I have no idea who this company is or why they are pointing their domain at my server IP? How can I go about stopping this or forcing them to change?

• Apache returning text/html on some png files

  I have an Apache web server that has a sub folder for images. For some reason, a few of the .png files are returned as text/html and not as image/png. There is nothing indicating a permission problem and the files return with code 200 and with full size. I made sure that image/png is set and even tried forcing it with .htaccess Any idea where to look next? Edit: looks like an .htaccess configuration problem on a parent directory.

• Determine who is opening a .PST file from a network drive on the local network?

  Our system admin has been struggling with the issue of our network getting completely locked up when users open PST files from network drives. Apparently Microsoft is aware of this problem but there is no fix for it. The entire local network is unable to use Outlook while this file is being opened (which may take hours). Is there a way to determine which user is opening the file instead of forcing everyone in the office to close outlook (like a traffic monitor or something)?

  Hello, Can anyone suggest a method of mounting a partition (e.g. an NFS share) when a user changes into the directory it is set to be mounted to, and not on the system startup? So far I've been unable to propose such a method, aside from editing BASH built-in cd implementation and forcing an fstab/mtab check before the working directory is actually changed.

• AD reset user passwords for a security group

  I'm not quite sure if this is possible or not, but I need to force a certain security group's users to have their passwords expire so they'll be forced to change them on next login. The reason for this is because I applied a FGPP (password policy) to this particular group in order to enforce strong passwords. Well, many users have really weak passwords and they won't be changed unless they're forced. Is there a way to do this without forcing everyone to a single password?

• Force Windows 7 to store thumbnails locally

  I want Windows 7 to store thumbnails cache files in the same folder as the files (thumbs.db) instead of using the centralized location for all thumbnails (By default %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer). How would one achieve this effect? Alternatively, if the former is implausible, I'd settle for no thumbnail caching at all, forcing Windows to regenerate thumbnails each time a folder is accessed.

• my gateway laptop will not reboot

  My gateway laptop model nx570xl originally rebooted normally. I don't know when it happened, but now when i try to reboot it Keeps trying but it never happens forcing me to shut down and wait a random amt of time before it will start up again. Its very annoying and wastes a lot of my time. I don't think its a cpu overheating problem because its random when it starts up after i turn it back on. Any ideas?

• Failed to create symbolic link to keytool

  Keytool is /usr/bin/keytool and points to /etc/alternatives/keytool which in turn points to /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/keytool. Now I have installed java version 1.7.0_45 so I need to change keytool to the new path : /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_45/jre/bin/keytool I tried deleting the /usr/bin/keytool with rm -rf and then adding a new link like : sudo ln -s /usr/bin/keytool /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_45/jre/bin/keytool but what I get is ln: failed to create symbolic link `/usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0_45/jre/bin/keytool': File exists I also tried : sudo update-alternatives --config keytool There is only one alternative in link group keytool: /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/keytool Nothing to configure. update-alternatives: warning: forcing reinstallation of alternative /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-i386/jre/bin/keytool because link group keytool is broken. but doesn't works too.   Background: My intention was to load a Virtual Machine (VM) on my Mac OS X Snow Leopard. My Mac had just enough room for a VM (my thought process was that VM was the same as partition) However, I burned the newest version of Ubuntu onto a CD, thinking that partitioning and running a virtual machine would be the same. I would restart my computer, booting up Ubuntu installer. The installation would not allow me to partition, forcing me to force shutdown my laptop. when I turn on my laptop, I see that my computer is "missing operating system". So, can someone help me fix my a) bootcamp, b) getting files and if a and b are fixed c) to install ubuntu as a VM?

  I've done some basic 1 D integration, but i can't wrap my head around things and apply it to my graph layout. So, consider the picture below: if i drag the red node to the right, i'm forcing his position to my mouse position the other nodes will "follow" him, but how ? For Verlet, to compute the newPosition, i need the acceleration for every node and the currentPosition. That is what i don't understand. How to i compute the acceleration and the currentPosition ?   Ok so it took a while to post this second part. Many apologies, we had a big roll out of a new platform at work and many things had to get sidelined. So this is the second part in a short series of website performance and using versioning to help improve it. Minification and Concatination of JavaScript and CSS Files Versioning Combined Files Using Subversion – this post Versioning Combined Files Using Mercurial – published shortly In the previous post we used AjaxMin to shrink js and css files then concatenated them into one file each which had the file name of site-script.combined.min.js and site-style.combined.min.css. These file names are fine, but you can configure IIS 7 to cache these static files and so lower the amount of data transferred between server and client. This is done by editing the response headers in IIS. 1. In IIS7 Manager, choose the directory where these files are located and select HTTP Response Headers. 2. Check the Expire Web Content and set a time period well into the future. 3. When refreshing the web page, the server will respond with HTTP 304 forcing the browser to retrieve the file from its cache. 4. As can be seen in FireBug, the Cache-Control header has a max age of 31536000 seconds which equates to 365 days.   The server will always send this HTTP 304 message unless the file changes forcing it to send new content. To help force this we can change the file name based on the latest build using the SVN revision number in the filename. So we have lowered data transfer on content that hasn’t changed, but forced it to be sent when you have made a change to the css or js files. Now to get the SVN revision number in to the file name. 1. Import the MSBuildCommunityTasks targets which can be dowloaded from here. 1: <Import Project="$(MSBuildExtensionsPath) 2: \MSBuildCommunityTasks 3: \MSBuild.Community.Tasks.Targets" /> 2. Edit the BeforeBuild target to call out to svn and get the latest revision 1: <SvnVersion LocalPath="$(MSBuildProjectDirectory)" 2: ToolPath="$(ProgramFiles)\VisualSVN Server\bin"> 3: <Output TaskParameter="Revision" PropertyName="Revision" /> 4: </SvnVersion> 3. Set it to update the project AssemblyInfo.cs file for the svn revision. 1: <FileUpdate Files="Properties\AssemblyInfo.cs" 2: Regex="(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)\.(\d+)" 3: ReplacementText="$1.$2.$3.$(Revision)" /> 4. Now edit the AfterBuild target to get the full dll version. You could combine these two steps and just get the version from svn, I am working on one project that updates the AssemblyInfo file and another project that allows manual editing of the file, but needs that version within the file name; so I just combined the two for this post. 1: <MSBuild.ExtensionPack.Framework.Assembly 2: TaskAction="GetInfo" 3: NetAssembly="$(OutputPath)\mydll.dll"> 4: <Output TaskParameter="OutputItems" ItemName="Info" /> 5: </MSBuild.ExtensionPack.Framework.Assembly> 6: <Message Text="Version: %(Info.AssemblyVersion)" 7: Importance="High" /> 5. Use this Info.AssemblyVersion to write out the combined css and js files as described in the last post. 1: <WriteLinestoFile File="Scripts\site-%(Info.AssemblyVersion).combined.min.js" 2: Lines="@(JSLinesSite)" Overwrite="true" />   In the next post I will cover doing the same, but for a Mercurial repository.

• Web standards or risk avoidance?

  My company is building an App Engine application. The app encounters a bug (possibly due to an issue with App Engine itself, as per our research) on IE9, but it cannot be reliably reproduced and is experienced by a small percentage of users. The workaround is to force IE9 to use IE8 mode. As a lazy front end developer (who doesn't like CSS hacks, shims and polyfills) I think it's OK to at least try going back to IE9 mode and see what happens, while we're still in private beta. The senior engineer (being more pragmatic) would rather that we continue forcing IE9 users to use the older IE8 mode. Who is right?

• Block elements vs inline elements in HTML: why the distinction?

  The distinction between block and inline elements always seemed strange to me. The whole difference is that a block element takes up the entire width thus forcing a line break before and after the element, and an inline element only takes up as much as the content. Why not just have one type of element- an inline element where you can also apply custom height/width, and use that? You want line breaks? Insert a <br />, or maybe add a special tag in the CSS for that behavior. The way it's now, I don't see it solving any problem, and instead it only forces a property that in my opinion should be decided by a designer. So why the two types?

But as a full-time lurker, and long time user (only recently signed up), it kind of bums me out that I don't get to give credit where credit is due. I don't generally asks questions because I always find a related question before I get myself into the situation where I need to ask and I don't like to answer questions myself as I don't consider myself experienced enough to be contributing effectively. Hopefully the first response to this post is a quick solution to getting 15 reputation points that I haven't seen, and I can just quickly delete this useless question, or maybe a concise paragraph explaining why my question is redundant and that I should go back to my lurky shadows of which I came from. All I want to do, is give credit to helpful comments/questions.

• Why do I get unknown printer error 0xFA on my EPSON Workforce WF-3540 under Ubuntu 12.10?

  I recently bought an EPSON Workforce WF-3540, which I'm using under Ubuntu 12.10 with the official driver provided by EPSON. I am often printing batches of about a hundred pages, duplex. When I'm doing this, after about 20 pages, I regularly get an error message on the printer screen, telling me the printer encountered unknown error 0xFA, forcing me to turn the printer off and back on. I talked to EPSON about the problem, but they claim they're not supporting Linux and tell me to ask the Linux community about the problem (and possibly another driver?). So this is what I'm doing here... any ideas? Unfortunately, the documentation does not contain any information pertaining to error code 0xFA and the support hotline wasn't able to give me further information, either. BTW, the problem hasn't happened, so far, when I'm printing smaller batches or not using duplex. Whenever the problem happens, there's a page in the printer that's already been printed on one side, so I'm suspecting the problem's connected with the duplexer.

• Android: debug certificate expired error

  I started up Eclipse today, created a new project, and immediately had an error before I had changed a single line: Error generating final archive: Debug Certificate expired on 11/12/11 When installed, the Android SDK generates a "debug" signing certificate for you in a file called "debug.keystore". Eclipse uses this certificate rather than forcing you to create a new one for every project. In older versions of Eclipse, the certificate was only valid for 365 days, but as I understand it the default has been changed to 30 years in newer versions. If for whatever reason you don't want to upgrade Eclipse, you can manually delete the certificate to for Eclipse to generate a new one. You can find the location in Preferences -> Android -> Build -> Default debug keystore (mine was in C:\Users\myUserName\.android\); just delete the "debug.keystore" file, then go back into Eclipse and Clean the project to generate a new file.

I need an editor to quickly draw the needed objects and concentrate more on the logic on their interactions(mostly magnetism based). This(my project) is part of an already existing legacy code in C++ which is forcing the dependency. Also, is there any physics engine which provides support for magnetism?
