which is the only Domain Controller (DC) 1 server with Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64) where Lync should be installed. First I have found that the DFL/FFL were not correct: On the DC (server2003) I have changed the Domain Functional Level to Windows Server 2003 and also the Forest Functional Level to Windows Server 2003. If I check these settings on the Server2008 with Active Directory Domains and Trusts, I see indeed that the DFL and FFL are being set to Windows Server 2003. (Windows Server 2003 is the minimum required for Lync server 2010) I tried the Lync AD Preparation again but still got the same message: https://skydrive.live.com/#cid=CB15F1A932B364BE&id=CB15F1A932B364BE%211742 I'm logged in on the Server2008 and Server2003 with the domain administrator account. If I check "Active Directory Users and Computers" and go to the directory Users and watch the properties from the Administrator User then it is also a Member of: Domain Admins Domain Users Enterprise Admins Schema Admins Group Policy Creator Owners The firewall on the server2008 is turned off, still nog working So now my question is: what should I do to make the Lync setup (Active Directory Preparation) work? (I would appreciate clear step-by-step suggestions to check.) Thanks in advance. Update 1: Now I've extended AD successfully on the 2003 DC, using this link: http://blogs.pointbridge.com/Blogs/sloan_jason/Pages/Post.aspx?_ID=2 but when I check the Active Directory Preparation again on the Lync install, it still gives me the same error as in the screenshot I've provided. Update 2: I found out that there is a log on "C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp\ with this: Get-CSDomainState Get Domain State Error: An error occurred: "Microsoft.Rtc.Management.ADConnect.NoSuitableServerFoundException" "No suitable domain controller was found in domain "OurDomain.LOCAL". • IIS6 Virtual Directory 500 Error on Remote Share

  We have our servers at the server farm in a domain. Let's call it LIVE. Our developer computers live in a completely separate corporate domain, miles and miles away. Let's call it CORP. We have a large central storage unit (unix) that houses images and other media needed by many webservers in the server farm. The IIS application pools run as (let's say) LIVE\MediaUser and use those credentials to connect to a central storage share as a virtual directory, retrieve the images, and serve them as if they were local on each server. The problem is in development. On my development machine. I log in as CORP\MyName. My IIS 6 application pool runs as Network Service. I can't run it as a user from the LIVE domain because my machine isn't (and can not be) joined to that domain. I try to create a virtual directory, point it to the same network directory, click Connect As, uncheck the "Always use the authenticated user's credentials when validating access to the network directory" checkbox so that I can enter the login info, enter the credentails for LIVE\MediaUser, click OK, verify the password, etc. This doesn't work. I get "HTTP Error 500 - Internal server error" from IIS. The IIS log file reports sc-status = 500, sc-substatus = 16, and sc-win32-status = 1326. The documentation says this means "UNC authorization credentials are incorrect" and the Win32 status means "Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password." This would be all and good if it were anywhere close to accurate. I double- and trouble-checked it. Tried multiple known good logins. The IIS manager allows me to view the file tree in its window, it's only the browser that kicks me out. I even tried going to the virtual directory's Directory Security tab, and under Authentication and Access Control, I tried using the same LIVE domain username for the anonymous access credential. No luck. I'm not trying to run any ASP, ASP.NET, or other dynamic anything out of the virtual directory. I just want IIS to be able to load static images, css, and js files. If anyone has some bright ideas I would be most appreciative!

• Extjs: Tree, Selecting node after creating the tree

  I have a simple TreePanel. I would like to select a particular node upon loading it. The nodes are from a remote file (json). The tree is loading as expected. However, the node is not being selected. Firebug shows node as undefined. This perhaps because of the async property. But, I an unable to configure this other wise, or specify the node be selected. Any suggestions welcomed, and thank you.   While developing a PHP+JS web application we always try to separate big blocks of code into small modules/components, in order to make these last ones as much reusable as possible in other applications. Let's say we now have: the EcommerceApp (an ecommerce main application) a Server-file-mgr component (a component to view/manage file on server) a Mylib (a library of useful functions) a MailistApp (another main application to handle mail lists) ... EcommerceApp needs both Server-file-mgr component and Mylib to work Server-file-mgr needs Mylib to work MaillistApp needs both Server-file-mgr component and Mylib to work too. My idea is to simply structure the SVN project folder tree putting everything at the same level: trunk/EcommerceApp trunk/Server-file-mgr trunk/Mylib trunk/MaillistApp But in real life to make these apps to work the folder tree structure must be the following: EcommerceApp |_ Mylib |_ Server-file-mgr MaillistApp |_ Mylib |_ Server-file-mgr I mean Mylib and Server-file-mgr needs to be inside the EcommerceApp/MaillistApp folder. How would you then structure the SVN folder, as I did or in a different/better/smarter way???

  Hello, The other day i just accidently visited the site myheritage.com. I was just wondering, how they must have created one? Can anybody tell me what can be their database design? and if possible, algorithm that we can use to generate such a tree? Generating simple binary tree is very easy using recursion. But if you have a look at the site(if you have time please make account on it and add few nodes to feel) when we add son to a father, it's mother is automatically added(if you don't add explicitly). Mother's family tree is also generated side by side and many such fancy things are happening. In a simple binary tree we have a root node and then many nodes below it. Thus we cannot show wife and husband in the tree and then show a line from wife and husband to child. In spare time, can anybody discuss what can be it's database design and the recursive algorithm that we can follow to generate it? I hope i am not asking too much from you :).

• Sorting by custom field and fetching whole tree from DB

  Hello everyone, I am trying to do file browser in a tree form and have a problem to sort it somehow. I use PHP and MySQL for that. I've created mixed (nested set + adjacency) table 'element' with the following fields: element_id, left_key, right_key, level, parent_id, element_name, element_type (enum: 'folder','file'), element_size. Let's not discuss right now that it is better to move information about element (name, type, size) into other table. Function to scan specified directory and fill table work correctly. Noteworthy, i am adding elements to tree in specific order: folders first and then files. After that i can easily fetch and display whole table on the page using simple query: SELECT * FROM element WHERE 1=1 ORDER BY left_key With the result of that query and another function i can generate correct html code (<ul><li>... and so on). to display tree. Now back to the question (finally, huh?). I am struggling to add sorting functionality. For example i want to order my result by size. Here i need to keep in my mind whole hierarchy of tree and rule: folders first, files later. I believe i can do that by generating in PHP recursive query: SELECT * FROM element WHERE parent_id = {$parentId} ORDER BY element_type (so folders would be first), size (or name for example) asc/desc After that for each result which has type = 'folder' i will send another query to get it's content. Also it's possible to fetch whole tree by left_key and after that sort it in PHP as array but i guess that would be worse :) I wonder if there is better and more efficient way to do such a thing?

  I want to define a 'node' class/struct and then declare a tree of these nodes in code in such a way that the way the code is formatted reflects the tree structure, and there's not 'too much' boiler plate in the way. Note that this isn't a question about data structures, but rather about what features of C++ I could use to arrive at a similar style of declarative code to the example below. • Using Apache / Kerberos / Keytab to Authenticate Redmine Users Against Active Directory

  Please bare with me, as I am still fresh to these technologies. We have a Debian (squeeze) server to which I have root access. It is running Apache, and Redmine is deployed to the server (currently using a local MySQL database for authentication). Apache is configured to use Kerberos and a keytab file to authenticate users against Active Directory. With the current configuration, as soon as a user attempts to access anything over https, the user is prompted for a username / password, which is successfully authenticated against Active Directory. I understand (somewhat) that Redmine has its own LDAP configuration that can be used to authenticate users against an existing Active Directory, but this would require the user to enter their credentials one time for Apache and then a second time for Redmine. I am wondering, Can I somehow configure Redmine to share the Apache authentication method as opposed to requiring the user to enter their credentials a second time? (Using Apache to authenticate against Active Directory is a requirement for a separate application on the server)

There is a text "For Active Directory connections to work, this account must have directory sync rights." but I don't know what that means... My question is: There is nothing in the Event Log. Where is the error-log? :-)

  I've Googled around for this to no avail, I'm sure its just something simple but I have not been able to figure this out perhaps because searching in Google or SF for a "-" can be problematic. I had a strange directory listing show up the other day in my git repository within Drupal. Listing my sites directory looks like this: -sh-4.1$ ls -al total 52 drwxr-xr-x 5 (hide) (hide) 4096 Dec 6 16:15 . drwxr-xr-x 24 (hide) (hide) 4096 Dec 11 16:22 .. -rw-rw-r-- 1 (hide) (hide) 24271 Dec 6 15:57 – drwxrwxr-x 4 (hide) (hide) 4096 Sep 17 11:53 all drwxr-xr-x 3 (hide) (hide) 4096 Sep 17 11:54 default drwxrwxr-x 8 (hide) (hide) 4096 Dec 11 17:40 .git -rw-rw-r-- 1 (hide) (hide) 476 Sep 17 11:53 .gitignore -rw-rw-r-- 1 (hide) (hide) 81 Sep 17 11:53 README.md This "-" file cannot be opened and does not appear to be a symlink, although when I execute "cd -" I get this: -sh-4.1$ cd - /home/sites/dev1.(hide).com That is coincidentally or not the users home directory, and the site's root directory. The other strange this is this entry does not show up for any other user browsing this same directory. Nor does it show up for other users period in their Git directories. The entry cannot be removed via RM. Running Centos 6.2 by the way...

• Websphere SSL handshake with active directory cluster

  We have a WebSphere based application that uses Active Directory(AD) based security configurations. Under WebSphere "Global security" we have configured the active directory server and connection parameters. Active directory server is actually a cluster of four servers, say, serverdc01, serverdc02,serverdc03 and serverdc04. Each of these servers have their own root certificate with CN=serverdc01, CN=serverdc02 ..so on. So to set up SSL communication, I need to retrieve certificate of active directory and save it in WebSphere's trust store. When I retrieve certificate by putting AD server name, port and retrieve certificate I randomly get certificate of one of the serverdc01,serverdc02 ... Then I save that certificate to trust store. Question is : Do I have to save certificate from each of the serverdc01,serverdc02 ...in cluster to WebSphere's trust store? What are general strategies so that each server in the cluster does not require its own root certificate?

Situation we have a remote Windows Server 2008R2 VPS and i just installed the Active Directory Domain Services Role. A DNS Server was also configured by default at the end of the Active Directory installation. Problem I can't get my Windows 7 machine to register itself to the domain i have just created Question What are the steps i have to take to test my Active Directory configuration, and how do i connect clients to this Domain?   So I recently came across this question - Make a function that converts a in-level-order binary tree into a doubly linked list. Apparently, it's a common interview question. This is the strategy I had - Simply do a pre-order traversal of the tree, and instead of returning a node, return a list of nodes, in the order in which you traverse them. i.e return a list, and append the current node to the list at each point. For the base case, return the node itself when you are at a leaf. so you would say left = recursive_function(node.left) right = recursive_function(node.right) return(left.append(node.data)).append(right);` Is this the right approach?

  I have sent the following question to stackoverflow website I have installed Windows server 2008 r2 on a virtual machine, Can I install Active directory with domain controller + IIS + SQL server on the same machine? I want to make web application and this web application will authenticate users from Active Directory, the web application should be published on the server IIS and the users should access it remotely from their home using domain name of my machine, Someone tell me that its very wrong to have IIS and Active directory on the same machine I got the following Answer You can't use ActiveDirectory over the internet. At least not without something like a VPN as a middle man. Their home computers will not be joined to the domain, so there is no pass-through authentication. Yes, it's a bad idea to put AD on the web server. Why is too complex to get into in an answer here. Suffice it to say that even if you did do this, it's probably would not work the way you are thinking it should. It's not impossible to do this. For instance, many of the Microsoft "Small Businesss" products put IIS, AD, and SQL Server on the same server. But, you kind of have to know what you're doing to configure it securely. Then I add the following comment Thanks for ur reply.so what you think about the best way to do this as I didn't do anything like that before should I install active directory on a machine and IIS on another machine ? and what about SQL should I add it to the same server of active directory ? I didn't mentioned also that it will be Microsoft dynamics server that will access some information about work and i have to read data from axapta also ? also what is VPN and how can I use it to let users access my web application anywhere ? Sorry for my long questions and thanks in advance so please if anyone can help I will be thankful

• Start TLS and 389 Directory

  I'm trying to configure Start TLS on 389 Directory server, but I'm having all sorts of issues. I've been following this doc: https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Directory_Server/9.0/html/Administration_Guide/managing-certs.html which specifies that I should create a certificate for both the directory server and admin server. I've imported the CA cert on both servers. I've tried to use the same server certificate for both. It will not allow me to do so. However, the admin and directory servers reside on the same host. If I generate a new certificate it will need to use the same hostname. I'm not sure if that's valid... Has anyone out there set this up before? Any direction would be helpful. I have multmaster replication set up. From an external client, I'm attempting to do an ldapsearch -ZZ -x -h "myhost" -b "dc=example,dc=com" -D "cn=Directory Manager" -W "", and I'm getting a protocol error.
